I've been running it as well and confirm that it works

Remove the battery.
Plug in your USB cable to your PC.
Hold Volume Up and Volume Down at the same time keeping them held down.
Plug in the USB cable to your phone. (Keep the buttons held until Windows detects a new APX device.)
Open Device Manager in Windows and you should see "APX Device" listed with an error icon.
Right click on the APX device.
Select 'Update driver software'.
Select 'Browse my computer...'.
Select 'Let me pick...'.
Select 'Have disk'.
Choose .img file
This is how i would upgrade it. Correct?

Follow this guide exactly. Remove the recovery that's currently in that nvflash folder and rename the touch recovery to the exact same name of the 5.0.2.0 recovery that you removed. Then place the renamed touch recovery back into the nvflash folder. Tada!

No, for some reason it keeps bringing up the wrong link. It's the "Guide for nvflash CWM 5.0.2.7 for dummies" in the development section.

problem with touch recovery?
ok so i successfullly flashed the recovery and it worked wonderfully
that is, until i tried flashing a kernel
i flashed owain's rom and it worked fine..booted up and i set everything up...working great
then i went back to recovery, wiped cache and installed morfic's xlp (ics)
rebooted the phone and it hung up on the blue lg logo
went back to recovery, scrubbed and reflashed owains..worked fine
flashed t15...again hung up on the blue logo
one more time, flashed owain's and then flashed harsh's oc kernel...hung up on blue logo
so i went baack to cwm 5.0.2.7...flashed owain's and xlp
booted up perfectly fine
the longest i waited at the blue screen was around 5 minutes
has anyone else tried flashing a kernel with the touch recovery? im just trying to pinpoint where the issue might have happened

I flashed Faux ICS kernel just fine witn 5.8.1.3 recovery

I've flashed faux and harsh with this recovery and didn't have a single problem. You should just manually wipe. Those things like nullifier and scrubber just cause problems. No need for them at all. Good luck!

I so want more people to realize this. Those are great for when you have a problem that normal wiping cant fix, but if your using them constantly its just reducing the life of your NAND chips.
If its not broke, dont fix it! if everything is running good, theres no need to nullify, use the batch tool, or anything else.
hell, i dont even do any more then a cache wipe (and haven't since CM7 Nightly 100!) << i would not recommend this for most people.
if you have problems then wipe wipe wipe, but if not, dont bother

[GUIDE] ClockWorkMod Recovery on Vibrant 4G

Ensure you have root first!!!
MOD EDIT: POSTERS ARE REPORTING THERE ARE HAVING A LOT OF ISSUES WITH THIS GUIDE, THREAD CLOSED.
Use SuperOneClick 1.7 to gain root (USB debugging enabled) Get it here:
1. Download "3e_recovery_installer.zip" from here:
2. Open SuperOneClick and run Shell Root with your phone plugged in. Once finished, close.
3. Now run the 3e Recovery Installer. When finished, close.
4. Now flash ClockWorkMod Recovery via ROM Manager by selecting "Vibrant" when asked for phone type. Then reboot into recovery. (You may need to reboot your phone if you get stuck on the ROM Manager "Reboot to Recovery" screen) (Just reboot, then attempt to reboot into recovery again)
5. At the blue recovery select "reinstall packages". The first time will fail, run it once more, and you should now have the green CWM Recovery menu.
6. Wait for Team Whiskey to release an amazing ROM!!!

"E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2

so this is a confirmed method to get rom manager / clockwork working for the SGS4G?
i must be doing something wrong because i keep getting failed.. but i am following the instructions to the T..
Just letting you know, this will NOT work. The 4G has a different partition structure than the Vibrant. CWM will need to be built for the 4G due to it not having a internal sd like the Vibrant. Once CWM does come out for the SGS4G please let me know. I already have Bionix Frost ready to go for it, and will have Black Ice ready this week.

CM7 rc1

Quick question guys... I was reading that cm7 RC 1 can be installed by only rooting your phone and then using rom manager. Is this true or are there other steps required? I know there used to be other things that needed to be done but maybe with the new RC is got easier?

Well, even though you could do it with only ROM manager and root it is highly recommended that you flash CWM recovery just in case anything goes bad you can always bring the recovery and reflash or restore.
Sent From My Stock G2x
^^^^^ agreed. The plain-jane method of rooting/RomManager/CWM works but if something happens where you can't get into RomManager (aka bootloop) then your SOL.
Do yourself a favor and spend 3 seconds and NVFlash. You only have to do it once and you will be forever able to save your skin if something goes bad.
Thanks guys.
So I root first (already done), NVFlash (done some reading but still not 100% sure what exactly this does or how to do it) and then set up cement recovery?

me neither, lol and to the other guy nvflash u want because say your phone goes into a bootloop what u gonna do? u cant do nothing but pull battery out then when u turn your phone on it just keeps bootlooping not letting u into the phone ever, well thats what would happen if u got a bad download or flashed the wrong thing by accident , dude accidents do happen, rom manager is what they call a fake flash, ..........now nvflash really puts recovery on your phone it over writes your stock recovery, and if your going into a bootloop u can pull battery put back in then hold vol down and power and bingo your in recovery, it looks the same as rom managers recovery, but with this one u can actually get into it and if your bootlooping u would just restore a nandroid or reflash another rom and your good, ....kinda a failsafe i live by it and dont use rom manager , and if u want to see your backups and rename them use astro zip in market its free too

How to setup and use NVflash.
Thanks for the heads up. I was just about to dive in with Rom Manager alone. REALLY don't need new problems.
According to Cyanogenmod's wiki you can flash recovery from ROM Manager, it says nothing about this NVFlash. I did this and rebooted into Clockwork and flashed CM7 RC1, and now I can't get back into Clockwork, just the default one, and ROM Manager can't execute anything, I can't connect to wifi and, I get various Force Close messages at start up. So is the wiki lying to me?
Do NOT question nvflash! You need this... nvflash makes the clockwork recovery permanent.. If you only flash through rom manager it only makes the recovery temporary and the next time you reboot you will lose recovery

It's almost like people don't read the threads about rooting. Every one that I read said, in no uncertain terms, you NEED to use NVflash if you want permanent root....
Sent from my butt using XDA Premium App
The thing is there is incomplete information all over the place and it changes constantly, and it's difficult to keep up on what is needed or not. Cyanogen's wiki doesn't say it's needed, and I figured that meant the problems with ROM Manager and Clockwork had been resolved in the most recent versions.

That's why I advocate, when in doubt, research some more. I didn't get the feeling that info was incomplete, everything I read said nvflash for permanent root and you can bet that the threads where people were asking for help because they were in a bootloop the first question asked was did you use nvflash... maybe cyanogen just figured that everyone already got recovery with nvflash, because you should have, and THEN it is safe to use RM...

Have you tried flashing 2.3.3 via nvflash? If not, I'd say give that a try then try to flash CWM again, make sure you follow the instructions carefully. I, as well as many other G2x users I'm sure, have had issues just because we missed a step or two in the flashing process.
Yeah that's the one I was referring I seem to do everything just on that blue command it says bootloader fails..and nothing comes up on my phone ;(
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
I'm sorry if I'm being a little thickheaded here but you said you tried to flash CWM via nvflash and it failed, are you also saying you tried to flash the 2.3.3 rom via nvflash from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248644 and it failed as well?
Edit: could you post a picture of the screen on your computer after you run nvflash, or just more info on what error it's giving you exactly?
0No I never try to flash any rom,I just wanted to flash cwm..well I'm picking cwm 5 on one click then the command comes in and it says bootloader failed press Any key to continue and then it leaves.
I know how to use cwm I hacked the galaxy and the Mytouch but this is giving me problems!! Need help
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
So follow the instructions on the thread from the link i posted above. If it doesn't work then you probably didn't install the APX drivers properly, so uninstall everything phone related off your computer and start from scratch, that should do it.
If it does work try to flash CWM after, hopefully it'll work.
You could also try to flash CWM 4.0.1.5 from nvflash if you haven't already, maybe the CWM 5 file is corrupt
True ill give that a try, thanks man
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
no problem, i hope it works, good luck
WORKED YAY turns out all I had to do was go for the the cwm lower version..the command color is blue in the other one..thanks once again..Now I want yo install cyanogen I read you need to match baseband and ril first time I ever heard about that..How can I go about this..also read there's an app that helps
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
Go to the market and search for "getril "... install it. Then open the app... allow the super user request if prompted. .. then the app will check your baseband and your Ril. Just below that it will have a button you can press to update your ril to match your baseband... press it... there ya go ... all done .... let us know how it worked for ya.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
It did thanks mate, running cyanogen,so for every rom use get ril I guess?
Any suggestion on good Roms,Hows the state of ics buggy, camera??
Because I know for the Mytouch 4g the camera and such were still a bit behind.because no official cm9 yet
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
You'll still have service whether you use getril or not, but it's always safer to do it.
Last time I tried ICS it was fairly smooth, not as much as I'd like though. Camera works but not for video recording. There's a few other bugs as well.
I've tried pretty much every rom and kernel in the dev section.
My favorite kernel is Morfic's, I usually go for the elp version for better battery life.
As for roms EaglesBlood, HellFire Phoenix, stock MIUI w/ trinity kernel, Bionix Reloaded, and Weapon G2x all worked very well for me.
My favorites though are EaglesBlood and HellFire Phoenix of course
Yes I plan to use all those Roms
I'm all set to go!

Yes you can install TWRP any way you like. One recovery will simply overwrite the other. Nothing to worry about.
My only brick
The one time i ever truly bricked a phone after close to 30 times rooting and unlocking boot loaders was with TWRP and this phone. I am talkin complete brick, like qualcom drivers request show up on windows brick, the kind brick that you just throw at a window, because you got no charging light, no vibration, no light what so ever.
Btw i was only flashing a rom
I never touched TWRP after .
Thanks for the input guys..... Gonna stick with CWM for now. Seen a fair amount of negative stuff towards TWRP in the forums and don't want to risk anything.

Used the gooapp to flash twrp and haven't had any problems. In fact I switched over from cwm because while installing liquidsmooth cwm kept giving me error 7. Everything I googled told me it was a problem with my recovery, so switched to twrp and presto
Although watch which version of twrp because I was reading the Cleanrom lite thread and ppl were having issues with the latest twrp at the time of their postings. It was around end of September that they were saying this, I believe.

Twrp I like better cause I can move my backup folder and copy it even to another computer. Cwm has the blob folder which you can't see which files belong to which backup so you can't just move one backup you have do do them all

try this. know where it says LEAVE THE BATTERY OUT? f**k that. take the battery out, BUT when it recognizes the phone put it back in then run the flash.bat I sent you

Funny thing is that I've tried that but every time I run it, it opens and closes right away.
after it was recognized? did you try to start the .bat then put the battery in as well?

If it opens and closes right away then the phone is NOT connected in APX mode.
Does it show up in the USB list as APX device?
I would have a $500 brick if it weren't for nvflash. Thanks Nvidia!
