[ROOT][T769] Rooted kernel for Blaze 4G :: 4/9/12 - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

k0nane presents...
Rooted Kernel for Blaze 4G
Sponsored by k0nane.info. Have you tipped your devs today?
DO NOT CHECK REPARTITION! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Why the big red warning? Far too many people have broken their devices by not following these instructions! Search the forums, or drop by IRC - you'll see plenty of examples.
So, you wanted root? You got root! Samsung devices come with an unlocked bootloader. Thanks to pointers from other members that the T-Mo SGS2 CWM boots (badly), we were able to get some dumps, and prep this easily little package for you. This kernel includes a fully-linked copy of BusyBox 1.19.3, init.d (busybox run-parts) support, and various other niceties. Devs, see here for what the script essentially looks like.
Instructions
Download Odin 1.85 - see section below.
Download the rooted kernel TAR - see section below.
Extract the contents of odin-185.zip.
Run Odin 1.85.exe, and prepare Odin:
Check "auto-reboot", and uncheck all other options.
Click PDA and select the TAR you downloaded. Click PIT and select the PIT your downloaded.
Put your device into Download Mode:
Connect the USB cable to your PC, but NOT your device.
Remove the battery.
Reinsert the battery.
Hold down Volume Up + Volume Down + Power.
You should now be at Download Mode.
Click Start in Odin.
That's it! Your device will autoreboot, and your phone should be working properly again.

keep it tight guys

First of all, thank you for your hard work and time!
I'm just wondering if anything needs to be clicked on when the phone is set on Download Mode?
I have everything setup in Odin but I only get a msg saying:
"<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)"
No activity on the phone. The instructions are clear and I did read them 5 times over , just wondering if anything else needs to be done in Odin.
Thanks again!

Whoo Hoo! So jazzed! I was getting impatient with the dev support for the t769 and was going to return it and hold out for the HTC One S.
Now, with Root and CWM, I might just keep this thing. I have a feeling that XDA will make a section for us and ROM dev will be around the corner!

Just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly. The process described above will give root access while keeping the stock ROM that came with the phone, right? Upgrading to ICS through the installation of new ROMs is a separate process? Thanks for all the work on this!

Just FYI, when you click to upload the PIT, "Re-Partition" will auto select itself again. scared the crap out of me.

Correct, rooted with stock kernel/rom. I got rid of 95% of the bloatware and already notice a difference in snappiness.
Rom support will be soon.

What recovery is this going to use?
Lets you choose
After I just finished a few hours ago reading every post in the other thread and following all those steps!
Way to go, jiqqaman! This will help out quite a few folks on here.
Awesome. I rooted my phone earlier (at least I think I did) and I can't get any rom to install. I think it has to do with the amon-ra recovery so I'm glad this will let me choose.
Does it matter that my evo may already be rooted?
Damn your quick.
Wow Amazing if this works I like very much. Great work put up a more prominent donation button
Such a tease!
so this will root a phone that did the 6/29 OTA? just by following these steps?
Where do I get this util?

Jiggaman, you are DA MAN! BTW, check your PM. =)
also jigga, i noticed the first step is a factory reset. is there any way to back up any of my apps and/or data before doing this considering i dont have root privileges at the moment.
Will this do full NAND unlock?
Sorry if that is a noob question.

i know these are noob questions but people are reporting great battery life on the new update and i wanted to update but dont wanna lose my tether..

I dunno anything bout unrevoked , but this doesnt give you the latest radio/wimax that the 1.47.651.1 OTA has. Theres a guide that shows you how to add the latest radio/wimax somewhere on the forum.
I'm using this as my very first post here.
On my old evo I used simple root and it was amazing! I had to return the old evo and get a new one, and as luck would have it it came with the new update.
I can't wait for this new simple root to be uploaded, I keep checking this thread every 5 minutes.
Anyway, one this program is up, running and working I assure you I will be clicking the donate button.
Thank you for the work and effort you are putting into this.

well unrevoked basically let you do anything root would except remove bloatware and flash roms
cuz what i was planning to do was install the update directly from my phone and then root with this method .. if i do that will my phone have the latest radio wimax added on to it already?

Edit: it seems unroot didnt work, though like mentioned above you would only want to unroot incase of hardware issue or you want t replace the phone wit T-Mo, but thats all good now cause i posted a working Odin image earlier.
So cwm doesn't work for the sidekick 4g

First off thank you for the easy root But now I have an issue, the SD card wont work, looks like it wont find the extension anyone know how to fix this? Ive used many different card and none read but I know all work. Without this I cant do a ROM
Try reformatting the card? Did they work before you rooted? do they work again if you unroot?
They worked before the root, I didn't unroot yet. When you out then in the phone and go to the SD card setting it shows nothing. Just says unavailable. So I can't even format it on the phone. I've formatted them in many ways on the pc too
HTC EVO = my best friend
did you try pulling out the sdcard and putting it back in? does it show a blank sdcard, or no sdcard at all?
need a mirror, site is down
I cannot get # in adb. Only $. Can anyone tell me why? I rooted with this method and have smooth maximus v2.0 and bali kernel v2.0. Any ideas?

Yes...i will try that tonight after work and post here.:good:
That doesn't work either....It starts to boot and freezes. The tablet is VERY hot. I cannot recommend this ROM to anybody. I have wasted more time trying to make this work than it's worth. I appreciate your effort and time, but this rom is completely unusable on our tablet (P5113 model).

FYI, I have installed this on our two here at home, been running flawlessly since the 7th. We also have the P5113.
It is no problem, I won't add any more time, effort into the tablet section. I'll stay compiling my I9000, I9100, I9300 ROMs.

I do not understand a single thing that you're so worried for the championship? You've put it out to the public without protection. Apk could do with this command and would have earned by selling for a nominal fee, but now everyone knows it already ...

APK would protect nothing, even a child can decompile it.

I agree with you, but if I wanted to make money from it I would not have released the solution public and open, but I do feel credits should be given.
So, would you like to know the answer to the question I asked you, what 0x12345676 in location 0x1002080C does?

location 0x1002080C is s5p_restart_handler INFORM3 aka reboot_mode
reboot fota_bl sets MAGIC 0x12345676
when mach_board_main is executed in sboot and location 0x1002080C has 0x12345676 then it will execute pit_update_bootloader_ota, all pretty simple really.
There is also another special mode of reboot sud which sets s5p_restart_handler to 0xABCF0000 but to discuss its function would be off topic here.

OK, what happens if, at the command reboot fota_bl, the partition BOOTA1 will be filled with zeros or different words empty?

I will prolly work on one this weekend so if you want to play with this make your nandroid and give this a flash.
Hey bro,
Good work getting yours fully functional. How did you go about yours? I used dsi-xda kitchen, I know it's old so that could be why I had issues. Just want to find out where I went wrong haha, I'm all for learning
Thanks for the upload!

No, I actually only use DSI-XDA kitchen myself.
I did what I always do, grab the stock image from Google, break it down, add my own root and busybox (not the ones in the kitchen, they are older).
Then I use my updater-script that I hand built from prior releases along with matching binaries.
Pretty much that is it. I am going to look at yours in a minute and I will PM you what I find.
EDIT: Sorry, I didint mean to cut you off on your thread either.
Downloading now, thank you ?

Thanks @scrosler. Going to wait for your Clean Rom.
I just tried to flash it (deodex) in TWRP, and it failed. It says:
symlink: some symlinks failed.
E:Error executing updater binary in zip
EDIT: I redownloaded the file, and it worked on the 2nd try. Must have been a bad download.

Don't worry man haha, yours works better let's be honest so we might as well get people using it.
Interesting I did pretty much the exact same, added the updated superuser since there is a really old one in the kitchen like you said. I think my updater script was okay. I guess I had some weird binaries or something, I just grabbed them from a 4.4.2 rom, not entirely sure what there purpose is. Or how to view/edit them.
I'll probably have another blast at it tomorrow just for the fun of it, I want to try get it working so I know for the future
EDIT: though I had issue with root not working out the box, maybe I missed replacing something. What files did you replace?
If you want to look at mine it's here: http://d-h.st/rMs
Sorry for being curious

This is an error with TWRP. Just reboot into bootloader then back into recovery and you will be fine.
New boot loader included?
