Change native lockscreen? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

If this question has been answered before then feel free to ignore, I'll be doing some searching on my computer about 20 hours from now, but don't recall ever seeing this asked.
What I'm hoping to do is replace the native lockscreen with magic locker. I have magic locker installed with the ics theme, but sometimes fails to show when I hit the power button and instead I get the native lockscreen. I tried converting to system app but that changed nothing.
So I'm wondering where the native lockscreen is located and how I could go about replacing it? Or how to put edt tweaks into a rom so I could use the 4 tab lockscreen. I'm on icbinb and wish to change the native lockscreen, not rom. So please no suggestions to use a different rom, either an intelligent response or say nothing at all.

When you say native lockscreen are you referring to the code/pattern lock screen?

I mean the built in lockscreen. The puzzle glass one. I want to completely remove it and replace it. Because when you simply replace it with an app it sometimes still comes on instead of the app.

I can try and take it off and make a flashable for icbinb
if you ain't first you're last

the 2 tab stock one, well I can help you with that.
download apktool or appmanager.
Decompile android.policy.jar
go to smali/com/android/internal/policy/impl.
Look for LockPatternKeyguardView.smali
search for "Glass" case sensitive.
It will take you somewhere around line 1000. I don't remember where.
Replace it with "Tap" case sensitive.
close and save
recompile the android.policy.jar.
You can put it in your rom or adb push or make a cwm package.
Just when you are booted, go to settings-->display and turn off puzzle lock otherwise every time you get a notification, it will switch back to the glass lockscreen.

Will this work on a stock ROM?

[REQ] Invisible pattern lock

Found this sitting in the N1 forum. What are the chances we can get something like this on the DX?

You dont need an app to do this, just uncheck the "Use visible pattern" in you security lock settings.
That doesn't get rid of the dots on the page though. Only the pattern as you drag your fingers. I want to hid the actual points of contact as well.
Another problem that I've found with this is that you've got to go through two slider screens before the pattern lock when using Widget Locker. What would be ideal is to have an invisible lock pattern embedded into a program like widget locker. That would be awesome and worth every penny if you ask me.

Try replacing your existing framework-res.apk with the one I have attached to this post.
Make a backup first as always! (you could simply rename your existing framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk.orig)
adb push this to /system/framework/
yea you pretty much have to edit the lock screen pngs that are in your framework-res.apk and make them transparent.

Modding Revolution from RetroKid for Mesmerize

Hi All,
I've been trying to figure out how to theme by taking a theme apart and then comparing stuff to my phone. I got "most" of the Revolution Theme working properly on my Mez. It was taken from the Fascinate Theme Thread...
The only thing that I've found that has a force close is trying to go into sound settings...
Anyone know where that file is in the theme pack that I need to change?
I've attached a screen shot for your review of what it looks like.
OK, I got it working. I had to pull out my Settings.apk, make the changes to it and then put it back into the package. Seems to be working well now.
The only thing that hasn't changed that I want to change is the lock screen. Anyone know what files specifically need to be modded to change that?
Anyone interested in trying it out? Remember to do a backup before giving this a try!
I'm running SuperClean .2 with a voodoo kernel as a reference point
Put it on the root of your SDcard and then boot into clockwork and choose install Retrokid_Revolution_DJ05_V3.6.mez.zip.

I'll give it a go.
As a point of reference:
Variant of the voodoo kernal
Pick-n-Pack rom
Hope you like it. I have to figure out how to fix the lock screen though.

I'll be looking at it too, as this goes along with what I'm doing while I'm on vacation anyway. I am not 100% sure, but I think the lock screen and a few other things that you are going to want, are going to be in the framework.res.
Another note, this uses aosp mms.apk which has a problem still with sending and receiving picture messages.
I got it installed. (Sorry it took so long, I didn't realize I was at 3% battery when I posted)
Installed with no issues, however I'm getting a big difference in the battery meter. My widget says 65%, the rpm battery gauge says 80%.
Also, it reinstalled Mail, which I had taken off in the Pick-n-Pack. Was that in the zip?
Yes, mail was included as one if the customized apps. Hmmm, you didn't want mail? Not sure how to remove that. Do you liked it? I live the font and different icon scheme.
The mms its a problem but I was going that once it got fixed that I'd be able to update it.

I unzipped it, system-app, and took out the programs I didn't like. All in all it looks pretty good. I will use it again when the mms issue is fixed (I send A LOT of picture messages)
Updated File - Screenshots
Got it perfect now. I didn't like the battery meter in the first try.
Check it out

Just as a thought, you might want to change the name slightly. The DJ05 part of the name has to do with the release version. The Mesmerize is currently on DI14. Nothing critical right now, just confusing if and when we start getting updates and things need to be changed for themes to work with different ROMs.
Great work, btw. Glad to see others are working on stuff for the Mesmerize.
Good point. I'll make the change to the file name.
Thanks!
So, in order to install this all I need to do is flash it in clockworkmod recovery after booting in recovery mode? I almost have this flashing down, but haven't tried a theme yet...

Yes, make a backup using Clockwork or Rom Manager first, then boot into Clockwork recovery. Scroll to Install from zip. Select "Choose zip" then navigate to it on your SD card. Select it and it will install. Let me know how you like it.
I will for sure, thanks man.

Dude this is awesome! I love the notification bar (transparency, GPS/wifi/etc icons, black, signal & battle icons), and the font, and the way the texting looks (even though I only use Google voice) and the search bar, and stars and checkmarks, and loading icon.
A couple issues I have with it though:
+When you hit the menu button, its impossible to read the black text on the black background the text should be white or grey I think
+ the battery meter isn't very accurate (according to "battery status"). I would love if the battery could be more accurate, because the app I have right now has almost the same icon for telling how full the batt is (only yours looks way cooler, and its on the other side of the notif bar, which I like)
+Then the last thing is this font, which I think there's something I can do to fix. I like the font on my keyboard and in menus and stuff, but I don't really want it on every webpage and text. I use dolphin browser, you know what I could do?
Last thing, is it possible to make Google voice look like the normal texting app, or different in any way? I'm not a huge fan if the way it is now.
Overall I really like it, and I'm keeping it : ) thanks!

Trying this out on my Super Clean .3 rom with voodoo kernel.
Can confirm that this works and is sexy; I agree with the three gripes above though. Can't read the menu buttons, battery isn't perfect, and the font is a bit annoying. If possible the status bar might look a little better with a slight gradient, though that might just be the wallpaper or whatever. Overall, this is a good theme.
-herpderp-
A couple more spots I've noticed the font is a hard color...
-android keyboard, white squares appear above the letters you press with no letters in them.
-on notification bar, most apps have white text and is a bit difficult to read on grey background.
-theres another one that I forgot where now....
And since I flashed this my YouTube isn't working, and I can't download from mediafire.... haha I think that might be a fluke, but Its weird: s

Looking for Info on ROM Modification

I'm looking for info on how to get into modifying ROM's. I can do the basic stuff like replacing system apps, kernel, modem so far.
Looked at this thread but it wasn't that informative and apparent not entirely correct ether. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885048
Things I'm looking for/to-do:
-List of apk's that are absolute necessary to have all ASOP functions work. OR a list of everything that can be removed and have all ASOP functions work.
-Change the time on MMS from received to sent.
-Change system settings defaults
-Faster pull down/up notification bar animation
Things I would like to do but not sure are possible (where should I look to try):
-Change functionality of button/button long press. ie. use google's gesture search when long pressing menu instead of default search.
-When using the "back" button to exit an app auto kill it. Do not kill/act normal if exiting app using "home" button.
-Remove app icons from notification bar that are running in foreground. ie. tasker
-Block apps from running on startup/in background. Yes I'm aware of autorun manager
-Disable lockscreen toggle, possibly add to lock screen chooser? yes I know there is the app no lock.
-If a text message fails to send keep retrying till it does send. (This really bothers me, my old "dumb" sony ericsson did exactly that)
I would like to minimize the use of apps that change functionality as much as possible and would like to make the modifications directly to the ROM.
Question, when using an apk that is modified like the themed black market apk, I assume it does not get updates through the market?
Is it possible to put widgets on the lock screen without the use of widget locker?
I'm guessing there are threads for these, if someone could point me to them I would appreciate it, if not I'll probably find them eventually
Accurate battery mod
Extended power menu options
Lock Screen Chooser
I plan on starting on already made roms from xda to start with.
I would greatly appreciate any info or direction.
Thanks
Did you happen to look at the sticky on "how to create ROMS" located at the top of this forum?
I did, and I did forget about it. It does help a bit, now I can decompile apk's.
Could someone point me to the file in the mms.apk that would contain the value to change the received to sent?
In general there is tons of files in the rom's and apk's, how does one go about locating the files that contain the info that one would like to change?

That's the fun part.
I use the blind squirrel method myself.
Sent from my Captivate.
lol, at 1,250 files for one apk..... how many blind squirrels does it take?
So far I've found something different between a "stock" mms.apk and a mms.apk that displays the sent time.
Code:
Stock mms.apk:
<string name="sent_on">%s</string>
Sent mms.apk:
<string name="sent_on">Sent: %s</string>
Though assume this just means one has the "sent" prefix and one doesn't...

[request] htc slate skin lockscreen

I'm looking for the rectangular lockscreen associated with the HTC slate skin. anyone have that? the normal htc lockscreen is a curved arc... not that one.
You can change the skin and there's rectangular ones

I should have been more specific. I'm on a sense less rom. I'm looking for an apk or whatever. I copied over the htc lock screen apk but it was the arc shaped one.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
Here's a .zip with the 4 lockscreen images from Rosie when the slate theme is applied. Just to be clear, this is ONLY 4 of the lockscreen images and I'm not guaranteeing these are all of them, or that if you yank these and drop them in a different lockscreen that they'll work. Best of luck to you
I guess I need more hand holding. How do I apply those skins? Do I need to unpack the apk and drop them in?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
Well, for one, you can't just carry over the lockscreen, you need Sense in order to use it. I provided the 4 main images from the theme, from there you might be able to open up the corresponding apk on whatever ROM you're using, and replace the lockscreen images in there with the ones provided above, but the names of the files might change, not really sure.
If you knew what apk the lockscreen images were in, and what the filenames were, you could probably get away with a morph for use with metamorph, but without knowing that stuff it wouldn't really do a lot of good.
A better question might be "Hey guys, I have **ROMNAME* rom and I'm looking to edit the lockscreen, can anyone point me in the right direction?"

good advice. I'm using cognition senseless rom. I pushed the htclockscreen.apk on from his sense rom zip into the system/app folder and that's about as far as I got. I opened up that apk and looked around but didn't see anything that made sense to me.

I had the exact same problem as you did trying to get that wallpaper back...
I really do like it a lot & I think it's the best of the entire bunch that is included in that ROM.
The long answer to your question is in this thread, second post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480248, which states,
How i can get the blue eye (or any other) wallpaper again?
Which ROM was it in? Do you still have the .zip?
- Pull the system/app/Launcher.apk
- Unzip it. Yes, apk is a zip file.
- Look in res/drawable-hdpi folder.
Although I did manage to open the apk file mentioned above, I did not see that particular image at all. I even tried a bunch of other files, and of course, it wasn't there, either.
Needless to say, I managed to find the wallpaper I was looking for on another of lumin30's posts and I saved it to my harddrive.
*************************************************************************************************************************
I stand corrected. If you follow lumin30's instructions, (written directly below this post), then you will indeed find that exact file. It is called, "default_wallpaper.jpg". From what I can tell, it's the only wallpaper that is in that file.
*************************************************************************************************************************
I know that some images need to be resized depending on the launcher that you're using. I kept having problems with my wallpapers fitting correctly when I was using Go Launcher EX.
I read around on the Internet & found a post suggesting an app called Wallpaper Wizard ii. It's available on Google Play Store for free. The good thing about that app is that you can use it on whatever image you want.
Before you give up, perhaps you should give that a try.
The default wallpaper is found in the \system\framework\framework-res.apk.
Then in framework-res.apk --> \res\drawable
I tried the picture you posted but when I try to use it as my background, it's a blurry and not the whole picture

Got any more backgrounds? I'm looking for brighter ones since all icons in VB are kind of dark. Thanks!
does anyone know how to put the whole background in?? because it forces me to crop it and i dont want that
Whenever I used Wallpaper Wizard ii, I just set it to "scale" & it looked good to me.
I can't tell you for sure what all that did, but I was satisfied with the results.
Good luck & don't forget to let us know if you find something that works better for you.
Put the wallpaper in framework-res.apk in the res/drawable-hdpi folder then reflash the rom
i found it, do i just post it anywhere in the folder??

Couldnt he just push the .apk to /system/framework and boot to recovery and fix permissions? That would avoid having to reflash and download apps right?
