if someone could link me to how or what i need to do to have the right CWM
thanks

You dont necessarily have to flash in cmw red. Its just prefered. I have no issues flashing those same roms from cmw green, including my own rom.

I have both red and green CWM on my Infuse.
I originally had CWM green from Rom Manager just like you had.
I flashed my kernel to the CWM community kernel v8 to get CWM red (used SGS Kernel Flasher available from market). Note, that in the process it replaces the modded 3e recovery.
CWM red (v2.5.13) is voodoo-enabled. Read up on voodoo lagfix if unfamiliar.
I can still get into green CWM if I choose the option directly from ROM Manager.
Manual recovery boot ( VOL + and VOL - and POWER ) goes into CWM red.
I went to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437548 (sticked on the Q&A forum).
I followed the instructions for Coming from FROYO 2.2 --- OP recommends flashing CWM community kernel before flashing any ROMs.

This question was answered like a week or two ago, search and you would find this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307787
After you have 3e and CWM installed you need to select "reinstall packages" in blue CWM to get you to green CWM.
Red CWM is the preffered color to flash from.
I flashed Infused 1.6 froyo with green CWM with no issues b/c it was from froyo to froyo I believe.
If you want red before you flash a ROM you should flash a kernel with Voodoo lagfix.
If you are on stock froyo THIS should do the trick, flash with sgs kernel flasher from the market.
If you are on stock Rodgers GB you need to find the GB kernels.

[Q] first time to flash a rom, quick question

I'm going to give CM7 a whirl...
1. it says to start from a red CWM, mine is green (stock froyo with modded 3e recovery). Is that a problem?
2. Does the rom contain a compatible kernel and modem?
Thanks in advance.
Alright so it sounds like you've already installed the modified recovery? Did you use a file manager to delete the original and add the modified one?
If so, I think your next step would be to flash the community kernel v8, it can be found in the infuse development section, or just go to the stickied superthread and find it there.
You need to flash that kernel with sgs kernel flasher found in the market. (free)
That will give you red recovery.
As for if you need red cwm to flash, I do not know, I have only used red recovery to flash roms and I've never had a problem.
yes, I used root exlorer. sounds like I'm on the right track then, thanks!

[Q] What's the difference between Recovery Colors (Blue, green, Red)

which benefits include each one.. some roms requires to flash through a specific one!!.. i was worrying about it.. cuz i think i was on green recovery.. When i was on froyo stock it was blue recovery.. then i have to flash a Zeus TR to do it i had to modify it and it turned into green.. now i was checking and what's my surprise its red.. say v2.5.1.3 voodoo lagfix.. my doubt is because i'm gonna use Heimdall to get stock with GB BL in the post say in order to flash another rom we have to ger RED CWM.. and superweapons guide to Install jt CM9 says we have to ensure we are on the blue v5.5.0.4 recovery.. too much reading.. confuse me sorry for my bad english!!
Red recovery: CWM 2.5.x with Voodoo Lagfix support. Does not back up kernel when doing Nandroid backups/restores
Green recovery: CWM 2.5.x without Voodoo Lagfix support - Flashing anything with this when you have lagfix active will softbrick you
Blue recovery: CWM 5.0.x or 5.5.x - found in CM7/9 firmwares currently, I'm going to be replacing the old 2.5.x recovery in my kernel with 5.x soon
Edit: Oh yeah, forgot that stock 3e recovery is also blue... It's the one that doesn't say "CWM-based recovery" anywhere. Really what you want to look for is to ensure you're using:
Voodoo-enabled CWM 2.5.x (right now you'll see this in custom kernels for Touchwiz firmware)
or
CWM 5.0.x or 5.5.x (5.0.x is CM7, 5.5.x is CM9)
To go from CWM 2.5.x to a CM7/CM9 firmware, you need to do the double-flash mentioned before. CWM 2.5.x is missing some things CM7/9 need to fully flash.

The red recovery was built for Samsung infuse i believe. The green one is a port i think. The blue one on froyo is stock recovery, the other blue one for CM9 is custom made to properly install CM9. theirs also another blue one that installs miui
So for the most part you want red
If your gonna flash cyanogenmod or miui your gonna need one of them custom recoveries...
You can still flash cm9 with red recovery but you will need to double flash
Flash
Reboot
Will get stuck on Samsung logo most likely
Reboot to recovery
ReFlash
Reboot
You now have cm9
that method also works for cm7 and miui
Edit: look at entropys answer...he know alt more than i do

Life will be better if we can have CWM Recovery with touch support.

[Q] Unable to get pass "Checking BML/MTD"

I have searched xda and the WWW., and have not found anything similar to the issue that I am encountering.
1. I flashed stock rom UCLB3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081) and flashed Entropy512 Kernel
2. Flashed CM9 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=160184)
3. Flashed just fine
Here is the issue:
I wanted to put MIUI 2.3.2b Stable ROM and during the flash progress in CWM Blue/Red (CWM ver, doesn't matter), I get stuck at "checking BML/MTD" and all of the sudden the Samsung Logo flashes followed Cyanogenmod 9 flash intro, but then the phone just shuts down.
This only occurs when I try to flash MIUI ROMS, when before I was able to flash MIUI, prior to Cyanogenmod 9 flash.
The phone can be reverted back to stock UCLB3 and flashed with any ROM non MIUI based, but just not MIUI.
Has any one encountered this before or can lead me to possibly checking error logs to see what could be causing the issue?
Thank you in advance
If you really dis search www you should know the recovery you have does matter....
What I would do is Odin back to stock flash cm7 then flash miui ...
Flashing. Miui from red recovery wont work because
It red recovery uses voodoo partitions not compatible with cm7/miui
when you do flash from red cwm you should reboot back into recovery and reflash since.it converts your data partitions
(You should have blue 5.x.x recovery once you reboot into recovery again)
Or re download the rom and see if that's the issue

Thank you for your response.
I reverted back to stock Froyo. I apologize but I neglected to say that I tried loading the MIUI ROM via the Blue recovery and still no go.
I have flashed CM but not CM7 instead CM9 and then tried flashing MIUI no go.
Not sure if CM9 is a completely different ROM from CM7 but I will give that a try.
Note that the 2.3.2 Stable MIUI rom is a ported ROM from I9000 models and currently I am able to flash non ported ROMS such as MIUI SHOCK & AWE.
I think where the issue may be residing is the fact that I am also getting an MBR Checksum Failure message when booting to Recovery.
Not sure if this whole thing is hopeless as no one seems to know how to get rid of the Checksum errors, but I am still able to flash ROM's on my phone just not ported MIUI Roms with file designation of i9000; ie miuiscotland_I9000-2.3.2b-Stable.zip.
Regardless. Thank you for your time reading and replying. I very much appreciate the input.

Thank you for being reasonable and for having a good reply
I like the way you replied it was very "grown up " to say unlike the little kids who just rant about BS. I appreciate it.
All I can say is try flashing other MiUi bulids
There is one who is very very stable but forbidden to post here on xda :cough: galnet :cough: I heard it was really good I tried it
Back when I had my infuse and its really stable ....apart from the regular MiUi bugs
But Google it since we can't really post links here on xda regarding galnet miui

CWM question

Hello I want to try cm9 to see what its about.I'm using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...anogenMod_9#Installing_from_a_stock.2FBML_rom. It asks to Reboot to RED CWM and I don't know how. Right now when I go to cwm its orange v5.0.2.7. Another thing is Installing from a stock/BML rom? does this mean I rest to factory in cmw I'm using Valahla black FB.It doesnt say anything about installing the 2.6.35.7-cyanogenmod-ICS kernel with Hefe Kernel do I need to flash that?. If I'm right I have to install cm7 first. I'm not looking for links I can hunt them all down, just some answers
Thanks!
Just install it from cwm. Those instructions need to be updated. The CWM color means nothing its the version you are on. As long as you are on 5.x.x.x its all good.
Follow the instructions in the cm9 thread in the development sections.
Good to know it looks like I was just over complicating things
