[Q] Official ICS Not installing on Sensation XE - HTC Sensation

Hi,
I'm a bit nervous about posting this, as I know I've asked the question before in a different thread, however I feel it's being lost in the excitement of everyone updating to 4.0, and rightly so...
But I I need a bit of help.
Today, when ICS became available, I downloaded it; naturally, and it downloaded fine... however when it came to install it; I'm hitting a brick wall.
It displays the phone shutting down, and then boots into the installation screen; (the one with the black screen, phone and the green arrows; and the progress bar etc) however when the progress bar fills about a third of the way, a red question mark appears where the green arrows were and it boots back into gingerbread.
I've carried out a factory reset on the phone, but it hasn't made a difference.
It's absolutely frustrating the hell out of me; and I've trawled this and other forums, but haven't found a resolution.
I'm S-OFF, via revolution, and have stock recovery.
My CID is HTC__001 and HBOOT is 1.17.1111
I've added a screenshot of the SW info.
Is there any way I could get a bit of help with this please???
I will try to return the favour, somehow.
Thanks in advance, folks

Anyone at all?

I would say its the Revolutionary S-OFF that won't works well with OTA updates.
So first remove the S-Off and then try again.

Tried removing the sd card... It needs it to install the update...
I thought it was down to the bootloader whether or not the ota worked.
Can anyone confirm this?

I flashed the original stock recovery; the HBOOT is 1.17.1111; I thought this was the original... is it not?

I Would recommend flashing your stock ruu first then update OTA ICs afterwards. In that way you'll have stock hboot, recovery and rom. Don't worry about your s-off. Flashing stock ruu won't turn it to s-on. You'll lose root though.

I'm not fully rooted, though; only S-OFF via revo. As far as I know, I'm on the stock RUU... ain't I? I appreciate your help loads!
Here's a pic.

I've just installed it with no problem whatsoever on my xe

After researching the bjaysus out of this; would I be right in saying that HBOOT 1.17.1111 (the one I have) is in fact, revolutions firmware, and 1.27.0000 is the stock version, and the reason why my update is ballsing up?? And if so, is there anyone able to help me change it back? I will buy pints for ya!
Cheers

well, again, did you load stock RUU and then update? why don't you directly flash ICS RUU? painless!

I need help!
Hi,
On my sensation XE that I have got onto s-off I haven't fully rooted it I don't think but its on s-off now and I have superuser access, I am living the the UK and ICS was recently released here so I downloaded it but as I went to install it It all went okay and 4EXT was saying it updated successfully but as my Phone rebooted it hung at the HTC bootscreen, I tried it twice just incase it was an error but it didnt work the second time either and each time it won't turn off so I have to take the battery out and restore it to a backup I previously made and was just wandering what I can do as I would like the ICS update.

I advise NOT to update it. It is a very bad effort by HTC as Wi-Fi does not work anyomre (at least in most of Middle East) I've talked to HTC support and they replied with the usual (We are making a fix for [problem here] as quick as possible) clause....... ****heads.

All you need to do is restarting into bootloader, enter recovery, choose option to choose a file from SD and from there, install manually. No need to S-On.

[Q] Is it possible to completly remove Revolutionary from my phone?

I've checked every possible tag in my mind about this and couldn't find one for Sensation.
Is it possible to revet back to the original state before the Revolutionary. Is it possible to completely uninstall the Revolutionary from my phone?
I'm not talking about the s-off -> s-on
I'm talking about returning the phones software to its original state.
Like it is never installed in the first place.
Thank you.
It's funny because last weekend I wanted to do exactly the same thing.
What I learnt was to go from S-OFF back to S-ON can be quite fiddly and tricky, abd if you mess it up rub the risk of bricking your phone.
In order to get the stock Rom, here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
Now it's just a case of finding which one you are, and your ril and radio.
Good luck
Thank you for your answer. But this is not what I want I can do this already but when I check the bootloader I see the pink "Locked" and it tells me that Revolutionary is still there.
I can go to S-On without any trouble that is not what I am asking.
What I am asking is to be able to get rid of every little bit of coding about the Revolutionary and return my phone to its original bootloader software.
If is says locked then ur good since that's what it said when you bought the phone.

When I get my phone there wasn't such writing. It is the product of Revolutionary.
So it is still there. I want to be able to get rid of it.
I'm not asking this about the warranty purposes. I'm asking this because I've realized that after using Revolutionary I can't install any app from market via wireless no matter what I did. Strangely it is fine to surf and download via mobile.
I know this because this is the Second Sensation I've faced having this problem and I remember some user Leviathan(maybe wrong?) talking about wifi dieing after Revolutionary.
So what I need is to get rid of it and be able to install original bootloader(maybe bootloader is not the right term here I don't know).

i am saying that you probably have a modified hboot, because of the revolutionary sOFF, just like alpharev. you need to flash stock hboot to get everything back, hboot flashing is dangerous, if it goes wrong youll have a brick.

Hi,
Yesterday I tried to install the rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849
I did the S-OFF,root and installed 4EXT Touch Recovery from.
I went into the recovery, and sucssfely "super wiped" the phone, then I started installing the rom itsalf and again, it said all succssfuly installed.
After the reboot it showed the htc logo, then the beats logo and thats it, it stuck on the beats logo. I can turn it off only bay unplugging the battery.
Please help!!!
Update your firmware with the latest one...
Get it from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
Be sure to download the right file base on your cid and mid... If I were you, I would just do supercid...
Don't forget to check the md5sum of the downloaded file also, to make sure its downloaded correctly and not corrupted...

So I can choose, or to update my firmware or to supercid, or I need them both?
And you can call me stupid, but I don't remember if I did supercid or not, and in the guide(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300) it talls that I need to do it just once. based on what I told above, can you tell me if I did supercid or not? and if I do, it will harm my phone in any way if I will do it again?
Thank you vary much!

Hi,
Test whether you have it or not.
Code:
fastboot getvar cid
11111111 means you have super CID
Also,check THIS THREAD.
It's a great guide.
It will not do harm to the phone, its a safer bet when trying to update the firmware...
Just reminder: don't forget to delete the firmware file from your sd card... After installation of the firmware from the bootloader, it will ask to reset the phone. Just take out the battery. And load your sd card in your computer to delete the firmware file...

[Q] Continuous boot loop. Need assistance

Ok, so I've literally just bought the HTC Sensation. It was on 2.3.4 stock and I wanted to update to ICS. Unfortunately the ICS OTA update wasn't coming up for me so I decided to try do it myself
What I've done is S-OFF using the revolutionary tool (nothing else), then downloaded this stock ICS ROM, which supposedly is installed differently from other roms. Followed the instructions, and when it finished it gave me a 'ModelID' problem. I tried booting up anyway and now when my phone gets to the 'HTC, quietly brilliant' screen it plays half the splash audio and reboots, this is all it does continuously.
As instructed by that thread for people who got the ModelID problem I changed the ModelID variable in notepad, rezipped and tried the process again. Now it just loads up the FW, gets to 'parsing file' and goes straight back to the main bootloader screen.
Can anyone help me out? I really hope I'm now not left with an expensive paperweight
If it helps Bootloader now says

Hi,
Have a good read of THIS THREAD
It should help you out.
Thanks. What I gather from that thread is basically I need to flash back to stock.
I'm sorry for being a noob here but as I don't have Clockwork recovery etc is this going to be OK to do?
Do I need to superCID to flash back to stock? Do I need to root? I'm also not 100% sure on what ROM to download. I was a fool and didn't check versions before I flashed. It was 2.3.4 on 02 UK.
Most guides seem to explain how to flash custom ROM's but I'm not sure how much of that applies to me.
Again, apologies for the basic questions. I just want to ensure I don't want to mangle it anymore than it has and most answers I've found assumes other things have been done other than just S-OFF
Right now I'm trying to install clockwork mod, I've downloaded it, renamed it to PG58IMG, put it in my SD but HBOOT doesn't find anything to install/update.. Can I just superCID and then run the RUU_xxxx.exe to get back to stock?
Find my post in general will help you out I will bump it for you

Phew! Managed to get back to stock! Used the .exe for 02 UK.
However, now I'm installing ICS. I got into the boot loop again as I assume this is due to not updating the FW. I updated the FW to the one suggested and I'm downloading a different ICS stock ROM to install now.
If this does fail, or I need to get back to 2.3.4, what firmware would I download to back to original?
If you flash the.correct fw u shouldnt have any issues. U need to be supercid as well

Thanks all, now running ICS stock, fully rooted, superCID and S-OFF.
I tried to 'Thank' a couple of you but I don't think my post count is high enough.
So I'm still not 100% sure, what FW would I flash it back to if I needed to send it back on my insurance/warranty? Anyone know what the 'stock' would have been for an 02 UK HTC Sensation? (not beats). I'm such a fool for not checking these things beforehand.

Hi,
To get back to stock, you can flash hboot 1.17 HERE
I have also got THIS RUU for O2 UK.
I simply went to this thread (after reading so many others) and this was by far the easiest way to get ICS in my opinion.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542192
Hope that helps you
If you flashed the stock o2 UK RUU then you can't use the unbranded ICS OTA to get ICS. You have to wait on o2 to push the update for their FW version

sensation xe gets stuck at beats audio logo - bricked?

HI all,
I have been playing with my Sensation XE recently.
Rooted it using CWM. No s-off as my HBoot is 1.29.
Couple days ago I installed Room Toolbox. Yesterday evening I attempted to do font change. When asked if want to reboot said yes and this is it.
Phone restarts, logo is there, vibration is there and it gets stuck on beats audio logo.
I have tried to look for related threads but no joy in finding any solutions.
I can not do Juopunutbear S-OFF (HBOOT 1.27.0000 with 3.32 ICS Firmware) because I am unable to run this software.
I can not flash a custom ROM because I am not S-OFF.
Any idea how to get it sorted as I am running out of options.

Unlocked again. Phone reboots slower though than it used to. I have a tick noise from camera lens side when pressing back button after taking a photo. dunno if its related.
I will be looking to s-off and mabe put a custom rom later on.
Need to save my GF HDD first as it crashed on me the other day...:crying:
Always Remember if you can get to 4EXT or bootloader it is fixable
I'm a new user to flashing roms. I read and read and read. The most important thing to have is that nandroid backup on a spare sd card in case you accidently format the card. If you can get to bootloader with a back up its almost impossible to brick your device.

[SOLVED] Updated an S-Off Desire S with an official ICS

Hi,
Ok so I guess the problem is that I installed an official RUU on an S-OFF Desire S device. But that is my guess :crying:
After the installation was complete, there was a black screen on the device (with some minor back-light), and it was just stuck on it.
I removed the battery after a while and tried to Turn On the phone, and it showed the white HTC logo, then went to the Black Screen with a little bit of back-light. And stuck.
I can enter HBOOT, but in HBOOT I can't go to Recovery, when I try it gives me the black screen.
I can't mount USB or use Android Flash or adb because the device isn't recognized (Yes yes i have all the drivers and software),
it actually IS recognized by the PC, but not as something that can be manipulated.
I can't do Factory Reset, I tried, it gives me the Red Triangle. and nothing...
I don't think the phone is bricked, because HBOOT is working, and I can install stuff from it if I change it to P88IMG.ZIP.
Is there a chance there is a way to restore a recovery that I made with Clockwork and saved on my PC?
I've been searching this forum and the internet for many hours and can't find the answer.
Thank you up-front for any help!

My DesireS IS perfectly S-OFF.
I am saying this may have caused the problem, because I was installing official RUU ICS on a S-OFF device.

Look at your HBOOT now. Does it still say S-OFF?
Don't assume, LOOK.
Your guess is wrong, there's nothing bad in installing RUU on S-OFF device - only that if you've achieved S-OFF through a hacked bootloader (opposed to "true" S-OFF by XTC-Clip), you will return to S-ON.

What is your HBOOT version?
The most probable explanation is that RUU install never completed properly.
HBOOT Version is 6.98.1002
Note that I tried installing a version of the ROM for S-OFF devices, from HBOOT, and it goes through the installation perfectly but nothing changes.
I also tried installing the official RUU again from PC and it doesn't recognize the device. :banghead:

1) this hboot has write protection and cannot be replaced by RUU (that's why I always recommend to replace it immediately after using Revolutionary, just in case something goes wrong)
2) this hboot supports the old partition layout and has no separate /system/lib partition which is required by the official ICS. This is the reason it is not booting for you
How to solve: flash this bootloader. The system will boot fine after that. If there are issues clear the cache with the command
Code:
fastboot erase cache
