Spare battery? - Galaxy Tab 8.9 Accessories

Guys, do you know if it's possible to change battery and where to find a new one?

It is actually quite possible to change the battery, however I've yet to find a site that sells one. I wish I could remember the sight that posted a tear down of the 8.9 . It showed that there was only a ribbon cable blocking access to it which was easily unplugged. There was also no glue involved. The back casing just has clips to hold it in place.

I've read a couple of websites showing the disassembly of this tablet, and as far a I understood it's very easy. But the problem is to find a replacement battery. On ebay I've found only 10.1 battery.
Btw do you know whether the 10.1 battery somehow fits 8.9?

Compatibility with Milestone/Droid

Just to get things going, I thought I would quickly document my findings with regard to a couple of compatiblilty issues with the original Milestone/Droid.
Screen Protectors: I've tried a few different types of screen saver, some of which were designed for the original Milestone. They are the right size in terms of width and height, but the radius of the corners of the original Milestone seems to be a bit smaller, so I've found it necessary to trim the corners a little to get it to fit. (As an aside, I did purchase a Savvies protector for the Milestone 2, and it's simply the wrong size, and after some discussion with them, they sent one for the original Milestone, which has to have the corners cut to make it fit. However, I can't recommend the Savvies protector, as it is far too easy to scratch. I would recommend Brando, and Martin Fields protectors, which are much more resilient).
Cradles: I've tried a couple of non-OEM cradles, and one is a much better fit than the other.
The Kidigi cradle, specifically designed for the original Milestone, doesn't work well with the Milestone 2. It has two problems. Firstly, it moulds around the end of the phone where the buttons are, and due to differences in the sizes of the phones in this area, it prevents the Milestone 2 from sitting in place properly (you can cut off the protrusion, and the phone will fit). Secondly, the magnet used to inform the phone it's in a multimedia cradle seems to be in the wrong place (which can be fixed by modifying the internals of the cradle).
The Paserro cradle, which again is designed for the original Milestone/Droid, works perfectly without modification with the Milestone 2.
What I would say is that I had to replace the power supplies for OEM Motorola ones, as the screen freaks out using regular power supplies.
Cheers,
Steve.
dock
hi i would like to buy a dock fot the milestone 2 and a friend of mine wants to sell me his but he has got the milestone dock will that work for mine? and if not where can i gad one at a good price
It could work - it just depends on the exact style of the dock. As I said in my original post, the Paserro docks (shiny black, with blue light at the right hand edge) work just fine. The Kidigi docks (matt black, with blue light in the centre) only work with some modifications.
Will your friend let you try it first?
Cheers,
Steve.
Of course
Sent from my MotoA953 using XDA App
I tried with brazilian docks and they both works on the 2 milestones.
i had a similar experience with non motorola chargers too. i bought one from ebay for a spare and the phone went really slow, it wouldnt unlock properly and it was all very wierd lol. as soon as i unplugged it everything was fine. although i tried a sony ericsson charger and that worked no problems. so maybe the moral of the story is to use decent branded chargers rather than generic ones. original motorola chargers are only £4 on ebay anyway, so only £2 more than the unbranded one.
I've got no problems so far sharing chargers with my HTC Wildfire, regardless which direction: WF charges fine with Moto cable, and the other way around as well. After all, that's how it should be and what the standard is supposed to guarantee -- or am I wrong? So I really wonder what was going on with your cable, anothadave... (don't get me wrong: My question is regarding the what, not the if -- I believe you, **** happens!
samsung wave/galaxy s charger work too
The expansys charger dock for Milestone2 is backward compatible with Milestone1.

[Q] HD2 (Tmobile) Rigid Flex Board Replacement

I recently, accidentally dropped my T-Mobile HTC HD2 in a puddle, luckily i was able to pick it up and dry it off before any permanent damage was done. I let it sit under a heat lamp for a day or so, but it was still glitching, so i took the phone apart, put the logic board, rigid flex board and LCM under the lamp and let dry over night.
The phone is now working flawlessly with the exception of the volume control buttons, which i seemingly tore from rest of the rigid flex board upon dis-assembly. Of course the take-apart video that i was using didn't say anything about making sure to separate it.
I realize that I am an idiot for having done so.
My issue is that I am having a hard time finding a flex board replacement anywhere online. I am able to find them quite easily, for the international version, but as far as i am aware, they are not compatible with the U.S T-Mobile version.
So what i am asking, is:
1) are they compatible?
2) if not, does anyone know of a trustworthy site in-which i could purchase one?
3) does anyone have one that i might possibly purchase from you?
I appreciate your time in reading and any and all help is extremely grateful.
-DeadEndRoad117
nothing guys?
I'm holding out buying an international board, waiting for someone to reply and let me know if they're compatible or not..
ends up there was a cell phone repair shop near me that was able to find what i needed. the international version does use a different board, which requires soldering.

wondering what the best case for an Hd2 is?

And it's here... Great, few queries tho...

Hey everybody,
Got my GNote 10.1 yesterday and I had a blast last night (only had lil bit of sleep, and it continues tonight again). Order from Amazon two weeks ago, it got to my peeps in Miami last week, and it got to Belize 2 days ago.
What a difference compared to my previous ThinkPad tablet. It's really smooth and that's because I haven't tried my art apps yet. Hopefully Sketchbook Pro works better on this tab. Few questions tho:
1. Has anybody noticed that sometimes the tablet locks on pen only? This morning I had to restart the machine because it was only registering pen and touches every now and again. And I know, the pen was not close to the screen (it was right on my desk). Just want to know if this was isolated or I'll be having this intermittently.
2. I see my tablet came already with ICS 4.0.4 IMM76D.N8013UEALGB. I thought there a later firmware update, but I saw the thread that somehow it was pulled. My question is, I thought the tablet shipped with an earlier build number. Can it be a case where Amazon sent me an Open Box product, refurbished, or a tab that was previously owned and updated? The tablet box had both of its seals at the bottom of it torn but the box passed thru so many hands that I will never know if Amazon sent the box like that.
Thanks for reading, and glad being part of this community.

Welcome on board! Glad you are enjoying your new Note.
1. This should not happen, I have only experienced this when the pen is near the screen as it should be.
2. If the seals were damaged, it is quite probable that it is a returned unit possibly due to the fault you described and the fact that the firmware has been upgraded.
If I were you, I would not take any chances and get the unit changed. The problems you described could be due to the firmware which is why it seems to have been pulled by Samsung.

I contacted Amazon and the CSR says that the product is spanking new and I'm the first customer. I just bought it and had for only over a day, and if I want I can return it, but I live all the way in Belize and it's kinda pricey to Fedex stuff out to the US that way. Hopefully the screen freezing and not responding too well to touch (but the pen) was just momentary and is not a real issue. Having an updated firmware was kinda surprising to me too.
Thanks dude for the answers and the welcome.

Hey, Ron. Mine came with 4.04, and my seals were in tact, but nearly severed during shipping. There were a hundred little pieces of plastic on the tablet - if those were in tact I think you're safe that it is indeed new. Amazon doesn't ship used or refurbished unless it is a "Warehouse Deal". Any item bought through the regular site and sold by Amazon will be new.
I am unclear as to what you mean by "locks" in item 1. Please elaborate.

BTW, Congrats! Hope you enjoy the tab. I love it. Butter smooth in comparison to the TPT.

Hey dude!
Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the clarification. When I said "the screen locks..." I meant that the screen did not respond to touch; only to pen input. And as far I know I have not seen a pen-only input option on the tablet so I knew something wasn't right. But anyways, it hasn't done it since, so I think I'm safe.
Now, with the seals broken, it is possible that shipping did that, or Customs in the US, or the shipping company from Miami to Belize, or Customs in Belize... Probably I'll never know. However, I didn't see no hundreds of lil pieces of plastic in my box. Do you mean the shipping box or the Samsung tablet box? My shipping box had those air pockets sort of thing they put in boxes to absorb shocks. My Sammy box had nothing but the tablet on top.
Ron
But my tablet was protected with thin transparent plastic foils on the tablet, large ones and small ones, on the corners, ... If they were there (front and back) it is quite unprobable that someone already used the phone.
The problem of the non-responsive touch screen sounds like a modified rom (see the section here), did you root the device and if yes, how?

Yeah, the tablet had litle transparent soft plastic stickers (covers) on the front, edges and back (if that is what you meant). My tablet is unrooted. I'm not that naive to technology and I'm quite a fanatic and deal with gadgets pretty well; but I haven't gathered the guts and enough research to root the tablet.
I read that few of them have been bricked and that there are issues when upgrading. So, I think I'll either pass or wait.
Thanks

Genuine Samsung S5 Extended Battery 3500 mAh and Cover

Hi All,
I am looking for extended battery as few more people here, but I find this one:

looks like is genuine product, is there anyone who using this battery and could give me more details about life and about dimensions and maybe photos to compare with standard one, many thanks.
It is original samsung kit. Bought it 10 minutes ago. Will see if it add me more on screen time. will report later
Thanks for let me know, when arrive could you compare size how much bigger is to standard battery, and take some photos with and without cover on, to see real world examples as I spend few days searching on goggle an no luck about more information...

Will try to take some photos. I already have it, bought it from our local shop . Phone is heavier and a bit thicker. I could take some separately photos of back cover and battery. Don't have any camera to take photos then battery is in the phone.
edit: yeah this is legit, my previous suspicions are cleared now
I believe as is genuine product, it will remain same way as standard cover, handtec.co.uk have them in due: http://www.handtec.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s5-extended-battery-kit-eb-eg900bbegww.html, looks very promising as 3500 mAh was my ideal size battery for good 2 days use.

OK. Found my work iPhone and took some pictures. Here is how it's look on the phone and some back cover photos. It's easier to give link to my dropbox gallery. Here it is LINK
Good morning, thanks for photos, looks exactly I was hoping for and not too bulky, I ordering mine from amazon.de as is only £24, in uk is £35 , and still will be send to me from amazon.uk as I done with few items before
Nice, i paid £31
I don't know if it's my eyes messing with me, but it doesn't look that much thicker.
It's not very thick. But if you look at photo there is camera, you will see that camera isn't popped up anymore as it is in original back cover. With this battery cover camera is hidden in cover. Don't know if anyone understood what i said . Just compare camera area between original back cover with photo from my gallery.

I am glad some people find this battery useful as for me is good compromise between standard and brick battery zero lemon or similar, I just hope I could find rugged case this phone with this battery fit in, as I really like tech21 impact case - but no chance will fit in, but for outdoor I am using NewTrent rugged case and I finding one of best case available: http://www.amazon.com/New-Trent-Ultra-thin-Shockproof-Compatible/dp/B00KB9AWEE, and reviews from over 500 people saying same thing, only I hope I can somehow manage to accommodate S5 with small extended battery in to this case too
YES! Was waiting for the OEM Extended Battery with all the features retained. As someone in the States, get the hell on bringing this over Samsung!
FYI, just because it says Samsung doesn't mean its legit. Samsung doesn't have it listed, and if you call they have no idea about it.

I agree with you. However, it should still be close to the listed capacity since you can tell it is definitely larger than the OEM one. Now, that doesn't necessarily speak to its quality. But typically the fakes like to list capacities much higher than the actually produce.

I believe is genuine as is attached on Handtec website original OEM number from Samsung, customer service-support many times don't know about product manufacture offer, and could be is only for limited regions.

why not just buy zerolemon 7500mah ?
While i give you props for making it work, i don't think its useful on our device.. We have removeable batteries and there are extended batteries that work just fine and bypass all the fire/Explosion/damaging risks.
Congrats on actually pulling this off!
Although, are you planning on getting a different back cover though?, I honestly don't see that lasting very long....

I looked at the album the only thing I am unclear on, and have a question about is what you did or used for making the batteries stay in place. It looks like just using leather that you forced formed around the batteries, and case. Is that what you did? I'm looking at better ways of keeping my battery in place, while your idea looks good, im just not sure what you did exactly or used. Or if the is actually a possibility of using something more lightweight, and smaller.
I used to have a double battery on an old blackberry, it was just to noticeable when sitting in my pocket. I can see the same thing happening here. Regardless awesome work, cool mod.
It's nice that it's possible, but with such a big back I don't think it's all that useful. Furthermore, how long does charging take? Twice as much or more?
I love the idea. I just have one question. Does it correctly show the battery percentage now?
Just buy zerolemon extended battery.
Instead of making your own DIY S4 bomb on your pocket.

Nais, mldc geras darbas tikrai
Haha love the idea. Congratz for pulling this off. Would have never thought of it. Initially I thought you somehow squeezed the two into the same one-size space - insane. I would personally go for an aftermarket build, but if you go creative enough I think you can still pull something interesting for a DIY proj. Some ideas:
1. put the battery in a thick plastic wrap (compact) and connect it to your phone via usb.
2. attach velcro on the battery and your phone and continue with step 1. you will have more or less what you have now, except it is modular - detachable.
n. hammer the two batteries into one so you have double the capacity - just dreaming... :fingers-crossed:
You pretty much end up into solutions that are already out there. Even so, I think you could end up with a bit more compact solution. Hackish in the same time.
Good luck
