[Q] Can't downgrade to lower SBF after 4.5.692 - phone is bricked - Droid 2 Global General

Hi all,
I am asking this question for a friend who is oversea. She have Motorola Droid 2 Global. Initially, she was using SBF 4.5.608 then she upgraded her phone to SBF 4.5.629. Everything works fine and dandy until she decided to downgrade it to 2.330 in order to wipe her phone and reset it. For some reason, the phone is bricked. She can't downgrade to any lower SBF version. She's getting error message upon boot. Charging doesn't seem to work either.
The error message that showed up is:
Bootloader
D2.35
err A50,70,70,00,1F
MEM_MAP Blank
Service Req'd
Battery OK
OK to program
Tranfer Mode: USB.
I am seeking tips and advices from the hive mind and hoping someone can help.
Thank you in advance.

This is a known problem, threads all over various forums. Basically, until/unless the 4.5.629 SBF gets leaked, nothing can be done. Some people have been able to convince Verizon that the problem was caused by a bad update and get the phone replaced, and Motorola has reflashed it for some as well, but this seems to be on a case by case basis.

are you sure it says
Bootloader
D2.35

D2G should say
Bootloader
D0.11

looks like she has R2D2 or Droid 2 not D2G
same problem though, maybe, if she upgraded to 4.5.622.A957 not good
find out for sure what model number A957, A956, A955, or A953
I wrote some differences, it's not real precise or finishedThe Difference Between:
The Droid 2, Milestone2, R2D2,and the Droid 2 Global
I think she flashed wrong SBF, if so just flash correct one, should be fine

Thanks, I guess it seemed many people have bricked their phone because Verizon decided to stop people from reversing back to older sbf.

I sent her the question. I think she tried different SBF and no luck so far.
Thanks!!!

i was gonna try the "bad update and send it into verizon" idea and get my phone replaced, since it doesnt come stock .629 . Thus problem solved??

if you get a different phone, it should be on 2.4.33 if new, they may try to give you a refurbished
you are going to send it?
they can just flash 4.5.629 and send back to you
they have the SBF, just won't share

[Q] Field device/engineering phone?

I got a warranty replacement D2 today. When I first powered up the phone it bootlooped. Needing a working phone, I SBF'd and got it up and running. What struck me as odd was that RSD Lite 4.8 saw the phone as Engineering (see screenshot below) with no ESN/MEID. In hindsight, I should have taken a screenshot. I'm a little concerned because the phone has a bootloader 2.37 loaded onto it versus version 2.35 on my old D2. While the SBF worked to put the software on it the first time, would I run into problems with subsequent SBF's?
UPDATE: Screenshot added. Trying to SBF again did not work.
That has always done the same thing for me in terms if the rsd lite display info. And you flashed to a newer bootloader (2.37) which is a good thing since its supposed to give better battery life versus the old one.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Any idea why SBF'ing again would fail? I've tried 3x and every time it has come back Code Corrupt. I have plenty of battery and have redownloaded the SBF twice.
Try updating to RSDlite 4.9 or use linux.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Thanks for the replies. There is something majorly wrong with the phone. After 4 consecutive SBF's, I got it to boot. While trying to restore my GVoice settings, my voicemail settings hung so I rebooted the phone. It bootlooped again. Plugging it in to RSD Lite yielded the same results. It's as if the phone wipes its nand memory every reboot. I have already talked to Verizon and have another replacement on the way.
OMG make a hard copy of everything that you can regarding the bootloader on that handset. I've been a network engineer for years, what you have is a field device. In other words: what you have is what we need to crack eFuse and unlock Kernal!

Let me know what you need me to do. The bootloader is version 2.37.
Why are you so sure this in a field device? All moto phones have always had engineering and test modes that the phone could be dropped into, and would persist until removed from them. Not to mention, BL 2.37 is nothing special, you can download it and flash it yourself (and honestly, you can go back and forth between 2.35 and 2.37, I've tested it on a regular D2 and it doesn't seem to care what bootloader it has). If you want the files, get them herehttp://and-developers.com/sbf:droid2?s[]=droid&s[]=2.
I don't know if it is a field device. That's what djblu seemed to think. I just found it odd that the nand is completely wiped on every reboot.

Atrix 2 weird case

Hey Guys, how's everything? I hope that you all are doing great. My friend has an atrix 2 and wanted me to check it out and root/etc. The person he bought it from somehow screwed up the phone during rooting or something like that as the seller told him. The problem is that i have literally tried everything in my knowledge that would possibly work but can't seemed to understand why the issue is and unable to understand anything to it. I would really appreciate any help.
The Issue, seems like the phone boots up fine, but when it comes to "touch the screen to set up" or whatever it is, it stays there for merely a second, whether i click it or not, it automatically goes to the main homepage. Now i have the at&t sim in but it won't read the sim, heck it won't even charge the phone though the phone is charging. I only see the option to dial emergency numbers.
What i have tried: I thought if i would just flash the sbf file and take it to stock, i can try to do stuff from there. I have...
Hard Resetted> no dice
Can't do soft since i can't really access the phone main apps/pages etc
Used the sbf of stock> Flashes fine, everything goes perfect, but phone still acting the same. I have never seen an issue like this. My major concern is that the battery doesn't charge and i only have about 15% battery left. Don't know what to do or what to try, You guys have any idea what exactly is going on here? Is there any way to still recover etc? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks
do you have the right sbf for your phone??

Hey, I hope so. I got the file from the roof section. I believe it is only for at&T, is there a different sbf that I might need that I might be missing? Could you post the link to the sbf tha you might think I should try?

First off to everyone in this thread, it is not an SBF it is an FXZ for the atrix2, always has been.
Here is the link to all the FXZ files for the Atrix 2, you will need to know which one you have:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/list.php
The phone is locked to a carrier, and it is not the SIM you have inserted. You must have a functioning SIM card (does your SIM work elsewhere?) from the carrier or get it unlocked. I don't know how to find out which one it is locked to, maybe your friend/original seller would.

Nope. It's not locked to the carrier since it is an at&T phone. I am with at&T and currently using my sim with a different phone. I was testing it out since I wanted to get something to working

Yes you can use rsd lite to return to 100% stock and then try the ota..i recommend upgrading to leak 1 since you cant go back to gb if you update to ics ota

Just use the 2.3.6 FXZ through RSD lite. If you want good webtop then stay at 2.3.6, because webtop 3.0 is more like tablet mode and not ubuntu anymore.
Here is a link to get the 2.3.6 fxz:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/InlineFlashing_edison_5.5.175.25_cfc_p3_APBP.xml.zip
All of the FXZ files are here:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/list.php
If you really want to try ICS, then I would go for leak one from 2.3.6 just do not root or install anything while in 2.3.6.
Here are the instructions for that. Again though ICS does not have ubuntu for webtop, it is just android in tablet mode:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779968
If you like the ubuntu webtop and want to stay on 2.3.6, my hack works really well for unlocking the full potential of ubuntu webtop, that is here:

What do you mean you replaced the boot image? please give me a link to the thread you go that from... that is quite disturbing.
What I need you to do is to flash the 2.3.6 fxz file with RSD lite, and watch each step and make sure you get a PASS at the end, if not you might be failing in one of the steps, I think there are like 18 steps or something in the AT&T FXZ. I really need to know which step it is failing on, it should be something like step 3/18 or something like that... I really need to know that or if it goes all the way to the end and say PASS.
If you can grab a screen shot of the error or PASS that might also help as well.

Yeah not the best idea. That ONLY should apply to NON-ATT phones, all you just did was put the 2.3.5 boot image on the 2.3.6 bad flash, you are still not whole. You may not be able to get this all right, after doing that, not easily at least... those instructions were out WAY before we had an official 2.3.6 FXZ, which is what you should be using.
I still need to know where RSD is failing, that is crucial to know what is happening.
From here on, if you want my help, DO NOT do anything unless I ask you to please!!! I am one the devs on this phone and our resident expert here. I am very meticulous, but I will get you back but you need to take this one step at a time, and do only what I ask and report back.

Yeah unfortunately you are screwed, sorry to say. The white LED means it is dead, no bringing it back. That is why I was trying to figure where things were going wrong, rather than having you risk further issues.
You might be able to find an atrix2 with a broken screen cheap on ebay and just put the good motherboard from that in your phone, and get yourself back up and running, I have seen them for 50-100 USD on ebay. There are instructions on how to replace the screen in the general section.

Hello, I am sorry if I am hijacking this thread but that is not my intention. I have a similar situation here that I need help with. I just bought a used Atrix 2 yesterday and I am unable to use that.
It is running the following:
Android Version: 2.3.5
System Version: 55.11.11.MB865.ATT.en.US
Build Number: 5.5.1-175_EDFFW1-11
It was in factory reset after mode so i followed the instruction to register with google and my gmail added. But when go to contacts, it keep rotating to open AT&T address book and never comes out of it. So I cannot use my google contacts and has to dial the numbers every time (sucks). Secondly, I called AT&T about the address book problem and was told that is not their problem and asked me to update the Android. I tried updating endlessly but the phone always says 'The software is upto date and no update is necessary!" really?
I called at&t again w/o much success. Then I called Motorola and was told that the phone is running a strange unofficial (really, again?) android version that they cannot help either.
I did confirm the phone is not rooted.
Now, I have a beautiful looking phone that i cannot use. I am not familiar with rooting and all sorta things and can you please help me so i can use this phone?
Thanks a ton.

[Q] Atrix 2 Bricked After Jellybean Fail PLEASE HELP

Hey guys,
I'm somewhat new to Jailbreaking and Rooting Android Devices. I was working on my rooted 4.0.4 Atrix 2 today and wanted to install JellyBean. My first attempt I used the RSD lite program to install it. Found it I was using the wrong ROM (I'm a noob) and was stuck at the bootloader. Then, I used Wonderful RSD lite to use my fxz I downloaded. I'm pretty sure i downloaded the wrong one, so It flashed and got to step 5 and then gave me a fail. Now the device won't power on and it's either because I went from a soft brick to a hard brick. Or, the battery died. i have the original charging which i'm doing right now. Please help I'm scared ****less.

If you can still get into fastboot mode, then it isn't hardbricked yet. What model is your phone? If it is AT&T branded, DO NOT FLASH IT!! It is for Asian retail, and international phones only.

Yeah, I was able to get it into Fastboot. When I was able to (Past Tense) I tried re-flashing it with RSDLite using a FXZ. But, I believe it was the wrong one and It attempted to flash and got stuck at 5/23 which was the bootloader. And now it won't boot, but I do believe it charges. Just won't turn on at all. It is under warranty

I hate to say this, it looks like you have hard bricked your A2. If it is still under warranty, return it to the vendor and play dumb. Do not tell your vendor that you tried to do a fxz. Good luck.

Atrix 2 ICS update failed

Hello, I'm new to these forums and I have tried to find a helpful answer to my issue but cannot, so here it goes. I have an Atrix 2 thats running Android 2.3.6, the phone was rooted with SuperOneClick last year. I updated to 2.3.6 OTA and had no problems at all. The ICS update is out I cannot get it OTA. I can download the update then the phone restarts, it appears to start installing but then stops and a triangle with "!" appears and the phone restarts. Once the phone restarts it says "Update Failed".
I have seen several others with the same issue but I do not understand how to fix it. And I am not sure if my stock ROM has been modified either.
I would greatly appreciate some help, I don't understand what I've done wrong here, Motorola says its because the phone is rooted, I've un-rooted it with no luck...

I have seen several others with the same issue but I do not understand how to fix it. And I am not sure if my stock ROM has been modified either.
I would greatly appreciate some help, I don't understand what I've done wrong here, Motorola says its because the phone is rooted, I've un-rooted it with no luck...

usually updates fail when bloatware or some other stock apps are removed. I believe the best way to get ICS on your phone is by flashing FXZ. But first we need more info about your Atrix 2. Is it an AT&T branded one?

You do NOT use odin on moto phones.
Please take a look here, it will explain all of the ins and outs that you need to know.

Updating to ICS on an AT&T phone even without the bloatware is very easy, just flash the ICS FXZ for AT&T, using the latest version of RSD lite.
AT&T ICS FXZ:

You will need to find RSD lite from moto on your own though, as it has been posted in the dev section a few times, and we do not usually link to the moto site since they are like nazi's over there about XDA.

Agreed on the Mot-azi. Im banning them after my next upgrade. A bunch of pigs they are.
On a much more positive note, thank you for making it easy. Ive been away from the android community for the last few years, but man has it grown! Im lovin it. Now only if we could get some better suport from the big app companies.
Has ubuntu ever been attempted in the atrix 2? Now that would be marvelous!

I have it running on my "dev phone" (Galaxy Nexus) right now, and it is nice, but a ton of things are not working yet, so I would not advise trying out just yet. I will try and get it working for the A2 in time, but a few things need be addressed first, mainly that it takes 500+MB of /system space, and the A2 is limited to 475MB in /system, so.... in getting it working, it is a meld between CM10.1 and the ubuntu UI on top of the CM 10.1 device files and drivers, but... to get the 100% real thing ported, will probably not be possible since the a2 has a locked bootloader, and the boot.img is very important to the ubuntu phone os, so.... we will see as time goes on, if I and others in here can get working on the a2 in at least the hybrid with cm10.1 format.
Also you do know that the webtop included with the A2 in 2.3 is ubuntu, right? I have a hack to get all the ubuntu stuff running in webtop, if that is something you might be interested in, but it does not work in ICS. That is why I stayed on leak 1 and never went to the official ICS version, so I could go back to GB for webtop when needed.

I updated mine the day it came out and I had a terrible time with it. The FXZ was not available at the time so I had ATT give me replacement phone. I used 2.3.6 for a little while, then I updated it again. This time though I did a factory reset before updating and everything went great. So I'd recommend doing a factory reset before updating and maybe you will have better luck. Or do as Jim suggested and flash the update yourself with RSDLite.

Yes mine is ATT branded and yes I have removed all the att bloatware with Root Uninstaller once I rooted it.
I honestly don't care what pigs motorola are, I just asked about getting my phone to ICS because I keep getting the update failed message.
jimbridgman> I got RSD lite already and I clicked on the link you provided for the ICS FXZ so how do I apply this?

Yeah, I have already done a factory reset. Still can't get the OTA update to work. So my only option looks like I need to flash it myself.
One other thing that's completely off subject, One thing I don't like about this forum there are too many restrictions regarding spam...although I understand it needs to be completely filtered and not allowed the admins have too many restrictions on this forum. Why should there be a restriction were a new user has to wait 5 minutes between posts? That makes absolutely no since. (BTW thanks to the admins for the 5 minutes between posts I had to kill, I got to mention this)

As long as it's an ICS FXZ, then yes.

I guess you did some tweaks with it like installing CWM. You remove it and files associated with it, you can take update OTA with no probs (i was through it and finally could take the update like a noob ). An fxz would be a much easier choice.

No, RSD is not showing its connected. This error occurs before I even open RSD lite, I have tried opening RSD and then connecting the phone still windows keeps looking for drivers that it never finds.

Maybe uninstall/reinstall the Moto drivers. Also, which version of RSD lite are you using? I think 6 or greater is recommended.
