Hi all,
A week ago I bought a brand new Desire S and installed latest CM 7.1 stable following the guide on cyanogemod Desire S Wiki using revolutionary 0.4pre4. Everything was smooth and nice, I flashed ROM and GAPPS and my phone is working absolutely perfectly... but there is one little problem...
I am using Desire to fetch my mails from 2 mailservers using IMAP every 30 mins. But when the phone is switching between network modes i.e. HSDPA -> EDGE or EDGE -> GSM or any other way, I am disconnected from operator network for about 10 seconds until the network mode changes and everything is fine after that, until there is another network mode switch.
This happens for me about 10 times a day, so my phone sometimes appears that It is turned off for people who want to call me. Immediately after connecting to network I get a missed call SMS from my operator.
Interesting thing is, that when I disable email fetching, disable background data transfer and disable network data, the phone works fine without "blackouts".
Can someone help me with this problem? Maybe a radio issue?
Some more info:
ROM: Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 Desire S
Recovery: Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4
HBOOT: 6.98.1002
Kernel: 2.6.35.14-cyanogenmod+ [email protected] #1
Radio: 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M
There is a newer radio-file online.
Maybe it's solving your problem.
I'm using MIUI and never had such problems, but i'm interested in flashing CM, so please report if the problem is gone by flashing newer radio!
Which radio version are you using?
Today I am testing 2G only switch so I am on EDGE data only.
Flashing radios is safe......, but a bad radio flash will instantly brick your phone.
You are using 1.47.401.4 radio, try updating to the 2.10.401.5 one.
Thanks for reply.
Shoud I flash something else with the radio?
I have 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 downloaded from cmw.22aaf3.com
Another I have is ftom OTA update zip file OTA_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.8-1.47.401.4_release_225210fmxlt12djw1sr7y5.zip where is one radio.img in formware.zip file too - version unknown
So Which one to flash?
and if so, which method should I use to flash radio? The Android SDK one or the ZIP + Bootloader one?

Both will work, i'm using method by using bootloader normaly
Strangely I had the same issues as you on Endymion.
Then I updated radio to the latest.
It worked well.
Then I went to CM7. It was fine for a while, but now I'm losing signal with no 3G bars and its not switching automatically to 2G like it should when It has no 3G signal!
EDIT:
After really reading your post, I realise my issue is no way like yours! Yours seems really bad. Update your radio.

in your telephone-info there is shown the new radio after every flash?
do you have removed the batterycover, because there is integrated the antenna of your device!

No, the cover is at its place where it should be. Somehow I did the trick and I am back online with 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03 on 2G only for now.
I read somwhere in the forum that ENG HBOOT is required for new radios... Are you sure I dont need to flash eng hboot it before new radio ??

in your area 3g is actually available?
may it helps to go outside, to find your net for the first time!
did you set an accesspoint for 3g?
may you have to set automatic settings, rather than 3g/2g-only?!

using same hboot as you, never had problems on flashing radio-files!
yes, in my area there is 3g, when I turn off 2g only switch there is a problem described in my first post, so i am on 2g for now just to keep phone connected to network.
main problem is when i am driving and the phone is switching network modes.
so I give 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 today another chance, try to flash if again.
but i am woried about stucking on HTC logo after flash :-( and brick it.

i already had the problem for several times, and i also pulled out the battery (you shouldn't do that)!
only had to boot into bootloader, start recovery, wipe all partitions, flash rom and was having fun again with my device
this thread could help you, if really stuck on HTC logo
For your real problem on loosing the signal, did you ever tried out using actual stock rom, or another custom one like MIUI?
i used MIUI from 2010-08 till yesterday, now trying out CM7.1 for some days
I have the same or a very similar problem. I have the stock rom.
I already had 3 different desire s motherboard's and 2 different display's.
The first Desire S i had, with android 2.3.3, had a excellent signal. Due some problems i had, the phone bricked and had to go to HTC to repair.
HTC replaced the motherboard and update the version of the android to 2.3.5 and ever since the signal caption, the signal switch was working very bad.
The phone went to a second repair because of this, new phone, and again with android 2.3.5. The problems persisted.
I also tested with different SIM cards, from different mobile operators.
So, my conclusion is either android 2.3.5 or this new versions of Desire S have problems with signal caption and signal switch.
So as you, i need some help with this issue!

But when I reboot to recovery it will flash the radio again I think.
i hate stock roms, and dont like MIUI design That is why I am using Cyanogen
Anyway if I use 2G only switch, the phone is stable as rock both calls and data transfer.
EDIT: OK, flashed 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 sucessfully, signal OK, I will see what happens whet metwork mode switches
@Green Hawk:
give us more information about your device please, which radio you're using? Did they flash actual radion also?
@MyroLM:
report if the problem is still there or it's gone with flashing the rom
I am still testing new radio, but looks good Give me some days let you know...
Hi All,
I have a similar problem with the latest CM7.1 nightly builds (Reaper, jorgen2009). I never saw this with older CM7.1 versions, e.g. Nexx version, ICS, MIUI oder Endymion.
I have WLAN on and leave my house. Phone switches to 2G/3G..., so far so good. When I return home, The WLan sign in the status bar appears again, everything seems to be fine, but I have no connection. I get no data via WLan until I swicth WLan off and on again.
Radio is the latest from 2.10.401.5.
Best Regards
Wrapp
Had similar problems, upgrading to the latest radio helped. I got stuck on the HTC screen and I went through flashing RUU's and unlocking bootloaders back and forth... when the only thing that needs to be done is to wipe the cache.
Learned a lot about bootloaders though. But my warranty got void because i did the htcdev unlock... (Sorry for OT)
So I got myself a Desire S.
Problem is, everytime I switch the WIFI toggle to ON, it would say
"Turning On..."
for a little bit, then It would say "Error", and everytime I try to toggle the BLUETOOTH to ON, it would say the same and just returns to "OFF" position.
Status of the phone before rooting and flashing:
"LOCKED"
SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT: 2.000.20
Radio: .....10.08.04_M
I tried flashing several ROMS including the Kernel(BOOT.IMG) via Fastboot;
Virtous Quattro RC3
Reaper V3
IceColdSandwich 7.5
CM7.1 NIGHTLY
also tried flashing to stock RUU with Radio and HBOOT versions;
Gingerbread 2.3.3 --> Europe and Asia Versions
Gingerbread 2.3.5 --> Europe, Asia, India Versions
Currently on Stock Gingerbread 2.3.5 Rooted through Superoneclick
Until now the issue persists. I'm wifi and bluetooth less.
I've tried searching Google, found some "USB-BRICK" topic on the DESIRE forum, didn't work.
Motorola forum, mentioned a reflash of the Radio.
HTCDesireSForum mentioned a reflash of HBOOT and Radio.
Here in XDA, it mentions that in flashing ROMS, on HBOOT 2.00.20 you have to flash BOOT.IMG from the zip file of the rom via Fastboot.
Tried and failed. I'm beginning to think this is a hardware issue.
Anyone with an idea why or to a solution?
nobody? I haven't found any solutions so far. I really hope someone could help or atleast point me in the right direction
Any updates on your issue?
Have you tried bringing it in to service centers? It looks like a hardware problem.
your issue should just revolve around changing hboot, radio and rom.. I cant think of anything that could affect those hardware..

unfortunately no. I didn't give it anymore thought since I'm using it only for camera and music.
Have you tried the latest radio.. I think its worth a try..
Flash hboot of your choice and the latest radio and stable Rom choice.
I really don't think these hardware break that easily..

I'm not sure about the bluetooth, but I may have a fix for the WiFi.
I have a One S and I started getting the same error when I tried to turn on the WiFi. It turned out that my wpa_supplicant.conf file became corrupt somehow. I just deleted /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf and it fixed the problem.
Wifi problem
Dear XDA!
I'm a new member in here. I downloaded softwers from here. It's working correctly. Yesterday I upload the Fallout 4.3 software then the wifi connection is failed. I try another software Nik Project X and the problem was the same.

Open your own thread. Don't jump on the end of someone else's thread unless you are contributing or you have exactly the same issue - which you don't.
I just flashed for the first time and everything seemed fine,
till (after flashing the Gapps) I noticed my phone won't connect to a mobile network.
WiFi is working, only Mobile Network is defunct.
I tried two different SIMs, both worked on other devices but not on this.
I may be wrong, but I don't think a locked SIM is my problem, since I don't see any SIM-with-an-exclamation icon icon as described in other posts.
Detailed Description:
Lock-screen shows the text "(No Service)".
When trying to search for a network in Settings > Mobile Networks > Network Operators, it says "Error while searching for networks".
Additional Info:
Device: LG P-500.
Flashing toolchain: Gingerbreak; ROM Manager + CWM.
Flashed: Stable CM7.2 from CM's site;
Gapps from Goo.im.
Baseband: P500-M76XX-V10f-FEB-18-2011-XX.
(Taken by LGMDP AFTER flashing to CM7)
P.S. Before posting I looked for similar posts, but could only find ones dealing with the New Baseband (e.g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...&highlight=error+while+searching+for+networks). As I have the Old Baseband and CM7.2 requires the Old Baseband (so it seems), they seemed irrelevant.
Thanks in advance!
Cm needs new baseband. There's your problem.
As a substitute, chech the cm7.2 development thread in the original work category. The first post provides a temporarely fix.

Mine got strange problem:
After flashing ROM PowerGB X 1.0, everything works fine (sms receive & send, Internet via mobile / Wifi, calling outside) but only one problem, I cannot receive call! When I call from outside to my P500 no, the network always says busy or I've requested to block my phone from outside.
I've check all settings regarding call blocking, but all is normal.
Thanks, thatnextdoorboy!
I've updated to the new baseband (using the LGMDP guide) and it now works great!
I think that this guide is a bit unclear, reading it it seems that only CM7.2 Nightlies require the new, while the Stable version doesn't.
Thanks again! (You're actually pretty nice to newbies around here...)
I have been using an ICS ROM (PrimoS v4.1) on my Desire S for some time with no problems, but recently have tried flashing a number of JB ROMs (e.g Andromadus, CM10 and JellyTime). I have found that when using any of these JB ROM's, I am unable to get a data connection and the APN list is blank. Despite many attempts to add APNs manually or by use of APN backup apps, I have failed to add an APN to the list.
Do I need to update the radio to solve this problem? I never did this when going from original HTC Gingerbread to the ICS ROM.
Please excuse the ignorance on this subject. I've read somewhere that there is a danger of bricking the phone when flashing radios, hence my reluctance to try without good reason!
I live in the UK and use Virgin Mobile.
Current radio is: 20.281.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M
All help appreciated - I've had a tantalising glimpse of the wonders of Jelly Bean and I'm desperate to get my data connection working!
TIA
I can't say whether changing radios will fix your problem. I use Radio 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 on CM10 and have no problems.

Thanks for the reply BillGoss.
I took the plunge and updated my Radio to 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 with no problems. My phone continues to work fine with the PrimoS (ICS) ROM, but when I flashed JellyTime, still no APN's and I was unable to create one, hence I can't connect to the 3G network. D'oh!
Correct me if I'm wrong but with ICS you don't have the probelm and with JB you have the problem
that you have no and can not set the APN values, Q, dit you have a clean ROM installed.
I had this problem once when I tested a ICS version with sence 4. Later when I installed a CM10 version
I had no APN so I did a factory reset an de problem was gone. To be sure I wiped al the data on my device
and restored a earlyer nandroid backup. Later I tested a lote of ROMS but so far I don't have the APN issue yet.

Yes HypnoCondor, I always do a full wipe before flashing the ROM. I've now done a ot of Googling and trawling XDA threads and have found that the issue seems to be confined to CyanogenMod-based ROMS, not specifically CM10 and covering a lot of different phones. I'm not techie enough to fully understand, but it seems that CM is not registering the SIM card properly and hence the APN list is always blank and can't be edited/saved manually.
What's particualrly confusing is that I recently flashed the CM10-based CyanogenMod 10 Beta Builds [4.1.2][ANDROMADUS 3.x][Frontcam] ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776256) and much to my surprise it worked! My APN list was populated and all was fine. Unfortunately , after rebooting the phone, the APN's were gone and I've been unable to get them back, despite trying every trick in the book gleaned from XDA users with similar problems.
This is very frustrating, because I really love this ROM
Looks like I'll end up going back to the PrimoS (non-CM, ICS) ROM so that I can get my data connection back when I'm away from WiFi. That's a real bummer, but I'm damned if I've been able to find a fix for this issue.
Just for future reference: being unable to set APN has nothing to do with radio and has everything to do with the ROM you're using. But you've already found that out yourself.

Hi there,
Everything was working just fine, but since I switched to a new carrier I can't get the network back as soon as my OP looses it (subway for example). I have 4G as my favorite internet mode and my APNs are good.
Only a full reboot fixes it, not even a soft one. What can I do?
I use the lastest CM 12.1 S rom (YOG4PAS3JL)
Maybe I should try to flash Oxygen's modem? http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...dio-updated-modem-radio-files-oxygen-t3072516
It seems many users are affected by the problem but I didn't find a real solution, hence my post.
Thank you!
After a long investigation, it seems that the OPO is having trouble switching for and from 4G. I solved it using 3G as my preferred network, but I'd have loved using 4G
reinstall the system... u can google fastboot images for opo... flash them through CMD
I've tried 3 ROMS and at least 4 modems so I think I've tried eveything that's available atm
I have had the same problem for some time now. But no reliable solutions found. Have tried various versions of ROM and Radio. Currently using 44S and CM 12.1 S (YOG4PAS3JL).

Didn't fix the problem. Finally reverted back to Oxygen OS. Complete reinstall, including bootloader, storage, everything. Got it done at OPO service centre. Much better reception now.
