This exact same thing happened to me cuz my friend shot me with a bb gun (phone in pocket) and the bb cracked the inner lcd.
I'm with rogers and they told me with every new upgrade you get insurance with it up to $150. Sending it in for a new screen costs about $250. So with them covering $150, it only cost me $100 to repair.. (with $50 help from the shooter).. making it worth it. Find out if your carrier offers something like this.
Also, some advise.. I now put my phone in my pocket with the screen facing inwards, and I also bought a case for it. Seidio Active, it's very nice.

[Q] Broke my screen - replacement or dump it?

So just two days ago I asked about a case for my wife's new G2x. I took your guys advice and ordered the $25 case (forgot the name of that brand though).
BUT, today she dropped the phone (it's unbelievable!) and the screen is smashed. I mean cracked like a cracked glass. You can't even see anything when you turn it on.
What do I do now? Throw this phone to the garabage? Buy a new LCD? If buy a new LCD, how to look for one? OEM? Non-OEM? eBay? LG's site?
Any advice on this would be very helpful.
Thanks!
There are phone repair shops that can fix it for you I think. I tried to replace an ipod battery once, which required removing the screen, and I cracked it trying to open it. I'll never mess with a screen myself again. Ipod glass and digitizer repair was like $60, no clue on G2X.
Edit - I might just be clumsy, and if you're good with your hands, you very well might be able to do it yourself for cheaper.
buy from ebay and have someone replace it. should cost about $50 - $70
its probably a lot cheaper to just replace the screen, but you would have to order the parts and fix it/ have somebody else fix it.
In my opinion if you dont mind spending a little cash i would just dump it for a sgsII or a GNex

[Q] Broken Screen, but not broken glass

Just last night, my SR fell out of my pocket and onto concrete. The bezel got some road rash, but the glass is fine. The downside is that the AMOLED screen didn't take the fall so well. And here are my options:
1) If I buy this, is it possible to separate the glass from the screen to transplant into my phone?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/White-ATT-Samsung-Galaxy-s2-Skyrocket-Replacement-LCD-Screen-/280890366865?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41665edb91
2) Buy a new screen w/ glass and digitizer - $170
3) Add a line and buy HTC One X - $199
I personally like option 1 and 3. I love my GS2, best phone I've had so far, but I'm really ticked it broke after such a short fall! I'm currently using my N1, which is on it's last legs, so I need something kind of quick. I don't like the GS3, hence why I'd purchase the One X.
If anyone has input on option #1, please let me know. I can pull the phone apart, but I'm just not sure how the screen attaches to the digitizer.
Thanks!
Option 1 will not work as they are glued together. Option 2 or 3 are the only viable solutions. Although, you will not be happy with the OneX screen. They have a lot of variations in the production quality.
Broken phones go for tons of cash on eBay.
Just sell yours as-is with 100% honest description.
Then fork in another $200-$300 for a used/mint Skyrocket.
Better than adding a second line, IMO. Unless you know someone in your family who needs a line but doesn't need a superphone to go along with it. Otherwise you're just compounding your costs over two years and turning it into a bad deal, IMO.
I sold a Dell Streak 5 phone for $125 recently. And it wouldn't even power on. And wasn't as popular as the Skyrocket.

I had a bad feeling option 1 wouldn't work
I'm leaning towards option 3. I would miss being apart of this community, as you all have been awesome, but I just have a hard time dumping $200 into a GS2. I have a love/hate relationship with my SR's screen (blobs and lines... I finally settled on my 3rd replacement), so I can't imagine the HOX being any worse.

I already have a second line, so this would be my 3rd. lol But I don't see it as a bad option. I know at a guy at the COR store by me, so I know he can dump the data fee on the line, which means my bill will be roughly $10/mo more. In essence, if I go option 3 and buy the HOX with an additional line, it will cost me roughly $440 over 2 years vs buying a HOX out right at $550.

See if you can get a refurbished SR. I got this one for $19.95 from ATT and its perfect.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
I bought a replacement screen for my SR months ago, and was worth it to me. Paid $169.00 for it and was fairly easy to do the swap. Just my experience. Hope you get back up and running soon, either way!
I thought i might add that the screen replacement comes with the bonded screen and glass digitizer already mounted in the front assembly. There are NO "void warranty" type seals inside this model. Big plus.

I recently dropped my phone for the first time. Glass cracked but amoled is just fine. I so want to just replace the glass but apparently it is extremely difficult to separate from the led. If you do do route #1 and separate them, I will buy the glass/digitizer from you for $40! I don't want to pay 160 just for the broken glass that costs 2 dollars to make!
Option 1 should not be totally ruled out. I have seen the glass only changed on an S3, which also has the glass glued to the screen, and it can be done, it's just really difficult.

I am going to try this process this weekent. I don't know if you even still need it, but I got the glass for mine from Amazon for 8.99. If I have success I will post a video link to the youtube vid I plan on making during the process. Also I will post a link to what I bought just in case anyone else has the same problem.
Update:
I failed in my excursion to replace the glass only, however, I know why this happened. The main thing to keep in mind id that the entire glass is glued to the digitizer, so the key to successful replacement is consistante heat, it would also help it you had a second pair of hands, or something to hold the device in place while you are heating and prying the glass.
I had a S II Skyrocket fall flat on the screen and the glass cracked. I searched the internet for options to replace the glass, but none were really encouraging, specially if you are like me not really into opening up the phone and un gluing the glass from the LCD. And any spare part to replace the LCD and glass was costing no less than $150. In short what i wanted to let everyone know is, i went to a AT&T Device Support/Service center not the regular retail store, just to check if they had any spare parts which could be less than $150. And lucky me!!! they replaced the entire phone for me for $100 + taxes. And just to let everyone know, this phone was a $10 refurbished phone brought from AT&T about 8-9 months back, so no warranty or anything. A plain $100 charge and i was with a new phone. I gave in my old phone with a cracked screen and got a completely new phone and the back plate and sd card from my old phone. So anyone who is ready to spend upto a 100 dollars for fixing up the screen, you might as well try this at a AT&T service center.

broken glass

borken glass
so ye i was clutz and dropped my phone and is cracked through out. looks like the screen is fine behind the glass. so my question is where should i go to replace the glass particularly in the gta area? i heard samsung doesnt do a great job. any hellp is appreciated thank you
I did mine myself and have had no problems since. There's a youtube on dismantling the phone that can walk you through it if you're not comfortable doing this kind of thing. The only real problem is the money... the cheapest I was able to find a replacement for was $170 on ebay. But, the seller was reputable, and the replacement was new. The issue is the fact that the glass, digitizer and LCD are made as one piece. I have an extra bezel/backpanel from attempting to extract the broken glass from the LCD. Only the bezel/backpanel survived. Its still better than paying sombody $250 to do it for you. Unless you have insurance that is...

LG Screen Repair

So on day 4 of using my Nexus 5 I cracked the screen pretty badly. It was sitting on the edge of my dining room table and I hit it up into the air. It did one rotation and landed on a plate. I'd say the total fall couldn't have been more then 5 or 6 inches... The screen was totally smashed. :crying:
Anyway I've just sent it into LG for repair. The return process was pretty smooth but the CS Rep would not give me a quote or any idea what the replacement cost would be. I should hear from them in a few business days with a price. Anyone in the same boat?

Did you have a case/ a screen protector on? I'm sorry to hear that.
According to iFixit "The glass and LCD are fused to the display frame. Fixing broken glass will be either expensive or very difficult."
Might as well just invest in another one or another phone.

No case. Although I never had one on my Nexus 4 or Galaxy Nexus and they got through some drops ok. I think the difference here is the edge to edge glass. Even a small hit on the edge will crack the screen. Trust me there will be a case on it if I ever get it back.
I am guessing that it will be at least $150 based on iFixit and some quotes I've seen from the Nexus 4 thread. I'll update everyone when I get a price.
Pay with a credit card? Unless you have a poverty card, there is a good chance your card will have 90 day purchase protection and will cover the cost of the replacement.
Well I just got a notification that fedex delivered my phone to LG Repair facility. Now just waiting for a phone call.
Has anyone else received a quote on a screen replacement yet?

Hello, I m realy wondering how LG can repair your screen without giving you any kind of pre invoice???
I can anderstand that like dead HDs, they can't say how it would cost before examine it but then they must call you back to ask you if you accept the price!
Unless they have done it for free....

Yes my understanding is that they will call me first with a price before repairing it. If I accept they will fix it. If not they will send it back.
I really don't have any choice tho really. If its anything less then the 350 I paid for it Ill probably get it fixed. Other then the cracked screen its a brand new phone.
Well I got the quote from LG. It's $146 dollars to repair the screen. Not too bad I guess.

Anyone have their s8 or s8+ screen repaired? Cheapest?

If anyone knows a good glass repair guy let me know.
Obviously it'll be more expensive to repair the lcd/oled display altogether. But the glass itself, while more difficult to do, would be cheaper on theory.
Let me know who you repaired yours through. Thanks
Had mine repaired. Most places won't when think about doing anything but the full glass and display replacement. I shopped around, most places wanted about $450 for the repair. I found a place that did it for $270. UBREAKIFIX, if they in your area I can't recommend them enough.
Best option is Samsung direct! I looked around and all were 250+ , and I would loose waterproofing and warrenty. Samsung charges 216.49 ( No insurance)

THANK YOU FOR RECOMMENDING ME THIS!!!!
My screen fell FLAT on it's face on some marble floor and the glass surprisingly didn't break.. howeveron the LCD has some damaged pixels.
Online they wanted almost $300 dollars for the LCD+Glass assembly PLUS I had to buy my own special tools and glue and this place only wants $259.99?????????????????????
And that's with installation!! WOW
I'm so going to book my appointment soon!
My s6 edge plus glass broke last year and I go into Samsung store. You can either pay for full fixing cost or buy an Samsung care or whatever it's called. They don't check your phone. Just a thought.
Personally Samsung store would be best idea, especially of cheaper and they will maintain the warranty after fixing.
HI, I have question to tag on, if my motherboard on a S8 PLUS is dead, can I replace it with a regular S8 motherboard ? or does it have to be S8 Plus motherboard ? The reason I ask is because I see a good deal on eBay. Thanks.
