Looking for Keyboards with shortcut/macro features - General Topics

I've been using Keypurr lately (which as far as I can tell is now abandoned). The 2 features that I'm using a lot are:
- shortcut/macros, When you can program things like:
m - Matthew
x - Alex
dua - Damm you autocorrect!
etc
- sliding on letter to get alternate symbols, INSTEAD of holding a key
For shortcuts, I'm aware of Keypurr, SlideIT, Smart Keyboard PRO. Can anyone tell me if there are others with the same function? Not having any luck searching for the feature, but it could be under a different name.
For sliding, I'm only aware of Keypurr and Touchpal. Anyone know of others?
Thanks for any help.

Yes I have been using this since version 1 and no doubt it is the best SIP I have ever used. I have a TyTn II and ever since I started using TouchPal I rarely find myself using the slide out mechanical keyboard of the TyTn II.
However presently the version 2 is available only through PayPal and PayPal does not operate in all countries like my place, Pakistan. I have requested them to release this excellent program simultaneously on the regular software sites such as Handango and PocketGear from where we can purchase using the regular credit card. They say they are [email protected] already working on this.
They offer a free version as well. One of my friend tried the free one and found it is also very powerful. But I still bought the pro edition right after i saw the video how you can resize the sip dynamically. very smart approach...
another thing i love is the dynamic language switching. i use two langs and touchpal offers a perfect way to switch between them without penalty. love it...
I spent alot of effort trying to find the perfect on screen keyboard.
(since coming from the treo)
I really liked the one that came with the touch, but I like TouchPal even more.
2 major things that caused me to settle on TouchPal;
1. Two letters per key,
(I just can't get the speed out of small, individual letter keys.)
2. It doesn't interfer with the predictive text like xt9 does with the touch keyboards (20, 40, or Keypad)
What's the difference between 20key and TouchPal?
What's the difference between 20key and TouchPal? They look pretty similiar.
TouchPal seems pretty cool, but I've hit a snag. I notice this when typing in the TO field of a text message. With the default Touch Keypard (that ships with the HTC Touch) in line names from the address book pop up. Say I put the letter T in there, my friend Tom will show up as an auto completion with the phone number.
Is this feature possible with TouchPal?

There's a much better choice, an innovative software keyboard that seems to be the best available, and I did try many, I've attached the cab here.

[Q] Bluetooth Keyboard Choices - Genius or Sony

Hi,
I am looking for a bluetooth keyboard that could bring along with me on the road in case I need to work out of office. Usually I'll need to use native email client, remote access through RDP for general OA tasks.
Anyone tried any of the bluebooth keyboards below, and could share with me about the user experience?
Genius LuxePad A9000
Sony Tablet S Bluetooth Keyboard
Thanks

Very interesting. I also need a bluetooth keyboard for my galaxy tab 7300.
I have a question, does these keyboards support multi-language support?
What layout uses the bluetooth keyboard, its own, or system?

The Samsung input method seems to "fix" some of the mappings. For example it allows the swedish ÅÄÖ to be typed on a swedish bluetooth (or USB) keyboard but not everything is mapped correctly. Also the CTRL and ALT keys are not working for me when the Samsung Input method is used.
I do not know if it works better or worse on other layouts but switching input method to "Android Keyboard" will make it use Standard US layout and makes CTRL and ALT work again.
I've written apps that overrides the US layout for several non-US layouts and that is what I use with my Swedish/Finnish bluetooth keyboard (requires a rooted device).

I want to use AnySoftKeyboard layout with Lithuanian characters such as ĄČĘĖĮŠŲŪŽ, because it is most confortable to use.
So I'm wondering if it work with bluetooth, USB keyboards.
kallt_kaffe: I will buy your app if it would be for lithuanian language

Send me a photo of a standard Lithuanian keyboard where all keys can be seen and I'll see what I can do.
This is LT layout that I'm using on PC and wish to have on my tab. I appreciate your effort.

I need more info than that. Like for example what characters are used when SHIFT is pressed and when ALT-GR is pressed.
I found this http://qnx.projektas.lt/en_ltkbd.html
I suppose it it the top one you want? Where numbers are available when holding down the ALT button. Perhaps I can add both variants.

I want this layout "lt_LT_numeric – Lithuanian numeric keyboard", because it is most commonly used.
"The most widely used layout at the moment. Lithuanian letters occupy and replace numbers in upper row of keyboard. Use of Alt Gr key often eliminates need switch between layouts."
Best from Lithuania, I will spread the word.
p.s. this weekend I was visiting Stockholm on a day trip

A little follow up on this thread. The old app that required root is now obsolete and has been replaced with an app that does not require root and comes with over 30 different predefined layouts out-of-the-box. It is also possible to create a whole layout from scratch or modify one of the predefined ones.
You can read more about it here: http://www.apedroid.com/android-applications/external-keyboard-helper

[dev] suggestion for keyboard

Hello XDA Developers,
I just giving an idea here for any devs interested.
Why not making a android keyboard that have this functions.
1) I think letter placement customization is cool and i don't know there are other keyboard that let the user customize the placement of the letters [if there is, please point out to me because there are many keyboard apps in Play Store and i don't manage to try them all].
2) Theme is not very important from my point of view, make the keyboard look fancy with glossy color is ok. maybe let the user customize the color of the keyboard buttons also nice since the users do not need any theme.
3) Phone keyboard and QWERTY keyboard function. For most people with large screen does not has problems with QWERTY keyboard but for small screen devices there are. There are only some keyboard that gives Phone keyboard functionality and I love Phone keyboard because I love to message single handed.
Well, and also other things that many functions included in other keyboards in Play Store like swipe, dictionary, etc. etc. etc....
If anyone wants to add something here in this thread, feel free.

[APP][4.3+] BeHe Keyboard - Programming & Hacking

Hello XDA,
I'm Vlad Todosin (aka Vlath) and maybe some of you know me for the development of the open-source browser BeHe ExploreR. Today I'm introducing to you a new open-source app, but this time a keyboard. I've tried many of the keyboards with special keys available on the market, but all of them have a downside (at least from my point of view) and that's the design and the ease of use. This is what inspired me to create BeHe Keyboard. This keyboard features three different keyboard faces (normal QWERTY, a D-PAD with special keys and a programming face). All of this faces can be changed with a touch of a button, this is what makes it easy to use as a default keyboard, without the need to switch between input methods when you want to do something new. Also, the arrow keys from the D-PAD face can be useful at regular typing.
So, with that being said, I'd let the app speak for itself. Remember, this is just the first version, more updates to come. I love to hear from you, so if you have any feature request, just post it here.
Also, BeHe Keyboard is open-source, so if you think that it's spying, go check the source, and you'll see it's NOT.
Contributors are welcome. BeHe Keyboard can be easily built with Android Studio, unlike the other open-source keyboards that are hard to build. My goal was to create a keyboard app that's useful and also easy to modify.

CHANGELOG FOR VERSION 1.0.1b:
- Fixed shift key bug. The double tap on the shift key was not working properly (was not setting locked caps). With this update, the bug is fixed.
Enjoy!

It would be nice to have the option to enable the top number row on the standard keyboard layout.

Hi @Vlath Behe Keyboard looks very nice, although i think this some improvements.
Just some details and feature request.
* The keyboard don't show variants from some leters, work's with A (Á, etc), but not for N (ñ) by example.
* Check how looks for me the default Android Keyboard..
http://i.imgur.com/nh9Rkws.png
.. and so looks current Behe Keyboard
http://i.imgur.com/9OcNMRo.png
I like this uses less screen space than Android Keyboard, that is nice. but..
add some details like number upper letters, check Android Keyboard have Q(1) W(2) E(3) R(4) T(5) Y(6) U(7) I(8) O(9) P(0)
* add a bit more of design, is a bit "confusing" just view letters on a black space, make some dark gray buttons borders or something. again, compare with Android Keyboard
* I know this keyboard is specially for programming, but..
(check again the images) while Android Keyboard is moving a bit the screen, Behe Keybord is making the input text space an full text box.
I think this is wrong, or at least must be as an option.
Regards
any plans to release on f-droid store?
Nice work ... But i miss functions from hackers keyboard.... You can look at in play store. Anyway awesome job keep developing . I'll keep it as a second keyboard :good:
Just some pictures for some ideas
Sent from my SM-A300FU using XDA Labs
@Vlath
Check out GitHub, I've added a translation to Portuguese (BR)
Some arrays are unstranslatable, if you're not using them as keys inside the app, I'd like to translate them too.
I love the keyboard, two suggestions. A vibrate on tap option, and key borders. I have huge thumbs so my accuracy is a little off.
Good! But more languages is better And more theme too
Impressive, I've been wanting something similar and with low ram usage. Problems I've encountered: When holding i button it makes the keyboard unpressable, sometimes keys get struck writing same letter forever. Also I would like to have more letter variants. (e.g. Ö)

I miss that too.
Also some vibration as option would be great. Other then that I really like your keyboard, thanks for it and I hope you will post it on F-Droid also.

[APP]CookTek Touchpal v4.8 modding request?

Hey guys,
I have a keyboard that I really like. I was wondering if I could enhance it somehow with your help by removing several screen buttons that annoys me, like "help" button above keyboard for example, or add additional language with 3-4 special characters that's not existing in this version at the moment.
Is it possible to perform such modification out of existing apk?
Thanks!
