New to Sensation - HTC Sensation

Picked one up on Craigslist last night. Great phone so far but need t root/rom...etc etc.
Problem I have is it didn't come with nothing but a wall charger (non removable cord).
None of my Samsung or Motorola USB cables seem to work when trying to connect to a PC. This normal for HTC phones? Do I really need a HTC Branded cable?

Not at all, You just need the HTC Drivers, Download HTC Sync, Or google the drivers...
I use various make / model chargers/ USB Cables, they work flawlessly.

You definitely need HTC original(or compatible) cable (in the end of the cable is USB port witch you connect in PC or in the charger, the other side of the cable you connect into the phone ) so you can connect the phone with PC and make the things easier

I think any micro USB 2.0 cable should work I used Nokia micro USB cable and just fine. But back to the question what you want to do with the cable. If you are using to OTG, hTC phone not supported.

Whats so special about the HTC data cable?

Hi this may have been answered before but is there anything special about the htc data cable? If I use a mini usb cable it seems to work exactly the same for data transfer to pc and charging the phone (in car or home)
nothing
but known companys like htc always charge more for cables then cheap oem cables cost
Thanks, thats what I thought just wanted to make sure there wasn't a problem with me using a mini usb.

Problem with USB.

My Desire s won't charge from the adapter.
After connecting to a PC via HTC's cable nothing happens
I also used another USB cable (from external HDD) to connect with the same results.
Can anyone help please?
Install HTC app for Desire S.

I don't say that i can't sync my htc. The USB port is totally dead on the phone! I can't use the htc charger my car charger and any other micro usb cable to charge or connect to a PC.
Today i sent my DS back and waiting for an answer this week.
Also waiting for an explain on the red notification light leaking on the top side of the phone.
This is really wire, and I haven't seen anything like this. Connected to PC with USB cable, DS should jump out some alert to select how to connect your mobile.
If the HW fails, Android has no means of knowing you're attemting to connect anything to the system...this is most likely a HW problem, so sending it back for repair/replacement was the right thing to do

USB Data Cable

Hello,
does anyone know where can I purchase a USB Cable for my Galaxy S so that it could be detected by kies?
thanks.
The cable used is a standard Micro USB cable, nothing special.
Yes, any standard Micro USB cable work.
you can buy for less than $2 over Hong Kong site
Be careful, once I bought a couple of cheap cables for my SGS on eb.. and they resulted to be only good for charging (and the charge is really slow), no usb file transfer, no Odin,...
I use this one from dealextreme: http://goo.gl/qYLSz, "Genuine" Nokia CA-101. Works very well with well everything...

THIS IS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT.
I bought a cable for £2, thought it was dirt cheap.
but looks like Samsung restricts usage of other cables on its phones. It doesn't allow the phone to be detected as a MTP device? or in Kies.
I tried several different cables.
Never had any problems.
(original Samsung, Nokia, Moto, Nokia from.Dealextreme, cheap cables, Kindle,....)

I can't help but think this is blatantly false. I've even made my own micro-USB cable for my tests on battery charging and it still had zero problems.
The USB spec doesn't allow a device to discriminate on cables. If there was something different in the cable then it would affect the computer side as well.
Now on the other hand the USB connectors themselves are fragile as all heck. I've been through many failed cables over the years in both mini and micro USB cables. Chances are the cable itself is bad.
The cable which I bought was good I think. It was charging, and I could connect it into USB mode. But I couldnt connect it into MTP mode.
I don't think I have even used my Samsung cable that came with the phone, Im not even sure where it is now too LOL
I have a Nokia N900 too so I use that cable (Nokia CA-101) instead and everything works fine
Kies however is a completely different kettle of fish and has always been temperamental at the best of times, especially in Windows 7
Now I use Galnet MIUI Rom I no longer (thankfully) have to use Kies
anyone know where to get an official cable in the UK?
ahhhhh wow looks good!
Stop spamming dude?
I bought cheap usb cable from ebay.
date transfer is really slow and somethimes it give's not dedected error.
So it's importand to buy goed one.
I use my old cable from samsung i8510 now at work
I've bought 2 of these and they are working well.
I use them to stay permanently connected to my docking station in the 2 offices I'm working

Genuine HTC USB Cable

Hi guys
Anyone know where to buy a GENUINE usb cable? They are the only ones that work with ADB, as I have many micro-usb (blackberry, generic, etc) but only my HTC one actually works with ADB. Anyone know where to buy one?
Cheers
I've purchased a few from ebay that claim to be the real deal, the only thing that says htc is a removable stick which makes me doubt the authenticity but I assure you the work fine with
adb. they only cost around $2. there are tons of them on ebay, just search htc micro usb cable
if you want the exact link to what I bought let me know and ill post

I can tell you for a fact that is not true, I've never had the original cable since my brother gave me his G2, and I've been using a Nook micro-usb cable with my phone ever since I owned it on my computer.
A Genuine micro-USB cable is no different in communication than any other micro-usb cable, if you're using windows you probably just got the USB drivers wrong for your phone, or didn't download all of the platform-tools files. Again the only thing that makes the cable genuine is the htc/t-mobile logo on it, otherwise it's the same as any other OEM/Generic cable thats been branded.
PS: Did you remember to enable USB Debugging?
Thanks guys, I ordered one off ebay for £2 and yeah I did enable usb debugging

i have tried loads of different genuine micro usb cables from various makers and never had a problem...
shame i didnt see this earlier or i could have sent you about 20 for free
So if USB Debugging is working is there no threat to using a generic USB cable? I have a generic one and rooted last night. The entire time I was nervous because there were a lot of posts about the official HTC cable. Was I worrying needlessly?
Yup, it is true some might not work but if they work once, well they should keep on working. Pretty much if you have debugging on and the proper drivers and everything else... then you type adb devices and you see your serial number, that cable is just fine. If it says waiting for device or something like that, then it is possible you have a bad cable but almost always a different problem

Thanks! That would have saved some needless worrying last night but it all worked out. Good to know for the future though!
Afaik, there are only two kinds of micro-USB cables. Normally they support both data and power (charging), but some only support charging (data pins aren't connected).
I bought some cheapest retractable micro-USB data cables from dx.com and they work just fine. The cheap retractable ones just seem to easily break after long use.

The most common chance of you getting a charge-only USB cable, is if it came with something like a Car charger. Otherwise they should always have both the power and data pins.

One of my computers wont recognize Galaxy S8+

Does any one know a reason why a computer won't recognize a Galaxy S8+ when plugged in USB. To me its clear that drivers are messed up on the ZBook, but I don't know how to fix it.
I have two PCs, my wifes laptop and this HP ZBook x2 G4. All three of the other devices recognize the S8+, but the ZBook wont. I've gone into S8+ settings, turned on developer mode and turned on USB Debugging with no success. I've tried a USB C to USB C cable, as well as the USB 3.0 to USB C able that comes with the phone. Still nothing.

USB 3.0 has played much havok with S8 most recommend a 2.0 hub and seems to solve issues some of the time

First off, thank you for your feedback and your time.
Idk if thats the issue in this case. My other two PCs have no problem reading it via USB 3.0
But lets say the USB 3.0 havok IS the issue here. Does the USB 3.0 havok apply to USB-C to USB-C? My ZBook (the one having issues) has two USB-C ports. But even when my S8+ is connected to my ZBook via C to C I still have the problem. I figure if the "havok" is strictly related to USB 3.0 and it still doesn't work with C then maybe my problem is something different, unrelated to the USB 3.0 havok.
I REALLY want to connect my S8+ to my ZBook via USB-C to USB-C, so that I can use Sidesyc smoothly.
My guess would be the usb 3 driver on your laptop, perhaps try to find an updated usb3 driver.
The fact that your other two laptops see your S8 suggests that problem is with the laptop rather than S8+ or usb cable
Will look into it! Thank you!
Hi, Google a program called USBDeview.
