If it bothers you to much, just do a nandroid, wipe everything, and flash the rom again.

It should not be a big problem, the sensor sends infrared signals out that became vissable after a change in kernel, or could be becouse of the pain in front pf the sensor is scratched off. Try flashing a diff kernel, of that does not work full wipe, or contact htc.

hmmm, i had a feeling it was probly because of a kernel change or maybe wen i upgraded to the radio for ics. thanks for your replies but the issue remains.

Clockwork 3.0.2.5 Bug?

Did anyone else notice that their LED will faintly flash red after flashing 3.0.2.5? It has to be real dark, but I can see it flickering. Anyone else?
Not happening with mine in a pitch black room. Might wanna make sure you removed the previous version completely. It's in the options somewhere.

Do you mean the light shows in general?... or only when you are in CWM?
If the former, I am still on 3.0.2.4 and have seen this faint red light myself when on a phone call on occasion. So it would not be a new bug with 3.0.2.5
This is the first time I have noticed it. I tried re-flashing CWR and there is still a faint red light.
Not positive, but I think that's the proximity sensor's light you are seeing. Try to watch it through another phone's camera if you have one handy, the sensor should detect the infra-red (near infra-red?) and it should look brighter.
Just tried it myself and it is indeed the infrared from the proximity sensor that you are seeing. As to why CWR would be using the proximity sensor, that is a whole other issue =)
I also noticed this on my phone then walked over and grabbed my wifes bolt that is stock and not rooted and hers does the same thing. Very faint red flashing light. Hers is stock so it must just be the phone
The infrared sensor will pulse intermittently to see if the phone is near an object or not. To tell if the phone is by your face, upside down, in your pocket, etc.. Don't worry pulses of this sensor don't take much juice at all. I'm just surprised you saw the light at all lol most people wouldn't be able to.
Maybe it's my new glasses
I'm glad it's just not me and/or my rooted phone.
I only get that light to show up when I got Skype running in the background.
faint led flicker in earpiece
mine is doing this too, but I don't have "clockwork"-i don't think. I've noticed that it's not the "main" led, but it is right beside it!
anyone have any ideas about what this could be!?
it is, indeed, skype, and i believe it IS the proximity sensor. why?... i have NO idea, but i feel better now that i know the correlation and that I'm not alone!
I found out the proximity sensor AND Skype was the cause of my battery issues.
Obviously nothing to do with CWM.

Has a simpler flashlight fix been found?

I was modding my defy pretty frequently a few months back, but got really busy and put it off. Im running jboogies final froyo 4 and I've got the dreaded weak flash. I've searched all over, but the only thing I can find involves reflashing a different ROM. I'm pretty happy with my setup now and would like to keep it but I really miss my flash. Any suggestions?

lol? dreaded flash¿? therefore I also have a low flash how can I fix this? I've flashes lots of roms and I've always had the same flash (with the last cyanogenmod the torch stuff it doesn't do the bright flash like it did in the nexus one) is this normal? does the defy has a weaker flash than the nexus one? 'cause if not, I also have the flashlight problem beeing too weak
No, my flash was fine when I was stock. It's not green or blue like some other people's. It's just not bright enough to make a difference in photos.
No solution here either, and I have the same "very weak" flash thing going.
I've tried going back to stock flashes/different roms, to no effect. It stays weak.
Any other ideas / fixes?
Mine used to be green ( on both ym defys) then after changing to liquid arc rom they where slightly weaker but normal and now after one going to CM7 and the other to barbones there both fine no idea what changed.
my flashlight is gone since i tried DefyFroyoSense several times, because its based on the Chinese Froyo leak, the first one. It damages the flashlight. I cant turn it on using apps, it flashes a very weak and out of sync light when i take pictures. Thats the only way to know that the light isnt 100% damaged.

Same as me, very weak light with a green finish, waiting for official 2.2 to send it to repair.

[Q] Backlit buttons not working correctly

Ok,
So my home row buttons (Menu, Home, Back, Search) do not light up as they should! if the room is dark they will not work at all! and ive never seen them work in a dark room! However every day in the late afternoon when im in my living room and the phone is charging they will just light up! (at first i though it was a refection or just ambient light in the room so i grabbed the phone and ran into my closet and WOW they light up!) so i figured it was something with my settings so i reset my phone to new and still same problem, then said WTH and rooted and updated to 2.3.4 (best thing ive done with it so far!) and have the exact same problem... So then i decided to try another charge (brand new out of the box 1 day old!) and the lights will do the same and light up when its moderately light in the room but then they wont turn off...
So a chat with samsung and they tell me that these phones dont have that feature! so off to verizon and lets test a few more devices!!! and what? at some point they lit up also in inappropriate lighting conditions, so after puzzled VZW people i consult samsung again and they tell me yet again that the featured isnt offered on this phone, so my guess is that its a software flaw?
any ideas?
anyone having lighting issues?
thanks
Wow, that's a lot of exclamation points. I don't know what you're talking about, mine work fine

Here are 2 pictures that show what im talking about, i will try to get a few more
Odd, works fine for me. Is it possible that you have a screen protector covering your light sensor? In the day time the back lights are off, then if I cover the light sensor they come right on.

The light sensors (which controls auto brightness and the backlights on the hardkey) is broken in the kernel for Gingerbread..
If this is a huge issue for you you might want to consider going back to Froyo

But he said it happened with the new phone and the verizon display one...?

It might even be broken on the stock Froyo. All the people who said it's working fine for them right now are running custom ROMs, kernels, firmwares and all that jazz. Maybe it was fixed through one of these custom updates. I dunno.
I just got a brand new Charge (thanks to the Fascinate swap program).
The bottom buttons do not light up. This is fresh out of the box.
I also do not see any way in which they would light up - the icons appear to be painted on to the physical buttons. No underlay for LED backlight.. but I suppose there is one if custom ROMs allow for it.
Which I will know shortly

there is no screen protector or case on either of the phones, and both phones were cleaned well to make sure nothing was hindering the sensors.

The problem is not only to the one that is rooted and flashed but also happens to the 2 at verizon that i inspected (brand new out of the box) and the 2nd one that i have that is also brand new with no mods

I think that the kernel for this phone was just snatched and quickly edited (by samsung) from another product and this is one thing that they havent been able to fix and figure out, because the woman at samsung told me
(Ruby: As your phone has physical keypads, there is no light feature available for keys.
Visitor: the small row of buttons (4 to be exact) at the bottom of the phone should be back lit in low light situations, however they occasionally light up but only in moderately to brightly light rooms
Ruby: I am sorry, there is no feature available on your phone.
Visitor: im sorry but i can prove that this phone does have back lit keys
Ruby: I am sorry, your phone home key rows do not have light option)
but we all know that the button do actually have a lighting option and samsung is just trying to delete the function but isnt 100% successful..
I don't know what to say, they work properly for me. This includes when I was fully stock EE4, as well as now (deodexed, rooted ROM, PBJ kernel, voodoo enabled).
droid charge doesnt have backilights in the keys.. wth are you all talking about... no wait there they are! barely. what th! where did they go again?
Stock froyo from the factory... Daylight = button lights off; sensor covered (night) = button lights on.

capacitive buttons not lighting up

I find with my phone that the capacitive buttons do not light up all the time, it seems from boot to boot that it will sometimes work and sometimes not but with bricked kernal it works all the time and in the recovery it works all the time as well.
Anyone else getting this problem ??.
By design, they turn on and off depending on the amount of the light in the area. If you were to be in a dark place, then they will light up. If you were outside during daytime, then they would turn off as you can see the buttons just fine without them lighting up.
that doesnt seem to be the case for mine, its either on or off, i have not noticed it dynamically change depending on the condition of lighting.
Have you flashed a custom rom? If so, consider reinstalling the rom or swapping it altogether. If you've modified any system files or flashed any customization zips, that could be the culprit too. I know some roms out there offer "tweaked brightness thresholds", I believe this could contribute as well.
yea its ARHD i update every couple weeks or so.
Are you on ICS? If so playing around with the brightness settings should fix it, put in on auto brightness as well.

I think i have figured it out, it seems that if i boot or reboot my phone in the light it will be off but if it put it under a blanket or somewhere dark it will switch the capacitive lights on. It only seems to switch between on and off when booting/rebooting so do other peoples switch on and off dynamically while the phone is still switched on ??.
I have tried all roms including ICS and the same scenario happens with all.

Soft keys off

Soft keys work but do not light up. Iam on stock TMobile ICS
Did you try to reset the device? Its worth a try to see if it might help fix this problem.

Hmm.. Were there any recent software changes to the device?
Get Z-device test on your phone and test the light sensor on the phone by holding it near a bright lamp or sunlight and then covering it with your finger.
The light sensor is located at behind the black strip towards the top of the screen to the left of the HTC logo.

Im having the same problem. Since i rooted the device the backlights do not work but the soft keys themselves do. The light sensor appears to be working. It was at 100% under a strong light and when i covered it with my finger it dropped to 2%
Had the same problem, go to brightness settings change it to automatic, the lights go on, then back to manual and leave a bit below the maximum, the lights stay on and now works.
I found a software solution for this problem
Hello. My soft keys (T-mob Sensation 4G, stock ROM, ICS) would not light under *any* circumstances and I have tried everything suggested here and elsewhere after scouring the Internet and finally happened upon a thread that mentioned this guy's utility.
Now happily soft-keying in the dark and the app has endured several battery-pulls and restarts without a hitch.
HTH someone else. Cheers.
