HTC One S does not have GLONASS support. - HTC One S

Just called HTC.
They confirmed that the S4 chip has hardware support for GLONASS, but that they (HTC) haven't enabled it in their software.
Crap.

not really problematic is it ... just made a little gps test to stop you from worrying
always 11-13 satelites in view with locked onto 8-9. reported accuracy ~12 feet. accuracy in maps near to perfection. so no complaints from a former galaxy s user (gps realy very bad most of the time ...)

Here are 2 sreenshots from germany, on the first you see the sattelite numbers under the signal bars, on the second you see them on the compass. Thought i heard the higher numbers >60 are Glonass ? On the lower picture there are some. And on the upper picture was 21 Sats in view, with GPS only i get 12 max with my current Galaxy Nexus. I hope other people will test the feature and find out the answer from HTC is wrong. I really hope. It would be stupid to have this hardware feature and disable it ... Xperia S, Razr and Note have it already.

Yes, well, that's good for you. However, here in Sweden, GPS satellites is quite low on the horizon, so GLONASS would make a huge difference for the better.
I guess I will have to look for a Sony or Samsung instead.

If the hardware supports it, maybe HTC will enable Glonass in software updates.

current galaxy s user. how much better? quick lock on? accurate in cities? consistent?

How many satellites do the one s owners have in GPS test ? how many with numbers over 60 ?

It says on the box that it supports GLONASS. I think they made a mistake when you called them.
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA

Confirmed, plenty of sats in the 60's and 70's = GLONASS supported and working fine.

My new HTC One S actually states GLONASS support on the spec's on the packaging so if it doesn't work I will complain

The one S does have GLONASS enabled. A device without GLONASS would only be seeing about 9-10 satellites, with GLONASS supported devices you get double the amount.
Just took this screenshot using this test whilst indoors and plus it is very cloudy here (UK) at the minute.

You don't have any sats over 60 in that pic, so I don't think you are locked to any GLONASS satellites.

It all depends on the location. People with the GS 3 in the UK are only getting like 21 satellites in view as well, my bro's desire is only getting like 10 satellites as well as my Samsung Spica i5700.
Besides, as I said below the screenshot, the triangles in the bottom left box are GLONASS satellites and I am locked onto 3 out of 9.
And here is another guy's comparison (GLONASS VS non-GLONASS device) in the UK:
A GS 3 GPS test done in the UK:
And if that isn't enough, taken from anandtech's review of the one S:
I’m starting to sound like a broken record, but just like the One X (AT&T) the One S uses the on-SoC baseband for GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System). In this case, that means GPS with GLONASS, specifically Qualcomm’s gpsOneGen 8A with GLONASS. I have no problems getting a fast lock even indoors or in an urban environment, and like other combos with GLONASS you can see those satellites pop into use when GPS signal is weak.

I can only lock onto 12 satellites here. I'm in California in my room testing it out

I was an Galaxy S i9000 user from the first-second month by the exit.
When I change my phone with this one S (first month by the exit) I notice a really improvement of the GPS.
If with the GS it took a lot of minutes to get a bad gps signal, with the one s it took max 30 seconds without AGPS.
With the AGPS it took only 10-15 second to have a 8-9 feet accuracy.
So if you are thinking to change your GS with ONES, you should do the change.
I also make a compare with two GS2 of two my friends, samsung sucks really lot in this part.
The HTC GPS is really good in all phone that they make.

I've got good GPS/Glosnass reception on my One S. 21 satellites in sight, one part of the sky blocked by a big building. That's in the Netherlands.

Maybe time to change the misleading topic title, as the One S quite clearly features GLONASS support, both in hardware and software.

My HTC ONE S (s4) locks onto GLONASS. However all GLONASS satelites disappear when i hold the phone vertically. see my screen shots here http://i.imgur.com/yr6TV.jpg

after all these tests we can say the Glonass positioning system is surely enabled on HOS,even if htc assistance said it's not...so it should be working also on sense based rom such as viper or trickdroid! on aosp, aokp,cm rom instead,is it working or not? what do you think about?

The Samsung 4G Naked: Side by Side in the Nude with the Vibrant

Good Evening,
After taking the 4G apart several times I decided I would take pictures to highlight the few differences. Some noticeable differences:
1) antenna placement on the board, matching contact placement different on the back housing underside
2) the connector for the headset is different and the ribbon is labeled T959V (model # for the 4G)
3) less memory which can be seen thru the software
4) the GPS still sucks and does not work on this one
5) maybe I received a defective unit but there is an overheating issue. the 4G uses 200ma more than the vibrant but maybe the phone or the charger is defective as it keeps overheating and with time charging seems to be more of an issue/concern. software confirms this with error message.
Enjoy the pics.

Thanks and I hope this helps satisfy some curiosity. In my opinion, from owning both of them, not worth the upgrade at all. The 4G is going back to T-Mo.

Yes - confirmed - camera has the same plug connector. I swapped various parts back & forth to test things out (actually using them, took pictures, etc.) and the only things that are not compatible are the headset plug connector; I guess that is why it is the only part inside that has T959V labeled on the ribbon itself, and the back housing - the antenna contacts receptor(?) on the underside, since one of them was moved to the top of the board, which is also labeled T959V instead of i9000 as it is on the Vibrant.

The modem is one of the black chips soldered onto the board. So no I don't think it would be that easy even if you have those robot precise soldering skills. I will upload a picture that shows the chips and identifies them on the Vibrant (same layout as the 4G but obviously the modem is different on the 4G. Then you have to consider that the extra 20% juice this phone consumes (1000ma on the 4G vs 800ma on the Vibrant) is to power the new modem. So even if you did have the soldering skills, then you might have a power problem.

Yes, it is a possibility. The phone keeps overheating as well when charging, it gets extremely hot. I think this may be a defective unit I received.
i got my 4g and so far no problems with battery or GPS... gps was the first thing i tried and it worked great. im guess some of these crappy phones are slipping through Quality Assurance on the assembly line...

You are totally right. You would think after the GPS mess & outrage with the Vibrant that they would be more careful this second time around. Apparently they did not listen or learn. It really makes me consider going for the LG Optimus 2X instead of the S2. I really want to get the S2 but these problems keep worrying me. It is like loving someone but they keep beating you up, do you get out of the relationship or keep hoping it gets better? Hmmm....
my gps works alright, sometimes it's a little wonky but nothing horribly concerning. i haven't gotten the overheating issue once although my battery is kind of sad.. i've rooted it and used setcpu to underclock when idle but still just short battery life.
i have noticed, however, that i have a green tint to my screen. noticed when taking photos that skin tones are off, then i email it to myself and check on other phones/computers and sure enough, it's just my 4g screen that seems to be tinted green a little. anyone else notice this or is it just me?

Hmm that sucks, if you are going to keep it, that is a problem I would not want to have, try get it exchanged. Thanks for letting us know about your problem.
Maybe someone has a solution and can offer some advice for the green tint?
This thread alone just convinced me that there is no way I would upgrade from the vibrant to this. What a let down. I considered getting it at first but thankfully realized they are just the same phone.
Moved to general as not android development
My friend and I both got 4Gs' at the same time. My gps fixed within 2 meters in my home, his running side by side took a long time to aquire. We rebooted his, gps took a long time to aquire but after 2 min, it did, but was within 9 meters of same location.

I wanna know...
I see the GPS is an issues. But I wanna know from yall that have the SGS 4G, is this the phone to buy right now on Tmobile or go a different route?
Im still rockin a Touch Pro 2. Contract about to end soon. I was lookin at the myTouch4G but the SGS 4G has better looking radios. Where the myTouch only has the 14.4 stuff.
What's yalls thought on it?
I have used both and they are both good phones. The decision for me was made by the screen on the GS4G, the Super AMOLED just looks so much better to me. The MT4G is a more solid feeling phone and it is plenty fast (processing wise). The GS4G is noticeably faster on the 4G network and I also get faster speeds while on WiFi, not sure why but I will take it! Coming from the TouchPro 2 you will be happy with either, I just prefer the GS4G.

The HTC Sensation Death Grip - GSMArena

Is this the reason why people seem to be suffering with poor signal? Not good news
HTC Sensation suffers from death grip, iPhone 4 caught snickering
But then again nobody I know carries the phone around flat in the palm of their hand, so probably just another overreaction from the HTC Haters
just saw this at gsmarena too... can anyone do a re-test if this is true? i want to get an htc phone but these things really bother me.. please confirm guys
Just about every phone I've ever had had a death grip issue, including the Vibrant and the MT4G. Since the phones had to be held in a particularly unorthodox manner to experience this, it was a non-issue.

I agree, if you look at the video of the Bluetooth music, when holding the phone in the normal position it works perfectly.
Yep. Just people overreacting and trying to make news.
I'd love to see a video of a phone that can't be made to suffer some signal loss by holding it in a certain way.
The key question is does it suffer significant loss by holding it in a normal manner. More practically do you get wifi, call or GPS drops when using the phone normally. Show me that video and I'll care.
I don't see this as an issue since how often or why do would you need to put a death grip on your phone
Tried to replicate these issues, cannot. The initial signals must be too weak to start with, so disappear completely - or, the whole thing is a fake.....?
Bluetooth is shorter range anyway, isn't that the point, it's meant to be low power.
My Sensation wifi reception isn't the greatest but I have no issue with it, however I hold the phone
Tbh I am surprised at a site like gsmarena posting 'sensational' claims..... without knowing the whole story.
In 2 words: bull ****.
Really, I can't understand why people are searching those issues which are not issues at all O-o
I mean, every phone does suffer from signal drops and all that kind of things, but well.. it really depends in which position.
If you look in the video, the phone works perfectly when holding it normally.. just when you hold it like I dont know what ( who will hold it like this?) the signal drops.
So I think there is nothing to worry about..
I think that this is a valid issue since when you browse the internet and hold the phone horizontally for landscape viewing then this might cause the wifi signal to drop. I have read this issue also on the HTC Desire S. I went to the store to try and its really true that when you hold it horizontally, the wifi signal would drop. So i guess that this is also happening on the HTC Sensation.
Isn't GSM arenas phone missing a contact?
slash gears sensation has an extra contact thus I'm assuming equals better reception.

It's because SlashGear has the US version while GSMArena has the UK one.
Yeah, apparently the 4G model has an extra contact point.
The T-Mobile version needs another contact because of 1700 MHz band (not sure, I'm just guessing)
if the sensation is anything like the HD2, the GSM Antenna is in the lower part. On top are the Wifi+BT (same Antenna) and the GPS. Total of three antennas.
Also, the HD2 had the same arrangment were the back cover (plastic)had all the antennas & they were connected by similar conacts. The difference simply is that with the sensation the cover comes out when removing the battery while the HD2 had the plastic back fixed. So if there is a problem with this design we should have noticed it in the HD2 first.
Another thing, the BT streaming sample done, as per swedish source was done at 6m distance. which kinda long for purpose of bluetooth!!
Does that mean the Sensation's Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, Radios won't work if the back cover is removed? That would be too bad coz my HD2 works fine even if the battery is exposed..
Today I found out that I am also suffering with my sensation.
It is absolutely no bull****.
This is my third HTC, I have next to my Sensation a HD2.
With my HD2 the deathgrip was only a problem when i cover the hole with my top hand, i never normaly do that so it wasn't a problem.
But with my sensation its a much bigger problem.
If i hold him in my right hand, there is no problem.
if i hold him in my left hand and touch with my right finger then you see that he is losing signal.
if i hold him in landscape mode then almost all my wifi signal is gone.
If i hold him in my right hand and tick with my right finger on the top of the sensation, the wifi wignal drops down.
And the biggest problem is that he loses the wifi signal and then he is searching again for wifi.
I have never tested Bluetooth, and i have 3 antenna points in the cover.
maybe i will make a video later.
and sorry for my bad english, google translate Helps me

Hard to belive ppl are not thinking this is a problem.
That Position is MUCH more common then the Iphone 4 death grip... Also the issue is much more prominent on the Sensation then on the Iphone 4.

all i've seen is a couple videos, i believe this is true:
dual 1.4 or 1.5Ghz
5.3 or 5.5 samold (Super HD) screen
stylus (wwoooohooooo !)
8MP rear cam
1.4MP front facing cam
2600Mah battery (wooooohoooooooooo!)
gsm and/or lte
it is a little big for a phone, a little small for a tab... but i think it is going to make some huge waves in the market. possibilities with a size like that are awesome.
things to hope for:
DLNA
hdmi-out
1Gb internal memory
microsd
dual sims
noise cancelling mics
GOOD GPS
awesome antenna
awesome battery life
i'm really looking forward to a long lasting device in STOCK FORM without a huge battery hanging off the back. we'll see if this comes through or not. i will be buying as soon as the early adopters confirm the bugs are minimal and livable. hope !

Doogee f3 pro review
I am an owner of a doogee f3 pro. It was true that the phone classified quite a lot of apps as incompatible, but this problem was completely solved with the recent (17/11/2015) OTA update. Benefits of the phone: OTA updates anailable. Very fast, very nice full hd display and also very good camera and video. Beautiful phone with metal frame and glass back. The gsm network signal is also very good. In fact, its the best i have ever seen!! I could even made phone calls in some places where, using the same network, with other phones i would only get "emergency calls only." GPS locks quickly on 19, even on 20 satellites (GPS+GLONASS) with very good signal and gps accuracy of 2, sometimes even 1 meter! The gps performance on an android device can be measured easily and with great accuracy using gps tools from google play store. This is the best gps performance i have ever seen on a smartphone!!! Now, the not so good things: Battery is not impressive at all. I think it was needed a bigger battery for an octa core phone. You can make out a whole day with medium use only (ex only phone calls and limited use of internet and games). Wifi signal is significantly lower than other android phones. Tested with plenty of 2.4 ghz wifi routers. If you are near the router, no problem. But if you are, for example, in a place where with other phones you are connected with only one or two wifi signal bars, with this phone you will have lost signal completely. Back speaker volume is loud enough, but sound quality could have been better. Front speaker is fine. And a last thing that it does not have a magnetic field sensor. If you are not using any apps that need a compass (ex google sky), then not a problem at all. Otherwise, you cannot use this kind of apps. In conclusion, its a great phone with only limitations battery life and the lo wifi signal. Could lo wifi signal be fixed with an OTA update? Lets see if doogee will take some action.

Doogee phone firmware development cycle is very long, some mobile phone never update.
I have some additional remarks.
It indeed is a great Phone for a very reasonable price.
Battery -life can become better when Phone can be rooted ( in the future?) so that apps will not start automatic.
Missing the notification-led as from my former Zopo C2.
No NFC but HotKnot wich is not common in Europe...

Is there a recovery like TWRP or CWM for it?
is there a way through even engeneering to increase the power of WiFi ? It is really too low

Just thought I'd add my verdict
I've had the phone about two months and so far the power button has broke and the charging port has broken.
I had the phone about two weeks and let back camera captor is dead. I buy an elephone p7000
Envoyé de mon F3_Pro en utilisant Tapatalk
I bought this phone for my wife, she is using it since two months now and the phone is working very good with the exception of the touch screen sensibility that is quite lazy and the wifi signal that is really low. Hope that Doogee will release soon an update that will solve these problems as I checked in various forums and still no one found a way to fix them.
ciao ciao

Question T'Eyes CC3 2K - Slow 4G Internet / Antenna Placement

Hi guys,
Quick question: what is the best antenna placement for the T'Eyes CC3 2K for best signal reception ?
My installer placed the 4G & Wifi 5G antennas sticked on the left pillar (driver side, under the factory cover, next to each other - like 2 cm apart) and the GPS on the same side a little lower towards the dash.
4G reception was pretty slow compared to the test I did on my phone in the same location (same carrier, using speedtest app)
Then I had my installer move the GPS antenna on the opposite side (passenger pillar), leaving the 4G and 5G/Wifi in place, next to each other on the left pillar.
Didn't see a big improvement ...
I am using a SIM card installed in the external adapter located in my glove box.
Do you think the 4G mounted next to the 5G / Wifi is causing the slow speeds ?
Or is it just the carrier / GPS & LTE bands available on the T'Eyes CC3 2K for my location ?
In the same locations, my iPhone is fast on 4g
Thanks again !

You're going to get a better signal and better speed on most mobile phones.
The modems are just better designed and usually support more frequency bands.
The same goes for 4g/5g routers. The throughput is often much lower than a mobile phone.
I get faster speeds tethering from my mobile to the head unit than I get by putting the SIM directly in the head unit.

Yes i was thinking maybe the smartphone has much better hardware for 4G/5G.
I will try to use the mobile hotspot for a few days and see how i like it.
Thanks for replying !
I was facing same problem and was wondering what i did wrong. In the beginning was thinking that the GPS antenna interfere (i put Cellular and GPS antenna in between 30 cm) but looks like i should get used with it

What did the seller suggest when contacted for support?
I didn’t contacted the seller. I went back to their recommended installer and ask them to move the GPS antenna on the other side.
Still same behavior afterwards.
I think it’s just the hardware and the limited GPS/LTE bands supported by it
If we think about it, our smartphones have all antennas crammed into a small case without any issues. It’s just better hardware.

This must be hardware issue, funny enough crappy YT57B very slow, fake parameters head unit had much better reception than my new Teyes CC3 6G, what a shame.
