[MODEM][ODIN] EP3HA Modems - Verizon Droid Charge

For anyone who wants to flash just the EP3HA Modems only. All radios are independent of rom version.
I take no credit for this as it was simply pulled from the most recent leak. Flash at your own risk! If you need to be explained how to do it you most likely shouldn't!

I updated the original post and download link with the new file.

Just flashed via Odin, everything works great. I finally have 4g where I only got 3g before.

Just flashed, haven't noticed much of a difference yet but I also don't have 4G in my area.

GPS?
When I flashed *just* the kernel with ep1w rom & modem I lost the ability to get a lock with GPS. even after rebooting a few times.
Have you guys tried the GPS/Google Maps since updating the modem?

Seems to work ok for me. Inside my house and get 20 meters accuracy after about 15 to 30 secs.

Download link seems broken.

Seems like download speeds are faster and link is down

It seems the link here was pulled from a thread I posted on a forum elsewhere - I was doing some file reorganization and in doing so it made the link in the OP no good - my bad.

I've been using this since last night, and honestly this is the best modem I've used. I'm not getting more bars, but it holds on to the actual data signal itself loads better, plus I notice that I'm getting a data connection when I have very little signal. LTE seems to be a bit snappier as well, but maybe thats just a placebo effect.
The biggest difference I've noticed however, is battery life. When using Spotify, browsing the web, and other apps that use data, the battery doesnt drain as fast. I think overall having the data connection enabled doesnt drain as fast as previous modems.
It'd be interesting to know if anyone else has had similar improvements.

With data on: Try loading maps, then press menu, then select sign in. This gave me a pop up and it worked for me. Accurate to <10 meters.
Hope this helps.

Ok, so I have Humble 4.0 which I believe comes with EP1W modem, which I believe contributes to the buzzing noise during phone calls.
Does this modem flash fix the buzzing problem?

so far so good on this new radio..no call issues yet that I can attribute to the modems

Flashed the modem/radio last night. Didn't really notice a significant improvement over EP1W. I have yet to make any voice calls with it. I'll drive around today and see if it picks up a stronger 4G signal anywhere. I normally have 3 bars of 4G at my house.

Been using the new modems for the last two days and I can honestly say these are the best we've seen so far...consistent 4g, increased data speeds, and as of now no crazy static during calls as we've seen on the other gingerbread builds. I'm loving it!

Cos some hardware gets better performance on certain radios. And many, if not all, love to experiment with different modems to see what suits them best. I love one with more battery compared to one with more speed.

They're both AT&T modems, the Infuse has never been sold by any other carrier. (That is going to change Tuesday...)
As to them both being the same size, that's common for partition/PROM/firmware raw images. They ARE different - different md5sums.
so what is the difference between the two?

Has anyone checked if there are differences beyond version strings? Then again, I don't see why you'd bother to recompile a modem to release a new firmware unless the modem had changes as well..
Just wanted to say that I've been waiting for new modems to try as the UCKE3 I was using was pretty poor in 3G performance. Where my old Captivate was getting solid 3G signals most of the time, for some reason I wasn't getting the same with the KE3 modem on my Infuse in the same locations and I was somewhat often getting only edge or no signal at all.
Having tried UCKD5 for a little bit, it seems like download speed is better and signal is much more solid so far. Need to do more testing, but I like it alot so far.

Pretty much not possible without major decompiler/disassembler experience.
The radios might even be encrypted.

Flashed UCKD5 modem
The building I work in is notorious for killing the signal. I flashed the UCKD5 modem yesterday and so far it seems that I have better signal than with UCKE3. Will run this modem for a few days more then will try the other. I sometimes wonder what I'd accomplish if I weren't a phone junkie

CM Q&A

As some of you have come from the captivate know what I did there with Rom Q&A threads. I am doing the same here. In an effort to clean up the site. All Rom related question shall from now on be posted in the proper Q&A or will be deleted on sight.
I feel like I'm posting incorrectly here but this thread says CM Q&A so if i am I sincerely apologize but here goes nothing...
I'm running Cyanogenmod 7 RC1. Before i installed CM7 i did a wipe of data and cache.
The google navigation app works for about 2 or 3 minutes then loses gps signal. I have to exit navigation then bring it up again and it will immediately get a gps fix then disconnect after another 2-3 minutes. I have really searched around for a fix and i'm not even sure which one to try.
Below are the threads that i have found that may fix the issue. I don't believe they will since the problem isn't getting a fix which it does. It it just losing the fix after a brief period of time.
If i use MapQuest it works flawlessly. It just really bothers me that i can't get a stock app to work...
Which one is the most viable? If non of the threads below will help can you politely point me in the right direction?

This is how it works for me as well. Just toggle GPS off and back on while still in the navigation app. Should come back up and stay on from that point on.
Thanks for your responses guys...I wish there was another way rather than that. I guess it's a small inconvenience for what is my favorite rom.

There is a way to quick search the phonebook with the stock CM7 dialer, but there's an extra keystroke involved. While the dialer is up on the screen, just press the search button on the bottom right of your phone. Then you can quick search through your contacts.

I had a issue with mytracks and GPS. It seemed to cut out frequently and when the trip was done it logged me as going almost twice as far due to zig zagging in my track.
Very low data speeds in CM7, what gives?
I'm new to android and to rooting. I understand that CM7 does not support 4G, but I'm not even seeing 3G speeds when I have it installed. My speed test results are averaging in the 0.4 - 0.5 mbps range down, and similar or some times better up.
On ANY other rom I see better speeds. I'd be ok with similar speeds to what I saw on my Iphone 3g, but when I tether right now on CM7 it makes me long for the good ole days of dial up. Seriously, I frequently see sub 56kbps speeds.
I WANT to use CM7. I love all the tweaks and features, but the data is so slow! Any suggestions to how I could fix this and get back to my 1.5 mbps 3G speeds?
Radio: 26.06.06.30
RIL: HTC-RIL 2.2.0018G
Kernel (What ever came with the phone? Ive not changed kernels that I'm aware of)
Thanks,
Tom

Did you make sure the APN's are correct? There is a APN thread in the dev forum.. If you are in 4g area you should see faster speeds than 1.5Mb.. Iam in dallas and see 3.5Mb down 1.1Mb up.. Either way, make sure the APN settings are correct.
By chance has anyone's phone gotten laggy at random or where it'll temporarily hang/freeze in the later builds?
I'm trying to figure out what's goin on w/mine.

Something this severe hasn't happened to me yet. I might see a little sluggishness from time to time, but it doesn't cause the phone to hang or freeze.

+1 on one7dchevy's suggestion. CM7 works with HSPA+ / 4G just as well as any other ROM (I've seen speeds up to 6-7Mb/s), as long as you've got the right APN config. Link to the APN thread is in my sig - be careful though, the OP of that thread is a real jerk.
BTW the radio version you're using is just fine - and the RIL that comes with CM7 works fine with that radio.
Posted this question over in the CM forums but they seem to get alot less traffic than here. Figured I'd give it a shot.
Flashed this device a while back. Now it's randomly losing GSM signal, wifi is fine. When I attempt to scan for a network provider it just errors out.
It's a AT&T device, Inspire 4g
It's running: 7.0.3-DesireHD
baseband: 12.39.60.19P_26.06.04.06_M
RIL: HTC-RIL 2.2.0099HM (Jan 27 2011, 16:12:49)
Having to swap to and from airplane mode every few hours to maintain signal is getting old. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as this is my daily handset and I'm missing way to many calls. I've confirmed with my gf's captivate that it's not random network outages.
I even rolled back to an old nandroid backup where this didn't happen and it continues to happen.

EE4 wasn't a great modem either. Darn VIA radio.
But the GB builds have an issue with noises in phone calls that is still there in EP4P, if VZW is also seeing that in testing that could hold it up. And if they plan an ICS release for the phone Samsung might not try too hard to fix it - they obviously haven't been able to do so yet.

+1 The noise happens to me on any 2.3 rom, hopefully it's one of the issues they're trying to resolve before releasing gingerbread, though I hate to be part if the reason it's being held up

i think that something is wrong with my phone. It does not like any custom roms. It freezes and acts up often. Once i put the stock froyo or gbread it flies and works perfectly fine..... And gbread 2.3.5 and 2.3.6 were solid with no issues so far.
I think its the modem. I had my first static incall today after running the 2.3.6 leak for a week.
Never had that issue on froyo roms.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
There are some problems with this build as well. It seems to mostly be with the radio, echoing what people have said here. I've had a couple times where I could no longer send/receive SMS and had to reboot (where it immediately started working again).
There's some other weird things going on with the I/O. I use PowerAmp for music and I'm getting strange skips and pauses that I never had before. Could just be my configuration, but I'm still running pretty lean.
The latest rumor is that the OTA is happening on the 29th. That and $3.49 will get you a McRib.
GB is alright. They need to fix the freeze issue that has been on quite a few GB leaks. It doesn't happen that much on EP4P but it's still there. The modems on EP3 were great in the sense that the signal was SO much better, it obtained/held 4g with such ease. Then I upgraded to the EP4 modems and i lose my 4g signal like i did on EE4 but my 3g is actually usable now. Before the 3g speeds were so TERRIBLY slow i could never dream of browsing the web on it. These speeds are reasonable and i think these modems are the best so far. They need to combine EP3 and EP4 modems to make a solid, stable 4g connection but a very fast 3g connection when it does drop down. Ontop of all that they still need to fix the ****ty voice issue on all GB versions. EE4 was great with this but the GB modems make the voice quality sound like crap.
So, all in all, even though GB is clearly no where near ready to be launched i still just want them to push it anyway because that means GB source code which means CM7 which means CM9(if we get a dev on it)
I feel as the OP feels. As far as a bad radio, I guess I'm just lucky. I haven't had issues with data loss, crackling noise, Bluetooth problems, or anything else. This phone has been darn near perfect since I got it. The only real complaint I have (which really isn't a complaint) is battery consumption. I wish it was a tad better but I manage just fine. Oh, I do wish there was more memory too. I haven't been able to play a couple games because of low memory. Battery and memory are my only real issues at this point. Still, I'm overall very happy with the Charge and would have no problem staying with it if I didn't have an upgrade available.

I sure hope they don't screw up the O/S portion or give up completely because they radio is crap.

Where did you hear that bro?
This release is solid
I was sick of waiting so I flashed this ROM to my phone and I have had the same results as the op. The phone is so responsive and snappy. It is like a new phone. I used to experience numerous data drops before and now, maybe a few in the last ten days. I have not had any of the static/call issues others have had. GPS is still slow to lock. Download GPS fix from the market and run it before you use the GPS...it helps IMO.
My battery life has improved since porting this release. I am a moderate user (phone calls, text, facebook, twitter, occasional GPS) and I get an entire day from my phone (7:00 am - 11:30 pm). I am sure streaming movies and gaming would cut it down significantly but the casual user will notice a big improvement in battery life.
Again, this is just my personal experience.
I agree that the latest version is awesome.
I guess I am really lucky as I have never had the slightest problem with data, phone call quality or anything else. My phone setup the way it is runs faster & smoother than my bosses Bionic.
The ONLY thing I would change if I could would be the poor battery life, but that's a fact of life with these huge screens etc.

[Q] July Baseband/ Custom Rom/ Instant GPS

Hello All
I Recently updated my baseband after much frustration with GPS and pleased to say i now have GPS instant locks. real instant locks 1-2 Second. Now, I am really wanting to flash a custom rom w/out losing my current GPS state. Can anyone confirm that has done the same thing (updated baseband and achieved instant locks) That after you flashed a custom rom you still have instant GPS locks? and which Custom rom you flashed? Thank you in advance EVERYONE.
You can flash a stock 2.3.3 based ROM, and GPS will work perfectly.

I'm running Gigglebread, which can be found on RootzWiki.
I've never experienced an issue with it, and GPS locks are pretty good. I average 14-16 hours of battery life @ 1.2GHz OC with -100 mV underclock with Faux123 CM Kernel.
For a stock based ROM, I would recommend Tsugi's 2.3.4 ROM.
Thanks for your reply. I ran tsugi previous to updating my baseband and yes tsugi was great. Does it not matter that it is stock 2.3.4? And not 2.3.3 based. Gps wise?

Nope, it's all based of stock ROMs.
12/26 update- I ended up reflashing weapon 3.0 (rom i had previous to Tsugi) I ran that the longest of any rom, i really liked the functionality of it: fast, quick panel toggles etc were super useful. only problem was GPS. After update/re-root/re-flash of weapon. I am excited to say still have instant GPS locks!! YAY. Thanks FatalityBoyZahy for helping me decide whether i should do it or not

I'm so glad I found this, cuz I'm xtremely satisfied with weapon 3.0 and dont wanna go back to stock,,,,
So just to recap a bit, you went back to stock, updated baseband, reflashed weapon and all is good? when you reflashed did your wipe cache & dalvik and format sys?
And also, are you having any problems with usb not mounting extrl sd to computer?

Yes. I was running tsugi, then updated baseband, reflashed CWM using NV flash, Rooted using JBoxer posted root.zip, then reflashed weapon, before flashing I followed whitehawks directions in OP: I wiped/ data factory, wiped system. Then flashed the rom, Everything runs perfect as it did before only now I get instant gps locks, data, wifi, mounting ext and int sd works perfect as it always did. Hope that helps
Now an even more stupid question. I have service through Cincinnati Bell... if I want to update my baseband, do I need to find a special file? Or will the July basebanf thread work? Is that baseband file specific to T-Mobile ?
If I need a specific baseband for Cincinnati Bell, would anybody know where.to go for that information? It seems that the.Cincinnati Bell G2x users are an ultra small group .. so threads are limited.
Thanks in advance.

I updated my baseband and now every ROM I've run has almost instant GPS locks. Granted, stock and 2.3.3 based roms like weapon and Tsugi or even Baka get quicker fixes, but to me, you can't give up the added functionality of CM roms like eagles or Phoenix blood. Flashing any other rom shouldn't alter your baseband at all. The new baseband in conjunction with apps like GPS fix and faster fix should add up to almost instant locks on any ROM.

Thanks. Ive actually ran those mentioned roms and gps fixes (when I was on old baseband) for me personally they had too many bugs in the features I used most. Great roms nonetheless, just lacked in areas I needed. Weapon s works perfect for me. I understand roms do not change baseband, I was just curious as to if it affected the gps functionalityThanks again for your suggestion s
Well I suppose that is why we have a recovery Nvflash.. I'm gonna give it a shot and see what happens.
I'll let you know and then we'll have the answer to whether basebands are carrier specific.
I would sure love to have GPS locks... on average it takes me over 10 minutes to get a lock. GPS status shows that I see and am using 5 or 6 satellites .. but when I open maps... it just takes forever to get a lock.
Lets see what happens ........

Stock and CM7 based roms mount the internal and SD card differently. You will experience problems if you install applications to your SD card on one type of rom and move to another. Changing the mount point manually (editing vold.fstab) will fix some of the problems (ie. your programs will launch properly) but will disable USB mass storage as the rom will try to mount the wrong (virtual/)directory to the USB path.
This is just from my own experience going between EaglesBlood(CM7) and Weapon(Stock). I'm not an expert at this but I tried five or six different changed to the vold.fstab and couldn't get everything just right after switching from EB to WG2x.
Anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a way to make the current structure of your internal/external storage work with a new structure, and have USB mass storage functionality. I just haven't found it.

Very brave! I would have done it in your position too. Instant Gps locks was a must for me. Looking forward to the update. I'll be praying for a good turn out
Flashed following instructions ... it appears the basebannd was not cell provider specific. Or, if it is, entering the apn information straightened it out. I have the July 15th baseband and my phone still works.
However, it makes no difference in my GPS locks. They are still slow. Maybe I will edit the GPS configuration file as mentioned in a couple other threads.. and see if that coupled with the new baseband will improve it.
If you care at all, I will post an update.

Absolutely I'm always open to learning. Thanks for your update. Have you tried gps running stock? Immediately after updating baseband, our did your just reflash weapon immediately to test run gps?
Did.not test run ... immediately reflashed...
However, in the GPSconfig file I disabled the wifi wiper (very bottom of file, change value from 1 to 0) and I had instant GPS locks.!!!
I mean instant.... less than 5 seconds. May be a fluke so I'm gonna drive around and periodically open maps to see how long it takes to lock in.

Absolutely made a huge improvement. Once I made that change to the gpsconfig file, I have had GPS locks in less than 1 minute.

Praise for TwistedUmbrella 4.04 ROM - New Lease on Life for My Thunderbolt

Regarding Twistedumbrella 4.04 Rom found here:
I've never donated to a developer (shame on me) but I just did for this one. I really want to keep my Thunderbolt going cause I'm off contract and have an unlimited data plan. Like some are reporting, the most recent builds of this ROM gave me a boot loop and I can't run them, but anyone considering trying this rom I encourage you to try the 12/06 edition at the link below. This 12/06 installed for me and ran just fine, and I am SO pleased at the increased speed AND battery life that I perceive I am getting. This ROM is not loaded with the HTC sense overhead, and things seem much snappier all around. I was about to ditch my Thunderbolt because things had slowed to molasses using the original BAMF 4.04 rom, but this one is working great!
Here's the link (copied from the thread linked above)
THANK YOU TWISTEDUMBRELLA
I too would like to join in and say thanks to twisted. His rom is the only thing that is keeping me on the Tbolt. I am one of the few with a model that gets bootloops from the newer versions but 12/06 works great for me.
I'm grateful too...

I too am grateful for the twisted ROM. I also have the boot loops on versions younger than 12/06. I also have the serial number ending in "A". However, my Bolt is working quite well with the 12/06 ROM!
Thanks Twisted!

What 4ext recovery version are you using? I'm using rc8 and all his builds boot fine. Hall is using rc5 and doesn't get them either. I'm just curious if the rc9 version of the recovery has a bug that is causing the boot loops.

As mentioned in the Dev section thread, the bootloops coincide with a certain version of hardware of the Tbolt. Specifically, those with a TBolt with a model number ending with an "A" are affected by the bootloops. It doesn't have anything to do with the recovery software.
Bingo. I pulled my battery to check the serial number and yes indeed, mine ends "A." But like is also mentioned above, my 12/06 rom is running VERY well, so I'm completely happy where I am.
But thanks for pointing this out -- that saves me a lot of time from being tempted to play with the recovery software or partitions or anything else.

That still doesn't take away from the fact that the recovery could be causing the problem. It's possible that whatever is different with the hardware could have an affect on the recovery as well.

Good point, nonetheless it seems there may be a work around of restoring just the boot data from a earlier (12/06) version of the rom will make the newer ones work while sacrificing the camera (it stops working).
Update: (don't want to keep adding off-topic posts) The work around worked for me without any problems (camera worked) when going from 12/06 to 12/19. Also the new 12/28 update doesn't bootloop for me.
But for a majority of tbolt usrs if u got a p/n ending with an "A", "B" and you experience any issues i.e. bootloops I caution you to stay away from ics for now until something stable comes out if it ever will. Lol!
For those with p/n "C", "XC" etc happy flashing. Seems these experience random reboots at some point but do not have major issues as the ones above.
Just thot I'd put this out there for those going thro bootloops and its driving them nuts!

I cannot believe anyone actually used the BAMF ICS rom for more than 5 mins. that rom is full of so much wack. Never had any bootloops with any of Twisted builds and ive tried pretty much all of them since day one. TWRP...
a bit of info on this particular bootloop for those not following the thread:
-flashing a previous working boot partition from recovery seems to get you past the loop (e.g. flash new rom, restore boot from 12/06 backup)
-alternatively, the 12/28 version on page 28 of the thread works with no loop on my particular hardware. i think twisted is still working on a final build though, which could potentially return to bootlooping if he hasn't isolated the problem.

HA! I deserved that, vice versa. I know enough to be dangerous to myself most of the time but that's about it. The BAMF rom looked so much prettier I stayed with it but it ended up a nightmare, as you suggest. I'm now almost on my 24th hour of the 12/06 rom and no spontaneous resets at all, MUCH better batter life, MUCH snappier in general, and I am MUCH happier with my thunderbolt! Presumably there's things that need to be improved past 12/06, but I'm not so much of a power user (obviously) even to have found them.

If you liked the bamf leak then try NuSense out. It is a fantastic rom that uses parts from it and a desire hd rom. For a snappier version that is more stable than the aosp rom try unsense.

I've never had boot loops with any of twisted's releases. I did however had the occasional random reboot. I'd go to answer a phone call and this sucker would just reboot on me for no reason.

The only time I heard of that was when people used the leaked radios or the combination radio made from the leak and .19 radio.

Hey guys I have run into a problem I would appreciate any comments on -- I've been all over the internet reading about the failure of Google Maps/Navigation to read street names in Andriod 404 without finding anything that helps me. I already had Ivona voice installed, and I even installed SVOX to see if that what help, but the app refuses to use anything but the standard voice, and it never gives street names, just "turn right, turn left" etc.
I've done all the clear data and cache suggestions and that isn't helping.
Does anyone know if a fix was developed that I can apply using this 12/6 ROM? other than that this rom is working great for me, and I suspect the problem isn't in the rom itself. I'd even gladly download an older version of the MAP apk if I could find it - I don't use the advanced MAP features at all.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Really, I been only getting the random reboots, however I am on the leaked ICS radio.
Maybe I should switch back to the stock .19 radio.... Unless the new HTC ICS radio comes out soon with this update.
Does anyone know where the radio forum went too?
