should not be in dev forum
answer however is that no rom out for epic is aosp, if cyanogenmod get ported to the epic, that however is aosp, the eaisest way to tell is by the options in system menu> about phone.
aosp does not have options to update prl etc (kinda a minor issue with cdma phones and aosp)
hope this helps

Thanks and it can be moved if necessary. I thought since it was about rom it would go here.
Thanks.

Its not also tht makes the diff. Its if the rom is duodexed. Mobile AP doesn't work on duodexed Roms you need the odexed aka stock rom for it to work

cm7 APN fix for 2.2/3 roms?

pretty much what the title says, is there any way that they can possibly get the APN issue resorted with the 2.2/3 kernels... cause I would love to stay on the 2.2 roms but with out the weird issues cause of the APN. If not oh well, I'm just curious.

There are current cm7 2.2 roms? Where?
Sent from my Calculator with Android.
no I'm looking for a possible kernel that will fix the little data issues with the 2.2 rom, like the fix that CM7 team put together FOR CM7... Just a possible boot.img converted for 2.2 kernels.
Stock based ROMs don't have data issues.

then you haven't used one for a while. It takes about 20 seconds for me to sign into sites on my phone with a 2.2 rom where as on CM7 it would be instant. I appreciate your input but you are no help so, please no more replies, they aren't necessary.

[Q] Android 2.4 ROM?

Is it possible to build a ROM off of an OS that doesn't officially exist?
Meaning, would I be able to build an Android 2.4 ROM, based off various SDKs?
And if so, how would I do this?
Thanks to all!
But Android 2.4 does exist, here's the proof: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrAjgYDx7yU

1- Isn't that a developer version of 2.3? Unreleased?
2- I wanted to build it off of 2.3, 3.0, and 4.0, if that would even be possible, and then have it look unlike anything Android has released yet.
And 3- Thank you for that video. I didn't think it existed

2.x.whatever is just a software version. So if you are using the baseline code of 2.3, it is still a 2.3 gingerbread based ROM. And if it is a custom ROM, you can call it what ever you want. myrom 6.9..doesn't matter. The only way it is officially 2.4 is if you use the 2.4 source code as the baseline for your ROM. Implementing features from different software versions doesn't make it an official new version of android. When Cyanogen 7 came out based off of gingerbread, it had way more features than 2.3.3. But since it was based off of 2.3.3, the software version was still 2.3.3...Kind of a jumbled post, but hope it helped shed some light.
Just build it off of ics and put whatever features you want into it. I'm not really sure what you want to do. You could build it from froyo or something and make it look like something different.

But could you modify the settings .apk to make it say 2.4? If not, then can you mix and match apps from different version system dumps, or would you need to modify them?
I'm totally new to this, so I don't know how to do any of this
Thanks!

But just modifying the ROM to say a different version doesn't mean anything. You can make your gingerbread based ROM say software version 1.5...but that doesn't make it a cupcake ROM...
No offense but you seem like you shouldn't be making roms anyway. Its very difficult.

None taken, I just want to figure out how so I can make my own rom, due to the fact that all the roms available for the DInc are either really bad, or boring (except MIUI)
I agree, and I guess if your up to it there are some tutorials on the forums or Google it. It would be cool to see something new like that.

How are the roms for the droid incredible "boring"? Have you looked at what newtoroot, jermaine, mcd, incubus, ihftp, and joelz have been doing for the phone in terms of development? Look in the dev thread, tell me inc2 mctwist is "boring." And then tell me that "android 2.4 is cool"

I guess 'boring' was the wrong word. I've had the Incredible for a year, and I've gotten tired of Sense, I hate it now. I guess I should've specified farther- I hate Sense, and all the AOSP roms (other than MIUI) are boring.

Are there any roms for the SGS4G that have vanilla android??

RaverX3X posted an ODIN flashable 2.3.6 stock ROM in the Developer section. It's the same files that came from Samsung via Kies Mini. It is not modded at all.
I believe the OP is talking about Vanilla Android, no skins like Touchwiz etc...Airfluip's AOSP may be the closest visually, but to my knowledge there is currently no actual Vanilla Android.
Well the OP can always get a 3rd party launcher with an AOSP theme.

Vanilla Android, as I understand, is what is straight from Google and doesn't have customized interfaces or apps that the carriers put on the phone.

You can get raver's odin 2.3.6 and use fbi251's debloater to take out The T-mobile ****.

Ah, misinterpretation on my part. Was thinking stock, not vanilla per-se. Thanks for the clarification.
Vanilla Android = AOSP
with the way samsungs ROMs are built, we probably won't have a true AOSP rom, but Airfliup has done a pretty good job at making a ROM that looks and feels like AOSP. It's in the dev section, so check it out.
Thanks for all the responses guys. Yeah, im looking for a true vanilla rom and i tried using the stock gingerbread launcher but it seems a little laggy to me ontop of several roms that i have tried. You would think since the nexus s is so close to our family a vanilla rom would be easy to port over. Oh and do you guys happen to have a link to Airfluip's AOSP? I tried searching for it but came up with no luck. Thanks again guys

There really has to be something wrong with your search function...
Not to mention it is on the first page in the Galaxy S 4G Android Development section -
AOSP Style 2.1

Do you guys happen to know if there is anyway to port a rom from the nexus s as it is a similar device to our galaxy s?

[Q] Is there any point in trying to get AOSP 4.3.1 working on the Chacha??

It seems that KitKat requires an ARMV7 processor to work.
There is already a project of porting KitKat to ARMV6 processors.
I'm trying up to my knowledge to port AOSP to ChaCha by adapting 4.3.1_r1, but...
Is this wasted time or work??
Thanks for your opinions.

It would be nice to have ANY finished CM rom. Problem is with each new release the last gets forgotten before it's finished. I've got a de-sensed stock rom to share if anyones interested? Cant post a link till I get post count over 10!

As I said ANY vesrsion. The only fully working roms are the stock (not CM) Gingerbread ones and even that has a major issue with the dialler bug. I loved and had high hopes for CM9 when I first tried it but there has been no update in 18 months! These roms never get finished because the next android version comes along and interest moves to that before the previous is finished. I've tried them all and get too annoyed with the bugs so myself use stock based roms specifically Hexgores as a starting point for my own rom.

The rom I use is based on the stock HTC 2.3.5 Gingerbread rom, Hexgores rom is on the main Chacha rom listing page which is a slightly de-bloated version of stock and my rom is a further de-bloated, de-sensed and tweaked version of that. My rom is great on battery life and everything works as it should e.g wifi, bluetooth, both cameras and so on.

I didn't say it had no dialler bug but has other tweaks that help with power usage. Using Holo launcher but at least everything works as it should unlike any currently available non-stock based rom. If efforts get diverted from JellyBean to KitKat roms then we will never get a finished decent CM rom.

Well, CyanogenMod was a custom OS\ROM\Whatever you'd like to call it, but it wasn't something that most phones shipped with. And it turned out to be the most preferred Custom Android ROM, with custom ROMS being based on CM.
I would close my eyes and buy a device if I knew it had official support for CM (LineageOS). I bet most people would.
Apart from issues with their management and rebranding to LineageOS, I don't see what's bad or "worse" with it. Just saying that "Worse" is a strong way to put it.
I do agree that some custom ROMS, no matter how stable have a few bugs\drawbacks occasionally, but so does the stock ROMS.
It is custom ROMS that use a lot of MODS which are generally more prone to stability issues. By mods, I'm referring to certain features like Bravia Engine\ Dolby Atmos ported from another device.
I cant comment on the EPIC ROM as I haven't tried it. But from what other users are saying here, it seems to be a pretty decent and stable ROM, despite having a few extra MODS.
