Phone is stuck in boot loop after installing ROM - HTC Sensation

I rooted my phone with revolutionary... did a factory reset.. when I was rooting my phone I noticed that it was HBOOT 1.18.0000 and now it is showing HBOOT 1.17.1111.. if that helps.. I tried to install 2 ROMs.. when I did, i made sure to wipe the data/cache.. im using clockmod recovery 5.0.1.0 and I updated it to 5.0.0.8 in ROM manager.. but now I cannot even access any ROM and am stuck in a boot loop. The ROM loads to a certain point but then just restarts and the HTC logo shows up and it keeps repeating..

The beautiful thing to do is use the search function on the forums and reading the OP helps.
If the rom your using requires a certain firmware and you don't have it installed than that's the issue.

Which rom you were trying to flash? if an ICS one you need to flash the right firmware first and then the rom from recovery.

Depending your ROM, you should choose a proper firmware to flash. See your used rom recommended FW.

[Q] Can't boot on custom roms

Hey,
I recently unlocked my phone using HTCDev.com and rooted it.
At first I couldn't get CWM Recovery on it using ROMManager (even though Rommanager said it was installed it loaded to the default recovery) but I got it on there using adb.
Now when I try to flash any Rom it'll just get stuck on the white screen with green HTC text.
When I restore to my backup of the default rom it'll just boot as normal.
I have HBoot 2.00.0002 (Sense 3.0 update) S-ON (unlocked).
I tried flashing it using Rommanager, CWMRecovery, manually wiping the Cache, Data and Dalvik using CWM, I tried flashing in CWM and I tried both MIUI and Cyanogenmod.
Anyone knows what I'm doing wrong?

Yes. Unlocking with htcdev leaves your device S-ON, and stops the rom installers from flashing boot.img. So you're left with custom rom, and stock 3.0 kernel. Might work with sense 3.0, but flash any 3.5 rom and you're stuck at boot.
You need to:
- open the custom rom and extract boot.img
- flash the custom rom by the usual way
- flash boot.img manually using fastboot (look for instructions here in xda)
- and....
- ...
- wait for it...
- ...
- search first before you start a new thread. This has been answered many times here in this sub-forum.
Cheers
Or at least look in the index (see the last link at end of my Sig) this is covered by one of the guides

Hi!
I just flashed CyanogenMod 7.1 ROM, and then flashed it's boot.img with "fastboot flash boot" and that worked well! But i did'n like that rom, so i restored Hyperion ROM in cwm recorvery and it did stuck on the htc -logo. I thought that may be the CyanogenMod boot images fault, and i flashed Hyperions boot image and then it booted normally!
So, until I get my phone S-Off(now unlocked via htcdev) do I need always flash a new boot image if I dont come from ROM wich have same kernel that the ROM what I'm flashing?
Sorry for my english!

[Q] Boot Loop after ICS Rom Update

Ok so I was running the ICS version of InsertCoin 4.3.0 which I flashed via CWM. I decided to install 4ext but had not used it to flash a rom yet. Today I downloaded the NEWEST version of InsertCoin 4.3.2 and tried to install it with 4EXT, at which point I was stuck in a boot loop. (I did upgrade the firmware according to the thread) Now EVERY rom I try to flash gives me a boot loop. I noticed on my bootloaded screen it says LOCKED at the top.
WHAT IS GOING ON?!

Hi,
Did you delete the PG58IMG.zip from your sd card after it flashed the firmware?
Probably pg58 file its says locked but just ignore that its unlocked, if it's not the pg58 try again do a full wipe with 4ext and reflash rom

I had to remove my sd card and delete it via my computer...bam worked fine after that
I have the same problem but cannot get into the recovey modus...
If i try to get into it, in first it shows a green circle and then a red marking and it stops...
A factory reset doesnt work either...First it shows it is loading data but then it starts looping again...
I had ICS RUU installed...
HBOOT 1.23.0000
This Noob is a bit stuck
maybe you have to flash new firmware 3.24?

You have to flash the lastest firmware (HERE)
If you still have the bootloop, put your SD card in your pc and delete the PG58IMG (that's the firmware). Put the SD card back in your phone go to recovery mode and flash the rom.
That's how I did it.
But it looks like it has overwritten the recovery tool...?
Try to flash this, maybe this will help ;-)
what hboot do you have? 1.23? or 1.27?
The .23.
I have started it in USB boot and was able to start the RUU from my laptop and installed it again... pffff at last i got it working on the latest test release again but cannot enter de recovery tool anymore...
The .27 version...
The RUU does work now but when i try to get in the recoverymode it stops so i quess the instalation has messed up the recovery mode...

I had the same problem. Solved it by installing a compatible (to the new firmware) rom, like InsertCoin 4.3.2. So, the procedure is:
1. Install firmware by putting PG58IMG.zip on root of sd card
2. remove PG58IMG.zip from root of sd card (otherwise it wopnt let you get to the menu to install zip from sd)
3. install InsertCoin 4.3.2 from sd card
Me too
Hey guys,
I'm having the same problem after flashing the new firmware.
The phone shows it updated to 1.27 but it still either bootloops or stays stuck
on thye white htc screen ...
i've tried removing the pg58img.zip, 4ext wipe, restoring my back up, and flashing back to the 1.17 fw but none of it seems to work.
Am i missing a step?
At this point i'd like to just get it back to Gingerbread and my old rom.
Can any one help?
Thanks in advance...

Help! Rooted and wiped data, but rom will not install.

So here's my story...
I unlocked the boot loader of my Sensation 4G, installed CWM recovery, and then flashed the SU zip file to root it.
I did a root check and it conformed that it was rooted.
I also installed Busybox.
After I rooted, I downloaded a few ROMs to try.
I downloaded the Viper ROM and ExtremeSensation ROM.
I dropped both ROM zips onto my SD card.
I then booted into CWM recovery to flash a new ROM to my Sensation.
I backed up my phone before attempting anything via CWM.
After backing up, I selected to install zip from SD and started to install the ROM.
I first tried the Viper ROM (latest).
It went through the install process and then booted.
It then got stuck on the boot screen.
I waited about 20 minutes and then gave up.
I did a full reset again, deleted cache and Dalvik.
I then installed the ROM again.
Once again... stuck on boot animation screen.
I then tried to install the ExtremeSensation ROM. (Its based on CM9)
I did the same procedure and deleted everything and installed the ROM.
It got to the boot screen animation and it stayed stuck on the boot screen animation for over 20 minutes.
It seemed like nothing would install.
I didnt realize that I had to make my Sensation "S-off"... it is still "S-on".
Now I am stuck with no ROMS.
I tried to install a stock rom. It is the 3.33.401.6 ROM.
When I try to install it, the installation aborts. Everytime.
I tried to restore my backup, but it says the MD5 checksum is invalid... looks like my only backup is corrupt.
What can I do to save my phone?
Any help would be SUPER appreciated!
Thanks!

When installing new Custom ROMs you should SuperWipe before installing the new ROM. You can find the SuperWipe script in the ARHD thread. Just install zip from SDcard through CWM.
In the Download section of the OP from:

Yes, S-OFF is a very good thing to have. I assume you have gone through the HTC Dev unlocking tool. There are a few guides on S-OFFing 1.2x.0000 HBOOT phones.
I had a similar issue with MD5 problems when trying to do a CWM recovery. Have you renamed the backup folder, if so you CANNOT have spaces in the new name. Renaming is fine just no spaces. If that's not the problem then sorry I don't know.
i had S-ON and HBoot 1.27.xxx.xxx, and i flashed android revolution, there is a good tutorial on how to flash with s-on

[Q] Boot loops after flashing ANY rom

I have S3 right here and I tried flashing Trickdroid ICS, JB as well as JellyBean Official TWRP zip.
It is S-ON, so after flashing the zip, I go to fastboot and flash boot.img.
I did it already 2-3 times with every rom, but every time I get boot loop. Phone restarts as soon as the first HTC logo disappears.
What is wrong with that?
Do you have the latest TWRP 2.4.1.0 ? (did you try reflashing your recovery?)
What android did you have before unlocking your bootloader? 4.0.3 or 4.0.4?
(and don`t panic If nothing works there is always a solution by relocking your phone and flash the ruu for your phone from here)

What's was you on before flashing a custom rom? because just a guess but I think it was 4.0.3 if that is so then try TrickDroid for S3 and get v3 which is 4.0.3 so should work.
It was stock, but I didn't check the version before flashing.
So, TD 3.0, then TD 5.0 and it will work?
By the way, what is better? TD 5.0 or JellyBean Official TWRP?

No only v3 but if you can get an RUU thats more up to date then do that and the v4/5 should work.
So you didn't install a custom kernal before

Em what he said he did.
You cannot flash S4 roms with an S3 phone, have you made sure that the Roms you flash are specifically assigned for S3? Cuz most are S4
Thanks, guys. That was HBOOT problem. I flashed latest RUU and then I was able to use JB roms.
I am terribly sorry to bump this thread but it is EXACTLY what I need. I read through it and am slightly confused with what you guys said.
Here's my situation:
I have a HTC Evo 3D and have tried running multiple ROMs and on every ROM I run into a boot loop. I use TWRP 2.2.0 and boot that onto my phone using the code "Fastboot boot twrp-shooter.img", then from there I go into TWRP and add the ROM to the root of my SDcard. Then I use TWRP to wipe my cache, delvik cache, system, and do a factory reset. Then I go to install from SDcard and install my desired ROM that I am trying. It is successful and when I reboot it shows the HTC logo, then the loading screen for the ROM, then it goes black, then back to the HTC logo and it continues to loop the same booting sequence over and over.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there something different that I should use or do?
I've been trying to figure out this issue for more than 36 hours and I am borderline psycho right now, I really need answers!

1. check if you are s-on or s-off. If you are s-on, you will also need to flash the kernel (boot.img) from a computer (after you flash the zip)
2. make sure your rom is compatible with your phone

Reflash the Rom with smartflash.
If this doesn't work do a nand bacjup, then full wipe except sdcard, reflash the Rom with smartflash

It could be a problem with firmware. You seem to be using Gb firmware. As you're S-on so it's not possible for you to flash firmware directly. You can try going back stock and update to ICS OTA.
