semi bricked tablet help me. asus transformer tf101 - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok so i wanted to upgrade my rom for better performance on the tablet. and at first i upgraded mt clockwork mod from 3.1 to 5.5.0.4 and after that i used the super wipe, it somehow deleted everything on the tablet and now i can only go to the cwm recovery . i tried putting the rom on a seperate sd card and installing it and this is what i get
installing: /sdcard/update.zip
finding update package...
opening update package...
(no such directory)
installation aborted
also tried hooking up to computer and doing it but all i get it the pop up "installing device android adb interface" after the installation finishes went to my comp. and was no icon to acess the tablet memory or anything, i also tries to use it as a mtp device yet no luck.
so some one please help me out
here is some additional detail

Wrong section, you should post in Q&A. Cwm 5.5.0.4 only read from internal sd.

See a today PM.

step #1
read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124217

Step #2
Press the Volume Down + Power Key to Power it On. You will see words appear at the top of the screen about pressing the Volume Up key to enter RCK. Do not hit the key and instead let it go to the boot menu.
Once you get into the OS, follow this.

That doesn't apply to the OP. He's not using the broken version.
And there is no OS for him to boot into since super wipe script cleared everything.
What the OP needs to do is learn to use ADB to put files on his internal SD, like baseballfanz already said.

Help With Myns

Hi,
I just flashed myns warm 2.2 on my evo 4. Now I want to install hulu and a few other addons. The developer says to install them like you install roms, so should I just use ROM Manager? If so do I have to backup and wipe my phone first?
Thanks for the help,

pretty sure he meant you need to flash them from recovery and not use rom manager, as it doesnt actually install anything.

Ok thanks for clearing that up. Sorry for the newbie question, but how do you do that?
**edit
actually i just found i guide about how to do it on phandroid, my question is this:
Here is what the guides says:
RECOVERY
PUT ROM ON SDCARD
Before you begin, connect your device using the Mirco USB cable and place the Custom ROM you downloaded onto the Root of your SDCard. This means put the Zip file in the main folder itself. Not in any Sub-Folders of any sort.
STEP 1: TURN OFF DEVICE
Power down the device by holding the Power Button for 2 seconds. Allow it to shutdown completely. Wait about 10 seconds before next step.
STEP 2: BOOTLOADER
Hold down VOL DOWN + POWER until device boots into a White Screen.
Move to RECOVERY by using the VOL DOWN toggle and select by using POWER button.
STEP 3: BACKUP
Make sure to do a NAND backup of your bevice prior to Flashing a ROM. Refer to Section 3.
STEP 4: WIPE
Use the VOL DOWN toggle to move to Wipe and select by pressing the POWER button.
Toggle down to Wipe date factory reset and select by pressing the POWER button.
Once that has complete, toggle down to Wipe Dalvik-cache and select by pressing the POWER button.
Once that has complete, select Return.
STEP 5: FLASH ZIP
Use the VOL DOWN toggle to move to Flash zip from sd card.
Find the ZIP file Custom ROM you want to flash by using the VOL DOWN toggle. Select it using the POWER button.
Your ROM will now be installed onto your device.
STEP 6: BACK TO RECOVERY
After the installation has completed, you will be brought back main menu, use the POWER button to select the first option “reboot system now”. And your device will reboot itself like normal.
Enjoy your new ROM!

Help. /sob

Sorry to post this in the main section. A mod can delete it if necessary. I just hoped I could get some help from an expert right away. I'm quite experienced with this process on my Sensation and never had any trouble. Bought a One S today and...
Using the All in One Tool I flashed the latest recovery, and now it appears to be soft-bricked. I can't figure out how to get into recovery or the bootloader. It just brings up the HTC screen with the red text. Help?
Edit: hold tight... bootloader spontaniously started working again. I may survive.
If your device is off just hold down volume down, press and hold the power button for a little bit before you let it go. Keep pressing the volume down button until your in the bootloader
If it's on (or booting ) just press and hold power and volume down, when it has shut down let power button go but keep pressing volume till it has booted

Now holding the bottom rocker is bringing up Recovery, which is unable to mount storage. I'm trying to get into Bootloader now and try to reflash another recovery. Is the TWRP one any good? I've never used it. CWM is giving me no end of grief on this phone.
Update: Installed TWRP. It's working, but it cannot mount USB either, so I have no idea how to install a ROM on the phone.

ADB requires the phone to be running and have USB debugging activated, while fastboot requires it to be in bootloader. Also try to get this thread out of dev section.

So how do you get something on an internal only SD card when the Recovery can't mount the card? And why can't the recovery mount the card? It's bizarre.

UPDATE:
Reinstalled CWM 5.8.3.1 off of the clockworkmod website. Same issue.
Mounting USB storage never worked for me with CWM, but I have no problems at all with TWRP... You have the right drivers installed right? You were able to mount when it was on your stock rom?

I did everything through the AIO Kit. Yes it worked with stock, and if I remember right it worked once with CWM then I tried to install MIUI. It crashed on boot, and from then on neither CWM or TWRP has been able to mount the storage. Just trick relocking and unlocking the bootloader. No dice.
This thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1630459
Post 8 has instructions. The only one I don't understand is the first one. What does he mean when he says "flash your recovery back to stock." Relock the bootloader, or is there a stock recovery file I need to put in the recovery folder?
In that kit there is a list with the recoveries to the right, isn't stock there?

Nope. Just says CWM, then TRW, then "your own recovery."
HOWEVER, I found what should be a stock recovery, and tried that with the bootloader locked. No luck. Trying it with the bootloader unlocked now.
Update:
The TWR recovery seems to be behaving slightly differently, but it still won't mount. I'll try the entire process again with CWM now.
PS. This 2 minute posting rule for editing posts is super obnoxious and counter productive.
Update 2:
No luck. CWM says the same thing:
E: Unable to open ums lunfile (No such file or directory)
Sorry, then I have no idea :/ I don't think I've seen any others having problems with TWRP not mounting properly

I got it. Apparently the version of TWR or whatever it's called wasn't current. I fount a 2.1.8 instead of 2.1.7 and that worked.
Thanks a TON for the help though. REALLY appreciate it so much. 5 hours on this thing and I finally have a working phone again. =)

Can't access Odin, frozen fastboot

Hi,
I tried to restore my Nexus S (european, GT-I9023) which has a broken power button before sending it to Samsung for repair.
I just screwed my ROM flash using Clockworkmod and now my phone only shows a beautiful Google screen.
When I try to use fastboot screen (using vol+/vol-) nothing moves, and even if it moved I wouldn't be able select any option as my power button is broken. I can't also access Odin (vol+ and vol- pressed when the phone is off) as I can't turn off my phone.
What can I do to flash my rom? May I send it to Samsung anyway?
Thanks for your answers!

He might not be able to. When the power button breaks, it stays in a "on" state and that messed up fastboot as it doesn't let you scroll or initialize properly.

If your rom starts booting (you see a quick flash after initial Google logo) you might be able to ADB from there (while it's not booting and the rom logo is showing, I know weird but often works). Check it out.
Edit: Oh and if you get adb access, then what you want to do is "reboot recovery" to reboot to recovery, and then wipe/flash a rom and whatnot.

You are absolutely right. The phone thinks that the power button is pressed and doesn't let us move up and down using the volume keys.
Also, even if I get adb access after the Google logo, how do I use fastboot mode? I actually wanted to flash a recovery as my Power button doesn't work even in the recovery. Moreover, I can boot into recovery without adb, from inside the rom power menu.
So adb doesn't help here

What recovery do you currently have? All custom recoveries enable you to scroll with menu and home key, go back with the back key and select with the search key. So if you can get adb while it's "not booting" and reboot to your custom recovery, then you can navigate, mount usb and transfer a rom if needed or flash one that is on your phone.
Edit: Also, I was under the impression you couldn't boot your ROM. If you can, what is it exactly that you are trying to do??

Ok let's get this right
What is your goal? Flash a different recovery? Then you can flash a recovery from within something such as ROM Manager if your rom still boots.
Yes sir, my goal is to flash a touch based recovery just so that I can flash new ROMs and kernels without the help of the power button.
Koushik charges for in-app flashing of CWM Touch which is otherwise free. So that's the main issue here. I guess I'll have to live with it

You sir, are my hero... Many thanks for this :highfive: :victory:
If you are flashing a touch version of CWM recovery, I highly suggest v6.0.1.0. The later version (up to 6.0.2.5) have a bug that will make you unable to mount the SD card within the recovery. Otherwise TWRP is very interesting, but backups made with CWM are not compatible with TWRP.
Thanks, I'll try TWRP this time

[Q] How to root GEDified Xoom Wifi 4.1.2

I I have been searching for the net how to root my gedified xoom wifi 4.1.2,
My main objectives are
a) Root my xoom (because it is needed for OCing, but if i can bypass this that would be better)
b) Overclock it to 1.5
I have found 1 way root my xoom but i am stuck. The instruction says open the xoom and press down to display "android recovery" after i press up to enter android recovery it show : Entering Android Recovery Mode Reading ODM fuse:1. BUT after that i get the lying android with a ! on his belly. then my xoom restarts.
Please help me overclock my xoom because when i play Chaos Rings it lags, and its really frustrating.
Up, can someone help me with this?
up
So the fact that you're GEDified, implies you have an unlocked bootloader.
So, Install a custom recovery, I'd recommend this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1235170
Then in recovery flash the zip file I have attached to root. credits to solarnz for making the zip file.
Yup i think i have a unlocked bootloader, can you give me a step by step instruction on how to install the custom recovery and flash with the zip file? (FYI: I'm a newbie in this kind of stuff)
One more thing this is my MAIN PROBLEM

Gedified xoom
I've been trying to access recovery on my gedified xoom and ran into the same problem. Only when i got the sleeping android with the i on the belly, the xoom did not reboot. It was just stuck like that so I pressed power button + volume up button to exit and what do you know it went into the recovery mode. The xoom now says
Android system recovery <3e>
Use volume keys to highlight ; power button to select
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from USB drive
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
Stumbled upon this by accident so dont know if it will work for you but hope it helps.

Ok so I am in the process of doing this myself. I'm kind of doing this off my own back as I cannot get the AIO tools etc to work, but there is a nice way of gaining root on 4.1.2.
So, assuming you have an unlocked bootloader and a PC on Windows do the following:
1) Download the root zip attached above in this thread.
2) Download the latest version with install scripts from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782235
3) Put the root zip onto the external SD Card
4) Run the RUNME file
5) Use option 2 to boot into fastboot
6) Once fastboot is loaded use option 1
7) This will then install the recovery.
8) Power + volume up to reboot
9) Do not let the device boot into android, it will get rid of the new recovery menu, hold power (on the Motorola dual core splash) and get the device to turn off before android starts loading.
10) Once the Xoom is off, start it again, pressing the volume down key rapidly until you see some options at the top, select recovery, press volume up.
11) Welcome to your new recovery! So, we need to install the root update. So select install zip.
12) Choose the root zip, go through the options and install it.
13) Reboot your device
14) Check for SuperSU
Congratulations, you should now have root on your 4.1.2 GED'ed Xoom MZ604
Going put this in a fresh thread I think for any other self proclaimed noobs in my position

Same here... this is driving me mad... everything people describe in other posts just aint happening on my GED wifi Xoom!!
Please explain.......
1) Download the root zip attached above in this thread. -------- where?
2) Download the latest version with install scripts from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1782235 Which file??????
Here is how I rooted my xoom.
follow the directions here but instead of doing step 1 follow this for adb install http://www.support-4-you.com/main/i...ged-adb-installation&catid=40:how-tos&Itemid= it is a 1 click adb install then follow from step 2 on.
When you are done there you can install TWRP 2.4 touch screen recovery (a much better recovery than what you used to root.)
Download TWRP2.4 zip and put on the root of your external sd card. ( if you don't have a sd card we will do it another way just let me know)
Boot into recovery by turning your xoom off.
1. press power
2. when the moto dual core logo comes on wait 3 seconds and press volume down
3. recovery should be displayed across the top press volume up.
You can skip steps 1- 3 now that you are rooted if you download Quick Boot open it, select recovery and the grant Super user permission
4. go to install zip from sd card (just like when you rooted) and find the TWRP 2.4 Zip and install
5. reboot your xoom
6. you now have TWRP 2.4 recovery installed.

A hard question for hard problem!!!

My Power button is not working at all and to wake up the pad I just plug the power cord.
My recovery is corrupted, I am trying with some widgets or other programs to reboot to recovery and it makes normal reboot.
My pad is rooted with stock rom 4.0.4
How can I install a recovery (TWRP)? Mind that I cannot do any tricky boot with vol-up because the power button doesn't work.
Is there any other way to install TWRP? (maybe TWRP.apk)
:cyclops:
