[q] apn (sgs2, i9100) - General Questions and Answers

Hello XDA-developers, I'm planning to root & load a custom OS into my phone but will my APN data get wiped?

your apn is normally loaded by default into your sim card, and rooting/flashing your phone will not erase that. however, in the unlikely case that you are unable to restore your apn, just google your carrier and apn. eg. at&t apn. or call them and ask for it.

[Q] Delete APN from T-mobile to use Solavei

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum, but trying to find an answer to my problem.
I have an HTC Sensation 4G from T-mobile running 4.0. Recently started Beta testing Solavei. I put the Apn settings that they gave me in the phone. I am getting 4G data, but I can't get mms. Ivemtried several suggestions of other users, but it seems none of them are using the sensation.
I saw a thread on this forum about a file that will reset the factory T-mobile APN, but I'm not exactly sure how I would go about putting the file in and if this would help. I am not really interested in rooting the phone or developing or anything like that.
There are 2 APN's solavei gave me. One for data and one for mms. There are 2 other t-mobile APN's in the phone (data and mms). I'm worried I might need to delete the tmobile mms, but since it's 4.0 I can't use back up and restor to do it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Try this go to Setting/Mobile network/Acces Point Names and then press the menu button. When the pop up menu appears select Reset to default. Then open the T-Mobile APNs and edit those APNs to the APNs for Solavei. Make sure press the menu button and select save before you back out of the APNs. Do this for both the data APNs and the MMS APNs.
Also if Reset to defaults does not remove all other APNs then do this. Select the APNs you want to remove and then press the menu button and select either Delete APN or Discard. One of these should remove the APNs. I think if you just edit the original T-Mobile APNs your device should work properly. But you may have to remove the T-Mobile APNs all together and just creat new APNs for Solavei.
Neither of those work, because the APN's are locked ( there is a little lock next to them). Reset to default just leaves them there and they are uneditable. I already tired both. But thanks for the advise. I'll keep looking for an answer.

Have you SIM unlocked your device? Also the APNs that the device is using should have a little green dot to the right of the data APN.
Edit: I reread your first post and I think you are talking about the PG58DIAG.zip file. This file will allow you to SIM unlock your device, you must be SIM unlocked to use another carrier with your device. You can find this file in this thread here. You just need to put the file on the root of your SD card and then boot your device into the bootloader and it will automatically scan for the file and ask if you want to install the update. Just follow the on screen instructions and then follow the on screen instructions when the diagnostic starts. Here is a hint when you are done running the diagnostic you will have to pull the battery and then put it back in. Also when running the diagnostic you want to choose yes for all the options it ask if you want to do.
I unlocked it using the htcdev. Is this different? The green dot is on the solavei data APN, but there is no green dot for MMS.

Yes SIM unlock is different from unlocking your bootloader which is what HTC Dev does. When you SIM unlock the device you unlock it so it can use any SIM card from any carrier, if you do not SIM unlock it you can not use the device on any other carrier but the carrier the device was made for. The thread you linked is just for unlocking the T-Mobile APNs to try and keep them from knowing you are using your device as a mobile hotspot for other devices. It has nothing to do with unlocking APNs for use with other carriers.
Ok, thanks. I will try the instructions that you sent me. Thanks so much!

Need help with APN
Hi,
I have HTC One S under Tmobile brand.
I have unlocked it and tried ATT sim card.
I am using the Net10 sim card under tmobile service.
The APN setting is by default are for tmobile and after creating the custom APN for Net10 it goes back to tmobile.
Again the phone is unlocked but I am not able to change the APN from tmobile to net10.
When I putting the ATT sim card it works good and there is no Tmobile apn at all but as soon as I am inserting Net10 sim card the tmobile APN shoes up again.
What can I do to remove the tmobile apn permanently.
Thanks in advance

Hey Port,
What it means when it says "Not registered on network" is that your device is not registered on Fido's network. One way to fix this is to go into your Network settings, and select "FIDO" as your network (which should automatically register your phone to the network).
If that still does not work, it is possible that your SIM card is not active and you will need to go in and get them to either:
a) Activate the SIM card or
b) Replace the SIM card and activate it on your FIDO account.
If then it is still not working, verify that the device is actually unlocked. Restart the phone with the FIDO SIM card in it, and if it asks you or a Network Unlock Code, then you will need to do one of the following:
a) Contact whoever you got the phone from and get them to request an unlock code from their provider.
b) Get an unlock code via one of the various methods available on the internet.
Option B will be your easiest option.
Good luck!

Sprint users. Do CDMA Tools work and can you force CDMA only?

Would anybody be so kind to post a screenshot of the CDMA Only options on the Nexus 5?
Curious if it's possible to turn off the GSM Radio just just run the CDMA Radio while the SIM is removed.
Also, For those using sprint what happens if you try to use CDMA tools such as CDMA Workshop?
Thanks
I would be interested in this as well.
I tried to set the phone to CDMA when removing the SIM. It automatically reverts to GSM right away either with or without the SIM. Network scans never reveal CDMA networks.
Perhaps it does something on first boot if it has a known Sprint UICC card? I have read on some forum that on a Sprint MVNO someone was able to register the N5 without the UICC card and get "3G" signal.
As far as I know nobody has found a way to get into diagnostic mode which means no cdma workshop etc.
Also with sim removed you can make calls but no data access.
cdma n5

Man, you're wrong.. there few manipulations to unlock cdma and flash number to phone, but it works only 1x... in my Country(Ukraine)... because we have not sprint(one of EvDo pararameter - unflashing.. sprint locked EVDO... we are investigating it... where it can be in rom)
so, to put into the diag mode, you need find MSL(SPC), unlock bootloader, boot with custom recovery (without flashing recovery if you want) and then install superSU...
next
boot with custom boot(it included diag ports)
next in adb switch usb settings from mtp to diag(you can find it in XDA)
after it your OS will install drivers for COM port and BINGO!!! you will see your nexus 5 on ports and can flash number over DFS or qpst or else, which you like more.
thanks

[Q] Unlocked HTC One S T-Mobile can't remove APN

I unlocked my wife's HTC One S T-Mobile for Straight Talk. I have added the Straight Talk APN, however I see that it has been added but the T-Mobile MMS & Data APN are showing a locked symbol and it will not let me delete it. She can only receive text & data by using WiFi at home because of that.
Can anyone help me?
Try factory reset, in Fastboot. Atention! This erase all in your phone!
Or if you make backup, restore in recovery.

About E-Sims & CustomRoms

i need help with e-sims because i never used one. i want to know if it is safe to use e-sim if i change custom roms more often.
my questions are :-
-- if my bootloader is locked and i add an e-sim, will it remain even after unlocking the bootloader?
-- will it remain if i factoryReset or hardReset my phone?
-- will the esim remain if i clean flash another rom?
i have no idea how esim are stored in phone so i need some little help because if i reset my phone and my esim is gone i have to request a physical copy and convert that to esim every time i switch rom.
Even I have this question and looking for the answer
I can tell you my experience with an Esim and Sprint. First off with a custom rom like LineageOS it doesn't work with Sprint. BUT every time I did a factory reset or flash another rom or flash back to the factory rom my phone activated right away. Again this is only with Sprint so I can't say for other carriers. Only time I had an issue was when I purposely deleted the Esim but was able to activate it again with My Sprint App.
