Have you tried flashing 2.3.3 via nvflash? If not, I'd say give that a try then try to flash CWM again, make sure you follow the instructions carefully. I, as well as many other G2x users I'm sure, have had issues just because we missed a step or two in the flashing process.

Yeah that's the one I was referring I seem to do everything just on that blue command it says bootloader fails..and nothing comes up on my phone ;(

I'm sorry if I'm being a little thickheaded here but you said you tried to flash CWM via nvflash and it failed, are you also saying you tried to flash the 2.3.3 rom via nvflash from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248644 and it failed as well?
Edit: could you post a picture of the screen on your computer after you run nvflash, or just more info on what error it's giving you exactly?

0No I never try to flash any rom,I just wanted to flash cwm..well I'm picking cwm 5 on one click then the command comes in and it says bootloader failed press Any key to continue and then it leaves.
I know how to use cwm I hacked the galaxy and the Mytouch but this is giving me problems!! Need help
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA

So follow the instructions on the thread from the link i posted above. If it doesn't work then you probably didn't install the APX drivers properly, so uninstall everything phone related off your computer and start from scratch, that should do it.
If it does work try to flash CWM after, hopefully it'll work.
You could also try to flash CWM 4.0.1.5 from nvflash if you haven't already, maybe the CWM 5 file is corrupt

True ill give that a try, thanks man
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA

no problem, i hope it works, good luck

WORKED YAY turns out all I had to do was go for the the cwm lower version..the command color is blue in the other one..thanks once again..Now I want yo install cyanogen I read you need to match baseband and ril first time I ever heard about that..How can I go about this..also read there's an app that helps
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA

Go to the market and search for "getril "... install it. Then open the app... allow the super user request if prompted. .. then the app will check your baseband and your Ril. Just below that it will have a button you can press to update your ril to match your baseband... press it... there ya go ... all done .... let us know how it worked for ya.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk

It did thanks mate, running cyanogen,so for every rom use get ril I guess?
Any suggestion on good Roms,Hows the state of ics buggy, camera??
Because I know for the Mytouch 4g the camera and such were still a bit behind.because no official cm9 yet
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA

You'll still have service whether you use getril or not, but it's always safer to do it.
Last time I tried ICS it was fairly smooth, not as much as I'd like though. Camera works but not for video recording. There's a few other bugs as well.
I've tried pretty much every rom and kernel in the dev section.
My favorite kernel is Morfic's, I usually go for the elp version for better battery life.
As for roms EaglesBlood, HellFire Phoenix, stock MIUI w/ trinity kernel, Bionix Reloaded, and Weapon G2x all worked very well for me.
My favorites though are EaglesBlood and HellFire Phoenix of course

Yes I plan to use all those Roms
I'm all set to go!

CM7 rc1

Quick question guys... I was reading that cm7 RC 1 can be installed by only rooting your phone and then using rom manager. Is this true or are there other steps required? I know there used to be other things that needed to be done but maybe with the new RC is got easier?
Thanks for the help

Well, even though you could do it with only ROM manager and root it is highly recommended that you flash CWM recovery just in case anything goes bad you can always bring the recovery and reflash or restore.
Sent From My Stock G2x
^^^^^ agreed. The plain-jane method of rooting/RomManager/CWM works but if something happens where you can't get into RomManager (aka bootloop) then your SOL.
Do yourself a favor and spend 3 seconds and NVFlash. You only have to do it once and you will be forever able to save your skin if something goes bad.
Thanks guys.
So I root first (already done), NVFlash (done some reading but still not 100% sure what exactly this does or how to do it) and then set up cement recovery?

me neither, lol and to the other guy nvflash u want because say your phone goes into a bootloop what u gonna do? u cant do nothing but pull battery out then when u turn your phone on it just keeps bootlooping not letting u into the phone ever, well thats what would happen if u got a bad download or flashed the wrong thing by accident , dude accidents do happen, rom manager is what they call a fake flash, ..........now nvflash really puts recovery on your phone it over writes your stock recovery, and if your going into a bootloop u can pull battery put back in then hold vol down and power and bingo your in recovery, it looks the same as rom managers recovery, but with this one u can actually get into it and if your bootlooping u would just restore a nandroid or reflash another rom and your good, ....kinda a failsafe i live by it and dont use rom manager , and if u want to see your backups and rename them use astro zip in market its free too

How to setup and use NVflash.
Thanks for the heads up. I was just about to dive in with Rom Manager alone. REALLY don't need new problems.
According to Cyanogenmod's wiki you can flash recovery from ROM Manager, it says nothing about this NVFlash. I did this and rebooted into Clockwork and flashed CM7 RC1, and now I can't get back into Clockwork, just the default one, and ROM Manager can't execute anything, I can't connect to wifi and, I get various Force Close messages at start up. So is the wiki lying to me?
Do NOT question nvflash! You need this... nvflash makes the clockwork recovery permanent.. If you only flash through rom manager it only makes the recovery temporary and the next time you reboot you will lose recovery

It's almost like people don't read the threads about rooting. Every one that I read said, in no uncertain terms, you NEED to use NVflash if you want permanent root....
Sent from my butt using XDA Premium App
The thing is there is incomplete information all over the place and it changes constantly, and it's difficult to keep up on what is needed or not. Cyanogen's wiki doesn't say it's needed, and I figured that meant the problems with ROM Manager and Clockwork had been resolved in the most recent versions.

That's why I advocate, when in doubt, research some more. I didn't get the feeling that info was incomplete, everything I read said nvflash for permanent root and you can bet that the threads where people were asking for help because they were in a bootloop the first question asked was did you use nvflash... maybe cyanogen just figured that everyone already got recovery with nvflash, because you should have, and THEN it is safe to use RM...

[Q] Getting Infuse into CWM

First off, i'm sorry if there are posts on this. I searched this site and Google to find my answer. I tried flashing the Infused rom first, the flash didn't work, I was stuck in boot loop. I eventually used Odin to get back to stock. I decided to go with the SuperCM7 instead to try my luck with that. I am rooted and have installed CWM through rom manager(galaxysi9000 as im sure you all know. I'm trying to follow the steps on infinitybiff's post(directions for flashing....) Anyways when i try to go into CWM recovery, i'm taken to the standard android <3e> recovery screen. Should I try downloading CWM to my sdcard and trying that? Any suggestions would be great!
Just manually replace the recovery file.
Could you guide me through that? Sorry im a noob.

sorry had to do it. Seinfeld was a good show.
Hahaha, yes Seinfeld was a good show. No worries got my phone up and running, now to try this flashing crap again... OK, update.zip is on my INTERNAL SD CARD and still not booting into CWM. On the verge of giving up.
Did you try to manually replace the recovery file yet? ROM Manager doesn't always seem to work for it.
My method :
Flash the kernel+cwm by sgs kernel flasher apps.
if your rom.

[Q] Getting my hands on a bricked g2x today....

he said he bricked it trying to upgrade to ICS.
is the sticky at the top still the way to unbrick it? i noticed that a couple links were dead in the first post. granted i didn't go through all 17 pages, just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything newer then whats already been posted.
edit: he did say that the screen is showing s/w if that matters
Was it bricked by flashing a o2x rom? I think that may be the hardest brick I have heard of but still fixable. I believe if that is the case than following the sticky should restore the baseband and everything else.
Honestly though I would first try just reflashing CWM via nvflash, boot into recovery and load a stable GB rom. If that works, great.

You apparently you did not even read the first post. XP only, will not work with Windows 7.
"As many have stated, pushing the v21E_00.kdz via the KDZ_FW_UPD program does work. It's just touchy.
This is a step by step guide to get you back in to working shape.
Note: You MUST do this via a PC running Windows XP. Running Vista/7 in compatibility mode is not going to work, period.
Edit: As an alternative, a virtual environment running XP will do the job. Those steps are up to you."
That's not true. I updated the baseband using win7 on my first try. No need for comparability mode.

duple and lurker, thanks for the confirmation that it works with 7
when i try and push the kdz i get the dreaded phone not found.
ok im on my xp machine here at work and heres what i got:
Part 1: Download the files you will need below.
V21E_00.kdz
KDZ_FW_UPD_EN
One-Click-G2x-recovery-flasher-06-16.rar
LG USB Drivers G2x
Part 2:
1) Install the LG G2x USB drivers to your WinXP machine.
2) Extract the entire contents of the One-Click recovery in to a folder and keep it handy.
3) Remove the battery from the phone. Hold both volume buttons and plug in the USB cable. If you are asked for a driver, look in the APX folder where you extracted the One-Click recovery archive.
4) Run OneClickRecoveryFlasher.exe and flash the stock recovery. Wait for the process to finish and close all windows and unplug the phone.
no problems with above steps. after that nothing works. when i put the battery back in and turn on thats when i get the flashing black screen, not back to the s/w screen.
5) Put the battery back into the phone and turn it on. You will be back at the S/W Upgrade screen. This is where you want to be! Now plug the USB cable back in to the phone. If everything is up to snuff you should have no driver problems at this point.
6) Extract KDZ_FW_UPD_EN.7z in to a folder. Inside is a msxml.msi. You need to run and install this first!
7) Run KDZ_FW_UPD.exe.. Leave the type set to CDMA and the phone mode set to DIAG. DO NOT CLICK ON "Read phone information"
8) Click the folder icon and load the V21E_00.kdz
9) Click launch software update (and pray!)
ok just for craps and giggles i tried booting into recovery and actually got the box with arrow and android! but it then reboots back to the lg screen and then flashing black screen

also it appears that the market wasn't on that version of the rom. is that a quick fix?
Now you have the recovery and baseband sorted, start from scratch and do a full wipe(including system internal/external SD). Then flash a stable ROM Weapon/EB to make sure everything is good. Just my 2 cents

You were lucky, indeed!
A CM nightly can be stable too, however I would flash either Weapon or Eagles Blood for a couple of days to have a piece of mind that everything is working cool. The most important would be a proper full wipe (cache, dalvik, system under mounts and storage, battery stats and imho internal and external SD too) too get rid of the previous mess caused by the unsuccessful flash, etc.

Caught in a loop - Guidance Please.

Good morning -
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I'm an existing user of the Galaxy Nexus and have been rooting / flashing it without any issue, but a little stumped on what went wrong with the captivate.
I picked up a brand new Captivate for my wife from Craigslist the other night for $60. I really nice phone...very nice screen.
I was successful in rooting it last night all though I did have to copy a recovery file into the system/bin. I believe that was because of a signature issue I was having and found some information on this site regarding the file.
Anyway, everything seem to have rooted fine and I copied CM9 to the proper location. Booted into ClockWorkMod and flashed the ROM.
However, it now boots to the AT&T screen, goes black, and then back to the AT&T screen. I can between ATT screens a script or something running.
I then used ODIN to get back to stock and appears it went through without any issues. However, it still gets in the same loop at the AT&T screen. I am still able to get into download mode. Perhaps I used the wrong ODIN.
Would someone have an idea of the next step? Do I need to get into some type of boot screen to do another master reset / format?
Thanks.
The first time when you were seeing the AT&T screen, a script screen, then rebooting, what was happening was that the phone needed to have the CM9 zip flashed again. The first time you flashed it, it essentially built the framework onto which the second flash would actually put CM9 in place.
As for where you are right now, you may want to flash back to a Gingerbread-based stock rom with bootloaders included (unless you're 100% certain it already has the Gingerbread bootloaders). There's a sticky in the development section that has all the stock roms.
Once you've flashed back to stock Gingerbread, try flashing the CM9 zip again. If it does the boot loop again, just hold Vol+/Vol-/Power until it reboots, and it should put you in ClockworkMod Recovery. At that point, just flash the CM9 zip again and you should be good to go.
One word of warning, as you're new to the Captivate. ICS-based roms, on some occasions, have a bug that can cripple the internal SD card of the Captivate. I'd suggest you look for the "Encryption Unsuccessful" thread in the Development section and read up a little bit so you are aware what that is.
Thank you for the assistance.
Is this where I should start for the ODIN?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18370912&postcount=3.
In particular, 'I897UCKK4 Odin One Click - Stock, CONTAINS Bootloaders, Re-partition, Full Wipe'
Thanks.
That looks correct to me. I'm assuming you'll need the bootloaders package, as you had mentioned you were dealing with the 3e signature error (which, if I recall correctly, is associated with stock Froyo roms).
Okay. Maybe next time I should just stick with a non-ICS ROM. Just need to find one in the development section.
Thanks a bunch! A great little phone and the screen is just outstanding.
Okay....back up and running using "In particular, 'I897UCKK4 Odin One Click - Stock, CONTAINS Bootloaders, Re-partition, Full Wipe" from the above link.
However, now I can't get the one click root to work.
There's an easier way. Go to the Corn Kernel, grab a CWM-based zip file and flash it from within CWM recovery. That will give you the Corn Kernel, which will (I believe) give you root access.
Double check, though, that you can get to CWM recovery by using the V+/V-/Power key combo. It should have about 9 options (instead of the 4 in standard recovery).
If you don't have CWM recovery from the flash you just did, you'll just need to grab another one-click that has CWM baked in. There's one that says "Without Bootloaders - Link to thread - by 4-2ndtwin [With CWM Injected Kernel from Boog]". That flashes KH3, no bootloaders, but with the CWM-friendly kernel.

i thought that i might have been rooted since i can run diff rom managers, i do have super user access, titanium back up and a few others must have root apps. But i will try and thank you very much sir
If Titanium Backup asked for Superuser permission and you granted and TB did not say you are not rooted then you are correct, you are rooted. My answer still holds to go to post 2 to get the proper recovery.
Edit: + 10 on not using ROM Manager. (from Andros11 below)
Do not use Rom Manager. You can either flash Entropy's DD kernel to get red cwm recovery or look in the iset thread for gtg's guide for installing cwm, and use method 1 which requires you have the 3e modded recovery.

ok ok for sure thank you very much i was wondering what i was doing wrong so i will take it all back to stock and start from scratch on this one here. But one more question i feel like there is an instability in the os so this what really prompted me to root this phone. The usb works at times, it turns on when it wants, it turns off and locks freezes completely when it wants, to turn it on i have to remove the battery put it back in then when the battery shows i have to plug in to the usb port for the computer to get it to start. Overall i do not know what my friend did to his phone but it's a night mare. have you heard of this occuring with anybody else sir?
But i have managed to unlock and get free wifi hotspot out of it smh
I like your approach, however it sounds like the problems may be related more to:
a : power button may be sticking
b: may have issues with usb connection, either on phone or on computer or both.
Before you go any further, make a backup of the current rom on the phone if possible.
Understood, i will flash the new CWM, back up then progress forward on that note. As for the usb i've used several and the one i am using right now is not registering where it did yesterday, and it is like a females emotions very fickle in nature. I will play with it a lil bit more to see if i can download via usb if not i'll use the sd-ms card to pick up the files and move forward at that point. Thank you very much sir you have been a big !!
