very nice, shoulda kept it!!!! I wouldn't get the r20, I would get a 08.5-09 mkv. better motor, better fueling, timing chain, no exploding cam follower

I was wondering the same thing, but I decided to get the skyrocket and I love it! It was cheap and it allows me to play with all the new ICS roms that are out there. If I brick it, I wouldn't be out too much money. I am currently running SkyICS as my daily and it is fantastic.
OFF TOPIC: I love my APR Stage IV 01 Jetta, it's hard to compare to the R20. It's more modern, but not that raw power that you had in the GTi.

Ya i know i should have kept it, but it had over 100k on the clock and i was just getting married and moving into my first place at the time. Couldn't afford the upkeep if something broke it was my daily as well. Once my student loans are paid off maybe buy a used 08 R32 and throw a nice big turbo on that....love that exhaust note

[ROM-DEV-for-da-heck-of-it] Froyo SDK system image on Toast kernel

First, this is a "can it be done" thing, so don't expect things to work. The only thing that works is:
3G data - like, you can use the browser app and surf the web
Nothing else works! No audio, so no phone calls or playing audio files, no camera, etc.
This is a play ROM!!! Don't expect fixes for a while, or until official source is released on android.git.kernel.org.
Also, its a little laggy/slow due to using software only OpenGL.
Again, play ROM only!
http://depositfiles.com/files/b1oox6pyt
EDIT: 2010-05-21 05:43 UTC
darch has an updated ROM that runs faster, so play with that one:
http://darchroms.pocketdevelopers.com/darchroms/froyo-22.zip
Doubtful we'll get the mic working in this build, since the built config used forces a audio hardware "stub", and replacing the relevant libs did not do the trick. It was a good try, and the new launcher is neat, and the browser works well, but thats about it until Froyo source is released.
Oh Shats!!! The race has started!!!
lol didnt take long

Shrug..I'll be picking up an EVO on the 4th, so I guess I'll just wait for it to be ported to that. Still, having 2.2 running on my Hero would surely make it easier to sell.

Sense is unfortunately not open source and is hardcoded to the Hero's processor. Zenulator is keeping his eye out for similar phones that might get a 2.2 update.

That was mine too until I got the bump to SP (Sprint Premium).
Now I get 12 month upgrades as opposed to 22 months. That's why I'm stuck with the Hero until March, at least. By then, though, we'll probably know about some awesome stuff coming out in May or June that I'll just have to wait for.
This is why I still want a Froyo port for us on the Hero even though I've pretty much given up hope to it happening. Even as it stands, though, I can't see the Hero falling too far behind in the meantime, especially with all the great stuff ZEN and the other devs are still working out for us. I mean, considering all the crappy Android phones on the market right now I'd say we're in pretty good shape for having such "old" technology. My brother is stuck with a Behold II until March 2012. I say I win

To explain the negative feedback you've gotten thus far, porting to the Thunderbolt is far more complicated than to the Droid 1. The part of the OS that interacts with the radio is (as of yet) unique to the Thunderbolt and essentially has to be reverse-engineered. Slayher and toastcfh are working on a port of CM7 but it is an extremely difficult project for this reason. It's a whole different ballgame on this phone. Nothing to do with the amount of love for it. If there were no love for it, Slayher would not be working so hard to develop a port of CM7.
Who are you referring to? Verizon or the modding community? Verizon continues to hype their 4G network and the Thunderbolt with it. I'm sure HTC has Android 2.3.4 so we'll see what they do with it. The modding community has been pretty good about building off the most recent AOSP builds, but with the Thunderbolt having the 4G radio it has taken a little longer. Give it time. The OG Droid has been around much longer and more people own it than the Thunderbolt. As people upgrade you'll see more and more development for this phone. Personally I'm very happy with how quickly the Thunderbolt was rooted and how quickly devs started tweaking things.

Considering the fact that this phone has barely been out for a month and a half i think the dev is going pretty good. I think that's why people are giving you crap for this post.
There's a few threads on getting 2.3 working on the thunderbolt so its a wip at this point. Htc is supposed to release 2.3 "soon" anyways.

Hey, don't knock the OG Droid. That was a great little phone. It was my first Android phone.
The only reason I made my comment is because all the OP needed to do was click on TB development to see all the ROMs and support for this device. For only being out a month, there's a crazy amount of support.
OG Droid still rocks, I have one in front of me.
But dude obviously doesn't remember the wait for 2.1 on the OG.
put a nice silicone cover on it (sexual references meant) then show it love!
Only then can it be shown proper love .... lol
Sorry had this coming <<<<<
Anyway The Devs Are Doing The Thunderbolt Much Justice and are working and slaving for this device so there showing the love

Maybe the "powers that be" have had enough of the public taking matters onto their own hands, and have poisoned the proverbial milk? I'm not sayin anything, I'm just sayin.

I think that would be the smartest move by HTC, they release it to xda with a few tweaks (sense 3.0) and the community builds it up. They would have multiple different fully functional versions of the software to choose from and it would lower development cost for them. Us as the community would also get to determine the direction of the software...wait a minute, this sounds familiar...

That makes a lot more sense than the "spilled milk" theory in the OP.
I think HTC is quite happy with the dev community. It helps drive sales of their phones. Remember, they're competing with the likes of Samsung, Moto and LG ... not exactly lightweights. Anything they can do to drive interest in their devices they'll do. My opinion is this 911 sniper guy who seems to post all the leaks is probably someone on the inside and HTC has little to gain by plugging the leaks. Folks here are far more likely to buy HTC devices since there's so much development around them.
There is a self-help clinic down the road to the left.. I suggest you check in.

The Nexus One was destined for high end development anyways...But even the freaking HD2 now has ICS. Now thats ridiculous
But yah, ICS really has nothing to be depressed over. Except for the hardware acceleration capability...now CM9 is a whole other thing. But i'm sure CM9 will be available way before LG drops the major update.
I spent a few hours installing ICS on my daughter's Samsung Vibrant. It was nice to play with but not totally earth shattering. Some UI changes (improvements?), some different features. I was very excited about ICS now after spending some time with it, I can be patient and for the developers to work it out.

To me is not really about ics, its about how they treat us (g2x users) if it wasn't for cm7/cerqueira this phone would be nothing, im glad i got a good one but many people got ****ty phones and the only reason they did gb was because of the lawsuit. It ran fine without any bug and everything working. It sucks because there is no CM Settings menu.....thats where most of the feature that I use daily are located. losing all those features to gain better new looks is pointless.
I like this phone but, because of the lack of support for it, not LG, NVIDIA and Google. Although it's blasphemy stating this on an Android focused website forum, because of the total messup with this phone, except for the devotion of independent developers and others who support/supported this phone, I will not be buying anything with NVIDIA in it, made by LG, and probably not Android. I am going to seriously consider phones which run the new Windows OS and the iPhone 5 when it comes out.
