Hi guys,
I am currently using ARHD 6.6.2 with custom recovery, radio, etc.. Recently I contacted HTC to ask them about the problem with wifi and mobile network auto turning on, and they ask me to check in safe mode (an option in the bootloader). Since I am not running stock kernel and using a custom recovery, I cannot find that safe mode option any more. Can any one tell me where I can find or get that safe mode option?
Safe mode?? I'm running s-off on hboot 1.18 with a revert back to a stock recovery and see no option for "safe mode" in either the bootloader menu or the recovery menu...
Maybe someone smarter than me will come along, but are you sure they said "safe mode"??

I can't help you with the safe mode as I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist if you have a custom recovery flashed.
But as for the wifi/mobile bug, it's actually quite a common bug at the moment which there doesn't seem to be a solid fix for yet.
If you have a look in the Dev section there is a thread designated to this fix. Hell, I'll even get it for you.
If that fails to work, users have reported back fixes that have worked for them, if you have a look in the Android Revolution HD thread, there has been a lot of them posted there. Just use the search.
Hope this helps.

I also didn't know such thing as safe mode exists, but because I was using the chat support from HTC, there would be no mistake about it. On two separate occasions, two HTC technicians prompted me to go into the bootloader (power + volume down) and select safe mode to see if my wifi problems still existed.

Thanks for your help. The reason I want to contact HTC is because I have searched around many threads and there is no definitive solution for this wifi problem yet. This problem exists on stock ICS ROM for the Sensation, so I guess I can report this problem to HTC so that they can fix it in their later updates (which will benefit normal users who do not even know there is such a forum called XDA).

I'm still curious about this... I wonder if anyone can find the "safe mode" on their device??
SAFE MODE - restart the phone, after it has turned off it will boot, as soon as you see the white screen with the green htc logo, press and hold Volume down until the phone vibrates/buzzes. It will take a while so do not let go of the Volume down button.
If succesful you will have the text "Safe mode" in the lower left corner of your screen.
To exit safe mode, reboot the phone.

3 days back i noticed that no matter how many times i press the power button on my HTC Touch Pro(Vodafone) the back light wont go off.If i keep on pressing it a power off message would appear asking me should i switch off my phone.By changing the power settings i had set it to Turn off the backlight after 30 secs(If not used).Which helped but the problem remains the same, after the backlight goes off it wont come back no matter how many times i press the power button:/.
It would only come back by sliding the Qwerty,as a result the Phone despite of the fact being turned off is using power and my phone dies off after 3 hours or so:S.I tried resetting it by Clearing the Storage(7 times) but it didn't help. After i which i opted to Hard reset it by holding down the Vol & Enter button and then pressing the rest using Stylus, but no matter how many times i try it the stupid Vodafone startup screen would appear and it would not(Tried it when the phone was on).the phone simply wont shut down,i tried by pulling off the batter, but once the battery is in it would start all by itself:/(In this way i cant hard reset the phone while it is off:/:/).How can i hard reset it??Somebody please help me!!!!
P.S:I have unlocked the phone so that i can use it in here.
Sounds really weird... maybe you can try executing task29 and flash a new rom....
but I'm not sure...

Do you mean HardSPL? You could try flashing a stock ROM to the device after putting it in bootloader (hold volume down and press reset, keep holding volume down until you get the tricolour screen).
This thread should really be in the 'General' section...
@Ben
Sorry mate i am a new user of this forum so didn't knew in which section should i place this thread, apologies for that.
From where would i find a stock ROM and how would i flash it(Procedure in detail)? And after flashing this stock ROM would i be able to restore everything using Sprite backup?
Thanks in advance!!
Follow this guide if it's your first time, and as long as you've already backed your data up (which you should have if you were doing a hard reset anyway) then you should be fine with Sprite.

Go to the HTC website and download an original ROM from their support page.
Oh and when flashing back to stock, make sure you flash stock rom/radio first, before you remove HardSPL (see guide one post above)

Unfortunately the ROM available on HTC's(3.27.4.3) website is not supported by my phone(The text field after verifying my S/N number prompted that the ROM is not suitable for my phone). What should i do now?Shall i take the risk and give it a go??My only concern is that i don't want to end up with a locked phone after a ROM flash:/
P.S:Apologies for bad grammar.
My phone is Vodafone HTC Touch Pro GSM(Unlocked)
just give it a go. and flash it. you cant really even brick these phones. so your not losing anything. even flash a rom without the sprite backup built in. you can always get the cab
Download rom from sunnysoft, there's no Serial number check in there.

I doubt it as he can still power off by holding the button down. Sounds like a software problem to me... Is it the same for you with regards to powering off?
hello.. i have looked for the answer to my question but i cant seem to find it, therefore i created this post.. sorry if i posted in the wrong section or if it is already out there.. i hope mr clown doesnt close my thread.
i rooted my phone doing it with the one click tool, and it worked perfectly fine.. the problem started when i tried to install a custom rom on it.. i installed rom manager and cwm fine.. but the problem is that i was following this instructions..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=11557769
which i read i had to get this rom...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868720
the problem is that i didnt realize that i needed eng s off and i had s off wich therefore i wasnt able to see the cwm screen..
following the steps that told me to wipe the data with the wipedat.zip.. i did it through rom manager.. when the phone rebooted it went to a dark screen slowly so i took the battery out, and now is frozen in the htc logo... i have tried the up/down/power combo but the phone vibrates 3-4 times and then it goes to a black screen with the light on... but i dont get anything else.. so im really stock at either htc screen or black screen... i need help!!! i hope some one nows a good way for me to fix this.
have you tried...
adb restart fastboot
or adb restart recovery or whichever it is
someone more familiur with adb can explain alil more on this
Download the stock ruu exe and run that from your computer.
Sent from me using this thing.
Try running adb reboot bootloader but first off run adb kill-server then adb devices to see if it is picking up your phone. If that doesnt work download the stock ruu and run it, hopefully all goes well with either method.
Just FYI - this was taken care of over in the General Forum.
Haven't heard from him since, but he was able to get into hboot.

Hey man i had a problem like that i used ace hack kit v9...Just do everything over again and it will work..
This is in the wrong section. Questions should be posted in the general section.
Its not volume up/down/power. Its just volume down + power. What is sounds like you did was restart your phone while it was trying to flash the rom. You should be able to get to the hboot menu just by holding power and volume down to power up the phone and wait till hboot shows up.
This will be probably the best answer I got.
1. Turn your phone off
2. Take out the battery and insert it back it
3. Don't turn your phone on
4. Plug in your USB cord, connected to your computer
5. Your phone will Automatically Boot up
6. You will be in the ClockWork Recovery
7. There will be many options
8. Select "BACK UP AND RESTORE"
9. Restore EVERYTHING.
10. youre phone will start normally, but it will be really LAGGY
11. Then ROOT your phone again to make it normal.
What has happened to yours has happened to mine. This is the way I fixed mine.

i'm not exactly a noob, but i'm doing the same steps to get my htc evo into recovery mode and it isnt working!
i have gingerbread 2.3.3 and and everything is updated (which sucks by the way). this phone came out of the box thursday the 21st of july (2011) and i updated everything before knowing there was no root for 2.3.3 yet
help is appreciated.
thx!
Yes, it is true that if you are S-ON (ships default this way) with 2.3.3 there is no currently known root method, which means no custom recoveries at this time.
Also, HTC enabled "fastboot" by default in their software. This means your phone never really shutsdown, it just goes to deep sleep like a computer might. Because the phone never powers down all the way, accessing a recovery doesn't work using the standard "Power on + Volume Down" button combo.
There is an option to turn this off from within "Menu -> Settings" on your Evo. I would suggest doing this.
Good luck, and note that there is a specific EVO (called Supersonic) forum with a large wealth of information in the General, Q&A and Development sections.
Hold the Volume down and power button. Then you should go into hboot and then select recovery from there.
And as the other guy said there's a Htc supersonic forum. Here's a link http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=619
And make sure to hit thank's to they other guy that posted he really posted a lot and deserves it.

It'll be stock recovery, but here:
1. Turn off phone/Take out and put in the battery
2. Hold Volume-Down and Power
3. Go down to Recovery. The phone might freeze to look for an RUU for a second.
thank you folks. Product F(RED) was on the money. i play with the fastboot option and notice that with the option not selected the phone just restarts itself. funny thing: after doing that two-three times i noticed my wallpaper was changed.
but thanks for the info i'll head to the supersonic forums.
by the way: nothing happened when i pressed the "thank you" button?
right!

Hello people,
i read some post of safe mode, but no one solved my problem..
my htc sensation is always in safe mode in every ROMS that i installed..
I think i have one partition with error, because my Sensation just after showing the HTC logo with white screen on boot, it loading something that disable or thinks that the button vol, down is pressed, and enter always in SAFE MODE and the button don´t work in ROM.
Someone can help me with this?
Regards
Anyone can help me?
Looks like there is a problem with your SIM card, things to check off the top of my head would be that your SIM isn't damaged, try your SIM in another phone, Try another SIM in your phone, and replace the SIM anyway. report back the results.
I use my SIM in a HTC Trophy..
I think i need to install a vodafone original ROM and then if my phone is over the safe mode, unlock it.. because i can´t do anything in safe mode, that´s why i cant unlock it, maybe...
Regards
Come on people, is there someone that haved the same problem?
I make a progress, i unlock it already, but in witch ROM i install, the phone is stuck in SAFE MODE,
I can´t install app, because in Safe Mode i can´t view it.
If i install one MIUI ROM or one old old ROM, the phone reboot normaly.. is there something to upgrade, because i think it is one especific configuration that is not updated and give a bug in one program that cause the reboot in safe mode...
Someone?
Regards
I personally haven't seen this issue before exactly. Normally when that image comes up (as I can't read what it says) it is an issue with the phone not detecting the SIM, hence why I gave you those trouble shooting tips. Theoretically (to my knowledge) by rooting the phone and installing a custom ROM there should be no carrier restrictions on your SIM and it shouldn't matter if you have a vodafone ROM on it or not.
If anyone is more knowledgeable please feel free to correct me if im wrong.
thank, the problem with SIM is solved, i do everything new again...
But still suck i the "safe mode". ..

One thing happend,
My Sensation when boot normal (Home screen) the vol down key, dont activate nothing is useless, but when i 'm bootloader it works...

Hello prootc1,
I'm unable to get into "safe mode".
I wanted to try that so that I could freely search for a way of getting out of it.
Have you encountered a method for getting into safe mode in your multiple threads.
(I have tried to boot with vol down in the way sts_fin suggested, but that simply gets me into the bootloader.)
Edit: I've managed to put my Sensation in safe mode by trying all button press combinations in bootloader. Pressing VolUp +VolDown while powering up and holding them until you get a second vibration -it happend while I was in my bootanimation- lets the phone continue to boot in safe mode.
So now I can at least experiment with getting out of it .
Question: do you get one or two vibations during boot process? (Or any other number?)
Question: have you verified that there absolutely no dust or dirt under you volumebuttons-wip and the it is able to 'wiggle' freely?
You could also verify this by booting without the cover/backpanel. Please try it.
How do you get into safe mode in the first place?
Just curious because the only time I've gotten into safe mode was because my phone was wet

I've verified the usage of all keys in safe mode and in my case there is no difference.
I suspect it's worth looking at this as a hardware problem with your volume key, just in case.

Hello to all,
Have an issue that i have trawled the forum for but have not found any solution, not any that work anyway.
I have a rooted Cooper, currently running CM 10.1, 4.2.2 and the problem i have is that every time i re-boot
or indeed boot from off, it loads into safe mode (shows in bottom LH corner) i've tried the button pressing and
the battery removal, cleared all, reset til the cows come home and yet safe mode is still active.
Has anyone encountered the same problem and has found a permanent solution????
Appreciate any input.....
Thanks
*Update*
I have just flashed the SGS III/IV JB V12-BETA and now instead of safe mode i have cocaine found ;0) same problem different rom.
*Update 2*
The above Rom has a feature in the power off screen= Reboot then hot reboot, phone reboots into normal running.
Not really a fix but a easy way to get out of safe mode...Still would like to find a permanent solution.
I'm having the same issue. Hopefully any input can help?
