why no custom froyo roms? - Samsung Infuse 4G

just curious.. hope this doesnt come across the wrong way. i realize everyone wants the latest and greatest, but why havent any dev's made a custom badass froyo based rom?
everything works, we have all the sources and bootloaders, etc.. and it can be made to look just like GB or ICS anyways with theming. it just seems like our devs would have a lot less difficult of a time getting things to work properly. i know there were a lot of difficulties faced when trying to get GB to work.. and still some features are missing
i do realize there are a few (3) modified stock froyo roms available. but nothing custom built straight from aosp. just an idea.. would anyone else be interested?

If a developer feels like running it, then it could happen but probably not. Now, somehow porting cm1 or whatever the first verson of it would be so cool, imagine telling people "ive got a pretty new phone running the software that started it all". Probably way more difficult then making ics for the infuse lol. Just based out of sheer curiosity.

It's not a bad idea, brad.
I've ran the uckh1 for a while. I used tibu to delete on extra un-needed like updater, music, social etc..it was pretty good and very responsive running stock and odexed.
There are a few things like battery management, memory manager, gtalk video that froyo does not support.
the infused 1.5 and cousins were pinnacles of their time...oc will also make it very snappy.
however, some app from market may not have all functions or display, so there is some drawbacks.
You can learn to theme...make it badass... and share?

Ya I'm by no means a developer. I can flash lol but coding is something I know NOTHING about. Not even a little bit

As a developer forum we are all about messing and trying new things. Once something new is released it is normally taken on by most of the developers. As this is not a site that focuses on Roms but on developing new and interesting stuff. You can see where it leads.

[ROM] gbhil mem optimized 2.1 leak

I cannot believe I've never even so much as heard of this anyhwere on XDA before until a few days ago in the "explanation of keyboard lag" thread. I forget who it was that posted it, but I came across this link
http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-hero-roms-hacks/9522-sprint-2-1-leak.html
Gbhil's roms have always been so stable and fast for me. I was under the impression he was done with rom's. Apparently he at least has been optimizing the leak though. Check out the link, all of the mod's that I used for fresh seemed to work (vanilla lock, xda keyboard, etc...) Very stable Rom, nothing out of the ordinary. Slightly faster alternative to Fresh 2.0d/Damaged IMO, although I could be biased. Only one way to find out though.
Its obvious it hasnt been posted since a lot of the xda folks dont visit Android Central. Ive been running his optimized rom since he released it on the 10th of April.

Do you have any keyboard lag with his ROM?
a little bit. Seems to be better than a lot of ROMs though. I'll throw a party the day that goes away for good.
well dude throw that party flash zenexp and b amazed no kb lag what so ever
A lot of the ROM's without Sense don't have keyboard lag...
well I meant more that when the lag goes away with the HTC keyboard/and sense. Is there really any real advantage to the HTC over the stock android keyboard? That zenulator rom looks pretty nice though. Too bad I can't download anything at work, hate it.
i didnt even know there was another forum that hacked phones, i ASSUMED this was the only one lol, well only one that i actually cared about, what happend to gbhil, i thought he was a part of xda, he moved to that forum android central?

that is the truth Zen's port is awesome........ but lemme see what this one is about
alot of dev's post on both of these sites. Gbhil quit putting out ROM's after someone took his rom, tossed some paid apps in it, rereleased it, or something to that effect anyways. I guess one of the app developers came at him with the blame. Pretty unfortunate because his ROM's were/still are awesome.
I was the one who mentioned this Rom in the keyboard lag thread. But I heard about it when vince mentioned running it. The only issue I have had is superuser whitelist. It simply won't download and install. To be honest, I've never had to download it before, so it may be a problem with the download, not the Rom. Imma pull the apk from another Rom this after and try pushing it through adb.

Please reply and tell us (me) if that works. I'm having the same issue.
Did yall know that dc 2.07.2 and alot of the roms come with the gbhil's memory killer. Its also easy to change the settings to be more aggressive and or less. Also you can download AutoKiller from the market and set the memory setting to anything you want.
Nothing against gbhil but his rom is literally the most basic sprint rom you can get, it will not have an increase in speed compared to dc 2.07.2 or fresh 2.0d.
Both of those roms have all the sprint stuff so it appears to be stock but its optimized to run smoother. They also include superusers and everything else needed.
Pushing superuser works perfectly.
what do you mean i posted up the rom???

its cool. not starting a arguement but sad that he isn't doing any more roms....
I am using this as a daily rom and it is running smooth for me.
Im personally using beezys option 4. Next week we should know if all these rumors are true about the official update and hopefully a new era of ROMs should begin.
I really miss Gumbo 1.5c though................

[Q] Port from non cdma phone

Sorry if this is a repeat thread. But how do you port a non cmda phone rom to a cdma phone?
You are better off asking in the irc. Since I am not familiar with the mes that great but the desire. I can't give all the info.
But in turn I do know you will need the kernel, libs, modules and probably a few other bits. Along with editing the build.prop.
The better question might be, which ROM are you hoping to port? If you're after CM7, that's pretty much done, and very well supported. If you're after MIUI, I think I'm about the only one working on a GB port, but it's at least still being poked at. Those would be the big universal ROMs I can think of.

Miui will be missing the same things. No AOSP based Roms currently have this functionality for us.
I'm currently in the process of beating my head against GB MIUI to get it to work. Thus far, I've had EXTREMELY limited success (I got it to boot ONCE). I've had limited help, but I could really use more from experienced ROM porters.
That said, yeah, anything CM7 is missing, MIUI will also be missing.
I've heard good things about the kernel JT1134 is working on, but I have no idea how far along he is, and how easily it will be tied into CM7 (and hopefully, MIUI).
Bottom line: The functionality you want can really only be found in a TouchWiz ROM. If you're after MIUI + Functionality, consider trying MIUIWiz.

MR2 Coming Soon

MR2 will be coming via OTA in the next couple of days MR2 has been through four different revisions and will be based on the 1.70.xx code. There are a number of fixes but the most important should be fixing the reboots and improving the 4G/3G transitions.
I know everyone is waiting for GB which is MR3, but it still needs some time. The good news is that it is being worked on it is already on its fifth SW revision.
Awesome. I can wait for GB no problem, I just want a fix for the reboots. I'm sick of my phone rebooting 5+ times a day, happy an update is coming soon.

OR... you could just scoot on over to the dev forum and pick yourself up a spiffy new rom built on MR2 which is quite solid and fast and will use the same or very similar radios to what will be in the OTA. I tried a couple of them. They are spartan on fancy stuff, but they are reliable if nothing else. Possibly the most functional and reliable roms over there.
Why does someone always have to pop intro threads like this and state the obvious. I'm sure everyone with a Thunderbolt that frequents these forums is aware that rooting and installing a custom rom is an option. Some people have their reasons for wanting to stay stock.
I for one am still stock because this is the first phone I've had in quite a while that the stock rom is quite good. I spent a long time on WinMo, so I am used to custom roms just the make the device functional. Right now custom roms on the TB are mostly just different, not necessarily a huge need to me (GB roms are debatable on this point).
Once the custom roms offer something I want that I can't get from stock (and mature a bit more), I'm sure I'll root and rom. For now I'm enjoying stock stability and a working camera. Just because someone can do something doesn't make it something they need to do.

I agree with wanting an official update, but the stock rom is far from good. Yes the speed is good but the battery life is horrible. With custom roms I have been able to triple my battery life and limit the random reboots I was getting stock, along with the already good speed being improved. Das BAMF Stripped 1.8

agreed. So far only 1 reboot in 2 weeks (apparently that is good) and I get occasional instances where home button doesn't want to work.
I just wish the damn thing rebooted faster. It takes almost 2 minutes to boot, then another couple of minutes before sense is responsive.
Coming from the hd7 and 25 second boot times, this is killer...
I also made/used custom roms on my q9c, tp2 and hd2, but want to give stock a chance. Maybe I will root if I decide I need to tether, but so far, things are looking good stock.

"mr2" we leaked on the forums is NOT mr2. 1.66/1.67/1.68/1.69 will not be MR2.
I can confirm OP's comments on the current "mr2" candidate version number, and give a approximate release of july 6th. With verizon things are given to change, the release date can change, so can the version being released.

His comment was pretty blunt/unhelpful and rude, but there does tend to be some complaining from those that want to have their cake (those that don't want to root) and eat it too (still want updates/workarounds as quick as those that have root).
Those that seem to be frustrated by such things, perhaps android is not the phone for them or at least android phones that are not officially blessed by google (nexus phones).

Thinking about getting this phone, but dev section seems dead why?

I was thinking about selling my Vibrant and buying a G2x, but the dev section seems to be pretty dead. Any reason why wasnt this CMs personal phone at one time?
I think part of it is LG's quick memory regarding it. Quick as in quick to forget it, and Nvidia won't release driver source so devs are forced to reuse the 2.3.3 release in order to get 100% functionality.

Some devs don't post updates on xda. Some of them give updatea via twitter or other sites. But it's not dead.

Does anyone know if they will ever release new drivers? So basically until they do which is most likely never this phone has been as updated as possible? I noticed CM7 is still updating which means 2.3.6 so is there much chance of ICS? Finally who are some good people to follow on twitter for good roms? Thanks a ton guys!
due to overall problems
I believe there were many more developers that planned on developing for the g2x and bought the device to do so as i did.
But with so may problems at the start i just didnt want to even attempt to rom for this device and be blamed when the phone self destructed. after much tampering it is running pretty well but i just dont trust the phone and im sure there are some others that didnt work on the G2X for the same reason. There are some very good options out there and talented people that are working on the G2x. so dont be afraid due to low quanity because there is some high quality work done.
Not sure it will grow much since its been obvious that tmobile and lg's fix for the phone is to shutup until it goes away. But the roms have the phone running pretty well and you wont be disapointed, But i would wait until oct 12th and get the hercules(even without the samsung chip) will be a killer phone or the HTC coming out the same day with similar specs.
This phone works fabulously with CyanogenMod, EXCEPT that bluetooth audio (to a wireless headset or whatever) doesn't work.
Other than that, EVEYRYTHING works. Love this phone.
Well that's disappointing to hear that I probably will never see ICS running on this device. It's a very capable device and the fact that LG refuses to update makes me want to put them in the same category as Viewsonic (unfortunately I also bought the g-tablet).

will be the best hope to get icecream running. if they do so than other rommers will also follow suite. but cm leads the way on drivers and such for most roms. so if they dont do it ussually noone does. But i wouldnt expect to see anything from LG, they have not shown anything in the way of skill or care to put out updates for their devices.
Because there ate stable ROMs out there and you can only do so much. Other lively dev sections ate deceiving - 20 variations of the stock ROM with different wallpapers and start up screens does not mean a lot of development for the phone.

Sure there's no LG camera but there's plenty of camera market apps..
Yeah, I see updates for ROMs pretty often, every 5-10days, that's a good release period, and if you want to use a ROM that is constantly being developed just run CM7, a lot of people say it's not good with battery but if you flash one of morfics kernels you will have great battery life. Some people run into issues with it but if you wipe everything you should be fine. Faux's AOSP Rom+Kernel run great together also.
While development might have slowed down a bit for this phone, there's still plenty of excellent devs and roms to choose from. I have always preferred faux's aosp rom/kernel combo for my daily stable/very reliable/great performing/battery life.
Now if you want to see no development look no further then the mytouch4g slide thread. That's just sad cuz even the og mt4g has tons of devs working on it and its still a great phone.

[q] how about this...

Instead of making roms with all kinds of tweaks how about making an ICS Rom for tmous sensation 4g with everything working? Truthfully all I want in a Rom is an overclock kernel fm radio a browser that I can actually search with and most importantly tmo WiFi calling to work. All that other stuff (i don't know what it is) I could care less about. I just want the previously mentioned features to work and that's it. Sense overlay is nice but not even a requirement. I hear all kinds off sh*t talking about HTC devs that take forever to get their software out but at least when it comes out it seems to work. Instead of these roms that are kicked out to us everyday with a list of important features that just don't work. What is the point? Right now I'm waiting for an official ics update to come out and I'm just sticking to that. Rooted overclocked and thats about it. I have tried many of these custom roms and they all have some stupid problem which should not be happening. What's the point if no features work and the phone reboots all the time? For all this I could have stuck with any off the rack garbage bullish*t android phone. I get the same garbage performance. I mean most of the time people buy a phone because of certain features. But I don't think I'm asking for too much to have a proper stock browser WiFi calling and little or no random reboots. Basically, what's the problem here?

Never once did I imply that I thought it was easy nor did I say I wanted anything so badly, except for working features. In fact I said I would wait for an official update. I don't understand where that reply came from. As far as making a Rom myself I would love to but to ask a question on this website is like pulling teeth so...
OP, don't forget that developers need to release a somewhat working ROM in order for people to test and find things that might be wrong with it. Also you can't really blame them if they get excited and want to release as soon as they got something.
Ha! Wow, that's a pretty disrespectful rant...
You do realize that developers on xda and other sites are not employees, right? Nobody here is getting a salary, and projects that are released are done so for the benefit of the community. HTC has recently made it somewhat easier with OTA, RUU, and ICS kernel sources... yet, many projects are based on reverse engineering a ROM instead of working from the ground up with AOSP source. If something was compiled solely from AOSP then you'd have a pretty lack-luster ROM without any of the fancy functionality I'm sure you're looking for.
Now, add to all of this the fact that google REALLY changed things up with ICS and it's understandable that hiccups are going to occur!
Relax, crack a beer, wait for your OTA, and don't expect others to put work/family/school/etc... aside so that YOU can have wi-fi calling on a custom ROM.

Ha! Wow, that's a pretty disrespectful rant...
You do realize that developers on xda and other sites are not employees, right? Nobody here is getting a salary, and projects that are released are done so for the benefit of the community.
