Hi I have a question, Is the ROMs of the one s can be applied on the one xl?
It's the same processor, so why not?
Thank for your reading, and waiting for answers.

I doubt it. The One S has a qHD display, while the One X has a 720p HD display.

probably similar to x roms running on xl. it'll need some tweaking first, probably it's own frameworks. i'm sure a conversion kit will come out eventually.

Everything in the phone will have to be extrapolated from qHD to 720p.
It will look thoroughly awful.
Also, they're NOT the same processor. They're in the same processor family (S4), so porting from the One S to the One XL would be fairly easy (other than screen resolution.)
Aside from the screen being a different size, it's a different screen technology (AMOLED vs SuperLCD2) so display drivers wouldn't work.
And of course the radios will be different, so if you flashed a One S radio to an XL, you're probably going to cause problems.
The last note I can think of is that the partitions on the two phones *may* be laid out differently, which would need some attention.
As I see it, porting from the One S to the XL (and vice versa) will be very easy, but why bother?

Don't know.
Flashing a radio that isn't for a phone of the same codename (ie. Endeavor for OneX, Ville for OneS, etc.) will result in a surefire brick.
qHD ported ROMs would also look like pixelated crap because everything would be upscaled.

Ok, it has virtually the same specs. Less RAM though??
Good news, we can get a ROM port from it and enjoy the new Sense 4.0
Will you say its a successor to our phone or not?

Advantages over Desire S
1) Actually, the One V has a better screen than us.
Ours is SLCD, this is SLCD2.
According to Paul obrien, it is so amazing, it makes his Galaxy Nexus look 10 years old!
Bloody hell, that says a lot!
2) it also has a better camera, it has a wider lens..
3) larger battery - 1500mah compared to our 1450mah.
Although, the SLCD2 May drain more battery

Definitly NOT, the ONE S is the successor of our DS.
The ONE V is just the ugly successor of the Legend.

Thanks for the input mate
Yeah, I think this is meant to be the successor to the Legend/Wildfire S.
It has near the same specs as us. This is considered a low-end phone. It will be priced around the same margin as the current Wildfire S. This means our phone is now low-end!!
Can you imagine, when the DHD was released, it was a top of thre range high end phone - ann android lovers dream, but now the specs of the DHD are in a low end phone!
IMO, it looks like a sexy device!

This appears to be an error from GSMArena as specs from htc's own website for One V show Sense 4.0 on it http://www.htc.com/au/smartphones/htc-one-v/#specs
It also shows that the phone does have a microSD expansion slot as read reader comments from a review site being critical of the phone for not having one
Yes, its still Sense 4 but with less animations (imo not a bad thing).
From what Ive seen on the videos so far, the cube animation when switching homescreens and the new coverflow taskmanager("recent apps") are missing.
As said before, its very similar to our DS, i dont see a reason to upgrade (i will wait one more year).
it have some specs that are a little better (screen, camera), but other are worth (storage, ram, size, battery).
but we can port roms, and get better support for next year
about the new task manager, i liked it, sad it is missing
we have more ram. if we get kernel 3.0 then i say desire s is much better then this one.
What none of you seem to have noticed... is that the One V doesn't have a front facing camera! No 3G video calling on your One V sir!
Also, HTC seems to have dropped the Search key from the entire lineup of the "One" series phones (only three buttons now)... One of the reasons i like my phone is because of that damn button.. it's just too frigging convenient!
So the DS still kicks its ass.
But seriously... is HTC nuts? No front camera? Who does that in today's world man?!

Some things missing, but a direct WVGA port, with no resizing? Makes me smile inside.
Personally, the One S just went right to the top of my list, but still a long time away, when it drops price.

Thanks dan. But i think he just got the resolution part wrong, not the device. (wouldn't want to upgrade to a device without a front camera...)
No front camera then (One V)... so again, driver issues with that one (will have to kang it over from elsewhere).
And if he was talking about the One V, it is hardly worth considering as your next device. We have much more going for the DS... as i posted above. If considering an upgrade, at least think of the One S, or the One X (if you manage to rob a bank!!)
I meant that a direct port of the One V will be way easier than from the other models, due to the hardware similarity (apart from the non-existing FFC).
The One S went to the top of my to buy list, somewhere down the road.

Read the post carefully.
The confusion was regarding the screen resolution on the One S.
I do not know you well enough to gauge your taste in devices, so cool it.
just wondering would it be possible that One S roms get ported to the One XL? I know that they have the same chipset so theoretically it should work right. I am contemplating if I should sell my One XL and get the International GSM One X since it has more development options and ROMs etc :L
Nobody will stop you from going over to the International One X. Of you want a One S ROM ported, why not try it yourself? We have great devs and dev teams here, not sure why you'd complain about it.

I'm pretty sure the new ones do have a 1.7ghz s3... I frequent the one s forum too since my gf has the phone. The older one s has a 1.5ghz dual core s4 just like us...
It's on Wikipedia if you dont believe me lol.
Team venom makes roms for both phones, might want to give them a ring if you're curious about portability.
True. I wasnt complaining about the development here because I'd great but I can't help but notice the wider support for the One X and S.
Anyway I was just curious about what other people thought and it'd be a bit of a hassle for me to swap to a international ver. Since team.venom are here I'm happy for now. And plus the XL is rare, especially here in Australia. We also get 32gb storage unlike most of u who only have 16gb on AT&T ;P

The screen resolution is very different between the S (540 x 960) and XL (720 x 1280). So on top of any other differences (CPU, etc.), a bunch of the graphics in the UI would need to be re-scaled. It can be done, and ports from various devices with different resolutions has happened in the past. But it adds all that much more work. Unless the ROM is going to bring something really new to our device, there isn't much point in all the work.
I'm trying to understand how making custom ROMs works, and I love sense based ROMs so I was wondering that since the One X+ has been released with a (presumably) new version of Sense, will that soon be able to be ported to the One XL? Or is this different since the processors in the devices are different etc? Could someone educate me just a little bit?
Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge, One X goes with Android 4.0 and "Sense 4"
And from what I've read One X+ has Android 4.1 and "Sense 4.1". [from HTCs website]
Either way, If you like Sense there are roms that have been modded so you get the latest version of sense on your phone.
If all you want is strict Sense 4.1, try CleanRom.
I stuck with the Sense roms for awhile, then went over to CM10, and now am at Liquid.
They aren't as much different roms, as Android 4.0 shipped on the One X and Android 4.1 shipped on the One X+.
And to answer the next, roms on different phones are generally different because yes, the specs are different. Where you may have a phone with a bigger screen and a hardware keyboard, I have a phone with a small screen and a touch screen keyboard. The specs are easily different, requiring some modding - would be required to get the same stable rom on both phones.
The one x + is running sense on top of jelly bean. Just be patient, and have faith in our devs. They will port it when it's ready.

Bingo.
I have full faith in the Devs and can't believe the hard work they do to support all of our habits , I started flashing a month ago and I am totally addicted, finally feel like the money I spend on my cell phone plan and on the device itself has come full circle because of the hard work of developers.
In any event - thanks for confirming what I thought about the differences in processors and porting OSs to the XL. I'll keep my eyes peeled for when JB is released for the XL hopefully before the new year.
Got that right!

I too had an Inspire and that phone benefited from the European Desire HD being the same phone. If you look at the International One X forum it looks just like the Desire HD forum, a lot of the same devs are there. Our One X doesn't have as many different ROMs as those other phones but the ones we do have are top notch. If the devs we have stay around here I'll definitely be a happy camper for the 2 years that I'll have this phone.

Hi all...
I currently live over in the Sensation forums, I have a rooted Sensation XE.
I just wanted to know whether it was worth upgrading to the One XL.
A few questions:
1. How much screen on time do you guys generally get? (Battery life.)
2. Is the signal strength (cellular) of this phone bad? (The Sensation is pretty awful.)
3. Does this phone overheat a lot?
4. Are there any known manufacturing defects with this phone? (For example Sensation has dust gathering underneath the screen.)
5. And also, is it getting official Sense 5?
If all goes well, I will probably get one off eBay, used, but in good condition, with warranty.
Thanks a lot guys.

1. On average about 3, but people have gotten up to 6 with about 12 hours total.
2. I don't believe so...
3. No
4. This phone is occasionally known to go from full charge to zero completely randomly, and sometimes just stop working entirely.
5. Yes
I've never had a problem with mine. Accessories are hard to find. It was depressing when HTC almost immediately replaced it with a new model. Development is a little slow but what there is is amazing. I've gotten close to 20 hours on the sense 5 port.

So would you say it is "easy" to get at least 5 hours of screen on time? Because one of the reasons for my upgrade is the need for better battery life.
(In comparison, my Sensation gets a smidge over 4 hours screen on time if used VERY conservatively.)

I mean, if you just went from 100%-0% you could probably get 5-6 hours easy. With normal standby time as well, probably not. I once got 29 hours with 4.5 hours screen on. That's the best I've ever gotten but generally battery life is very good. Side note: Sense ROMs provide better battery.

I tried to do this, but it's not easy. I couldn't get everything apart.
This is my fifth android device since the Dream (aka G1) and it's the first one that makes me feel like android was finally done right.
It certainly will feel like an upgrade from the sensation, and apart from external speaker sound it doesn't feel like a downgrade from a One.
My buddy has a one and I played extensively. If I didn't know the specs I would have assumed they were about equal. The One has a better screen, but only if you look closely.
What I'm trying to say is this: you will have a hard time doing much better than this phone right now. Quad core and 1080p screen with 2gb ram is cool, but I couldn't really tell a huge difference. They are both fast and smooth. On the other hand, this will blow you away after the sensation
Edit: also, I bought an Anker Slimtalk external battery for like $30 off amazon and I've never worried about battery life since. I can charge the phone in my pocket unless I'm wearing stupid tight hipster skinny jeans (which never happens)

Thanks for the very useful & helpful replies guys.
I have some more questions:
I am really confused, I am trying to buy this phone here in Europe (UK), and there is a lot of conflicting information in regards to specs. Some websites say that the One XL has 800/1800/2600 Mhz LTE bands, where as some say it only has 1800/2600 Mhz bands - i.e missing out on the 800Mhz "crucial" frequency which has better penetration inside buildings, and provides coverage for far reaching signals in suburban/regional areas...
Also, a lot of eBay listings say it has 16GB internal storage, whereas others say it has 32GB. I thought the One XL only came in 32GB?? http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_xl-4572.php
What device/model designations did HTC give this phone, and what are the differences, if any? (Eg, Z560e etc...)
Thanks a lot once again guys.
I'm not sure about the bands, maybe it's the difference between the One XL and the One X, you're currently in the One XL forum. The differences between the two models are:
One XL: Qualcomm dual core processor and LTE compatible. For some stupid reason this model is also branded as a One X by some carriers like AT&T, causing a lot of confusion.
One X: Tegra quad core processor and not LTE compatible. Often referred to as the International One X.
What I do know there is there's a model of the XL which was released here in Australia (exclusively to Telstra network I think) which has 32gb capacity. All other models have 16gb.

To answer the topic in my words yes is worth upgrading to the One XL from the sensation. You get a better processor, camera, and display. If I remember the sensation is on the old qualcom s3 processor. Depending on what your doing the phone shouldn't get to hot unless your watching long movies or playing games. I would suggest buying a case because the phone is so lite you might feel like it will break.

Yep, happened to me and G4 Man, if you take apart the phone and reposition the wire that is bent at a 90° angle, the display will turn on, for reasons unknown, and for more reasons unknown it shorts the wire and it literally ignites.

Hi,
I ask here for your help because I am planning to buy a new phone in the near future, and I am currently deciding between the One S with Snapdragon S4 and the One X with Tegra 3.
I would be very, very grateful if someone could tell me which one is better from the perspective of custom ROM development. Which one has more stable and less buggy CyanogenMod or similar AOSP-based ROMs? I've been lurking here in the One S and One X sections for some time and I can see that neither of those two phones is bugless, but I don't know how severe these problems are, if it is a dealbreaker or you can live with it. Also I get the feeling that the Tegra 3 is lacking in terms of development support and Qualcomm devices are better suited for future development. Is that so or am I wrong?
Another thing which I consider is the display quality, although it is not the main one. Does the One S screen have problems displaying white, does it have some tint? I generally love the AMOLED deep blacks, so these points will probably go to the One S.
Just one more question, how does the picture quality from the Sense camera compare to picture quality from CyanogenMod? I know Sense takes better pictures because it is optimized for the hardware, but is it a big difference?
Thank you very much for your answers, I aprecciate your help.
PS.: I posted a similar question here in the One X forum, if you want to take a look.
I had the One X and i still got the One S, so i can tell you what i like about them and what i dislike.
I would generally go with the One S because it has much much better ROM development because of the qualcomm chipset. Tegra is the WORST chipset i have ever used. I think its very hard to write drivers etc. for it. The One S has also the ability to get S-OFF'd which is a big plus for me personally. The guys at the HOX forums never managed it to gain S-OFF.
The only thing i like more at the HOX is the Display. Its by far the best 720p display i've seen so far but the HOS display is also not even close to bad. I don't think the HOS'es whites are yellow or somewhat. It isn't as white as SLCD Displays but i think thats normal for S-AMOLEDs.
Go with the One S you won't regret it

Thank you really much for the info, that is what I needed. It's a pity I can't find a One XL from a seller I'd trust or with at least some warranty in the Czech Republic.
This is what HTC says on Reddit (and that answers the part about Nvidia vs Qualcomm quite honestly):
To address an issue that’s top of mind for many folks here, we recently announced that we wouldn’t be updating the HTC One X and One X+ beyond Android 4.2. Without the support of our chip manufacturer Nvidia, it made a global update of One X and X+ devices impossible. However, in US the One X uses the Qualcomm chip and an upgrade would be possible, but we didn’t think it would be a good experience for our customer base to update the X, but not the X+. This update caused a huge stir amongst owners and we’ve heard you loud and clear, so we’re now actively exploring how we can make the jump to 4.4.

So, Qualcomm FTW. But one thing I can't understand is how the Nexus 7 2012 got KitKat, when it's using the Tegra 3 too. It still feels like Nvidia abandoned it on 4.1, though.
Buy a Moto G, investing in a HTC One S is not worth it at this point

If they sold the Moto G in the Czech Republic, I'd be thinking about it a lot. But they don't, so the One S comes at the top of my "cheap but great" phone list. And when I compare these two phones, I think the One S has a better camera and design than the Moto G, so the decision would not be easy, too.
