[Q] Google Play & Google Talk connection problems after FW update to v9.4.2.21 - General Questions and Answers

Dear friends,
This morning I upgraded my Asus Transformer Prime TF201 running ICS v4.0.3 to the new firmware version v9.4.2.21 and since I'm experiencing the following problems:
- the google play application no longer has connection. The message displayed is:
No connection
Retry
- the google talk application also has no connection. The message displayed is:
Connection interrupted - Status updates temporarily unavailable.
I would like to specify that I powered the device off and then on again and still no luck. I use a WiFi connection via a router and I even reset the router but again - unsuccessfully. I checked the login credentials for both applications (Google Play and Google Talk) and they are correct. The other applications requiring connections (i.e. internet browser, yahoo messenger) seem to work fine.
Looking forward to your opinion as this problem becomes increasingly frustrating.
Thank you very much.

[Q] Server search on Gmail doesn't work - says "can't connect"

I added the GMail account through Google option (haven't tried the POP and IMAP).
It syncs fine, but it doesn't do a server search. Whenever I try it, it returns an error saying that it can't connect to the network.
Anyone knows how to fix it?
P.S. And how come there is not even an option to do server search for Hotmail?
Additional data:
- I'm using Samsung Focus with Mango
- device is unlocked, but branded to AT&T (not sure if it has anything to do with Gmail)
- tried both on 3G and WiFi
Thanks!

I have the same problem. It was present in 7712 and still is in the retail release of 7720. I also have a Samsung Focus, but I doubt that is the cause. I'm considering deleting the Google account from the phone and adding it back, but I hate to have to relink all of the contacts whose names are different from Facebook. Considering how Google has blocked non-primary calendars for Windows Phone and their event/invitation implementation is somewhat broken with Windows Phone, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that server search is also a broken feature, whether intentional or not. Has anyone had any success re-creating the Google account on the phone?
i've noticed the same problem! I hope this is just an issue of me just setting up my account wrong

this is seriously annoying
I guess gmail wants us to go android, but I won't. I'm going to add another email account and suffer through. Fortunately for me I don't have a lot of important contacts with gmail.
I reported this to Microsoft a few weeks ago, and they are aware of the issue. I'm thinking it must be on Google's side. When labels come to Hotmail, I may just switch over entirely.

N5/Lollipop account setup = Sorry google doesn't recognize that email

Hi,
today I installed the factory image of lollipop on my n5. When I try to set up my second google app account I got the error: "Sorry google doesn't recognize that email"
My main google app account works fine, but my second not. The bad thing is, that I use my second account for buying apps at the play store for years.
The account worked fine at 4.4.4 and is still running on my n10 with 4.4.4.
I can use it with play.google.com, g+ .... but not on the phone.
Does someone have an idea?
bye,
Clou

Hi,
I'm afraid I can't offer a solution, but when I try to add my secondary email to my N5 on lolliopop I get the message "email address and password do not match".
It's not a big deal for me at the moment as I can log in to gmail on the Chrome app (incognito saves signing out ) so not too fussed about adding it as a " user".
Just thought I'd share that I'm experiencing the same issue.

For the moment I solved my problem that way:
Install 4.4.4 Factory Image
Setup both Google Apps accounts
Install the Sideload Update (LRX21O-from-KTU84P)
Now I have both accounts working under 5.0
Maybe is not the same problem but I couldn't setup my email because was saying I can't access to Internet trough my email... LOL
No idea why.
I entered in Gmail allow devices and applications.
I desactivate my email app and device_ allow acces_, whatever and the entering again in my email in the nexus5, I could setup up my Google account and email.
Maybe you can play with those options Good luck.

[Q] How does install from browser work?

We all know, Google Play Store offers us a unique (and quite user-friendly in my opinion) feature of installing an app from the browser of your computer. All we got to do is login to your PC's browser using your GMAIL account, access play.google.com/store, search for a the app there and click on Install.
Behind the scenes, Google somehow finds out the device which has the same Google account registered and the download gets started on this device!
I would like to know all that happens 'behind the scenes' and all the related APIs.
[Note: Tried to search for a similar question but couldn't find one. If there exists, please let me know the link to it]
Thanks in advance!

Actually, on a computer, when you are logged in to Gmail account, and click Install on an app, Google installs it automatically on your phone.
This actually works because of the app so called "Google Play Services" (if you had noticed), which manually triggers Play Store to download that app.
As soon as your phone (connected to Play Store with same Gmail ID as on PC) is connected to internet, the app you wished to install would automatically install (which you had clicked "Install" on PC)
So this is how it works. Hope you get it

Thanks! It does make sense! But I am looking for a more fine-grained answer. Let me put it in more detail:
1. I click on Install button on my computer. Now, in some way, Google needs to send across this info to my device (probably the package info app that needs to be installed).
2. Assuming that Google might be storing some kind of device id in their database, is it that there is some process in GPlayServices that is continuously pinging Google servers to find out whether there is any new app request registered? If yes, I would love to know the details of this process!

I think it's more like a packet of data info that Google sends to Play Services in phone (if connected to network, else retry after set_frequency) to trigger execution, rather than continuously pinging for checking updates.
If you're so curious to know, here's the source list for Google Play Services API: https://developer.android.com/reference/gms-packages.html
If you quite know Java, you can understand the packages and classes in it and trace the way it does it
(I don't have the patience for this )
Thanks

[Completed] Unable to signin to Google playstore after all efforts

Hey fellows,
I don't know whether I should be here or not?
I don't know whether I belong to this community or not?
I have come here as a last resort.
But I would be glad and grateful if you guys could help me with my problem.
My android device: Coolpad Dazen1
History of my Problem: I bought the device on Snapdeal. I already have one Samsung Galaxy S4. So I was quite acquainted with the Android OS. I started the device properly and registered a gmail account. Connected to the wifi. And could browse the internet.
However I could not sign-in to the Google playstore. It keeps saying
"Check your connection and try again. Retry" And if I press the Retry option it keeps on saying the same thing.
Other associated problems: Though I can browse the internet, I can't login to any email accounts. I can't use any Google services. However, I can logon to my gmail accounts & Google playstore on my laptop.
The remedial measures I took:
I cleared the Google playstore cache
I deleted the Host file
I reset the phone
Tried different email accounts new & old
I installed another browser, firefox, and tried to signin to the Google Playstore but with no use
I contacted the Google Services and discussed the problem with the technical expert. The person said, even after all these measures, if the problem persists, then it is not the problem with the Google Services. The problem is there in the device, so contact the device services.
When I contacted the Device services. The person said; since the device is connecting properly to the internet, the problem is not in the device or the OS. The problem is with the Google services.
I have come here with the hope that you knowledgeable persons could help me out of this situation.
I would appreciate and be grateful for any help extended.
Thank you
Anil
