[Q] HTC Evo 4G LTE - Forum? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I was wondering if the Evo LTE is gonna get a forum of its own, since it is under the Evo brand, not under the one brand.
Then again, they are basically the same, under the hood wise. The At&t version is being placed in the One XL forum. Then again both of those devices are GSM while the evo lte is cdma.
The reason i ask is because i plan on dev'ing on it.
So, my question is, will the Evo 4g LTE get a forum of its own, or will it be placed here?

This isn't the correct place to post about this issue. Of course the EVO 4G LTE will have its own forum. I can guarantee that much. It'll be a big launch this year, and XDA members will be all over it.
Having said that, you'll need to wait until we edge closer to a release date. Right now, rumors are swirling for a June date. That means we're still a bit far off from launch.
I would add that, since the phones aren't the same specs, it will not be included in the One XL forum. There are a plethora of differences that would make a combined section very ugly and disorganized. Have patience and the forum will be created as we near a launch date.

[Q] Android recommendations for ATT

I personally think the HTC Inspire 4G is the best Android device out there on the ATT network, but was curious what the consensus is (if there is one). My son is interested in getting an Android soon and wants to know what the current top model is on ATT. Slightly related, are there any new models coming down the pike for ATT that might be worth waiting for?
Imspire is your best bet. My buddy tried the atrix and ended up with the inspire. Like i told him in the first place.

The problem with the Inspire is that it is year behind. I bought one and ended up giving it to my son. It's not 4G. It's very slow browsing even slower than my Samsung Galaxy S. Also, it has no 2100 MHz band for Europe (if you travel there) and no front facing camera.
I'd wait for something better. I'm waiting for the Infuse which is due out any time.

[Q] Will One X ROMS work on the XL?

Looking forward to my first Android phone and wondering... Will ROMs developed for the One X also work for the XL?
Not sure if I can give up on my ORD from my Windows Mobile days...

I really doubt it since the roms and kernels are made for different cpu/gpu's.
Not to mention that roms will have to take in consideration the different radios such as 4g.
So no
Okay. I have to disagree with the idea that they won't.
They may not work directly, but adding LTE and processor support really isn't that hard of a thing to do ( as far as I am aware ). I'm relatively sure at some point, there will be a firmware cooker that will add those automatically to One X roms to make them compatible.

Different processor. The LTE isnt the issue. Its going from an Nvidia quad core 3 to a Qualcomm S4 Krait dual core. Completely different hardware that will require different drivers and paths.
Perhaps there will be a hellraiser package of some sort that will inject the drivers that we need, and be able to use, but the short answer is probably not at this time.
Hellraiser! That's exactly what I had in mind when I was saying what I did. I just couldn't put my finger on it.
However, I do hope a hellraiser kind of thing will released for the two.
Yep, different chipsets...no way they'll be compatible out of the box.
But it's likely that the people making the roms will make a version for both AT&T and International. As they've done w/ a lots of other phone's w/ different chips.
There's probably be a US team member, and a Intl team member working on those parts.
I can only hope.
Thanks!
Thanks for all the responses... Really looking forward to this phone but may hold off just a tad to see how ROM dev goes. I purposely held off on the vivid waiting for some quad core goodness, so I am disappointed that AT&T is not getting the international version. But, I understand why.

All our US guys, me included are buying the ONE X from the UK. I don't see the two phones ever being compatible rom wise (one x & one xl). fcc cleared the international version to be shipped to the US and can run fine on AT&T's radios. so It's a no brainer for me to get the quad core model. I can live with out LTE

I find it slightly nonsensical that people are buying into the quadcore hype when Krait is faster than Tegra 3, clock for clock, core for core.
It bugs the crap out of me... really. That means that just because of that the US is going to lose some major development. and I don't know if that's worth another $300 out of my pocket...
I think people are missing something here, because in actuality development will be split upon two different fronts.
The One X will be an EU/Asia HSPA+ phone, but the One XL will be used internationally, with the only difference between each XL is the radio bands.
It doesn't matter there's still radio differences and processor differences. It's a completely different SoC. That makes it difficult to transpose between devices(I would assume).
I'm thinking the One X will get most of the dev support. One XL has to many strikes out the gate. One XL will probably have a later release date its going to be releaesd to a smaller portion of the world population.

The problem is that the world is turning LTE into a major clusterfuck of radio bands to support, there's already 4 bands for GSM, 5 bands of WCDMA, and something like 4 bands of LTE in the US alone.
There's definitely a mess of bands in North America.
Verizon: 700 MHz - and their phones are CDMA/LTE dual
AT&T: 700 and AWS - their phones are GSM/HSPA/LTE triple
MetroPCS: 1900 and AWS - their phones are CDMA/LTE dual
Sprint (planned): 1900 including G-Block - their phones will be CDMA/LTE dual, with maybe one CDMA/Wimax/LTE hotspot
Note that the Verizon and AT&T 700 MHz LTE service is on different channels in 700 MHz, so they will not be compatible. Hooray.
Globally, LTE is expected be deployed on 38 different radio bands.

If you're concerned about the lack of development (and dont care about LTE) this is the way to go. The X and XL will both be popular here at XDA, but for those of you that want the most popular/supported device you might want to think about the One X.
And yes, most One X chefs will eventually whip up an XL version of their build but my guess is it wont be right away..

Are the people who are getting the X instead of the XL buying it unlocked? Because I would get the X and sacrifice LTE if I can get it for the same price. My contract is over in May so I was going to use my upgrade on this.

We will be buying them unlocked. It won't be the same price. The AT&T One X will be at least $549.99 off contract. The lowest price I have seen for the International T3 One X is $675.50 from Negri Electronics.

You are right. One XL will be a lot cheaper than the One X. One X want be in the 550.00 range until 3-4 months after release.

I'd be willing to bet that the AT&T XL will be at least $650 off contract. That's what the Galaxy Note costs, and the XL is a better device.

[Q] CDMA vs GSM and xda Development

I'm almost certain that I know the answer to my question. I have tried finding xda development on ROM's for numerous phones using the CDMA technology and find they are almost non-existent. I assume this is primarily due to the market share that GSM phones has...one internet post put it @ 70%. Is this theory plausible?
Probably, considering there are a lot more development going on GSM phones as opposed to CDMA. That doesn't mean CDMA development is non existent, specifically the Sprint HTC EVO, EVO 3D, E4GT, etc.
Non-Existent was too general, I should've mentioned my CDMA carriers and....
...specifically US Cellular and Verizon. I was looking at their various Samsung offerings. What can I say about that, <g>. They are the 2 major carriers where I "play." I am currently on i Wireless, a subsidiary of T-Mobile, which of course is GSM, and I have found lots of development for my Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant. I am considering switching to a 4G phone and one of those carriers which have signals where I play, as my carrier doesn't and probably never will. I have thoroughly enjoyed the after marker ROM's here and many know how "bad" Samsung is about firmware upgrades. I guess choices one way or the other need to be made.

INTERNATIONAL ONE X ON AT&T dumb phone data?

So i'm intending to buy an htc one X international edition to use on at&t. I was wondering if i could use that phone on the $10 unlimited dumb phone data plan? I have been doing it with various unlocked phones, including tmobile galaxy s 1, and tmobile galaxy s2. I was just wondering if the Htc one x international, and the At&t edition had the same IMEI? Also for anyone who has tried, does it pull hspa+? according to gsmarena it should, but i just want to double check.

First off, this should be in the international forums since you are talking about that device. This isn't a forum devoted to AT&T, its to the AT&T HTC One X, which you are not purchasing.
Secondly, no, they do not have the same IMEI since they are completely different devices.
And thirdly, I would expect it to pull HSPA+ since I believe it is marketed that way.
Thanks a ton. and sorry for posting in the wrong forum.

[Q] T-Mobile What phones can I use...

OK, not even sure if this is the right place to post this question or not... But I am switching to T-Mobile (Small Business Plan $49.95 unlimited plan without phones) So I am buying my own phones.. I am trying to figure out what phones I can get that will do there 4G network, I think the network is HSPA+
I have been looking on eBay for phones, found a bunch of unlocked phones from over seas, just not sure as far as what ones will do the 4G, they list 2G and 3G and the different bands but have 4G in the title...
I am tired of big phones, I have the HTC Evo no, I want to go back to one the size of my old HTC Inc....
I wish there where career specific forums on here. Thanks for any help!!
Kyle
Most unlocked phones from overseas will not get AWS bands which t-mobile uses. The Galaxy Nexus will get 4G..but for the size you are looking for, I would go with an HTC Amaze. Make sure it is the T-mobile version.

Thanks. I actually have my friends HTC Amaze phone that I was testing to make sure T Mobile service was better then Sprint in all the places I go (It is much better). It is a little big... The Samsung Blaze isn't to bad, but feels a little cheap...

If you want a high quality decently specced phone, you aren't going to be able to find anything smaller than the amaze...
The Blaze seams pretty good as far as speeds go. The Amaze feels alot better because it is heaver... I guess worst case I could just go with the Blaze.. To bad I couldn't get one of those Casio G Shock phones to work 4G, that thing looks indestructible!!
I decided to go with the Samsung Exhibit ll, it looks about the same size as my old HTC inc
