Well not everything is working in this ns4g port.. but with builds from international devices for the gsm port, network and stuff worked..

So yes, it is possible. You just have to find the right nexus dev that is willing to pick it up.

should not be in dev forum
answer however is that no rom out for epic is aosp, if cyanogenmod get ported to the epic, that however is aosp, the eaisest way to tell is by the options in system menu> about phone.
aosp does not have options to update prl etc (kinda a minor issue with cdma phones and aosp)
hope this helps

Thanks and it can be moved if necessary. I thought since it was about rom it would go here.
Thanks.
Its not also tht makes the diff. Its if the rom is duodexed. Mobile AP doesn't work on duodexed Roms you need the odexed aka stock rom for it to work

[Q] miui

I tried installing the miui v5 from the fascinate page and everything works except for the sms and a few other things, will someone port this one over? I think it is the smoothest looking rom. Or is it ported and im just not doing something right?

No it's not ported yet, and you shouldn't go flashing other ROM's if you don't know exactly what you're doing. The recent kernel's that have been posted are specifically made to be generic so they are okay to flash, not everything else in the forum.....
We are working on an MIUI port, and the sms issue.

[Q] WiFi Calling with any custom ROM?

I understand AOSP ROMs doesnt have wifi calling feature, which is carrier specific feature baked into the kernel itself.
But, since I live in a deadzone area for T-mobile, this is pretty important and I dont want to miss my Nexus 5 for this reason.
Is there any custom ROM (touchwiz) one which is compatible with Nexus 5? any ports for S4/S5, available for Nexus 5?
I would love to get that ROM as my one of the multiboot option, so that I can switch to that when I am at home to make/receive calls.

Well if it is baked into the kernel, a port wont help. When a ROM is ported to a new target device, it must use the target devices kernel
kernel can be "not-shared" right?!

well, I think with multi-boot kernel doesn't have to be shared right?!
currently i have stock with franco kernel and L-preview with default OS kernel.
Since kernel is software, i believe the port could come with its own kernel which supports the wifi calling feature? am I wrong?!

No idea, but either way, it would be a Nexus Kernel. A Samsung kernel wouldn't boot, even if it didnt brick your device

Kernels aren't ported. ROMs are ported and use device specific kernels. So yes, you are wrong

I am not saying porting the kernel. but in a way it could be implied that (as I am saying ROM coming with its own kernel which is compatible with the device)
I am wondering some kernels are built for both AOKP, AOSP and Touchwiz versions of Androids
see this for example. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297379
I guess its probably because S4 have both google play edition as well as touchwiz edition.
I wish Nexus 5 supports wifi calling as part of its kernel.
Some guys started this intitiative, but doesnt seem it will be reality

anywa, thank you for the reply and correcting me.
I think what you're failing to grasp is that they can use the same kernel because it's the same phone.. Kernels are an interface between the rom and the hardware. You cannot use a kernel from another device on our device as it will brick.. It's not a question of what rom you're using. It's a question of what hardware you're using.
The only way to get a kernel function from another device is to know the source code, but since its proprietary I'm guessing the code isn't available.

no, tmobiles WiFi calling is not possible on a nexus 5, unless tmo makes it compatible with it. its more than just a kernel feature(as we also don't have access to the source, so we can't grab it), it is also framework changes. you can use other WiFi calling apps and services though.
thanks!

got it. I didnt know kernels are device specific 100%. Always used to think its some software which is written to understand any camera, any cpu, any RAM etc. but now i got clarity.
what options are out there for people who are on deadzones, but still want the ability to make calls?
I think i can give my google voice number to all my friends and start receiving calls via hangout (not sure if that is possible yet) without any network.

Do you think that this could help with someone baking it into a custom kernel? My girlfriend just got this phone and thought that it had wifi calling on it. Hopefully this can help!!

Here is a Patch to make the Sprint 4.4.4 TW rom work on our phone. This is just for you to mess around with the sprint rom does not support the Verizon VOLTE calling but it does have Wifi calling I dont know if these feature will work but I do know the rom boots and has data and voice, mms works. The rom can be found here Now that I know what to do I should be able to make some patches for International S5 Roms when it finally gets 4.4.4 Tw release
Here is the patch which you need to apply directly after installing rom before you reboot to setup
the setup will hang for a few minutes trying to activate on sprint but it does finally skip this and go on through the setup

Updated patch if you flashed the original patch SM-G900P_4_4_4_Sprint_PATCH.zip then you need to reinstall the rom and apply the newest patch listed below this will fix the laggy call screen and contacts

@jrkruse question, I know you mentioned about getting stuff working eventually to start patching 4.4.4 international roms when they finally get the update. Out of curiosity though, would something like your idea work for the current 4.4.2 base they have? If so, I'd be willing to test for you if needed, since I have twrp and ktoonsez. Thanks

This patch is only for 4.4.4 sprint..which last time I looked there's only 1 rom of it and it's just a stock rooted. Jrkruse said when the international s5 gets 4.4.4 he'll work on a patch for that then. I too would like a 4.4.2 international patch as I'm sure it's possible but it's alot of work, so myself im ok with waiting.

If you guys can send me the framework2.jar and telephony-common.jar and build.prop from the 4.4.2 rom that your wanting to use I can see if I can make a patch the only problem I believe is that the newer the international 4.4.2 builds got the more kernel dependent they were. but I can put one together and you can try it. I am without high speed internet for a few more days so in order for me to download one of the International roms to pull those files would take my like 12 hrs only have crappy 3g service on the phone right now.

I could probably do that.. If I could decide what rom looks the best performance wise to try out. If I'm able to choose, Would those few files in a zip be ok?
Also, what about T-mobile roms? Does the same apply to them? , as far as patching to work toes.

Im sure this is the only way we will see it on our phones is with a patch unless Verizon needs to push it out for something that benifits them like the 4.4.4 update to give us VOLTE
Sprint's version has wifi calling? Wonder if we can rip it...
As for that Android L link, there's more of a leak than just a video, that's all I'm gonna say.

I am still having problems with call audio on my 920t version.. everything else is awesome is there a fix?
Have you tried the flashable fix that's roaming around? I forget the specific thread, but there is a flashable file we used to make the ported ROMs of other phones work on ours.
HOWEVER, this was for MM roms. Nougat, as far as I understand, will not work for us because we do not have the kernel.
There is another fix in the nemesis thread OP and I can confirm that call audio is working perfectly on my N920W8.
The tmobile note5 has a special audio chip compared to other variants, requiring a special driver. Probably won't see much until official sources for nougat drop. There are two rays of hope, both are devs working on lineage os based roms, but neither has released a build yet. One will never release here, and one might one day. I think most people on XDA anyway will be waiting for april and samsungs release.

I installed the Nemesis rom and noticed that the Gear S3 Frontier and Gear Manager does not have Samsung Pay on it, nor can I install it through store or galaxy apps or anything. Maybe its a nougat issue? I am going back to marmallow because of this.

If you use the Nemesis ROM, it works fine with the kernel he's using in there (maybe its the stock one i haven't checked), just make sure to select the TMO (Tmobile US) csc and all that in the aroma installer in twrp. Also make sure to do a full factory wipe and wipe dalvik cache data and system in advanced wipe before installing. Only thing I noticed that doesn't work is samsung pay in the gear manager if you use that, otherwise it seemed to be pretty snappy and stable.
I am using Nemesis as well, and while it's usable as a daily driver, I have found it to be a little flaky with some apps and the wifi seems to struggle, at work it is constantly reconnecting to the wifi. Of course at work we are using wep with mostly 802.11b so it's not exactly the most up to date wifi network. My Credit union doesn't support any pay options so I don't use any of that.
