RaverX3X's
Valhalla Black
FB Edition
PURPOSE
This is the version of RaverX3X's Valhalla Black Edition that I use and customized to my liking, which I'm sharing with you.
NOTES
This ROM is provided as is
I am not going to change the theme for you
I am not going to diagnose your random reboots
Don't come complaining when you flashed init.d tweaks that make your phone unstable
Don't come complaining when you use undervolt/overclock settings that make your phone unstable
I will only change things around in the rom if it's reasonable
No screenshots for you. This is exactly the same theme as Valhalla Black
I decided to use git to track my changes so you know exactly what got changed and when
I included a compress.sh script to create your own zip file in *nix or cygwin after you make changes. It even does and adb push for you for easy flash testing

Yeah market doctor is super handy. It's one of the awesome hidden features. I found out about it from restoring a backup and not having my apps update. I read online that one of my apps had updated and I went to the market to check and sure enough there was an update available but my phone didn't warn me. I looked into it and found out that TB can fix the market links for you so that your apps will be recognized again and voila, I had updates for 15 apps.
Now that you can do scheduling in the newest version of TB, you can also run the market doctor on schedule, once a week for example
hmmm

zsh would be awesome, pull request would be greatly appreciated. I wanna make this a really technical build so I'll keep throwing in CLI binaries compiled for Android. We have PLENTY of room on the /system partition, there's no reason why we shouldn't use it
I would like to say thanks to FB, awesome build, and really dig it. Although I am experiencing unstable wifi connectivity.

Can anyone enlighten us
This looks awesome and while I haven't installed it yet since my internet is slow to download, is there an option to put the clock back in the notification bar? I like it up there a lot when I'm browsing the internet or something. If it's not up there then I'd either need to go back to the home screen or lock my phone to see what time it is.
Are you coming from stock, infused, or refuse. If u r running infused or refuse use recovery option you get when u go to shut phone off. If u r running stock u need 3e modded recovery

you are legend. I'm still running Bionix rom on my Vibrant phone. Will put this rom on my bro's G2x for sure. Thanks.

Exactly which one of faux's kernels did you flash? Any kernel that works with an OTA rom like Weapon should work on this.
what is the advantage to this rom?
no offence intended but ive become a bit jaded after all the disappointing performance of all roms i hate gingerbread but for me it at least works
Excellent rom, super silky. What type themes do you have in mind for this rom?
Glad to see some team whiskey love again. I loved bionix but was pretty disappointed in the lack of updates. I will give this a shot when I get a chance.

all of faux's kernels seem to have a problem with every rom either power drain when off over night or boot loop crash

I highly recommend using the re-pack I posted in the Faux 1.3 thread rather than Faux's actual Rom. If you use the official Faux rom, you'll have long boot times every time due to it rebuilding Dalvik. The repack simply removes the dalvik rebuild instruction from the init script and enables init.d support as well (also in the init script), so the actual kernel is still Faux's.
I'll link it to this post as well. I only repacked the UV version btw. If someone wants it repacked for Stock Voltage, then someone else will need to learn how to repack a Kernel.
Also, you can NOT use my 2.3.4 kernels with this. The init scripts are slightly different.

I think many of us are ex-Vibrant users. This community's not as vibrant... erm (yes that's a bad pun), but there are some good people here.
Good to see you Mr. Apocolypse, we can always use more Roms.
Also, people SHOULD be able to use the copy of Bloater I've included in my Rom to access G2X Bloatware.

Hey guys this is my first public showing so please be easy on me. This Rom is based off the latest CM and has been highly optimized for speed and stability. I have not done any theming to this rom as Theme chooser combined with the ADW launcher offer a vast array of themes for you to choose from. I have spent countless hours trying to discern the best combinations of Oom settings, low mem values, cache pressure, heap size and many other tweaks and optimizations. I opted to include as many of these settings/values into the actual boot.img's ram disk in the init.rc & init.supersonic.rc, rather than through init.d. I feel there is benefit in having pre-existing parameters rather than relying on a script to hack in the tweaks.
This ROM is for all the people who love aosp but may not have the ability or know how to mod and tweak themselves. I designed this to have the best "out of the box performance" available for our device, while retaining functionality and reliability. Satisfaction Guaranteed or your money back.

Additional screens/settings
Please feel free to let me know what you think, any problems you may encounter, or requests that you may have.
For optimum user experience and an incredibly snappy interface please do the following with your rom set up.
Set SD read ahead as mentioned in OP.
In "Spare Parts" turn both "Window & Transition animations" to fast, or even better, off completely.
In ADW settings/Screen Preferences/Desktop scrolling speed/ set to 0 (zero).
Performing these steps will drastically speed up the ui with this adw launcher.
Additional screens
My personal gaming settings by request-
1) Kill any other background app before gaming.
2) Clear cache (I use system tuner for both the above)
3) Ensure SD read ahead is set to 4096 (This should be done regardless, sorry will fix next release)
4) In settings/cyanogen settings/performance/cpu settings/set min cpu to 1036 max to 1152 governor to performance DO NOT check set at boot
5) play game
Now for quads things are a bit different. Let me start off by saying that in real world day to day use, quads mean absolutely nothing and are in no way a representation of a quality user experience for a given rom. I use quadrant standard to test different tweaks I have made. I do this in a very controlled way. Make all runs on a fresh install having only signed in to google account and cancel sync manually through settings/accounts & sync. All the parameters for gaming settings above are used, in addition go to settings/cyanogen settings/ uncheck "surface dithering" (this helps 2D frame rates), check "Use 16 bit transparency" (this will help 3D performance.. minutely), reboot. Allow device to rest for 30 minutes, reboot phone, allow 30 more minutes at rest with screen off. Run quadrant standard, five runs back to back recording score for each, then average those numbers. Close app, 30 minute rest, repeat, this is done five times, I then average all my "averaged" scores. Currently on the rom available for download in op my running average with these steps is 1640.
I have found that with out fail my phone, hw 0004, will ALWAYS have the best score on my fourth run. Unless I make more than 5 runs then number 7 is king. The screenshot in the op is from a seventh run.
Nice! Sounds like a great rom. Welcome to Dev land!

So I am assuming this has the CoD tweaks built in when you are mentioning built in tweaks? What about Papa Smurfs tweaks? Wanna give this a run but want to confirm what tweaks are already included so I am not redoing them lol. Looks good though. Also, are gapps baked in?

Actually, no COD is not baked in, nor are any init.d scripts other than dta2sd. Feel free mod and tweak at will. I also did not include any of Papa's build.prop tweaks. I'm pretty sure that his script checks for repetitions and corrects, so you would be safe there as well. You ought to run it stock for a bit before you determine what tweeks to incorporate. It may pleasantly surprise you.

Odex VS Deodexed
A .dex file is basically a compiled bytecode version of an app that has been built for the Dalvik VM which Android's apps run on. I believe it is short for Dalvik Executable.
An .odex file is an Optimized .dex file (hence the 'o'), meaning that it has basically been pre-compiled for a specific platform. The advantage to this is that startup time is much faster since the VM doesn't have to perform any optimizing at startup/runtime. The disadvantages are 1) That it takes up some extra space and 2) An odexed app won't run properly if it's put onto another device, and it must have the associated .odex file to run at all.
An "odexed" ROM is one where the apps have been precompiled, and thus contain associated .odex files which are external to the .apk files. A "deodexed" ROM is one where data that would be optimized in the .odex files has been more or less merged back into the .apk files (meaning it is not optimized but basically platform agnostic), thus the .apk files are self-contained and there are no .odex files. This is usually just done with a deodexing utility, such as smali/baksmali.

Im on Smelkus recovery and EXT 4,also mate, thats funny because i only flashed the odex'ed version to check out the rom and didnt have any problems, ill check it again real quick,if someone downloads the deodex'ed version, can you post your results please, thanks.
Edit I'm gonna run a check on both the deodex'ed and odex'ed versions mate,so i will report here in about 15.
Ok,im on the latest Smelkus recovery,i go to wipe and wipe all 3 top lines 3 times, then i install the rom, both versions installed just fine for me,also why im looking at it,the updater script doesnt say its the deodex'ed version, like the odex'ed one does, haha.I'll change it in the update mates.
i just tried the odex version i got error 7 also hw003 formated all plus sd ext. still no go

I wish i knew what the problem was, status 7 error means that your recovery is out dated or the rom isnt meant for your tele.I'm on RA Revamped Build:RA-Supersonic-v4.1-SmelkusMOD,with ext 4 and i dont get an error with either versions,so its hard for me to pinpoint this for you mate.
EDIT I'll repack the roms,i might have messed something up when i signed them.
Anyone else having problems installing these roms?
I will try this Rom it looks cool

Nexus Device that has a system app you do not want

THE SKINNY
WHAT IS NIGHTLY UPDATER
Nightly Updater is an AROMA installer for those that
yearn to have the cleanest device. Since I first
owned an HTC Droid Eris, I have been wiping bloatware
off of my device. Flash foward to my latest devices -
LG Nexus 4 and the 2013 Asus Nexus 7 and there ain't
much bloatware... But, all AOSP ROMs tend to come with
at least one or two apps that I can do without (and
sometimes a lot more). Nightly Updater is a simple
tool that allows users to remove unwanted system
applications in an easy manner. NU also allows users
to customize which apps are removed.
HOW DOES IT WORK
Nightly Updater works by relying on scripts that
read txt files. When customizing your script, the
installer looks for junk.txt in the "NU" folder of
your virtual (i.e. internal) SD card. Each line that
has not been "commented out" (i.e. does not have a
"#" at the front of it) or any terms (i.e. app
descriptions) that follow a "#" are removed from the
script. This leaves Nightly Updater with a clean text
file that only has the applications you want to remove.
Review:
Custom Script is called: junk.txt
Custom Script goes here: /sdcard/NU/junk.txt
#Chrome.apk -- NOT DELETED FROM DEVICE
Chrome.apk -- DELETED FROM DEVICE
Chrome.apk #Google Browser -- AFTER "#" IGNORED
HOW DO I ADD MY OWN APPS
You can add your own apps in three ways: [1] name (without
apk), [2] name (with apk), or [3] file path.
[1] Name (without ".apk")... Just type:
Code:
Chrome
The installer will automatically know it is looking for an apk and
delete Chrome.apk.
[2] Name (with ".apk")... Just type:
Code:
Chrome.apk
I think you know what it does.
[3] Full File Path... Now, you can get a little funkier and do the entire
file path like:
Code:
/data/app/Chrome.apk
This comes in
handy for files like pre-loaded wallpapers and
ringtones you may want to remove. Be cognizant of
where the files you are removing are located! This
will become very important when telling Nightly
Updater where to scan.
By the way, Nightly Updater also recognizes wildcards.
This is great for those user apps that end up having
unpredictable file names. For example:
Code:
/data/app/com.google.android.youtub*.apk
com.google.android.youtube*
These are both ways of erasing YouTube regardless of
the "-X" at the end of the file name.
WHAT'S UP WITH SCANNING
When using a Custom Script, Nightly Updater asks
where you would like to scan for apps. By default,
Nightly Updater recommends you only scan in the
System/App folder - which is where (shocker) system
apps are located. Remember, most junk apps are located
in System/App. However, Nightly Updater has also given
the option to scan Data/App. Some developers will put
apps in the Data/App folder, so it may be useful to
remove apps from there. But NORMALLY, these are only
the apps you chose to install. The final option is
to scan EVERYWHERE. Be very cautious with this command!
Remember that it is matching what you write in
junk.txt with the scan parameter. If you accidentally
wrote "system" as an app you wanted to remove instead
of SystemTuner.apk (with full scan on)... you would
erase your system folder... that's REALLY BAD!!!
Now, if you only check this option when you are using
full path and double check your junk.txt file so that
you did not make any mistakes... YOU ARE GOOD!!!
When in doubt, post your junk.txt here and I will
check it over for you
WHAT'S THE DEFAULT SCRIPT
If you download junk.txt from the OP at XDA, then
you have seen the Default Script. The Default
Script is meant to remove apps that MOST people
would consider expendable. If you are nervous to
tinker with your own Custom Script, try running
the Default Script first. If the script deleted
an app you need or did not delete at app you want
to destroy - hit me up and I will walk you
through the steps.

Whenever I get the chance to test it I will definitely report with results.
Cool. I used it with the provided junk.txt and keep.txt. I put them in a /sdcard/NU folder. I exported a log file after the flashing. It didnt have anything in it, but it looks like it did the job. Thanks!
The log files are still kind of in beta. They are mostly thugs I wanted to check while devving. I hope to make them more useful in the future But glad to hear!

Seems to be working very good. But using the default junk.txt I lost the stock e-mail client which I need for my work. Hope I got a backup. And otherwise it's time to make a new backup and reflash stock.
I know it's my own fault so no hard feelings and I'll experiment some more

If you ever delete an app you need with Nightly Updater. Just reflash your ROM. Then fix junk.txt to NOT delete that app. In your case, add a "#" in front of "Email" aka the AOSP Email app. Then rerun Nightly Updater. Good to go
