[Q] Erasing data / Factory reset - Milestone XT720 General

Because of messed up data , I want to erase all the data in my phone and start with a fresh rom ( CM6 ) . I wonder if I just have to factory reset in OR , or I need to flash again my current rom . What about my current theme and gapps (Do I have to flash those again ) ? Can anyone tell me the correct steps if I want to remain on the same rom , same theme and gapps , but with all data erased ?
BTW , what is the advantages of ext4 against ext2 ( I use link2sd ) ?

Factory reset is almost enough. The only part that doesn't do is remove apps that are on the ext partition. I haven't used link2sd in a while, but it may have some mechanism to save data on ext now, too. That also won't be affected by factory reset.
ext3 and ext4 are journaled filesystems. Suppesedly they won't get corrupted as easily by kernel crashes, sudden reboots, battery pulls, etc.

What about gapps ? Don't need to flash as well ?

No need to re flash gapps (or your theme) after a factory data reset.

Many thanks , Mioze7Ae and 3rdstring

[Q] HTC Explorer Booting Issue

I am having a HTC Explorer... I have unlocked the bootloader and have rooted my phone. I have CWM Recovery installed.. I treid installing custom ROM, but after installing once I reboot, it keeps showing the custom ROM's animated loading screen and never proceeds forward. I have tried 4 different custom ROM's and also tried to install Stock ROM but same happens.
During installation I don't get any sort of error. But once I reboot the phone it is stuck on the loading animation. I have already tried formatting data, clearing partition cache and clearing dalvik cache...
Can any one help regarding this issue.. ?
P.S: I don't have any backup..I know I should have backed up...but still...

Firstly specify which which roms you tried which recovery you are using.
Well to say..
If you are using sense based Roms.. Then ext partition is needed.. Which can be done in recovery- Advanced- Partition sd card..
Partitioning sd card will format your card so take a backup of it
If you are using sense based roms then use recovery which mounts ext Like TWRP or Philz or CWM Latest one..
If not a sense based rom:
1. Go to recovery
2. Wipe data/factory reset.
3. Wipe cache partition.
4. Advanced -> Wipe dalvich cache.
5. Mounts and storage -> format /boot, /cache, /system , /sd-ext(if present).
6. Dont format anything else.
7. Install zip -> flash the rom.
8. Reboot
If you are still facing problem PM me..

TWRP V 3 method bug by pass(how to format system and flash new ROM)

Hi!
This method is for that guyz see restart middle of formating system
If u want install 4.4.4 ROM I recommended ext3
******Note: all ur data in phone SD will lost !!!*****
Its very simple
First format data in ext3 (if u see error do this again)
Then format system in ext3
Then cache
Reboot
Install ur ROM
If u see error flashing ROM go format system again
And besure no error left !
If u see goto error source and format
**be careful to don't wipe ex.SD **

Switch rom without wiping internal storage.

I would like to switch from MIUI (xiaomi.eu) to some custom rom. On my previous phone (redmi note 4x) it was possible to switch any rom without formatting internal storage ( factory reset was not needed. wipe system, data, cache was enough). I dont know if i remember it correctly but i think some additional .zip file was needed during installation of new rom. (EDIT: maybe i had some twrp that resolve it without that zip )
BUT now when i try install rom without factory reset twrp show some error codes until i do factory reset
Maybe it has something to do with forced encryption or something? (dm-verity? idk, i do not understand it that much)
Can someone help me, give me some advice?

Bootloop

everytime after flashing castom recovery for my J810GFDDU6CUI1 is stucking on bootloop any solution please ?
which version of castom recovery you use?
try wipe data after flash it
But my stock rom is getting deleted after wipeing data
Wiping data ( read: user space ) never wipes / deletes system ( read: system space ) if correctly done.

I tried it , but still bootloop.
After you've flashed the rom you need to "clear the data and cache" to remove old remnants of stock firmware.
