[MODEM] modem-c5a based off UCLC5 modem from NOTE - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

CREATE A NANDROID BACKUP before you test my modem, this is my first modem. I created this cause I had a theory I wanted to try. And because the UCLAC4 modem blows.
***CWR flash at your own RISK***
I get more lte bars at home, but havnt tested away from home, i always get poor LTE signal at the house anyways. Ive tested this with my phone and another superlite-5.0 user.
Let me know if this helps anyone

Naw, UCLAC4 or 5, it will flash over it. If you need go back, just load your nandroid backup

So far, so good with me. I flashed it and seem to be getting better reception from where I sit. This is sort of what I went through with Gingerbread. Initially the speeds with GB were kind of crappy. Then the UCLA3 modem came out and all of a sudden my signal was way better. With the modem you provided it seems to have increased my signal. Still, some have mentioned that perhaps the algorithm that calculates signal (and by that I mean in terms of bars) has been altered. Still, I have done my share of testing with the UCALC5 modem (outside of this flash) and the speeds seemed similar even though the bars on my phone seemed to increase. I guess time will tell. All the same, great work, as usual. You really don't stop, MHX. You're a MACHINE!

2x improvement on download speed.

Thanks, gonna give it a wirl.
Works, seems to have the same reception as the note radio so I'm happy. I don't care about speed I have no lte here and the speeds are garbage to begin with.
What exactly do these extra libs help accomplish?
I have been having mms issues with ics aosp messaging. Hoping this might kick its butt in gear.

Mine seems to the the same. It's as if, no matter the modem I flash, the speeds are still the same

Had 46 Mbps down and 18 Mbps up on UCLAC4 on Rogers in Vancouver. Flashed this and got 23 Mbps down and 25 Mbps up. Reception unchanged at home. Tried to go back to UCLAC4 with my Nandroid backup and it borked. "MD5 checksum mismatch?!" Ah well.

yeah its apparently encryption setup in ics. enjoy reinstalling ur rom over again. =) and mhx you might as well take it off its causing mismatches..

Yup. Tried re-flashing this radio and it's all still borked. Non-stop FCs before I could even get to the launcher and 20-second waits in between every one. Ugh.
Starting afresh. YMMV but this destroyed the perfect setup I had on Superlite 5.0.

Am I the only one that can switch radios every 5 minutes if I wanted without issue? I see a lot of people having fc problems after a radio flash. Never had an issue hopping around radios.

No problems here either. Just all completely useless. The Amaze 4g was terrible though. Not even 1mb up after the first 3 or 4 tests

I have the old radio from Superlite 4.2, but that's not helping. Darkside Superwipe'd, re-flashed Superlite 5.0, won't finish booting. This ain't good, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.
Really needs to be taken down. Be careful, Rogers users!

I don't think the problem comes in flashing this radio, its restoring back to an older radio. though IDK if anyone has tried just flashing normal uclc5 or ucalc4 over this before restoring a backup.

I never saw the need to restore a nandroid after flashing a radio, I just flash another one. Never had an issue. I just went from the note radio, to this one, to our ics radio, back to this one. Not a single issue.
Either a, skip restoring, or b, Rodgers phones are picky as hell.

Radio question

Flashed Flipz radio for Fresh 2.0 and had a few question that I have asked numerous times in numerous threads and they were not adressed...
1. Will my phone brick if I restore a backup to a 1.5 ROM with the updated radio?
2. Does the radio for Fresh 2.0 work for all 2.1 ROMS?
Thanks a lot guys. I just want to be 100% rather than having skipping stone.

This radio will work on all roms.... 1.5-2.1 and will not brick if you nandroid back to a 1.5 rom. However, there have been numerous reports of bricking when trying to go back to the previous stock radio. Just keep this in mind.

Besides the 1.5.6 RUU, there is no other way to go back correct?
There is a stock radio.zip posted on the forum (instead of using RUU) but it is also iffy. It still has a 50/50 chance of a bricking.

I had a good signal before (cant really tell a difference), but my battery life is greatly improved.
i was also good on the previous radio but just figured it was something they add in the official update so i did it anyway and i used to NEVER get 3g at my desk at work and it would kill my battery going in and out of service for 8 hours straight let alone me playin with my phone but since the new radio its sits at 3g the whole day and i have way more battery when im off work..
I have had nothing but problems with the new radio. I pushed a new PRL to it and still couldn't get a decent signal. I used to get 3 out of 5 bars -70db on the old radio, and now I cant get more than -90db. My Pre still gets almost perfect signal in my house and my Hero is now unusable. I applaud everyone's efforts in making the most of our Heros, but I sure hope a new radio comes out soon!
which of the 2 new radios should we use?
I really cant get a solid answer.

I'm out in North Dallas.. Sprint's coverage is pretty good out here.. so I knew right away that something was up with that new radio. I'll probably switch back to my Pre for the next few weeks until the next official radio comes out.

For anyone who wants to flash just the EP3HA Modems only. All radios are independent of rom version.

Have you guys tried the GPS/Google Maps since updating the modem?

It seems the link here was pulled from a thread I posted on a forum elsewhere - I was doing some file reorganization and in doing so it made the link in the OP no good - my bad.
I've been using this since last night, and honestly this is the best modem I've used. I'm not getting more bars, but it holds on to the actual data signal itself loads better, plus I notice that I'm getting a data connection when I have very little signal. LTE seems to be a bit snappier as well, but maybe thats just a placebo effect.
The biggest difference I've noticed however, is battery life. When using Spotify, browsing the web, and other apps that use data, the battery doesnt drain as fast. I think overall having the data connection enabled doesnt drain as fast as previous modems.
It'd be interesting to know if anyone else has had similar improvements.

so far so good on this new radio..no call issues yet that I can attribute to the modems
Flashed the modem/radio last night. Didn't really notice a significant improvement over EP1W. I have yet to make any voice calls with it. I'll drive around today and see if it picks up a stronger 4G signal anywhere. I normally have 3 bars of 4G at my house.
Been using the new modems for the last two days and I can honestly say these are the best we've seen so far...consistent 4g, increased data speeds, and as of now no crazy static during calls as we've seen on the other gingerbread builds. I'm loving it!

Go with the second ICS leak UCLD2 which has a much improved radio.
I am not getting great speeds on the UCLD2 but seems to be getting better as it settles over a few days.
It has been slowing my Wi-Fi as well but shouldn't as the kernal is what handles it. Im scratching my head about it as well but I am investigating it!
I have been stuck on oil rig in BFE and only have edge service, but the reception seems to be better for the phone side of it since flashing UCL2.
I don't know if it has anything to do with ULC2 or not but my GPS signal seems to take a lot longer to lock on?
Some radios work better in certain areas than others. When I had the Captivate there were so many radios available (with varying results based on location) that someone started a map for people to report the best working radios in their area: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227717
I'm finding UCLD2 isn't working so hot for me where I live (harder to get a good signal than UCLC4) but I'm willing to deal with it until a new one comes out.
Whatever you do, stay away from the Note modem that people have been flashing and borking their phones with...

Thank you to the developers of MR3

I wanted to thank the developers of MR3 in this thread. Liquid, Jester, etc.
I'm a long time lurker of this forum since I got my Thunderbolt. I'm VERY VERY appreciative of the developers for creating a very functional ICS rom for the Thunderbolt. Shame on HTC and Verizon for sandbagging so long with what should be a very simple upgrade for them. I was running Thundershed for awhile but grew tired of the Gingerbread look and feel of Android. My friends all mostly have newer phones with ICS, and I couldn't believe that it was supposed to be out in August and it's now mid-October and it's still not out.
To my surprise, I log on to here and see that an ICS ROM had been released.
My only issues with this ROM are random restarts and the white screen error in Facebook/Gmail/etc. I don't really use the video camera much in general; could you use an aftermarket app, or is it broken period?
Otherwise, I absolutely LOVE this and will never go back to Verizon's bloated software. Even when an OTA is released with ICS I won't go back. My phone is running much faster and much better than with Sense and Gingerbread. With data off I had a 10% decrease in battery in 7 hours; with data on and normal use I'll get maybe 5 hours out of a charge on this ROM. About normal for this phone and it's absolutely terrible battery life with the stock battery.
I have it overclocked to 1.5ghz running interactiveX as my governor. It runs beautifully, other than those two minor issues I pointed out above. I haven't experienced any data drops or anything out of the sort like that.

I second this thread.
A major thanks goes out to all of you who develop, in any way, for the Thunderbolt community. This even includes testers.
To answer your questions...
The video and front camera are broken even with an aftermarket app and will remain broken, most likely, until Verizon releases the OTA. From the OTA, our awesome developers will then be able to fix camera issues and many other issues that will make their ROM's 100% stable.
Also, if you get random reboots, you may want to flash to a different radio.
If you are currently running the OTA radios from the 2.11.605.19 software and still get these reboots, try flashing the combo radio and hopefully the reboots will vanish or, at least, happen less often.
If you go to your settings, about phone, software information, more, and look at the baseband version...
If the numbers you see are:
1.49.00.0406w_1, 0.01.79.0331w_1
Then you are on the OTA 2.11.605.19 radios, which is my recommendation for the radios to use with this ROM. If these are the radio numbers you see, try the combo radio. If the numbers you see under your phones baseband version is not:
1.49.00.0406w_1, 0.01.79.0331w_1
Then it may be:
1.48.00.0930w_3, 0.01.78.0916w_3
If it is:
1.48.00.0930w_3, 0.01.78.0916w_3
Try flashing the 2.11.605.19 OTA radios found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605557
If you have the 2.11.605.19 radios, though, try flashing the combo radio found here:

Definitely want to ditto this thread. Thanks for continuing to support the Thunderbolt. I was on the verge of retiring the Thunderbolt. ICS has brought new the Tbolt new life though!
thanks for the links. I'm going to try upgrading tonight and see if that helps. I notice you flash the radio in hboot. If I do a nandroid backup, does it also backup the radio (so I can restore it)? Or if I **** up, will it be permanently bricked?
Ditto to all that has been said. Thank You to all who made this happen, including HTC and Verizon. Their inaction drove me to decide to root and find alternatives. I've been incredibly pleased with MR3.
Thanks all!

If you backup that ROM after flashing the radio, it will back up the ROM. Hboot is a whole different thing than the recovery. That radio is downloaded to the phone and will automatically run on any ROM after its downloaded, even if you start from scratch. But flashing any of those two radios will not brick you on any ROM. Worst case being you won't have signal or data until you flash different radios again.
Say if you upgraded to the newer radios, and then you flash a ROM based on an older software version, you won't brick. In fact, you may not ever experience any issues. Maybe just signal changes or random signal drops.
But no, it won't brick you. It's almost impossible to brick a Thunderbolt.
I recommend after flashing the new radios, immediately go and either change the name from PG05IMG to something custom, move into a different folder that's off of the root of the SD card, or just delete it once flashed.
This is for in a such case where you need to get back into recovery from hboot, it won't prompt you to install the radio again. Because if you had to get into recovery from hboot, it wouldn't allow you to since it runs a check for the PG05IMG files first... and with that being said... I was always told to never flash the same radio twice without changing to a new one first.

i dont' see why these ROMs get so much acclaim... when i tried LiquidSmooth it wouldn't stay connected to the Internet. tried to toggle wifi and 3G/4G. nothing works and i have to reboot the phone every time i want to use the Internet.
Liquid MR3: the setup crashed and now the ROM won't even come all the way up...
unless my phone's broken or something (going to Verizon tomorrow to reflash and check it), i say they're both absolute garbage. i've had much better luck with ROMs on other phones.

the first time i flashed it, i cleared /data after the flash before i brought the OS up, but you've included the launcher as a user app and not a system app. was this intentional? a user could easily screw up by uninstalling the launcher and have no way to interact with the OS. shouldn't there be a default launcher embedded in the system programs?
i'm an Android dev, but my understanding of system development is limited, but if i'm not mistaken, any Android ROM should come with a default launcher that is not uninstallable and has no icon as a backup launcher just in case.
He did install it that way so if the user wants to install their own launcher and remove the default. Its simple to make the new one a system app. All that has to be done is move the apk to /system and it is uninstallable.

[Q] JB Leak Radio Question.

So I see there is a JB leak out for us, I also checked the radio post over at RootzWiki, now, my question is, with that installed and any JB rom does that mean there will be no more data drops?
Time will tell. Flash and report back. I've been running since it's drop and have not noticed anything significant yet.
I've been running it since it dropped as well and haven't noticed any issues. But i'll let you know more tomorrow after i take it for a full days spin.

Second this. Been running it and haven't noticed any data problems so far. True test will be at work tomorrow where my data usually gives out on the JB roms so we will see.

I'll flash the new liquid smooth tonight and text it out as well, thanks guys! I'll report back once I have had a full day of use
I flashed the stock jb rom leak deodexed last night and had the HRE radio... then decided to flash the leaked radio. I like it. In Denver. Good 4g and as you can see the speed tests were better. 3 newest speed tests were with new radio. 3 tests under that were the HRE radio. Within minutes. Same spot. Getting great battery life. So far two thumbs up from this guy.

Just an update, my data stayed strong all day today even at work and the gym where i usually get data drops but it held its own today
Seems about the same for me in my area... I am in town with a good signal.. Did notice a little better upload speed... Can't say for sure it is just the radio and nothing else but will keep updating.
Getting LS RC7 downloaded now, will report back when I have information on the data!
