stock us/ww on cn tft101,help needed - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys
I need a bit help. I bought my tf101 in china and now i need to flash another rom to get access to google play etc.
I have been reading about the reboot issue of ics so i think i wait for asus to fix it before i go there. I think i should stick with 8.6.5.21?I am on stock 8.4.4.11cn.
I have been reading up onth flash threads and it seems that i need to root then install cwm and then flash, right?
Do i need to backup something first? I dont have any info on the cn rom that i need and i dont want to go back to it again.
I have aleready downloaded root and cwm but i cant find ww 8.6.5.21 anywhere, anybody help with link?

well, actually i dont care if it is stock. Most of all i want to get rid of the chinees crap and have google play and youtube on my tf101.
For the moment i also want avoid going to ics until random reboot is solved.
Any help or suggestions?

[Q] ROM flashing? + stock root HELP!!

1I know this has been asked somewhere but what happens when Asus releases minor updates? We have to flash a new rom that will wipe our data??
2Also if I root using the androidroot.mobi procedure, which will give me cwm + Prime (1.4/1.5) can i flash the stock asus rom? will i lose root?
Please help
PS: I am aware of the pure root method but i cant download the file from megaupload. can anyone upload it on dropbox etc.
You have tutorials to just add root for your stock rom, you have cooked rom like Prime or you have stock roms with root.
A cooked Rom like Prime is good because it has minor changes that improves the experience of using your tablet. Everytime ASUS updates (Android 3.2 coming soon) Prime will also update and u dont need to lose your data.
But you can follow the tutorial, downgrade + root + install recovery and leave the tablet as stock rom just having root. So you can use apps that need root.
If you're scared that one day you gonna need to return the tablet for warranty, there is also tutorials to put it back to the start as if it was new.
So i think you should give Prime Rom a try, you will love it.
thanks for the quick reply

Need Market apk

Hi guys,
I just got myself the new Asus TF101 16Gb with the keypad version.
I bought it in China and I saw that there is no MARKET installed. It has the Hi-apk market which has everything in Chinese. Can someone please help me out. How do I get the MARKET apk. Can anyone email me the apk.
Please help.
Regards,
Abinav
Instead of trying to get the US version of the market apk to work on a WW version of stock, I'd recommend just taking the plunge and install a custom ROM onto it. That should already have everything you need pre-installed in it.
If you're not familure with custom ROMs, its not that scary. But you do have to be rooted first. It looks like someone has come up with a superoneclick for all versions. I haven't personally tried it, but that might be your easiest bet at this point. Or you could use the batch file method, which I'm more inclined to do since I don't want to burn a CD.
After that, you should be able to install a custom ROM, which I recommend Prime v1.7 final as it seems to be the crowd favorite around here and has many other themes and mods specifically designed for it. I'm not sure where to download the WW version, but I know he's made them in the past. You might pop over to the thread and ask about it.
i donno if the honeycomb apk will work on your firmware or model cuz u need root but u can try the new phone version apk http://www.filesonic.com/file/1500634081/com.android.vending.apk
donno if the device will give access to the market regardless cuz its a chinese model it may have to be rom flashed to get new ww firmware in there

[Q] HELP Rooting Asus eee Pad TF101G 8.6.6.15 (HC 3.2.1) WW

I had a bran new TF with no 3G it was 8.6.5 and i rooted with no problem but after few days i saw it had lighclith on a side so i gave it back and decided to take the new moddle with 3G and now i cant root it :-( im sooo stuck now if there is no solution coming up soon i will give this one back too and get it with out 3g WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK I SHOULD DO?
Wait and use search.
3G models have a new SBK, so you can not root them at the moment.
Thanks for answer...
Honestly thank you very much but this is soo frustrating i really needed it rooted u dont know other forums or websies where i can check it out i would be even willing to pay $/€ for some one to help me root mi tablet!!!! I find russian and polish forums but i dont understand and translations dont work very well :-( but i think they got it working!!!!
Your tablet is NOT rootable at the moment no matter what languages it's in.
So his tablet isnt rootable? Bummer
1 Last question!!!
So if i get it clear if it is not rooted i cant get a custom rom in it either?
Not even this ? -->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1245892
Or use this? is this not possible?--->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185104
Short answer: No.
Root access is required to be able to install custom roms in the first place, so until someone finds a way around the new security measures, there is no way to install a custom rom or root it. Doesn't matter how often you ask people or if you pay people or not. For the moment, you're stuck I'm afraid
So its not possible to install custom roms without root?

How to update to Jelly Bean?

Before anybody says to use the search function, I've been looking through the general topics non-stop for one that applies to my situation, and either it slipped through the cracks (likely) or it doesn't exist (not likely).
Basically, my tablet is rooted and unlocked, and I'm on ICS; the first one that had face unlock in it. I'd really like to update my tab to JB, but I need to be pointed toward directions for updating a rooted and unlocked tab. But on top of that, I also need recent instructions, because I know that earlier attempts at getting this thing updated have resulted in lots of bricked tabs.
If anybody could tell me if it's possible to update my tablet to JB right now, I'd appreciate it, and if someone has figured out how to do it, can you please point me toward that thread? I'd really appreciate it.

I'm in the same configuration, custom-ics-rom with twrp recovery on unlocked device.
I believe the first thing to do is enabling NVFLASH, that will make things safer also in the worst cases.
I did that and now hopefully I have an unbrickable device.
I'm a bit confused on how to go forward, I know that there are two versions of twrp, maybe I should install the JB version, booting inside it and then flash the downloaded JB update from ASUS site, or use the twrp for ICS for flashing and after that install the JB version ?
Anyone knows what is the correct option ?

Keep ICS, as JB will cause much trouble especially if you are rooted, trying to OC and is generally slowein my opinion
I prefer to try it anyway, tomorrow I will try flashing, after all if something will go wrong I should be able to recover with nvflash.

Thank you, Grim. That's disappointing to hear about JB, but if you think that my current build is better than that (which makes sense considering I've seen at least one thread about downgrading from JB to ICS), then I will keep my tab on ICS for now, and thank you for your input, I appreciate it.

If you have twrp recovery, can't you download the jb ROM from the Asus site for your region and flash it in? I'm unlocked and that's how I upgraded one version of jb to another, but my ICS to jb was ota, so in your case I can't speak from experience. There is a full upgrade, and root guide in the general section.

I just managed to do what you re looking to achieve.
I m pretty noob so it tok me a whole day to figure it out.
So first download jb update on asus website (pick the right one for ur type of tf300)
Flash it through adb
At that point i got jb installation working but bootloop
So i flashed jb version of twrp (adb)
I then went in recovery and flashed clean rom 2.5 which worked flawlessly
Just for the fun i did factory reset afetrwards and stock jb eventually launched right

I successfully installed jb following the guide on this site, the only thing that was not working was the flashing of the stock rom, neither given options worked (fastboot flash recovery or fastboot flash system) , I discovered that our eepad has a partition nmed staging used for firmware installs. I then flashed with
fastboot flash staging blolb
and all went good.
Btw I find the JB better than ics, more responsive and smoother, and also if it is not yet overcooked.

Unroot (i know, again)

I need some help guys, im not a tech savy but i ended up rooting my shield just for the deleting sd card files but now i dont think i want it anymore. i rather have the OTAs.
but here is the catch, i really dont know how to start, i cant find the image anywhere for recovery, i dont know how to flash it, tried to delete super user but now it crashes, cant reboot in recovery mode...
is there someone who can help me out there?
This might help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bT82lX40fuc
Also, just deleting the app doesnt take root away. For that you need to flash the stock image, but if you want to keep root and get otas , do the guide on the link i sent you.
thank you
resolved, one thousand thanks would not be enough...
