Trying to Unlock G2x - T-Mobile LG G2x

Well, I'm bought an unlock code for my phone from eBay and when I put the At&t sim in it doesn't allow me to put in the code. Come to find out I need the stock image, which I lost ages ago. Currently I'm running Hellfire Sandwich 1.4, but am willing to flash this to stock to unlock and give Simple Mobile a shot (they use T-mobile/At&t service), if I could find an image. Or is their another way to enter that code? Perhaps a flashable way to have the phone detect the sim before booting, or providing and option in CWM? I don't know, but my searching online didn't bring anything, so I'm reaching out here.

i use simple mobile
and i didnt have to unlock it. just insert the sim card and you are ready to go.

There is a nandroid restore image of the stock froyo rom in development. I suggest doing nandroid backup of your current rom, restore stock, unlock, restore current backup.
Keep in mind I know nothing about SIM-unlocking phones, but that would be an easy way to switch to stock rom and back.

I feel like such a dope, I popped in my SimpleMobile sim and then I was able to put in my unlock code, and it unlocked. Thanks for your help! Now It's just stuck in grey and not going to blue/green and I have no internet access.

Have you checked apn settings?

Trying to help my friend root his D2G

Hey Guys,
My friend just called me asking me to help him root his Droid2 Global. He told me ever since he did the OTA gingerbread update his phone is really slow and lock ups a lot. He has to reboot multiple times a day to keep those issues at bay.
I have a Droid Incredible and its rooted w/ custom rom and Kernel, So I know my way around HTC but im not familiar with Motorola.
I have searched around the xda forums about rooting this phone and found a lot of people saying to use z4root but it appears it worked with froyo but there is no mention if it works if a person has done the latest gb OTA update.
So my question,
What should I use to root his D2G?
(he lives in the USA if that matters and does not travel outside the country)
Can the D2G be unrooted if needed at a later date and how can it be done?
What Rom do you guys recommend for a daily driver with good battery life?
Thanks for any help you can give me to help my friend.

Hi mate,
First question is he on verizon? if so you will need to get it sim unlocked (just call them and ask for the code)
you can band unlock it with this = http://www.mediafire.com/?rb5voutkiprab07
but sim unlock (GSM) needs a code from verizon
To root the phone you will need this file = http://www.mediafire.com/?n10le9o3eueus94
this works in ginger bread, just put your phone in charge only mode, run the Click to root your DROID 3.bat file and follow the on screen instructions (your phone will reboot itself 2 to 3 time, do not unplug it until the dos box tells you).
once you have done that you are going to have to install the following APK file so it installed recovery mode = http://www.mediafire.com/?768kl49sg1kzqqc
once you install the app, go in to it, do the bootstrap recovery, wait until it says sucessful and then when ever you need to go in to recovery mode choose the reboot recovery option (clock work mod doesn't work well on D2G so use this one)
the rom i say is best to you is = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259807

Thanks for the info, good stuff,
He is on Verizon, what does the sim unlock do, Im not familiar with sim cards
I was wondering why people are not using clockwork. So can I use rom manager to backup his stock rooted rom before flashing a new rom?
Much appreciated

hi mate, yeah after you install the bootloader it will allow you to backup roms.
if he is verizon you might not need the code as you wont be using the gsm mode.
the boot loader works just like clock work mod

App to backup IMEI??

So I haven't had any issues with my IMEI yet, knocking on wood. But I'd still like to back it up just in case. There have been some awesome apps to unlock, etc. I was wondering if there is anything out there to backup the IMEI info. I'm not techie enough to use some of the current methods.
I read that there is something in Synergy that automatically does it. Is that something that could be extracted and made available??
Just looking for suggestions on the best/easiest way to do it.
to my knowledge there is no app as of yet to backup your imei. the .zip extracted from the new synergy builds must still be run through recovery. however, you don't need to be worried about losing your IMEI unless you're planning to root and flash some roms and if that's the case it will be simple to backup using that .zip.
If you plan on staying stock for a while but want to back it up just for peace of mind you should try the qpst method found on the forums -- i'm not very tech savvy but with the instructions and pictures it was a very simple process. and now i can sleep a little bit more easily
I've been using beans with no issues. But with JB hitting soon I'm sure ill be crack flashing.

I'm not aware of any app as of yet to back up your IMEI, but there a good thread on here with a method of doing so.

Rooting problem

Hi folks,
There was this wonderful guide on how to root a phone. Well, I'm stupid. I admit it.
I have NO idea what flashing means or what ROMing does...
regardless, my sole aim & purpose here was to figure out a way HOW to get my phone in a state, where i can delete ANY APPLICATION tmobile puts on my bloody phone that i don't want or need. much like getting a new HP laptop...i buy my own OS and delete everything and start from scratch...
so first i got my unlock code from tmobile...so my phone is unlocked...but i still can't delete any app
so guy next to me who i know and writes apps for android says i should root my phone
well i think i'm rooted...but can't confirm...
regardless, going through this process of rooting...it cleared out phone contents...which i knew it would...you know SD data, sim card data...photos, etc etc...
lol...well now i forgot what gmail ID i used to store all my phone contacts that sucks for me...
So HOW do i get my phone to a state where i can delete anything i want on my phone?!! Thx
Unlock bootloader, flash recovery e.g twrp (v 2.3.3 recommended, higher versions have problems) flash super user then download system tuner and delete the bloat or stuff u don't want under system tab

This guide makes it pretty easy.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24478083
Follow the steps to unlock bootloader, get a new recovery, and a custom Rom.
Customs Roms don't come with all that tmobile bloat. If you like Sense, try Viper One S.
Goodluck and enjoy the wonderful world of xda.

I don't know what a ROM is
But yes, I don't like ANY of the Tmobile bloated software...my INTENTION is to delete all the apps it puts on and just put my own on.
I also don't know what new recovery means.
I'm a guy that pretty much has used Win7 for ages & ages..this is my "realistically" first smartphone, because the "actual 1st" had a broken screen and didn't play with it much. All of this Android stuff is pretty new.
So yeah, I just like clean slates...I pretty much just want my phone to play the music I add on it, my Pandora & watch a few TV shows that I add to the phone via USB from my PC.
As a side question, is it OKAY to ask about "cracked" apps...meaning finding apps that are free but are normally billable..thanks.
Earlier this morning I did go to one of the threads here to start "rooting" but I don't know if I'm done or not...how do I know?
get to know xda, not just these threads--ck out the wiki
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Main_Page
i read and searched everything when i started
you cannot discuss cracked apps as the are illegal
if you are rooted you can dl and use apps like titanium backup and root explorer from market
all this takes time but effort like everything else we do
enjoy the advantages of being rooted
and once you are make a backup (nandroid) asap and a copy of your sdcard. put both on pc also

[Q] Removing unistallable apps from stock ROM?

Hi
My Verizon S3 (SCH-i535) has been off contract for a few months now. I'm considering buying a new phone, but I think the S3 is still a pretty good phone. However, I would really like to customize it a little if I'm going to keep it.
It has the latest OTA update (4.4.2), so I understand I can't load custom ROM's. But I can root it if I'm not mistaken. If that's right what I would like to do it remove some of the apps that I don't want or have no need for, but aren't uninstallable.
So, my questions are, does root let me do this? If so, is it fairly straight forward to do? And, how do I find out what is safe to remove and what will break my phone?
I'm at the point where if I can't 'make it my own' (short of a custom ROM) I'm going to by an unlocked phone. Which hopefully will give me more control than this one .
Thanks,
Jon
Yes, you can remove "unremovable" apps with root. Use Titanium Backup or a file explorer with root access. You just need to be careful that you don't remove something critical for the phone to operate. I would highly recommend installing the unofficial Safestrap for our bootloader locked phones and make a backup of the rom before you remove anything.

Thanks. I had been planning on putting a few examples in the original post as examples. But when I went in the settings and looked at all the apps again (haven't poked around in there in a while) there were dozens. I couldn't decide which to list . So I guess I will have to be careful I don't go overboard.
I'm still trying to understand what Safestrap is, or does (although I did read some of the description). It sounds like even though we can't unlock the bootloader, and therefor replace the factory ROM, we can get the device to boot an alternate ROM stored on the SD card. I keep wondering if I have this right, it sounds a little odd. Or maybe not, I can't decide.

Yeah, safestrap will let you run another rom, but it has to be based off of the stock 4.4.2 rom. I think there are 2 or 3. And the second rom will use the internal phone storage. So if you have the 16gb phone like I do, 2 roms don't leave much space. I just use safestrap as a custom recovery to make backups in case I screw something up and to flash a few things. I just use the stock rom and don't put a second one on. As far as what is safe to remove, if you find one you aren't sure of just Google it and you should be able to find out. There are several lists floating around. I usually disable them with titanium backup and leave them there, although a did remove a few so I could add some other apps to the system. They can't run when disabled so they aren't using ram or battery. If it has the android guy beside it, it is probably important! I think I have all the Samsung stuff and most of the Verizon disabled.

SM-G310R5=SM-G310HN=Galaxy Ace3?

I'm new to phones
I got a greatcall jitterbug3 that is an overlaid bloated mess but otherwise a cool little phone. Its drawback is that Samsung and greatcall must have made some kind of deal and only put JellyBean in it.
From what I can figure out the SM-G310HN is the international version of the same phone: it runs kitkat.
I have emailed Samsung and GreatCall and basically they don't give a hoot.
I just got this phone new last Oct.
I would like to put a custom rom in it but I can't unlock the bootloader I've tried a bunch of command line but the best I've gotten is "unauthorized"
So
What if I got the stock rom (I did) for the 310hn which is kitkat
Can I flash a stock rom using odin without the bootloader being unlocked?
I know I might brick it I'm asking if this is a possibility before doing something stupid.
What I'd really like would be to go with custom but that seems impossible.
This is so much more difficult than working on windows where I could always wipe the disk and start over, LOL
I've been puttering with this for two months and thankfully it still works and I do believe I was able to capture a nandroid backup when I had it provisionally unlocked with ez-unlock and rooted with online nandroid. At least the nandroid included files that looked good and a boot img.
I might have found something:
http://vsphone.info/index.php?phone1=7468&phone2=6042
The hn is gsm and the r5 is cdma, I wonder if that would nix the changeover
Sorry for the long winded post.
Hey Thanks,
Dave
