Android Version; 2.3.4
HTC Sense Version; 3.0
Software number; 1.50.162.2
Smallband version; 10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M
The phone is S-Off (Revolutionary) but still has stockrom.
Superuser is installed (can not uninstall it).
No i would like to install the OTA update i received from HTC/Vodafone;
3.32.162.11 (302.59MB) - Android 4.0
When downloaded, the phone is preparing to install and restarts.
For a second i see the progressbar and than i only see a droid with an warning sign.
Why can't i install the update?
Please help me.
I have been reading forums for 4 day's and tried things like recovery software, but it did not work.
I am a noob, so please make it in easy language!
Thanks a lot!!!
I'm not sure about the Sensation, but on the Desire when you S-OFF with alpharev, your new hboot is protected. To fix this you have to install an unprotected hboot.

Thanks!
Frank
Firstly and most importantly if you have Su installed you are rooted you can not install ota updates whilst you have a rooted handset
The only thing you can do is download the official stock European ruu here
http://db.tt/OWcAvh1S
Follow this thread to change your cid to unbranded one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16140388
Connect your phone to your pc make sure USB debugging is enabled and follow the on screen instructions this will remove root from your phone but it will remain S-off
Once installed you can check for updates and install ICS

At the OP, do you have the stock recovery or a custom recovery lime Clockwork Mod Recovery? If you have a custom recovery then tho sis why you can not install the official update. You must have the stock recovery.

Frank, so you have S-OFF and are rooted but still on a stock ROM. Do you have a custom recovery installed, like ClockworkMod or 4EXT? If you do, then you need to go back to stock recovery in order to be able to install OTA updates.
You also havent mentioned if you are receiving any error/warning messages during installation of the update. Knowing what you're seeing on the screen could help in determining a specific course of action.
Hi Guys!
I have installed a unbranded (stock) Rom and after that my Sensation didn't find ICS OTA.
So i downloaded the ICS Rom from XDA and installed.
So i'm on ICS now, but will not receive stock updates OTA.
And not on my stock rom, because i didn't make a backup
Thanks all!

You can download the official RUU of the stock ROM for your Sensation and then connect your Sensation to your computer and run the RUU. Go to here to download the RUU. I suggest you download the one that says " RUU_Pyramid_Vodafone_IT_1.45.165.1_Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.0" as it looks like it is the most recent RUU. You will probably have to do a OTA to get back to the 1.50.162.2 ROM you was on. Remember this though the RUU will make your Sensation S-on again so you will have to S-off your Sensation again after you have installed the OTA back to the 1.50.162.2 ROM. If you do not and you flash the ICS OTA then it will change your Hboot and Revelutionary is not compatible with that Hboot yet.
Edit: If the RUU I suggested is not the right region for you, I think it is for Italy, then look at the other four Vodafone RUUs. Two of them are for France, one is for Germany, and one is for the UK. But you may have to do more than one OTA to get back to the 1.50.162.2 ROM so you can get the ICS OTA if you have to use any of those RUUs

I've got a question, my sensation is completly rooted and S-off.
If a new release gets available thrue OTA.
Can I instal this, like I updated the stock device to a newer version?
Thanks
If you have a custom-made ROM you cant get ota unless ota still in the ROM arhd doesn't have that option dont now about other roms,,
And if you can use a ota, you pose root.. and s-off or it has to be in the update

Hi all, apologies if this has been answered elsewhere.
I have a debranded Vodafone Sensation using Revolutionary and then CID change, S-Off, etc.
Is it safe to accept the OTA version of ICS, or better to go the whole hog and wait for the RUU? Is one available?
Thanks in advance.
OTA will be fine, or you can flash the RUU from the Shipped ROMs thread if you don't mind losing your data - it's up to you
If you're going to go down the OTA route, you have to be 100% stock bar the HBOOT to flash it without issues (e.g. not rooted, stock recovery)
Hi Eddy, thanks for the response.
I just did the necessary in order to debrand and unlock the phone to accept the Gingerbread stock RUU, I presume I would be OK with the OTA, or would you recommend the RUU?
Hi Eddy
I have received the OTA notification for the latest ICS update, but I am confused- I'm still S-off, hboot 1.18; should I not have received this update?
I think I would prefer to start again with an RUU executable programme to wipe the phone- is such a thing available yet?
Many thanks.
The 3.32.401.5 RUU is in the Shipped ROMs thread if you want it. OTA is fine if you're 100% stock but with S-OFF

Bought a Htc sensation cheap the other day as it was having a few problem. Its been rooted and as a custom ICS rom it stalled but the problems it's having is it keeps crashing, sometimes keeps looping [as in wont come on] and the battery sometimes only last about 5 hours. Is there a nooby easy easy guide to downgrade it back to Gingerbread but keep rooted

When upgrading to ICS you need to update your firmware. There's a thread by mike1986 that'll help you. You can find it in developer thread.

Yes, you need a newer firmware that's running ICS correctly.
It as been updated to the latest firmware to run ICS but the lad I bought it off said then's when all the problems began. So I was thinking of trying to downgrading it back to gingerbread [stock or custom rom] to see if that would sort the problems out

Have you installed a Custom Firmware or a Stock-Rom from ICS?
What firmware has you installed yet?
it was already rooted with a custom ISC rom installed So it came straight from a stock gingerbread rom to a custom ISC rom
Hello Freddy!
Have you tried to install another custom rom or re-install the one you already have? My guess is that it's not ICS that's messing with you but rather the ROM/firmware is. My tip for a rom is Ordroid (You can find it in the developer section of the sensation forum).
I don't know how experienced you are with rooting/flashing roms etc but when you go from one ROM to the other it's recommended to format the different partions (except SD-card).
Also here is a thread about different firmwares and how to install them if you don't want to change rom and just try a different firmware to see if it gets any better
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
Here you have an all-in-one thread linking to different guides and fixthreads etc as well

How do you know if your downloading the right firmware [Unlocked UK sensation]
You can also download the latest ICS RUU. Then you will be completely stock, with the correct firmware. from there you can always try custom roms If you don't like the stock ones.
You can find the RUU's in the Pyramid Shipped Roms thread in de developers section

Hi
I decided to try and restore it to stock gingerbread rom put am not sure what rom and firmware I will need
You van download the RUU in the Shipped roms thread, If you run the RUU then everything will be installeren, firmware, radio, rom etc.
You can find the thread in the developers section. For europe you need the RUU with RUU_PYRAMID_1.50.401.2 in it's file name.

usually
go to the development section of htc sensation and look for virtuous or another ics and inside that same post, they will tell you which pyramid you can install, for your cellphone,
Flash a stock GB RUU so you will be putting the phone back to out of the box. Then start fresh reading all the tutorials available
am not sure which one i would need though
http://db.tt/1vf53aOI
This is a link for the 1.45 europe RUU. You can update it OTA to 1.50 to get the latest Gingerbread rom. Make sure you have the correct CID either HTC__001 or superCID.
If you want to flash the stock ICS rom then here's the RUU for that: http://db.tt/KLhJSmgk

CID... Is carrier identification.. It is to identify which model is linked to which carrier or whether it is unbranded.
A device with a particular cid.. Only receives update from that carrier only. (eg recently TMOBILE US ppl got ics)
If your cid is HTC__001 then your phone is Europe unbranded (not linked to any carrier) one
Now supercid is a unique cid (11111111)
That lifts carriers restrictions.. If you got supercid you can install official rom's (RUU) of any carrier and any country
Sent from my pyramid.. Through blazing fast sonic waves
Its unlocked to work with any network Is the supercid part of the rooting process

Hi,
Are you s-off?
You are on Ginger Bread.
In order to upgrade you need to change the firmware, for which you need to be s-off.
Go HERE
When you get to the recovery step, use THIS ONE
Then,follow THIS GUIDE
All the stages require a lot of reading and understanding.
All the guides are set out in order.
Do not miss any steps.
Read,then,read it again
I'm assuming you are fully S-OFF.
Do you happen to know your CID at the moment ? If you have the Android SDK and the HTC drivers loaded. Find fastboot and type "fastboot getvar cid". You could SuperCID, i.e. change it to "11111111" then any RUU can be installed. Do you have the option in "About Phone" (sorry can't remember where under that) to update via OTA ?
If you want stock HTC Sense just get a RUU 3.32 or 3.33. Otherwise there are a s**t load of ICS custom ROMs available.
thanx for replying back

I had a quick look at the link and it seemed to have what you need for ICS to work (in.c BT and WiFi). Skype, VOIP etc are ROM/App dependant.
However, NOTE that when you install the new firmware your existing GB ROM will in all probability fail to work.
SO get a target ICS ROM to load up immediately after applying the firmware update.

Hi,
The firmware does not make those things work.
You mean the ROM.
And ,yes, they all work with that ROM.
But ,first you must update the firmware.
Follow joaquinf's guide that I gave you,and you will be fine.

Why you don't simply revert to original cid, flash stock recovery and then check for Ota update from your device?
After update (I think you will receive at least 3 ota update till latest ICS 3.33), you can flash again a custom recovery (CWM or 4EXT) and re-root.
Very easy.
No major issues with latest update to ICS, for me at least.
Cheers.

Hello, I would like to ask a question regarding the Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread OTA update. Before I update my new HTC Desire S to Android 4.0 via RUU, I would like to update my phone to 2.3.5 first. I have done a bit of installation of apps and contacts, and I am scared that the OTA update will wipe my phone. Will the OTA update wipe my phone? I know that when installing RUUs, the phone will be completely wiped, but I am not sure with OTAs, because I've never done a OTA update before.

No
And a friendly suggestion: if you want ICS better S-OFF and use a custom ROM rather the buggy ICS RUU. This will keep the option to return to a warranty state if needed

Ok, thanks. To install a custom ROM I need to S-Off and root right?
