Help With Myns - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi,
I just flashed myns warm 2.2 on my evo 4. Now I want to install hulu and a few other addons. The developer says to install them like you install roms, so should I just use ROM Manager? If so do I have to backup and wipe my phone first?
Thanks for the help,
LiamLC

pretty sure he meant you need to flash them from recovery and not use rom manager, as it doesnt actually install anything.

Ok thanks for clearing that up. Sorry for the newbie question, but how do you do that?
**edit
actually i just found i guide about how to do it on phandroid, my question is this:
Here is what the guides says:
RECOVERY
PUT ROM ON SDCARD
Before you begin, connect your device using the Mirco USB cable and place the Custom ROM you downloaded onto the Root of your SDCard. This means put the Zip file in the main folder itself. Not in any Sub-Folders of any sort.
STEP 1: TURN OFF DEVICE
Power down the device by holding the Power Button for 2 seconds. Allow it to shutdown completely. Wait about 10 seconds before next step.
STEP 2: BOOTLOADER
Hold down VOL DOWN + POWER until device boots into a White Screen.
Move to RECOVERY by using the VOL DOWN toggle and select by using POWER button.
STEP 3: BACKUP
Make sure to do a NAND backup of your bevice prior to Flashing a ROM. Refer to Section 3.
STEP 4: WIPE
Use the VOL DOWN toggle to move to Wipe and select by pressing the POWER button.
Toggle down to Wipe date factory reset and select by pressing the POWER button.
Once that has complete, toggle down to Wipe Dalvik-cache and select by pressing the POWER button.
Once that has complete, select Return.
STEP 5: FLASH ZIP
Use the VOL DOWN toggle to move to Flash zip from sd card.
Find the ZIP file Custom ROM you want to flash by using the VOL DOWN toggle. Select it using the POWER button.
Your ROM will now be installed onto your device.
STEP 6: BACK TO RECOVERY
After the installation has completed, you will be brought back main menu, use the POWER button to select the first option “reboot system now”. And your device will reboot itself like normal.
Enjoy your new ROM!

[Q] how to remove clockworkmod recovery???

ok i am rooted but cannot seem to flash a custom rom. everytime i try to do it it takes me back to the clockwork mod recovery screen instead of the other regular one. i removed rom manager and clockwork off of my sd card but it still doesnt let me do it. i tried manually and using rom manager to flash a custom rom it wipes and restores but when it gets ready to load the rom it stops and takes me back to the recovery screen wtf.....please help me man im ready to throw this ****ing phone....arrrrrghh
You need to have "A" custom recovery installed. Currently there are only two that I am aware of; Clockwork's or Amon's.
You can flash a new recovery via adb but if you are unsure how to do that I would first try to see if you can do it through ROM Manager. ROM Manager is Clockwork's app but if you open it up and scroll to the bottom you will see an option to "Install Alternate Recovery." Selecting this will bring up the option to flash Amon's recovery.
If this is successful, make sure you have the "New.ROM.You.Want.To.Flash.zip" on the root of the sdcard and power down the phone.
Once off, hold the volume down button and then press and release the power button (still holding down the volume down button).
The phone should boot into a white screen with a few lines of text. At this point you can stop pressing the volume down button.
Using the volume up/down buttons to navigate the 4 options and the power button to select, select #2 recovery.
The phone will then boot into Amon's recovery which should be a black screen with green text.
Still using the volume up/down keys to navigate and the power button to select, first go to wipe and do a wipe of "erase data-restore," cache, and dalvik cache.
Once this is complete you can select "Return" to go back to the previous menu and select Flash Zip from SdCard.
Select the ROM.zip you want to flash and when finished reboot the phone.
Marvel at your new ROM
its greyed out. do i have to download amon recovery first?
Copy recovery-RA-evo-v1.8.0.img to the root of your sdcard
start the terminal app or launch adb
su(press enter)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-evo-v1.8.0.img(press enter)
reboot recovery(press enter)
ok i did this and it told me that it wasnt found and then when i typed in the reboot part it said not permitted.
You obviously did not use ok's instructions above, so what instructions or programs are you trying to use? Clockworks recovery always loads a zip file from the sd card as stated above. Also with this method you do not use a computer at all, maybe to get the zip file to the sd card.

Is Amon the factory? I just want to get my phone back to the factory setting. I tried to unroot my captivate using a one-click app, but it didn't remove the superuser privileges. Do I need to remove this clockworkmod first? If so where can I get this AMON file?
Sorry, I know I probably sound like a moron, but I am new to this Android crap.

no Amon is a custom recovery. try downloading the stock RUU from your service provider and using that. i am not sure if that will re-flash the recovery back to stock, but that is the only thing that i can think of to tell you to try.

Nope you don't need it. I've flashed Miui since somewhere around the Beta 2, and each time I came from Stock JF6.
As long as you have the 3 button combo working, all you need to do is copy the Miui.zip to your SD, reboot into recovery mode, and install the zip. Really THAT simple. Just to be safe, I have my important stuff stored on my micro SD, which I remove before I flash

If you're on 2.1, you probably are Stock, you won't need Odin1 Click, unless you want to go back to stock
Very first thing to check, pop out your battery, put it back in. Then push and hold Vol up/Vol down/ and power all at the same time, when you see the AT&T logo come on you can let go. That will be Recovery mode

Ya im pretty sure i used ODIN to return to stock. Thank so much.
IF you can get into recovery using the 3 button method follow these instructions to get you on Miui:
Make sure you have at LEAST 50% battery life left(100% is ideal, but not necessary)
Download the 2 attached files
Unzip the "root" zip that is attached. DO NOT unzip the "Update.zip"
Make sure you have Debugging enabled(Settings/Applications/Development)
Connect your phone to your PC
Open "Root" folder, and click "Galaxy_One-Click_Root"
Follow the directions on the utility
The phone will power off, and power on into recovery. use the vol down(scroll) to reinstall packages, and hit the power button(to select)
Reboot the phone and copy your Miui.zip and the update.zip to your phone, select yes when it asks to overwrite
Disconnect your phone, pull the battery, re-install the battery and 3 button into recovery mode.
Select reinstall packages again, the phone will cycle and you'll do it one more time
The phone will then boot into CWM. You'll scroll down to "Install zip from sdcard"
then select "Choose zip from sdcard"
Select the Miui.zip file, and then scroll down to "Yes" select it and Miui will install
You don't need to root to flash cwm...
Skip the rooting part, and just flash the update.zip in recovery.

And if i cant get the 3 button combo working?
Then use adb to boot into download mode and flash the gingerbread bootloaders to fix your combo, you will NEED the button combos on miui especially for download mode as no software will boot into download on aosp roms.
Adb reboot download is the command
Terminal Emulator will boot you into dl mode (I think). Or just get jiggy with it.
Terminal emulator requires root...
I have root, im trying to do the 3 button combo to open up the DOWNLOAD but i cant get the 3 button combo working. I see theres a fix but i dont know how to install recovery for me to be able to flash ROMS.
Plz help.
Ok, if you are rooted then go to the market and download terminal emulator.
Enter the commands
su (enter) (this will cause a superuser prompt asking for root rights, allow)
reboot download (enter)
Then flash this to fix your button combo.
Do not flash any old "3 button fixes" they are fine on eclair/froyo but will cause a guaranteed hard brick on gingerbread bootloaders. So on the safe side just NEVER use it.

First read this thread
And since you're having connection issues I wouldn't use the bootloader package until you're sure it will flash, cause if it fails again it can hard brick the phone.
this is the stock eclair ROM, if does not contain bootloaders so you can try this as many times as it takes with no worries. btw this will be unrooted when the flash is successful.

[Q] I think I may have unlocked my bootloader twice...

I tried to use the search and google but didn't really find anything helpful. Almost 2 years ago, I unlocked the bootloader back on honeycomb and did custom recovery, root, and custom rom. Then a little while after ICS came out, I did the OTA update.
Today, I reset the xoom back to stock ICS and tried to unlock the bootloader again...thinking nothing of it. The process was taking a few minutes so I decided to get a snack and when I came back it was rebooting.
I assumed that it worked and continued to try and fastboot a recovery image. The recovery image installed and I did another reboot but was greeted with the android welcome screen. Anyways I went through the menus and then tried to enter recovery and it gave me an android laying on its back with and exclamation point above his open chest.
I hard rebooted and can still get into my device, but adb cannot seem to find my xoom anymore. I have tried it on a 64bit desktop and laptop with no luck.
Have I messed up? Or is there a simple fix that I am missing? Thanks in advance for any help!
Can you get into fastboot mode? The second time you unlocked did you have to go through the questions on your xoom again?

Yes, I can get into fastboot by holding the volume down key and the power button. That's fastboot, right?
Yes, I had to go through the menus the second time I unlocked.
sounds like the recovery you try to fastboot did not take or the rom was corrupt.. Which recovery was it? Do you want to be rooted and run a custom rom or completely stock? what xoom do you have(wifi, 3g, 4g)

Download your rom choice, gapps and put them on the root of your sd card. If they are already there skip this step
I like TWRP Recovery the best. Easy to use and lots of options.
download this Twrp 2.4 img to the folder you hve fastboot in
open a cmd prompt in that o that folder
type fastboot flash recovery TWRPv2.4.1.0.img
Once you have verification on your device that this has been flashed, reboot your device by holding volume up + power.
Then 3 seconds after you see the Motorola logo, hit volume down. You should now see "Android Recovery" in the top left corner. Hit volume up to boot into recovery.
You should be in twrp 2.4
select backup/restore and backup your current system
select install and find your rom select asnd then swipe to flash
when done then select home
select install again and find the gapps package and install
when done select wipe dalvick/cache
when done select reboot
select system
you should be good to go.
Well I got through all of the steps, but when I try to boot I get stuck in a loop of the roms boot logo. Is it okay to flash a wingray rom over a stingray device?

I think it is fine just the 3g/4g won't work.
I can get you going again but you are going to be starting with a locked honeycomb device. You will then have to either let it update to ICS or JB or unlock, root, install custom recovery and flash a rom. What xoom do you have 3g or 4g?

The term you're looking for is "flashing a rom", not "rooting a rom". Flashing a rom is not as hard as some people make it out to be, it's a fairly simple process. You'll need a computer nearby, your tablet USB cord, a recovery, and the rom you want.
-Downloading the Recovery-
You'll need to download a custom recovery before you can flash a rom. I personally use TWRP, so the steps that follow will be for TWRP:
1. Go to the official website of TWRP and download the Odin method (It should be the last download on the list) http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2
2. If the download doesn't come with Odin, download it from here: http://odindownload.com/
3. Put your tablet into download mode by holding the Power + Volume down button.
4. Run Odin on your PC and then plug your tablet into the the USB port on your computer.
5. Load the twrp file you downloaded as a PDA and then press Start.
If you have done the steps above correctly, your tablet should reboot and nothing should change.
-Backing up your tablet-
Before you go any further, you will need to make a nandroid backup of your device. Here's the step to do that:
1. While your tablet is on, press and hold the Power + Volume Up (not down) button until you see the "Galaxy Note 10.1" boot screen.
2. You should now be in TWRP recovery. Press "backup" and then pick the location where you want to back up.
3. Start the backup and wait for a few minutes. Once completed, reboot your tablet.
You should also back up your apps using Titanium Backup or some similar app.
-Flashing the rom-
Flashing a custom rom is a very easy process. Here's how to do that:
1. Find the rom you want and download it on your tablet (or download it on your PC and move the files to your tablet)
2. Now go into recovery again (Power + Volume Up)
3. Press "Wipe"
WARNNG: The following steps will wipe your data, make sure you had back it up before proceeding or else you will lose your data!
4. Don't change any of the preset settings and begin wiping your tablet
5. Go back into the main menu of TWRP and press "Install"
6. Find the zip file of the Custom Rom and select it.
7. Press install and wait until the recovery has finish flashing the rom
8. If successful, you should be running a custom rom when you restart your tablet!

I think he needs Root too... other than that, great write up!
link6155 and lilbluemirage ,
I thank you both for the 1. great step by step instruction. 2. Understanding the need of a Newbie who has no idea how to ask proper question!
Since I heard that Sammy is going to release long-waited 4.4 update (After I posted the question), I decided to wait a bit longer before I go through with flashing by following your kind instruction. I still am not sure whether I should root before flashing it or after, though. Anyway, I will come back if Sammy fail me (sigh) and will definitely follow your guidance.
Thanks again and Have a wonderful day!
