I have a tf101, with AOKP build 28(1.6) and flashed gapps-ics-031712, and I also downloaded the 4.5.11 music apk, and it worked at first. Then i didnt use my tab for music for quite some time, and when i went to use it again, it said "Couldnt play requested track." I thought perhaps this was only my music that I had stored in the cloud, but it will not play anything I have on my SD card either. I have tried downloading and installing the 4.5.13 apk, both through downloading the apk straight to the tab, as well as using marketenabler to get it straight from market. I've rebooted and wiped cache, and dalvik cache. I am curious; Does anyone know if there is something I have not tried, or if there is some other method to get Google Music onto our beloved transformer?
I had that happened last month.
Look for an app call Dev Tools (might be in the market but i know it's part of CM9 ROM). Run the "media scanner" option. That fixed it for me. If you can't find the app let me know I'll post it for you.
I can't seem to find it in market, or an apk online, so if you've got it that'd be a great help
edit: found what you were talking about, shows up as "developer" tools in market, thanks!

Hi there, was just curious if anyone has figured out how to get Google Music on the KF, and if it would require rooting.
I have already uploaded ~50GB of music to google and really don't want to have to do the same to Amazon Cloud Drive, especially with the $20 fee.
Thanks!
Once i got working market, which yes requires root, I was able to pull down google music from the market and it works flawlessly.
I was able to get mine working after rooting, i installed market and google music, and the widget. works fine.
I got mine without rooting and just installing the APK's individually. You need a bunch of APK's to get it going right, including the Google framework, Books, and Gmail apps.
See the "side loading apps" thread for more.
I used the sideload thread to get google apps working (didn't do market as its more of a hassle). After that, installing google music is easy. I install on my phone, backup the apk and use dropbox to move to my device.
You can sideload it along with the google framework, and it works perfectly.
If you want to be able to buy music though, you need to load the market, you need to root and follow the insructions in the development forum, it takes like2 minutes...i then unrooted once i got it loaded and everything works awesome.

Intermittently when installing apps from the market I get the above error. I've tried clearing the cache and re-installing the app. Neither has any effect. Anyone get the market to work predictably on the kindle fire? I'm using the app from the guide that calls for vending.apk
Uninstall vending.apk and use the one that ends in amarket.apk instead.
That causes the market to crash every time I try and launch it.

Strange, it works fine for me. I've never used the vending.apk always used the com.amarket.apk
Did you try clearing the storage or deleting vending one first? If that doesn't help, then I have no clue. I have no issues with the market with that APK.
Did you push it to the /system/app folder before installing?
I have it working perfectly, thus far. Cn you list apps that are failing so I can try it?
//Tapatalk.EVO3D//
Ok, I uninstalled the market app and cleared the card. I re-downloaded and re-sideloaded everything. I have the market. I can click install but the apps I want to install are stalling at "starting download". I'm on wifi, I can access the web fine.
Apps that won't install.
Google Music
Retro Clock
OTA rootkeeper
I just installed Google Music without error. Did you install the market from the system/app folder?

I have the same problem. I installed the vending.apk in systems/app ensured all the permissions are correct (when they weren't market would insta-crash) so I re-installed, corrected permissions and it loaded but now whenever I try and download it hangs on, "Waiting for download to start"
Also if I search for say, "Official Twitter App" it will bring up the first 15/20 or so options covering 2/3's of the screen of 15,000 or whatever but there's no option to see more.
Is that normal? I've never used Android before.
Apps I've tried to download,
Busybox
Twitter
OpenVPN Installer
OpenVPN Settings
(BTW until there's a tun.ko don't bother with VPN...)
I had this problems too, i tried 10 diffrent versions of the market.
The solution was to clear cache and data from the "Download Manager" app. I also cleared cache and data from all google apps, but i think the download manager was the main problem.
Thanks for the tip to clear the download app data but didn't work for me...
I'll have a go with the other suggested apk tomorrow.
Problem Solved! / Solution? Not really.
I've got it working.
I have two different vending.apk files. I didn't hash them to see if they're exactly the same but they have the same size to the byte. One installed the phone market version and the other installed the tablet market version. The tablet version not only looks slicker but it crashed exactly once and after I restarted the device it's worked flawlessly as far as I can tell. Installed many nice apps.
My initial thought is that I missed a step in the process early on, serves me right being a script kiddie type and just following the steps instead of understanding why each step is taken. I think I've learned a lot about how security works in android from this experience.
Also, google reader on the kindle fire rocks. Get the articles to fill the screen and you can page through them like the best magazine ever written.
I got Market working by integrating it into the ROM through Titanium Backup. It seemed to be the only way I got it to work.
I've read just about everything I can find on this subject and have yet to find a solution. I am not sure if this is phone specific and since this is my first post, I figured I'd try the general QA forum. So here goes:
This all started when I was looking to unlock my SIM for an upcoming trip to Costa Rica. I have a stock ROM Firmware version 2.2.1. in a Samsung Infuse 4G. I had some other things in mind for later like flashing to a custom ROM, but I wanted to get some of the junk off the phone and get the SIM unlocked first. So feeling a little frisky with the uninstaller of TB, I started getting rid of some of what I thought may have been bloatware....family maps, google books, bar code reader, etc. I don't remember now if play store was one of those apps. I really don't believe I did uninstall it. If it was questionable in any way, I left it installed. But who would care right? I had the whole phone backed up.
Ok, so I see that I needed to be rooted for this. So I followed some QBking77 tutorials on YT. Got the superoneclick application and got it rooted with no problem. Then, I followed the suggestion to get Titanium Backup. I bought the paid version and did an entire backup. In the meantime, superuser updated itself and everything seemed fine. I shut the phone down and came back some hours later to attempt an unlock. After boot, I started TBackup and it was hanging on a message saying searching for license. I restarted the app and it kept hanging. It finally gave me a message to reinstall the Pro version key. Well, I uninstalled it...not knowing any better....and then could not download it from the store. The store still had these apps showing installed and purchased. This is when I began seeing the force close of Play Store app.
Ok...I'm trying to provide detail here and this is why it is so long winded. But I began looking for solutions to this issue all over the place. I saw the solutions to clear the cache and data and force close the app...reboot the phone. That didn't work. I found apk google store files and began trying to install those to the SD card. That wouldn't work. So now I got the big idea to reset to factory. I did that twice and that didn't work. Tried repeating all the suggested solutions after factory reset. That didn't work. I ended up losing my backup from before. So what's left?
I figured I would try to flash the ROM now and get a fresh start with a new OS. Well, it turns out that many of the apps I need like root explorer, need the paid version to modify the recovery files. So I found an app called file expert that is free, but I need to have a paid version to modify root files. I also saw a solution to google play which involved putting the apk file in system/apps. But it won't let me do that either without a paid version.
So I'm stuck and very frustrated. I'm caught in this never ending loop where the files I need require google play to purchase and I can't do anything to get it working.
I don't know if I'm posting in the right forum. I'm all tense about asking questions. But I'm really at the end of my rope here. I probably screwed something up without knowing it. But I see that there are alot of complaints with this force close. But many of those complaints seem to be getting resolved. The last thing I tried was to download vending 3.5.16.apk I've been putting these files on my internal SD card and trying to install from there. This is very frustrating. And it even gets more frustrating when you see the solutions can be to download something from the market. If I could do that, I wouldn't be typing this.
I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. And if you want me to take it somewhere else, I will. But I'm at a point right now where I don't care who yells at me. I'm desperate.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: And just to clarify, everything else seems to be working. I tried all the google apps (maps, gmail, etc.) My phone works, wifi, camera, etc. I get notifications of updates....and when I accept (or when it's an auto update), google play store starts and force closes. But other than that, the phone seems to have all it's functionality intact. And now, if I go to the store via my pc, it shows all my prvious app history including installs and purchases, but says I have no device.

but i can't flash any rom because i don't have clockwork mod for my phone
check this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26581744
Try fixing permissions (recovery mode)
i also faced this problem but i fixed it easily!!
go to setting
then select application
after that choose manage application
select the tab "all"
there select the play store
first clear the data as well as cache then give it a try
if still doesnt work
go to setting
then select application
after that choose manage application
select the tab "all"
there select the play store
select uninstall update
and finally ur android market would work!!!!
Get ES file explorer.apk It works like rom manager but completely free. Start there, one of the solutions will work. Also,if you still have titanium backup folder still in your SD card, put the FREE version of the app and see if it'll find your backup. Good luck.

Keeping within the guidlines of the forum....I want to say "Thanks" to everyone for the responses.
In a haste, I found the vid on youtube that showed the Odin method of reverting back to stock/unbrick. This is what worked for me. I did something stupid with Titanium Backup (I think) and that's what got me into trouble.
All is (still) well, I'm re-rooted with unlock code and got all the apps needed for a flash. I'm reading up on ROM flashing to hopefully get a handle on it. Thinking of trying Zues. Just a little unsure of this backup business....like where to put the backups....my pc?
But with all sincerity....again, thanks for the responses.
I do a double backup,nandroid and titanium. But,you're welcome.

I have got a solution!
OK, Perhaps you don't want to see a person who has had a solution, Huh. Doesn't matter....
Here's what happened to me: I has updating my Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S to android 4.0.4 and after doing so found my Google Play Store force closing every time I tried to turn it on. Fortunately, (or perhaps not so fortunately) I had encountered the exact problem before and spent one painful month mulling other the dull fact that it didn't work. When I plucked up the courage to try and fix I found that uninstalling the updates which can be found in Settings > Applications or apps > Manage applications > (locating Google Play Store located under All) Google Play Store > Uninstall updates.
So when I tried to do the same this time, IT DIDN'T WORK. What I gradually found out what I had done was uninstalled Google Play Store because as I had recently updated my whole device, it had worked it's magic on the Play Store. After what seemed like hours getting worked up into a frenzy and searching the web, I found a download link that downloaded the play store back on to my device:
I'm not allowed to write links so on your mobile device search for 4shared and then write Google Play Store.apk into the toolbar making sure the subsection selection is under files (you'll understand once your on the site). You want to pick the one which has the developers name: xurupita_zorro
(Its more convenient to download Google Play Store from your phones inbuilt browser as you wont have to muck around with files... Also, the link requires you to sign up, but I would suggest that you do because it lets you download games and apps for free... but that's irrelevant.
Anyhow, you could always try and download it elsewhere.
Then I opened it up and realised that it too was force closing, and of course you cant install updates on a Google Play Store which never updated. TROLOLOLOLO, not funny.
I Shut Down my phone for a very restless night and when I woke up this morning, I found that it was working fine and I could search the store beautifully!
So, My top tips:
Chillout as things fix themselves normally
Chillout as things fix themselves
Shutdown for the night
try uninstalling updates but be careful if you recently updated device
also the play store can be viewed online
Hope for the best,
Will :highfive:
Don't know what is going on but I can't download app files. Recently updated system on Moto E4 v 7.1.1 and dl's were working.
Tried to download F-Droid and it would not respond. Searched every possibility with no luck. Enabled the proper tab in settings etc. Went to XDA site to try and download an adblocker and it shut down the XDA app after the tab was ena led for settings. This happens on anything I try to do on this app. Immediate closeing of XDA. With any other apk file the thing just does not download. Nothing in the app tray. Just blank. I've tried everything but I'm not an advanced user. This happened once before and I had to reset to factory settings. Would not want to do this again but as they say... whatever

Did you subscribe to a conservative YT channel/website or even watch a video at some point?
Sorry for the delay responding. I don't know what I did but the download problem has been corrected. apk files have successfully installed. I wish I knew specifically what the answer is as I mentioned this happened once before. Thank you all. I'm pleased to be part of this community.
I know this is probably not the best question, but I have no idea where my music player is. I flashed a Custom ROM of AOKP Milestone 5 on my i9023 Nexus S, after rooting successfully. I installed Gapps and no hope. Play Music is not here.
I know someone will say, download it from the play store you idiot, well the Google Play Music app that's on the Play Store isn't available in my area (Australia).
I have no idea if the app on the play store is the same as the one that comes pre-installed with Stock ROMs or not.
Can someone point out what's wrong and explain the difference between the two apps (Stock ROM pre-installed and Play Store versions).
Cheers
Also another question...
I know that a NANDroid backup backups everything on your device, INCLUDING the ROM. Is there a good software that backups up only the information and media on the device (ie. Contacts, Events, Alarms, Pictures, Videos, Apps, Settings) without backing up any system components such as the ROM?

Follow this link, it's the same as the stock one. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.music&hl=en
About the second question, contacts are synced with google, events are synced with google calendar, alarms are easy too set anyways, pictures and videos dont get wiped anyway, apps are backed up using titanium backup, really good app, and finally system settings differ in different roms, so i suggest you dont restore settings between different roms. hope this helps!
Oh my pictures and vids got wiped because I used Fastboot mmhm, ok.
You cleared up a lot for me, however that App is not available in Australia. I said that in the first post
"This app is incompatible with all of your devices."
From Description:
"* Available in the U.S. only."
You're from Australia you should know
http://awesomescreenshot.com/0859w9qc9
open the market link with ur phone and try, or get 'market unlocker'
the /sdcard partition only gets wiped when you unlock the bootloader, so next time you flash a rom, you dont have to wipe /sdcard, but you still have to wipe /cache and factory reset via recovery.

and also, the music app only plays local music, no online purchasing nor syncing, but since you store music on your /sdcard you dont have to worry about losing any songs
Thanks I already had market enabler, I thought I had to put a VPN because my VPN software DROIDvpn wasn't working.
Now I understand:
To install the app I just need Market Enabler, to fully sync music I need VPN
By the way, I don't care about syncing music, I wish I could thank you but I used up all my thanks.
Thank you man

I'm going to try and be as detailed as possible here so bear with me. So a few days ago I got my first android device, a refurbished Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. Everything was working fine when I first got the device (including the google play store). I did a lot of research and ended up following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880010 to root and install CWM on the device. Cool right, everything still works (including the google play store). Next I decided I wanted to try out a custom ROM so I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2202854 in order to install the PAC-ROM. Everything was working fine and I was really loving the new UI but this is when **** hits the fan. The google play store stopped showing me apps and when I could get one to show up through a search I was presented with a lovely "This item isn't available in this country". I followed some advice on XDA forums saying to clear the play store data/cache and reboot (tried this about 30 times). Nothing. Reset app preferences and clear all data/cache again. Nothing. Remove and re-add my google account. Nothing. Remove google account, reset everything, reboot, and add a new google account. NOTHING. At this point I'm getting frustrated so I decide to just do a factory reset and reinstall STOCK JB 4.1.1. NON-rooted following these steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283598. NOTHING! When I open the play store I am presented an empty menu with a bunch of categories that have nothing in them. If I search for major apps like "Facebook" I can get to the app page but it says "This item isn't available in your country". I've tried about 10 google accounts now and to no avail. What's really weird is that I can't see the google play store on my Desktop computer either (both on the same wifi), its also a blank menu and If I search for a major app it shows me a few apps and most of them are in Chinese? What. The. ****. So, any ideas?

If it does, I'm having the same exact problem on a Kindle fire 2 running stock cm10.2
E: Oh, and this also started happening using the kf2 port of pac rom, if that means anything.
Very simple. The Play Store thinks you have a Chinese device and those are the only apps available for that device. Either install a new ROM or edit the build.prop in the system folder. I use Root Explorer which has a Text Editor built in. Change all the instances of the tablet model to the correct model. Save and reboot your tab and all should be well.
Do a complete wipe before you install a ROM if that is the path you choose.
nice info
Thanks
Well I figured out the source of the problem... my ASUS router. I had accidentally set the timezone to somewhere in the middle of the pacific ocean at -12:00 GMT when I'm actually in EST. I figured it out because on my girlfriend's wireless network my playstore worked absolutely fine (and she has the same ISP as I do). So after setting my router to the correct timezone all of my problem's were alleviated. :good:
