okay so the 7.0plus is basically the same thing as the 10.1 so what give? No roms for 7 plus? Can i try the 10.1 wifi versions on the tablet:-|?
The Gtab 7+ is nothing like the 10.1. The internals are completely different. The 10.1 has a Nvidia Tegra 2 processor and the 7+ uses a Samsung Exynos.

Don't even try it, the partitions are completely different and you could permanently mess up your tablet. You could maybe try recoverying your tablet with odin if you do install a samsung galaxy tab 10.1 rom, but its not the risk.
10.1 roms will definatley never ever work on this tablet, unless it is ported specifically for our tab.
so what your saying is the 10.1 inch is an overall better tablet because of the video processing?
lol, its actually the other way around, nvidia tegra sucks compared to exynos. Nvidia tegra's GPU is ok, but the exynos has a quad-core gpu.
Answer : NO
Totally different hardware and chip-set so please don't even try.
the answer is.. yes you can "install" tab 10.1 in 7 plus using odin.
BUT
then you WILL end up destroying it. and have to throw it away, and would probably end up buying a fruit as a replacement. good luck.
/s
don't try it. fruit sucks.

Hello,
Have the opportunity to buy a 4 day old second hand galaxy plus for about the price of an galaxy tab 2. The specs on the 7 plus are the "plus" over the tab 2, but the plus still runs on honeycomb 3.0. My phone runs the ics and i'm very happy about ics.
Is the 7 plus a good investment, (will it get the ics one day), or would the tab 2 with the "lesser" specs would be the better buy in the dev support department?
Wich one should you choose over the other and why?
Thanks for the input,
Adam
Forgot to mention, it is the P6210 model (wifi + IR, no 3G).
Is it the same as the P6200 model for rooting the device? Is it possible to use a P6200 rom on the P6210? Am i correct that the p6200 has more dev support than the P6210?
This to keep the change on ics as open as possible.

The only hype I've seen from the Tab 2 is the cheap price. 8GB with roughly 4GB free is a joke. Not to mention VGA front camera, less HP and unusable SD storage because of ICS. Great Deal!

Thank you. The biggest thing about this forum is that there are PLENTY of users that are happy, XDA is just where the whiners come out in force.
The Plus is far and away a better device, and the ICS bruhaha is simply temporary.

+1
+1 for the Tab 7 plus which I bought.
Far better specs than the Tab2 IMHO . the Exynos processor is great. Agree with the comments on the remaning space left onthe Tab2. 2M front camera on the plus is actually pretty good in comparison.
Just watch out for wifi. On tab plus a few folks have had issues with wifi (me included, but only @ work, so less of an issue for me) no idea whether that's fixed on the ICS build for the Tab 2, but poss something to think about.
I'd still go for the Tab 7 Plus personally.
still undecided, but thanks for the input!
maybe ill jump to an 10" instead

The GTab 2 has an OMAP 4430 which is also used in Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet. I have the Kindle Fire which is a decent performer, but in terms of graphics performance, the GTab Plus with Exynos chip and Mali400 GPU really blows the SGX 540 @ 300 MHz of the OMAP 4430 away.
Yes they both play 1080p videos smoothly - downloaded H.264 or DIVX videos, or Adobe Flash in the browser (NOT through youtube app). However, GTab+ has superior browser experience - webpages load much quicker (eg. website pictures and text are ready for viewing much earlier when it is waiting for Adobe flash ads to load). Drag to view different parts of the webpage and pinch-zooming is buttery smooth in the GTab+ and stuttery in the Kindle Fire. Maybe it cannot all be blamed on the processor - maybe Honeycomb on the GTab+ helps because KF has Gingerbread. I am not into games but I expect the GTab+ should also perform better than the OMAP4430.
IMO, it is worth spending $50 more for the GTab+ than the GTab2 (yes I waited for the price drop to buy my GTab+)
After a month of use I finally took my Galaxy Tab 8.9 back to the shop today to get a refund. Turns out that people weren't exaggerating that slowdown you get on Tegra 2 tabs...
Anyway! I'm in the market for a new Tab now. I'll probably hang on to see if anything is announced at Google I/O (like the rumoured quad core $250 tab) but if not, what's my best bet? The 7.0 Plus on Honeycomb or the Tab 2 &" on ICS?
My biggest concern is how well the 1GHz TI OMAP + PowerVR GPU chipsets in the Tab 2 hold up against the Exynos + Mali400 in the 7.0 Plus. As long as the Tab 2 can deal with 720p .mp4 video (which the 8.9 certainly couldn't!) and play decent games like Sonic 4, GTA III and Anomaly HD, I'll be happy.
I have the SGT 2 10.1 which also has the same chip as the SGT 2 7, and I can say the 720p screen and ICS is too much for it. All the games play quite bad, even custom roms don't fix much of the lag. I am thinking of selling it and getting the cheapest Acer/Asus etc. quad-core tab.

I'm hoping performance won't be as bad on the 7inch Tab due to the much smaller screen resolution. One thing I am considering is where I can reliably purchase a 7.0 Plus from, which at the moment seems like no-where. I have purchased it from online sellers in the past and had many issues, such as bad firmware or missing IRDA blasters.

Personally (And please take this with a grain of salt as I purchased the Tab2 7.0) I would go with the Tab2 7.0. First off the CPU is easily overclocked past the Plus' CPU, so the only real advantage the plus has is out the window. The 7.0 doesn't have a rear flash, but to tell you the truth, if you are taking pictures with your tablet you are doing it wrong.
The 7.0 has plenty of speed especially after ROMing and OCing. Even without that, the tablet still flies compared to the OG Transformer I used to own. I don't know if the 10" is that much slower, but it sounds like an over exaggeration to me. Touchwiz is pretty decent on the tablet and leaves plenty of RAM (Usually around 500 MB after initial boot) to allow the device room to expand.
I was debating the two before buying and I just believe that the Tab2 7.0 is a much easier buy, especially for the price.
Oh and don't forget the 7.0 has ICS while the Plus is still stuck on HC, that's actually really big right there.
For the videos, I found on my Tab 2, some players are better at playing certain videos than others. For instance I have some 720p MKV anime files that play well with software decoding on one player, and run 720p mp4's like garbage. I then switch to the other player and the 720p mp4 runs smooth like butter and the mkv can't render.
So yes, the TAB can handle the 720 files, you just may need to find a video player (or players -- I use 3 different ones) that works for you. (1080 content though is pushing it).

Just asking if you tried 1080p mkv and what was the result. Cnet reviews for Tab 2 10 showing slow frame rates while they said they couldnt get it to work on 1080p.
Im just wondering how come a Galaxy S2 phone can play native 1080pmkv just fine, with a few 0.4 (or is it 0.2) ghz dual core. I know that processors are made by different companies, so is the Texas Instrument processor just not powerful enough?

I just tried a 1080p mkv with diceplayer on HW rendering and it ran fine. Then again I am running a custom rom.
Also a 1.2ghz exynos > 1.0ghz OMAP4.

Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Spec
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_tab_2_10_1_p5100-4567.php
Toshiba Excite 10.1 SE Spec
http://www.gsmarena.com/toshiba_excite_10_se-5154.php
Looks like toshiba has much more superior specs than tab 10.1 since the galaxy tab 10.1 is 1ghz dual core and toshiba is 1.5 ghz tegra 3 quad core.
only problem is bootloader for toshiba excite 10.1 se is locked while its open on galaxy tab 10.1...
because of that im not sure which to pick... spec wise the toshiba seems by far superior but in actual day to day performance if say compared with a galaxy tab 10.1 rooted smooth optimised custom rom vs stock android toshiba excite 10.1 se... which one would have better performance?
and which one do you recon would have better battery life?
I wanna get all and any other xda peoples opinions on this ?? I posted in this thread because there isn't even a excite 10.1 thread on xda ..??
BY THE WAY --- im getting one of these free from my university and I have to choose which one so telling me other tablet options will be meaningless in my situation---
Go with the gtab 2

I would say go with the gtab 2. If your gonna be into flashing roms to it and such this will have many more options for that stuff. For battery life i can go a long time without charging my tablet. the gtab 2 will probably have a little bit better battery life.
If you don't want custom roms you should get the toshiba.
I've got a Tab 2 and am growing tired of the lag even using the basic function such as web browsing (running stock or rooted/CM10.1). I don't want to completely jump from the Samsung ship (I have an iPad 2 already) and wanted to know how the Tab 2 stacked up against the much higher spec'd Note 10.1 but can't find any direct comparisons on here or online.
My question is whether the the Note 10.1 is WAY better/faster/smoother/more lag free than the Tab 2. From the spec's I know it should be but I'm interested in real world first hand experience of anyone who's got or used both.
There is a lag in the GT2? Hmm didn't notice that... But since I want 4G LTE on my tab, there isn't a lot of choices...

I actually have both and there is a significant difference but that is because the note 10.1 has a quad core processor and 2gb of ram vs galaxy tab 2 which is dual core 1Ghz with 1 GB of ram. I noticed it more on touchwiz but after I got pacman ROM and over clocked it to 1.5 GHz its working pretty smooth. I can even play some high quality games without lag. So I guess the only way to actually get it to be smooth is on an aosp ROM and over clocking it to 1.4 just to be safe

Thanks, that's the info I was after and is what I'd suspected. I'd much rather run vanilla and unrooted tbh. I bought an iPad and whilst it was a restrictive OS I liked the smoothness so subsequently really enjoyed the freedom of not having to mess around with Rom's trying to smooth things out as I'd tried before with an original Xoom.
So do you see any lag at all using the Note? Things like pinch-zooming on the web, flicking between apps etc?
Actually there is something that gets lost in the details and blogs, the real answer is..it depends. Not all Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 devices are the same. The ATT Variant actually comes with a Dual Core 1.5 GHZ S4 Krait, basically the same chips inside of the US S3s, which makes for a very very very snappy package. If you are looking at a 1.0 GHZ model, meeh, but if you happen to come across a newer carrier model, TMobile, ATT, etc, they are an order of magnitude faster than the stock 10.1 Tab 2.
Hello I want to know if its possible someday a port from Note 2014 to our Note 2012, this is gonna be obsolete?
I 2nd that! Seeing as it has been done on the Note 3 to Note 2. Should be possible?
This won't be possible. The Note 10.1 2014, uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU and a Qualcomm Adreno GPU. The 'normal' 10.1 uses a Samsung Exynos 4410 CPU and a Mali-400 MP4 GPU.

This is what port means mastermind
To chnage what is needed to make a rom work on other device rather than its own.
Yes, you're right but the Hardware differences are big! If you think so, go ahead and try it. Good luck
I know the hardware is a big difference between the two but theres got to be some approximation that would work on our systems...I know that for the most part I would be looking for the revamped s-pen input, especially the menu that pops up when you hold down the pen button (air command? Quick command? Something like that?)
The stuff that I would really want would be the stuff from a Note 3...which as I understand is closer to my n8013 than the new Note 2014. Maybe a hybrid with the backbone of the old system, tweaked and updated to the latest Android, with all the S-goodies from this year's phone and tablet. If it can work on the Note 3 it cant be too far off from the original 10.1 right? *crosses fingers* im dying for a reason to talk my wife into surrendering my note 10.1 so I can get out of this God awful ipad mini.
Dear Santa...blah blah blah 2014 ROM blah blah blah.
I have spoken to devs that have ported note 3 to note 2 and they think that it would be quite easy. The hardware between the note 3 and the note 2 is quite a leap and yet the note 3 works brilliant on my note 2, in fact I prefer my note 2 over my new note 3.
It won't be able to be ported until we get the 4.3 official rom.
port note 10.1 2014 or note 3 UI to galaxy note 10.1 2012
Has anyone done this yet, are they still waiting on a 4.3 update for this device. Would love to use my n8013 with the new s-pen features or the 8.0 as well.
