Hello. I am currently looking to ultimately have an ICS Rom on my HTC Inspire 4G. Currently it is running stock Android Version 2.3.3. I read another thread about using the ACE Hack Kit in order to root the Inspire and put custom Gingerbread (2.3.3) Roms, but how would I go about rooting the phone in order to put a custom ICS Rom? Same thing? I just need to be pointed into the right direction really, I apologize if there is already a thread on the topic.

Yes, use the same hack kit to gain root.. the software and directions are very easy to follow IMO.

Okay so same hack kit to root and then flash the ICS Rom normally?
Basicly you got your phone with gingerbread. Ace hack kit downgrades you to froyo so you can flash. To get to ice cream sandwich will need to flash to upgrade.
Cupcake= OS v1.5
Doughnut= OS v1.6
Eclair= OS v2.1
Froyo= OS v2.2
Gingerbread= OS v2.3
Honeycomb= OS v3.0 (tablet)
Ice cream sandwich= OS v4.0
I think I got that right.
Edit: to correct version.

Make sure to spend a few hours reading up on everything before you do it. Or you will be right back here asking how to unbrick your device
You could always just wait a few months for the ics updgrade, since your phone is still stock you'll get the upgrade if and when they choose to release it.

Just one thing buddy, the Hack Kit is not downgrading to froyo...GB shipped Inspires are severely affected if you flash a froyo RUU. The hboot get messed and it takes ages to boot. The Kit uses just GB RUU to downgrade and not in all cases the downgrade is necessary...Please make sure you don't suggest anyone to downgrade with a froyo RUU...all the details are in the manual...

OK cool didn't know that. I didn't use ace hack kit I used bubbys one touch to root mine. I'm pretty sure mine came stock with 2.2 upgraded to 2.3 with stock update and had to downgrade mine back to 2.2.
Looks like I need to go read the ace manual. Don't want anyone trashing their phone.

Because it will cost AT&T $$, and they aren't known for buying upgrades from OEMs very willingly. Also, I don't know that AT&T ever considered the Inspire a "flagship" where the DHD is considered as such.

Its simple. ATT puts each phone on an EOL (End of life) list after 4 months. After that time no more software updates are given out. This goes for all devices. Flagship or Otherwise. This has always been their policy.

I have my fingers crossed for you man, but to be honest it would not the first time an OEM released an update for a phone but ATT refused to release it. HTC has released 3 updated for This device but ATT only has released one and there are not anymore coming. Hell we didnt even get the Security update that fixed a security flaw in the wifi that HTC released.

yes, i was one of those who foolishly accepted the OTA Gingerbread and lost root. I'm new to Android and didn't know any better. OTA updates don't wreck the equivalent of root on WebOS devices, which is where I'm coming from.

This is correct.
They released it yesterday, but I had already installed the one that was "leaked". So today I compared the official release and the leaked one, and they are in fact the exact same thing. No need to wait to recieve it OTA, just go to the thread where the RUU is avaliable for download. It's all the same thing.

Try doing a factory reset to see if that helps with your gps.
After installing the leaked file I did a factory reset just for the heck if it to make sure things are all cleared out.
I wanted to install this just to see but when I tried I just got hung up on the HTC black logo screen
I'd root but im so worried about pricking my phone.

You can try, depending on your ROM, but I seriously doubt anything you want to happen will come out of that. You might be stuck in a boot loop, it could brick it, it could just screw up all kinds of stuff. VERY bad idea in general. My advice:
Be patient.
im still running HTC Mecha.. I just used Revolutionary to root.. and still have everything running good on my stock ROM.

Mecha is the HTC codename for the device, much like the EVO 4G is known as the Supersonic and the Incredible S/Incredible2 as the Vivo/Vivow, respectively.
just be patient. Usually a workable, root version will be released shortly before or after the OTA goes live. I would not except an OTA on a rooted phone. just keep an eye out on XDA.
Since you're rooted and stock the best thing to do is to wait until they release a version of it so you can install it via recovery like already mentioned. If you accept an OTA update while rooted bad things will most likely occur.
You will not he able to install an ota if your rooted. This is due to the custom recovery. When the update checks the recovery, it will fail.

Im just curious if anyone knows if there will be a new radio update with the new jellybean release in a few weeks?
There already is one you can use in the development section You don't have to flash it to have Jelly Bean.

Judging by the screenshot of the port, it's still KI1. Which is the same as 4.0.4
Ports from the sdk or the gn would have nothing at all to do with a radio for the nexus s.
Radios will come in the form of official ota for the device as well as the factory images released by google.

I doubt it will "lock" the phone. They are apps to install (.apk). If you are on some unlocked variant of the 3.20 ROM for the phone you should be ok. Just in case, nandroid and recover should the need present itself.
