USB Data Cable - Galaxy S I9000 Accessories

Hello,
does anyone know where can I purchase a USB Cable for my Galaxy S so that it could be detected by kies?
thanks.

The cable used is a standard Micro USB cable, nothing special.

Yes, any standard Micro USB cable work.
you can buy for less than $2 over Hong Kong site

Be careful, once I bought a couple of cheap cables for my SGS on eb.. and they resulted to be only good for charging (and the charge is really slow), no usb file transfer, no Odin,...

I use this one from dealextreme: http://goo.gl/qYLSz, "Genuine" Nokia CA-101. Works very well with well everything...

THIS IS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT.
I bought a cable for £2, thought it was dirt cheap.
but looks like Samsung restricts usage of other cables on its phones. It doesn't allow the phone to be detected as a MTP device? or in Kies.

I tried several different cables.
Never had any problems.
(original Samsung, Nokia, Moto, Nokia from.Dealextreme, cheap cables, Kindle,....)

I can't help but think this is blatantly false. I've even made my own micro-USB cable for my tests on battery charging and it still had zero problems.
The USB spec doesn't allow a device to discriminate on cables. If there was something different in the cable then it would affect the computer side as well.
Now on the other hand the USB connectors themselves are fragile as all heck. I've been through many failed cables over the years in both mini and micro USB cables. Chances are the cable itself is bad.

The cable which I bought was good I think. It was charging, and I could connect it into USB mode. But I couldnt connect it into MTP mode.

I don't think I have even used my Samsung cable that came with the phone, Im not even sure where it is now too LOL
I have a Nokia N900 too so I use that cable (Nokia CA-101) instead and everything works fine
Kies however is a completely different kettle of fish and has always been temperamental at the best of times, especially in Windows 7
Now I use Galnet MIUI Rom I no longer (thankfully) have to use Kies

anyone know where to get an official cable in the UK?

ahhhhh wow looks good!

Stop spamming dude?

I bought cheap usb cable from ebay.
date transfer is really slow and somethimes it give's not dedected error.
So it's importand to buy goed one.
I use my old cable from samsung i8510 now at work

I've bought 2 of these and they are working well.
I use them to stay permanently connected to my docking station in the 2 offices I'm working

Micro USB cables that just charge, no data?

I bought a couple of cheap generic USB cables, one a retractable micro USB job and the other a standard USB that splits to both a mini and micro USB at the other end.
Both cables charge my phone just fine, but the phone doesn't register either cable as a data connection and no notification comes up.
Is the micro USB cable that comes with the phone industry standard, and if so does this mean that my generic cables are likely to be just off spec enough in some way that the phone doesn't register them?
Strange thing is that the mini USB end of the split cable seem to work on other things like cameras and other phones. I'm confuzzled.
when plugging in cable did you activate usb mount in the notification bar
i bought a mini to micro converter as I still have quite a few devices that need mini and thought I could save on convenience by just carrying round the adapter and plugging into existing computer cables and chargers I have around the house, car and work - Same thing with that power only, no data.
Got it from ebay some of the listings on there state "power only", still dont understand why, it cant be much more expensive to wire all 4 pins. As micro is becoming the standard.....

That's the problem, I plug the cable into the N1, but don't get a notification, no tone, nothing to suggest that the phone sees the cable as a data cable at all.
I'm guessing that if the phone doesn't think it is a data cable there is no way to persuade it otherwise.
There's essentially 2 types of cables: Charge-only or Sync & Charge. This is true for the adapters as well.
It seems you folks mistakenly bought the Charge-only cable/adapter.
After some research, I found this cable (it's blackberry branded, but works 100% with my N1 for Sync and Charge):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001UC9NOQ/ref=oss_product
It's cheap ($3 shipped), it's made by a trusted brand (Blackberry) and the actual cable is rather thickly insulated so it's durable too.
Read the user reviews, especially the guy with the high helpful votes count, for more details about charge-only and sync-n-charge cables.
Just tried both cables on a Nokia E623, and they both worked fine first time, charging and data.
Now it' looking like there is something slightly odd (or perfectly on spec) about the female Micro USB plug on the N1. Perhaps they are just made to only accept male plugs that exactly meet standard specs, and if a plug is out slightly in say it's contact positions or sizes the N1 won't detect it.
Anyone got any ideas?

[Q] usb otg cable doesn`t work

I had my 7.7 for some time and about 2 days ago i've bought a cheap chinese usb otg cable from some shoup around here. I thought it would be as simple as pluging it in and connecting some usb stick like i've done with justabout all usb otg stuff i previously owned. But it doesn`t do anything. I`ve tried other usb devices, the tab simply doesn`t power them at all. I`ve also disasembled the cable and measure it, everything is fine. I`m on stock ics 4.04, also tried a couple of kernels, it just doesn`t work.
Has anyone encountered such a problem.? Damn weird....

errrr....I think I misread your issue and specific item...
sorry!
Still great though!
The usb otg cable is just a plain simple usb cable with a 20kilo ohm resistor placed between 2 pins on the galaxy tab 30pin connector. That's about all the things inside the actual cable. When you plug it in, the tablet should figure out that the 20k resistor made contact with the pins and an accesory was connected. Mine doesn't. The cable is fine, i think there's something wrong with the tablet. Doesn't it supossed to power on whatever you insert on that usb port? Because i can't get those 5v on the port.
I don't know if it's a software or hardware problem....

what file system is your USB Stick using? try formatting the stick to FAT32 and see if its a file system issue
have you tried using another OTG cable? I'm also using a china knock off bought for 4 bucks, running stock ICS and it detects most of the thumb drives I attached to it
thanks for the replies but the situation is kind of different in my case.
In order for the tablet to read what kind of filesystem you have on a usb mass storage device (stick, hdd, whatever) it must first power it on and then attempt to access it. In my case, it simply doesn't power on. So, it doesn't matter what kind of file format it has. Also, if i plug a mouse/keyboard, it won't work either.
I thought that maybe it's a broken wire inside the connector, so i took it apart and measured each pin. The otg adapter is fine, it should do the job. I've also tested on another samsung tab and it worked straight away. It seems there's something wrong with my tab. However, other then this, the 30 pin port on the tab itself seems to be working fine.

USB 3.0 data cable

Does anyone know where you can buy good quality Usb 3.0 data cable for S5.
I bought two from amazon (AmazonBasics USB Cable - 3.0 A Male to Micro B (6 Feet / 1.8 Meters)) but they are not working for me,
on one cable connector is to thick for phone to plug in and when i plug in the other in to a PC nothing happens ( using original Samsung cable connect phone to PC just fine.)
Thanks
I know nothing about these but I was watching a review and this guy said it worked perfect for his s5. May I ask what is the purpose of these cords

Keep an eye on monoprice.com they have the best deals on cables for sure and they are always high-quality cables. I don't see the USB 3 to micro on there just yet though.
Just sent them an email to see if they plan to carry them (i'm sure they will) and if so when they might be available. I'll post their reply.
You just go amazon or ebuy and throw your word "USB 3.0 data cable" And i think you must be select good reviewer product. and i think you can find a good 3.0 data cable from ebuy and amazon.. Just search your item..

Best micro-usb cable

Hi,
I've got quite weird problem. Most micro-usb cables doesn't fit nicely with my phone. I've to push it and it feels like I could break something. Is there company that makes good quality cables like Samsung's original ones?
Pretty easy to get oem cables on ebay.
Ok, but is there any particular company, except oem, that you would recommend?
OEM Micro USB Cable
I have searched everywhere, there is no OEM Micro USB Cable available for Galaxy S4.
On ebay , when you select OEM warranty , no results shows up for Micro USB cable.
Can anyone help me find a replacement, the charger is working fine but I'm unable to find the best cable?
Please advice.
Thanks,
Sid
I've bought an Aukey cable and it works really fine.
Try blueridge. They make some of the best cables. I have one and it even supports fast charging ( qualcomm quick charge )

double yes on the blueridge, been using them a while now and no issues
So Blueridge, Thanks.
try look for Remax micro usb cable which is very durable and good quality. But beware of counterfeit one as there's a lot in the market right now.
I've just got myself an LG cable from ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331618247629 ... The OEM Samsung cable was over 2 years old and was the reason my phone was charging slowly (car charger was fine and swapped an HTC cable onto the Samsung charger and that was fine so definitely the cable ...) - at 300/400mA. With this cable it will charge at the full 1900mA, it seems to fit better (more securely) into the USB port on the phone and it's also slightly longer which is, for me, an advantage.
HTH.

What phone do you use? I threw my stock usb cable (S4) away after it started "connecting/disconnecting" on its own when connected to my PC!
I'm now using my old Blackberry 9380 USB cable which is short and thick AND has NEVER done the same as experienced with stock Samsung cable. I charge with it and flash new ROMS, no problem! :good:
This one time my old stock usb cable disconnected WHILE I'm flashing my S4 with new rom - almost bricked it!
thank you

Hello,.
I can only recommend you one cable, the Anker nylon braided micro usb one, it is the best usb cable I've ever owned.
You do even get a 18 month warranty, you won't be disappointed.
http://www.ianker.com/product/A7116041
As for your problem, it happened too with my new cables. It's pretty normal I think, it's usually over after 2-4 weeks.
I also used a lot of different cables (from my mice, music players, other phones) and those worked w/o any problems as well. Fit like a glove that fits nicely.
Mine is from iOrange-E. It is 6.6ft long and reversible also. Works fine for me.
I love my 6 foot Monoprice cable... Amazing and only 3 bucks with the gold plating(for looks, of course).
These that came with this extra charger are the best I've tried so far.

Smallest Micro USB to HOST/CHARGE adapter?

Hi guys
What are you using to power your Tab S and have a hard drive etc connected
at the same time?
Looking for the smallest possible option to limit bulkiness
Thanks!!
what about this cable.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EJP5X...m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0RE8386SWCWM00V7XPZJ
John.
Yeah looks good....what cables are you guys using for charging and host at the same time?
I heard its not recommended to use an external hard drive without supplying power to the Tab S
Yeah, your right about using an external power supply when using an portable hdd with your tablet as it uses too much power by the hdd, the cable i linked above has an microusb socket for you to plug your tablet usb power adaptor into.
John.
The Y-OTG cables supply power to the OTG device (e.g. SD card USB reader) but not concurrently to the Tab S. Basically all they do is reduce power drain on the TabS. The previous comment to try to use a powered USB hub or a self powered USB device is good advise.

I have to resist the urge to go cheap on power adapters, after i had an car and an mains adapter start smoking in a week and nearly blew-up my HTC M7, I have been looking at the Belkin USB Adapter 2.4amp it comes with an 25.000 damage warranty, they cost between 15-20£ in the UK.

Have you tried the ones on aliexpress.com??
They say its otg and charges at the same time
Samsung tablets no longer supports this function that I know of. They used to have a dock mode that would do usb host charge and hdmi out ending with note 8. I tried all types of resistors and cables so far the lava adapter is the only one that worked. It's a solid 1amp charge with usb function. I wasted more money making and buying cables that said worked but never did. If u want ou cheap buy a usb host cable put a 1ohm to 10k potentiometer in between ground and Id pin turn it slow til u see usb host triggered on the tablet but again it could be a waste of money and not work. I had a tab pro trigger usb host and charge that way but was very unstable current. Any questions let me know.
Hi.
In the user manual it says that the touchscreen my act-up while it is used while the tablet is charging if the power supply is unstable.
A quick Google show this is an common issue for a lot of brands of tablet/phones
