Ok so i was wondering ... i got the NexusHD2 ICS CM9 ROM for my HTC HD2,
If i open the .zip file up, system>app and then you'll see a list of system apps like Browser.apk, Calculator.apk, so i was wondering, can i delete the one i won't use anyways and will the Rom still work?
Please respond ASAP I wanna install the ROM
Yes, you can even move some system apk files to /data/app, however, there are several applications that need to be left in /system/app.
There is no guarantee with the following list. Those are just my finding so far.
braces > can be moved to /data/app
! > should not be removed
ApplicationsProvider.apk! (Browser.apk) CalendarProvider.apk! (Camera.apk) CertInstaller.apk Contacts.apk (ContactsProvider.apk)! (SpareParts.apk)! DownloadProvider.apk! (DrmProvider.apk)! (MediaProvider.apk)! DefaultContainerService.apk! (LiveWallpapersPicker.apk) Mms.apk PackageInstaller.apk! Phone.apk! Provision.apk! Settings.apk! SettingsProvider.apk! Superuser.apk SystemUI.apk! TelephonyProvider.apk! Torch.apk (UserDictionaryProvider.apk) Vending.apk (VpnDialogs.apk)
Yes it will still work when you flash the ROM because the apk files you deleted will not be found by the installer and will ignore whats missing.

You dont have to delete any, just put them into QUARANTINE that way you can use them later when you need them again.
Help
So i can just delete unnecessary .apk´s like quick lookup and google talk which i won´t use anyways?
Oh btw .. If i replace Rosie.apk with a themed/modded one, my ROM won't boot up ...

I installed the theme but since I use stock launcher, I don't like the way it sets up the toolbar.
Does anyone have the white/transparent-like Search widget for ICS 4.0? Thanks!
From the guys who made the ICS theme here on XDA, in attachment
It's a widget, put the apk in /system/app and reboot.
Greetz
I copied it to system/app and changed permission, reboot, but I only see the original search widget.. could you help me out?
I checked for all read (Owner, Group, Others) and write only for Owners. Execute is blank for all.
Do I have to rename the apk file?
works fine with me, did nothing but copied it

Nope it should work just like that... Permissions indeed are rw-r--r-- like all system apps.
It should pop up in the widgets list named "Google Search" and an empty (transparant) icon next to it. I'm using MV Rom with Go Launcher but I don't think that matters much

Weird....
So all you did was copy the apk (w/o renaming) to system/app, change permission and reboot?
I still see the Gingerbread Search Widget. Well, that's the only search widget I'm seeing now.
I have a stock launcher + CM7.1.0.1 + Trinity if that matters, unless we need a custom launcher?
Yes.
Maybe you should ask the fine folks who made it:

You need a root file explorer or ADB to navigate there.

it is in the Market Tiwiz ICS Search Bar that does not work for me :-(
there is another that work fine... Custom ICS Search Widget
retired now from the Market, do not know why???? If somebody has one and post it here thanks...
Why don't you just use an ICS ROM and get the real thing ? Alternatively there a bunch of them on the market, especially with GO! Launcher themes. Do a quick Market search

For those that don't know, try changing the owner of the APK to "root - 0" for both owner and group, using Root Explorer, as well as changing the permissions to rw-r-r (read previous posts for instructions).

Hi!! this seems to be a good choice for my x10....

Using:
v7 X10S rom
DoomKernel
aiit guys, this is a file i compiled from the needed stuff from the rom in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671574
Should work on CM7 roms. Problem is its not a signed zip (bcs idk how to), so you guys have to copy paste and change permissions yourselves.
another thing is that you need to cross check your build.prop with the one inside. There are a few lines that need to be copied... im not sure what yours is missing so Crosscheck and try to change most stuff to sony.
If you are using linux (ubuntu/fedora) (well with nautilus) just download SSHDroid from the market. turn it on and crtl+L in nautilus type in the link (eg.sftp://[email protected]) then it will ask for password which by default is "admin"
after that you can basically copy your files into the system folder.
(you can also select the files choose properties and under permissions tab edit your perms. ) good luck! enjoy your working gallery
everything works and not work like in the thread i linked above

You should use logcat to see which lib is required for each app.

Hi
i would like to change/replace the emoticons on my phone. the emoticons that comes with the ROM i flashed looks pretty bad (for me personally) so i would like to change them. i have done a little bit of searching in the forums and i came across some threads which i dont quite understand. i am hoping some one with more experience and expert in this area can help me out
Phone: HTC Sensation XE
ROM: Darkforest Sensation XE 7.2.0
i realized that i need to set up ADB . then i further read that there are multitool for apk or something that i can use for manipulating the apk in my phone. there a a few different threads talking about all these
So my questions now are
Q: Is setting up ADB enough for my purpose (just replace the emoticons). i wouldnt want to "overkill" (as in install too many tools/applications) just to have my emoticons replaced.
Q: -removed- found my answer for this question thank you
Q: i found some threads saying it i can also flash the zip they created and require a specific ROM does that mean with the ROM i have on my phone i cant run their zip through CWM recovery?
Sorry for so many question and pardon me if some of the questions i ask don't make sense.
Thank you!!
it's simple

make a copy of your framework-res.apk from system/framework using es file explorer or any other tool you prefer
put it on your desktop
right click on it,then open it,DO NOT EXTRACT IT
double click on res, then drawable hdpi and the files are in there, there's normally 18
the 1st one starts off emo_im_angel.png
delete these, add your new ones by dragging & dropping the icons in,making sure they are named the same & are same size
click yes you want to add files
press X(close apk)
then how you put it back is up to u
adb, flashable zip or if your not to sure, place it on your sd card & copy over origional, set permissions to rw-r-r
reboot
ALL DONE

i have followed your guide and it worked!! this is the easiest i've read so far! thank you so much!!
Does anyone have a standaole Cyanogenmod Messaging apk I can push to /system/app or install on another ROM? I looked in the latest nightly zip, and did not find an Mms.apk. I also flashed the ROM just to make sure it was there, and yes it was. I also looked inside the /system/app folder on my phone after it installed, and I did not see an Mms.apk. Where is it stored?
Found it!
It's located in system/priv-app. No idea when/why it moved there. Also, if you flash the Paranoid Android GAPPS package (first one with everything), it automatically removes the AOSP/CM Mms.apk included. Hope this helps! Going to write a small tutorial as to how to avoid this problem in the future.
Hey everyone. Is there anywhere I could go to download the system apps that come preinstalled on the M8 with their respective odex files. Not thinking I just went straight ahead and deleted a bunch of them using root explorer and now I am unable to use ART.
Thanks for any insight + help in advance
check the android development section. I have a thread there that has the system dump .. download, and pull the files you need from the .zip
