is it possible to entirely disable the dialer on my rooted Inspire. I am looking for a way to remove it or disable it so I can let my kids play games on it without fear of them dialing 911/Emergency.
The phone is deactivated, but makes a nice, though small, wifi tablet. My kids enjoy playing games on it, I just always have a fear of them dialing the Emergency number.
If this should be in my ROM section, please let me know, though i think this is more generalized than that.
Thanks
Dialer shows up in Titanium Backup. AFAIK you need the Pro version to freeze apps. I don't have Pro. You could make a nandroid and uninstall the dialer (or just freeze it if you have Pro).
Oh, Q & A is probably the best place for a question. That's how I understand it anyway.
Disclaimer: This is not advice. It is just something that fell from between my ears.
My son is 18 months old and plays mainly angry birds I just put both tablet and phone on airplane mode. Go to wireless networks should be there or pull down the notification bar n hit the airplane.

Thank you all.. Just froze it in TB. Worked like a charm. Should have thought of that, just trying to make it more difficult than it had to be, I guess.
Thanks again..

Every morning when I get in my car I turn my winamp player and speedview app on. While I am driving I have to switch back and forth between app's to change the song.
What I am wondering is there a way to have a split screen like you can do on your home computer?
Yes before anyone says something I know I should not mess with my phone when driving...I am trying to prevent having to
I am sure someone else would have other needs for an app like this as well. Like surfing the web and texting at the same time...
bump....this has to be of interest to someone....I am willing to donate $50 for this app...

That's one thing I really miss from WebOS, the ability to control music from the notification bar without changing screens. If someone could make this happen on Android it would be awesome.
I forget what it's called, but there is an app that basically gives you an additional home screen that you open/close with the search button without actually leaving the app you are in. You can put a music widget on there and control your music with that.
Edit..... Found it, it's called Quickdesk.

First off, I have to say I love the into video for the site... need to make one for my own.. LOL
I just got the HTC Sensation as a surprise gift from my wife, I was gonna hold out and jailbreak a Iphone 5. I know how to do that.
But here I am with a 14 day return policy from T-mobile, and I want to get this phone in working condition to what I need.
IE I am under the gun to make it work.
This is why I am offering Beer money via PayPal for anyone that can help me fix a few minor issues I have with the phone.
First and foremost is Sound... I am hard of hearing, my wife likes to call it selective hearing because i can tune her out every time she starts to *****...
But honestly the sound levels are just way too low. I bought the app Volume + plus. I can't tell if its working or not....
Second I just need someone to walk me through some general stuff about the phone to personalize it to my liking.
Third is to help me get Yahoo and or any other mail service to PUSH my mail forward, I do a lot of business with my phone, and if I have to wait 5 minutes every time i get an email sucks.
Please email me at Sincityelectric at yahoo dot com and add me to skype if you can help me with this phone.. I'll get back to you in 5 to 10 minutes whenever I can hear the email notification, or when ever the darn phone decides its important enough to send it to me... LOL
Charles
Surely personalizing a phone to your specific liking is something best done yourself. From the home screen click the tab on the bottom, furthest to the right to begin personlizing.
As for syncing your Yahoo account, there's no intergrated syncing system with HTC but ofcorse you can download the app and place it on your screen as an app shortcut

About the sound, have you tried going into Menu>Settings>Call and check the box where it says Hearing aids?
There is no push email app. There was several on the market but all were pulled. Use volume+ and equalizer for sound. I don't suggest the hearing aid option. If you want to fully personalize download a different launcher with a theme. I have adw ex launcher. They have good themes. As well as Go Launcher ex they have a lot of themes as well. Sense itself doesn't have much to customize but the lockscreen and the wallpaper.

The Yahoo Mail app is pretty good and is push. Free, download it from the Market.
Sound. Sound on the Sensation sucks completely. Volume+ and these other appstore still suck. There's no fix for a crappy speaker HTC made the phone with.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Thanks all for some solid advice. I did try the hearing aid, and I did pay for the volume +. Didn't seem to make much of a difference...
D/L the Yahoo mail now and see if that helps.
Now is there anything like installous for Android devices?
I was able to root my HTC Sensation, I was hoping I could get inside and adjust the default Volume ect. Playing music is fine, but the speaker phone is just pure crap...
Again, thank you all for the advice and tips.

Oke folks i have a simple question.
I need a WORKING call policy app, i dont care whether paid or free. I've tried several apps from Android Market but theres one problem with them, neither runs in background or automatically starts after phone restart. Even if the description says they do ... they dont, like Call Manager PRO for instance. All i need from this app is when i set up a time interval, example 8PM-8AM, only certain phone numbers will be able to call me/reach me in this time period, rest will get either redirected or sent back SMS with some random "not available, will call laters" sms. I was getting through out the Sensation apps and setting and theres nothing like that build-in by default, unlike iPhone for example.
Is it realy so hard to find a working app, which doesnt autoclose when i start another app or auto starts after phone restart. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Use root call blocked pro. I have been using it for a month now. Works for me.

I use Call Filter, but it does not have time of day scheduling like you want. I have been using this one for years on 3 different phones and it does what I need it to do.
Maybe this one?

I can not find the app I want. Is there a way to lock out everything except contacts and phone calls? Or a way one of the ROMS can be made to do this. I only use cell phones, no landline. I do not want kids playing/texting when not allowed.

I don't think that's possible. I could be wrong though.
There is. Just get them a dumb phone. But there is nothing that will work 100% as a simple reset will remove anything you do. No apps have been made to make a smartphone not use anything. Well I guess you could get an app locker and then set up a password for each and every single app on the phone and that would make it so a password had to be entered every time the app was used. Other then that yeah get them a normal phone and call it good. To be honest that's what I did. Kids have no need for a smartphone and are not mature enough to only use it when they are supposed to. The temptation is to great to show it off to freinds and what not.
That's what I thought. I was just trying to utilize what I have.

Well you could kill the data by messing up the apns or get an app that will kill the apns at the right times. But nothing that will stop the apps from loading. I know how you feel though. Gave my boys my old tilt2 and fuse and after a few calls from school decided it had to go lol
While my one x is charging, wanted to see if I can find workarounds till root is available for a few things:
Battery percent on status bar (something nice looking but lightweight)
No search button, including assigning long press to an app.
Notification toggles
Using nova, and even in a lot of other apps, missing the menu button. Any suggestions or is anyone else having this issue?
Sure would like to restore some of my app data.. Especially for the few games I have.
Any good and battery friendly lock screen replacement? Last I heard widget locker still wasn't ics compatible.
Any way to block ads on an unrooted phone lol?
Anyone get Google voice working?
Sure was spoiled having root during my entire prior android experience. I've went ahead and got this assuming we'll have root in the not so distant future. Just trying to get by till then. I have a hard time seeing myself with anything else but a htc phone but I'll switch to the s3 if nothing changes by the time its released.. Grr.. sure don't want to.
Ty so much for any help I can get.

As far as Google voice is concerned, still can't get it to take. It changed two of my forwarding numbers but won't switch my voicemail in settings, nor does my call history include my google voice mails.

As far as google voice, I set it up on the phone and it would not work correctly, so I logged in on the pc and went to settings and it gave me a code to type into the phone and it works now, but in the voicemail settings on the phone it still says my carrier but under call forwarding it has my gv number
I think I had to deactivate it then reactivate it

I previously used google voice with my inspire. Just seems that some people haven't had issues while some have. Just wondering why
was wondering about the GoogVoice issue as well. dude... i cannot freaking wait until we get this thing rooted. so many problems on the software side. it's pretty horrendous imo. there's quite a lot i'd like to tweak.

Yes, I've used Apex before. Nova (for me at least on the Inspire) just seemed to be smoother (and I had already paid for the prime version). I might give apex another shot on this phone.
There is a Google Voice thread on this forum. It worked for me. You have to log in on the computer and use a number. After that it works like a charm regardless of what the VM settings on the phone say.

Yeah I made a thread about the notification toggles. Its a pretty nice little app.

Yeah it kind of stinks having to run another app but it is very customizable which is very nice. You can even make more than one toggle bar if you want to.
