You need to make a kernel in which more power is passed through the cable. But, the problem on doing so is that the phone freezes BADLY. Very Badly.
And, When I tried doing it, I had to replace my motherboard.
So, Technically Impossible.

Standalone Drivers!

To be completely honest, when I was new to this phone, I had a heck of a hard time finding the USB driver. I know you are supposed to install Kies, but that's a pretty big download. This 19.6 MB installer is found in the Kies files, I just decided to upload this for the sake of people who don't have the drivers yet.
Please inform me if this has already been posted/does not work.
I have NOT tested this, it should work though.

[scratches head] kies doesn't support the infuse (other than the drivers of coarse), installing kies is silly. The drivers are on the Samsung website under product support exactly where you'd expect them to be.
Kies supports my infuse...
Yea true don't get support with kies but until I installed it I never could get my phone to find what it needed to on the computer. It really is important if u end up having issues connecting and finding your phone

That's because kies installs drivers, but again the logical place to look for drivers is the Samsung product support section and they are there. Its amazing the simple things this while forum seems to ignore.

Which kies functions are supported with the infuse? Can you update firmware? Can you install Samsung apps? Edit contacts? Sync media? I never tried it but as fast as I know only galaxy s phones a supported and the infuse on att is not labeled as a galaxy s. I've heard it doesn't work but I have Linux on my computer and never use windows unless I have to. I have no reason to use kies or USB drivers.
so kies works on infuse now? that would be really helpful if they had an app, because my usb driver is broken and i cant update my phone.
any help?
yes, kies supports the infuse now. and is the only proper way to upgrade to official gingerbread from att.
thats a little stupid idea to say the least...
what about people that dont have a computer, or like me their USB connection on their infuse is not working(im not the only one)?
i cant find any drivers for my infuse or ways to download the update that im pretty sure would fix my phone...they've really left me deserted and want me to pay a fee to have my phones OS reinstalled
on the infuse, gingerbread required a new bootloader which required a computer. you should have drivers loaded with kies, if not you can get them from samsung. you may have to go select the proper driver in device manager. i know it conflicts if you install adb.

What are you talking about? the tutorial I wrote is exclusively for SGR. In S2 is all about plugging USB jig (or sometimes re-flashing bootloader). USB jig works different way on SGR which is explained in guide.

USB JIG is same for the SGS II and SGR, resetting method is different for SGR.
Well I don't know what kind of jig is that...but usb jig works with the most of samsung android devices (even if sgr is not mentioned there). I've been using the same jig with my SGS2 and SGR. The way it works differs depended on device but it works in both cases.

usb jig is nothing special but it is a resistor of 301 kohm, all usb jigs are same they dnt have any difference.
I have done the reset with a USB jig of s 2 without any issue. It's simple.
Switch off your mobile.plug the jig to your mobile. And restart. It will go to download mode automatically. Then unplug the jig and straight away connect the phone to your PC and flash the stock ROM. Done.

The problem is that since latest v2.3.6, the bootloader has locked access to the mmcblk0bootX partition. So that you can no longer reset the counter as you want. However I have another choice for him ....... just follow the guide here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528256 and makes sure you have done backing up /efs, otherwise you repaired phone is bricked
btw please try to flash 2.3.4 stock rom before if you really want to use the jig mode just to reset counter.
It depends what kind of Odin protocol (DM version) he has. If it's v. 2.0 then USB jig works like a charm (He can even flash XWLA4 - latest 2.3.6 I guess). I had flashed XWLA4, but my DM protocol hasn't changed -It remained as it originally was (2.0). Thus I hadn't any single issues with using USB jig whatsoever.
But I know there are users with Odin Protocol v. 2.1 and there USB jig is useless. And they must use the method you mentioned. Although there must be some easier way to bypass it. In SGS2 all you have to do is just flash the old bootloader and voila. In case of SGR u must go through all these scary steps.

Yep my device is having odin protocol v2.1 as well and I cannot reset the counter as well (well I am prepared to use nvflash instead if anything occurs, and actually I should ask for the donation for getting a new phone just for development as well. Tbh, it is too dangerous to use a daily usage phone just for developement). It was brought in last month only. So you should make a note on the guide saying that if the odin protocol is v2.1, the USB jig reset method doesn't work @ all.
I can confirm that USB jig download mode does not work with odin protocol v2.1.
oh btw my binary counter has gone to 50 times now

[Q] status of my phone

i had tried to install a custom rom and my phone is not starting in either way
it is neither starting in download mode ; the normal on nor in the recovery mode
i have already done this rooting and i am not new to installing custom rom in my device i.e. SAMSUNG GALAXY ACE.
i have also tried to boot it by using usb jig but it failed.
so guys do u have any idea how i can get my phone back or is it bricked for ever.
please share ur views.
Can you link the ROM you flashed?
If you take out the battery then put it back in, then turn it on (or attempt to), does it do anything at all? Vibrate, flash something, anything?
If you plug it in to your computer, does it recognize anything as plugged in, even just a driver?

It does sound like its hard bricked.
If usb jig didn't work for you, then only Samsung can fix it for you.
As for warranty, depending on what reason you give them for the "sudden death" of your phone, you might be able to claim it.

They might honor the warranty without having to "have" anything, just ask them. I have no idea how much they'll charge.
Motherboard replacement - anywhere around 2500INR
Approx 50USD.
There's one last thing to try.
JTAG. If you don't know how to do it, ask these guys if they can help you with your phone. http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/
They're very good and trustworthy, and their service is great.
It may not start in Download mode, but I'm quite sure a JTAG is still in point. If it doesn't boot into Download mode, it means bl.bin got messed up, which is something unusual since only Samsung code/flashable through ODIN can change that file.

You will have to send it to them and it will cost money. It's not something you can get a guide to do - they need to hook up hardware to the phone and that hardware is more expensive than paying them to do it, and not a "do it yourself" kind of thing.
You could search for JTAG repair in your country. Shipping might not be too bad in a small pre-paid USPS PMI box if you have access to that - I sent a small box to Russia for $13 USD

Sincerely, the 4.2 update was a bad choice. Samsung should make a better update. I'm not spitting on it, but no Smart Dock mode?
I'm hopefull that Samsung will launch a bugfix for that.
More than half year passed since that problem appeared with the 4.2.2 update.... Is there any solution to use the multimedia dock on 4.2.2 or only the downgrade can help?
You need a kernel with dock support enabled.
There are some configurations to change while compile new kernel:
CONFIG_MUIC_MAX77693_SUPPORT_OTG_AUDIO_DOCK=y
CONFIG_MUIC_MAX77693_SUPPORT_SMART_DOCK=y
CONFIG_MUIC_MAX77693_SUPPORT_CAR_DOCK=y
I compiled my own kernel and use a cable made to support simultaneos charge and otg.
If you want, send a message and I will sent my kernel.
I wonder how the adapter I've got off eBay^ works then. As long as I do plug in power + USB before the HDMI, I get screen off, charging, and USB host and MHL output. Although the only way I can trickle charger rather than slowly drain is by using the 3A charger from my Chromebook instead of a regular 2A charger.

[Q] Seek Thermal camera on Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

That was a requirement for installing the Seek Thermal Camera that I am having trouble with (please Google it I am not allowed to post links yet)
The other requirement that someone from support indicated to me was OTH USB which Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 seems to have
I used a micro USB cable to connect the camera to the table.
So right know I have the software installed and the camera connected but ..the software can not see it
My tablet is rooted. Is there any way I can debug this and see if actually the kernel sees this new thermal camera ?

The camera does not require the tablet to be rooted. debugging that might require that but I don't see your point.

Like I said I don't need your help
You should read a little bit about Seek Thermal, what it does and what it needs and then you can think about helping me
Don't offer something that you don't have
Bye!

Then try to be less patronizing when you offer your help and make sure you understand the context
So you are using this with a micro USB adapter?
Looking at the specs it doesn't mention "android tablet compatibility " except for eYepaDs .
Maybe that's why IT doesn't work?

Yes I am trying to use it this way
Here is what the developer told me

The basic requirements that can prevent download are 4.3 or newer Android and a rear-facing native camera. The USB OTG functionality, as well as the USB port providing power to OTG attached devices, will not block download, but the camera won't connect. Ideally we would block downloads by USB OTG functionality, but tha tis not an option in Android right now.

So you need to revert to a stone age rom in order to use a gadget that is not really supported by an android tablet, and the developer will tell you a bunch of double talk so you don't return the gadget costing him a profit.
"And a rear facing native camera " will prevent download?
What does he mean by "prevent download "?
Does that mean that app won't function?
You need to download samsung stock firmware, and flash with Odin (may need to do factory reset also ) if it doesn't work after first odin flash.
I would test before rooting.

Nope he was dumb ..actually he wanted to say that if you have something older than 4.3 you can't install the app
The rear facing camera was unclear to me.
I am going to but a cable and test this in an emulator
I suspect that my cable can be the right one but it does not take the OTG power from the tablet to the other end of the cable...
I did not make sure that the cable was OTG, I thought that only the port is that way. Not sure how I can verify this
Don't think cable has to be OTG specific, if the voltage is present to power a device the cable will work. You may need to find out what pin on connector is supposed to be hot for OTG and test.
