Think I got enough MicroUSB cables? - Samsung Infuse 4G

I was running around my house the other day trying to find an extra microUSB cable, when I decided I should just order a couple extra (from www.monoprice.com) to keep around the house...I ended up getting:
2x1.5ft
2x3ft
2x6ft
1x10ft
...all for $9.60 shipped! They seem like high quality cables, and definitely cost a lot less than any brick-and-mortar store!
If you haven't ordered from MonoPrice before, I highly recommend them.

one question I do have, triq6.
Just to satisfy my curiosity, why would someone need a 10ft long microUSB cable.

The power outlet next to my bed is a couple feet away, so now I can use my phone normally (i.e. not leaning towards the side of the bed) while it's charging. It also came in handy during a road trip last weekend; I was using my phone in the back seat while it was plugged into the charger in the center console.

Agree with this. I just bought a 6 foot charger for 6 bucks off of amazon. I wish I read this thread, I wanted to grab a really long charger for bedside charging. Data transfer speeds might be slow with that, but for charging. It should be working great!

Thanks

10ft is kinda long...I've had bad experiences with long or low quality cables
is the 10ft cable reliable in transferring data? i'm sure it's ok for charging...

I'm just curious if the non samsung usb cables can still charge properly over usb.

Wall charger

The wall charger (micro usb cable and plug) is way too short to be useful to me. I bought a cheap one off ebay, and it barely fits. I'm afraid to use it because it's so hard to unplug once you get it in. Anybody have any good suggestions for a longer wall charger that actually fits.
What about trying a retractable female-to-male USB extension cable to run between the wall outlet adapter and the HTC USB cable? I believe most PC and cell phone accessory stores sell them for around $5 - $10 and will extend up to around 3 - 4 additional feet. Here's a link to one that's in stock at HTC Depot...
http://www.htcdepot.com/smartphone-experts-usb-extension-cable/5A18A625.htm
Yeah...I have one.
At least that way you aren't cramming something that doesn't fit into the phone and risking damaging the USB port.
i brought a couple of micro USB cables from meritline it took 2 weeks for them to come here. it cost me $4 including shipping for 2 cables. They ship then from HK. So far I am using this cable in my office and have not has any issue
I currently use a 5' male to female USB "extension cord"... Been using it for years and highly recommend the setup.
On another note, if someone were to trip over the cord, it has an extra breakaway point now... I believe it cost me $5 for two of them... Gave the other as a gift...

In the past I have bought longer usb cables and just had them shipped from Hong Koing as well. However, recently I just ran out to Walmart and paid $10 for a 4 foot usb cable and charger. Though you can get it for cheaper, I needed it right away.
I just ordered a standard Android USB cable and plug it into a USB extension cable. Works fine for me.

Do not buy cheap acc for the infuse

Recent horrible experience shows that cheap cables just don't cut it!
(charging failures, time consuming, windows error and so on)
So don't skimp and get the OEM cables

I disagree - you can get cheap non-OEM cables, but you need to know where to look.
eBay/direct-from-China is usually not a good bet.
Reputable domestic vendors (even if their product is probably from China) are usually a safe bet. People over at AVSForum swear by Monoprice for HDMI cables, and I have had great results with their USB cables.
The only thing that has been a disappointment from Monoprice for me are their car charging adapters.

I second this. The OEM cables probably come from China as well. It's not a matter of brand, it's a matter of quality. If you buy from a shady source such as some guy on eBay, you are most likely going to get cables that are of a quality compatible to some shady guy selling stuff on eBay.
Buying from reputable second hand sources, or from non-OEM manufacturers who have a proven track record is perfectly acceptable and in most cases completely fine.

Any other HDMI cable would've done the same thing. There's nothing active in an HDMI cable - it either fails to pass data or it works. If something fried, there was a groundloop or ESD event that would've happened with a cable from any other manufacturer.
always OEM

Very true for me. Even OEM Motorolla charging USB cable will fail 2 out of 3 times to charge Infuse. I have to wiggle it a little bit untill it'll start charging. I'm not sure it's cable fault though since I used a bunch of other phones before with micro-USB cables and only Infuse shows as very picky about plug.

Infuse Hardware Repair

I'm a day one infuse user. Its been a great phone. But my issue is I recently adopted a little kitty and she runs around like normal little kitties do. Well she ran by and drug my infuse off my night stand and it must have landed on the plug while it was charging. (feels sloppy and bent) Surprisingly my phone still charges fine but I'm contemplating taking the phone apart and seeing what the issue is.
So my question is the phone worth taking apart and repairing the phone myself considering it still works/charges.
A little background. I'm semi technologically advanced. I'm a system administrator in an IT department. I have no issues with soldering on the insides of my phone Anyone else had this issue and repaired their plug.
If it has not been done I will be willing to take some photos and show how i did it.

Plugging the charger into the charge port on the phone feels loose and sloppy. With the charger plugged in the cable is actually pointed down a little bit instead of a straight in shot.

High quality micro usb_charging cord

Who makes the best micro usb_charging charging cords out there? I've had two samsung cables and both are starting to wear near the connector part of her cord. One is fairly new as I had to replace the charger since it produced a high pitch and got extremely warm. I'm open to anything even if it's for another phone. Quality equals reliability so no ebay, reputable companies please. Thank you

You are fine using odin and getting all your necessary files transferred to root and stuff? No problems? Is it durable? I know its my fault for wear on my cords since im a teenager and carry them in a bag all the time so they get messed up. I called Samsung (after calling Rogers, who tried to tell me that the usb cable was an "accessory"), Samsung confirmed the FREAKING OBVIOUS, that the cable was not an accessory, they gave me a Ticket # Then I just went to my carrier's store & the guy there just gave me a new usb cable, after I told him that I'd called Samsung.
Same problem, the cable was starting to bulge at the soft rubber boot.

True, but then again you rely on the cord when using odin or putting files to flash if you dont hassle with taking out the sd card. Yeah so you entitle youself to maybe ruining your phone by doing things to it. Still would you risk it on cheap usb cords? So Potential to ruin your phone remains at hand of the usb cord, phone being a life purchase for some. It truly isnt a life crisis for me, i just wanted to see what was out there and what people were using.

Thanks for this link. Bought two of these just a few minutes ago. Lost my original charger, might really still be here somewhere as I can't remember the last time I saw it. I also got the 4 port usb wall charger 2.1A... I hope they work well. My husband has a usb wall charger for his Samsung dumbphone that I am using now, it has been 6 hours and my phone is still not fully charged (extended battery). Sucks to wait 4 days but if it will charge like the original one it is worth every penny.
:good:
For USB chargers that are capable of putting out >1 Amp of power when connected using a standard USB cable, the phone only allows itself to be charged at the slower USB charging rate of less than ½ Amp, that in many instances cannot keep up with the current demands of in-car navigation.
There are usb cables that are designed for charging only. (search amazon for Naztech-Micro-USB-Charging-Cable) It shorts the two data connections together (rendering them useless for data), so the phone only sees it as a power connection, and will accept the higher current of the charging source.

[Q] sch i535 micro usb connection charging problem

Hi,
I have had my phone since August 2012. Starting the other day my micro usb port on my S3 is starting to get really picky as to how it must be positioned to charge. I have tried atleast 4 different cables, all doing the same thing. I know its just a matter of time before it stops charging all together...
My question is
A)Is the micro USB replaceable (I have no soldering experience)
B)Should I replace the whole motherboard
C)Should I look for a new phone (I can use my brothers upgrade.... but only as last resort)
What are your thoughts?
Thanks!

I see videos for replacing just the usb part ON the motherboard, some people solder (like I said, I never soldered before)
AND there are some 'unprofessional' looking videos where people use a heat gun (which I have) to just replace it.
As for the motherboard replacement, there are good complete disassemblies of the S3, and some boards can be found on ebay
but for $130...
Well you should be careful charging your phone next time perhaps when you get a new device don't let the charger yank down on the port itself
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
you could always invest in wireless charging! Then you wouldnt have to deal with it! Could be a good alternative!
I found this:
http://www.amazon.com/SainSonic-Standard-Wireless-Charger-Receiver/dp/B00C3DKSRM?tag=notebookscom-20
and then you can just buy a wireless charger and boom no more worrying about the microusb port!

You could also buy a spare battery and one if those wall charger that you put the battery in (like that come with the zero lemon 2300 slims). You essentially charge the battery outside the phone, then just pop the charged battery in (no touching charging port on your phone). I think they're like 20 something bucks on Amazon and come with that wall charger thing.
