first of all, ipad doesnt use apks...
apk is the android package format...
Check this out

And yeah, you can install apps from other than the app store, but sadly it's illegal and requires jailbreaking.

[Q] can you ?

Like most of us, I bought a couple of touchpads. I'm loving the OS, but it lacks apps. I was wondering if its possible to download free paid apps yet ? I would pay for apps but the paid apps are not even that good.
Hmm, I was thinking the the app quality for the touchpad was actually quite high, I'm just leery of spending cash on any apps just to turn around and put android on it.
I put the touchpad in developer mode so I can install anything now. If you guys need help with that I'll make a thread.
Need to install Preware - then you can install all the Homebrew stuff (patches and tweaks) as well as install raw IPK files.

Please do. We are all going to need to know this if the app store dies. Also can we capture and archive the ipk files we download from the app store in case we need to reinstall a purchase app without the app store.

Allow android market, aka Google Play, access on another device

I recently purchased Android Tablets for my children. I want to allow market access to those devices without also giving them access to my Gmail/YouTube, etc....
Anyone know how to accomplish this?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I dont think You can butvyou can add another account the default one. Then add the account with the purchased apps just to install them. Then remove it. That's the way I do it on my devices

Open a gmail account for your kid and use that on the tablet.
Then root the tablet and add gmail.google.com and www.youtube.com to the hosts file.
The root method's a little extreme. My devices are rooted but I don't wanna do that to my kids tablets.
It's kind of silly that you can't just sign into your account in the market.

You can use a browser interface with the market. Just use dolphin or browser of your choice to browse to market.android.com It will redirect to the new Play URL. Log in and you can push apps to your devices. The device must be linked to your account. When you click install it will ask you which device to send the app to. Click the device and it will download and install automatically to the device you specified.
They easiest way would be to root, use root explorer, remove the apks for gmail under the system/app folder, then uninstall all root apps...

Issue installing Root Browser Lite 2.1 - apk request

Hello everyone,
I have been trying to install "Root Browser Lite" version 2.1 from the Google play store, but for some strangely odd reason, i am having a weird issue.
Everytime i try to install it, it says: Cannot install, Inefficient Storage available.
That would obviously mean that i dont have any space left in the Application partition of the internal memory, but to my suprise I do indeed have plenty.
I have over 100mb left. And i can install applications that are over 15mb without a problem, litterally right after trying to install Root Browser.
Its only a mere 1.3 mb download and cant be too much more extracted..
Ive uninstalled applications, cleared my cache, rebooted, among other things and still cant get this one application to install.
Maybe if i install the .apk from my sdcard i could install it properly..? So could someone who has this application be kind enough to share their .apk?
Or we could somehow try to figure this out. But like i said it hasnt been an issue with anything else at all..
Also, so you know and need not ask, ive tried nearly all other file explorers right now, and so far they have all been really lame in my opinion. Currently I like the MIUI port explorer, but im constantly getting force closes so I need a change. Root Browser is really nice and is a file explorer I plan to stick with. (If i can get it anyway...)
I have an older version, but I know he rebuilt the whole app in the recent update so I'd prefer v2.1
Hope some body can help me out.
Id really greatly appreciate it.
Thanks for your time.
Have you tried pushing it through adb?
I have not. As I am not sure how..
Wouldnt I need the apk to do so?
Ohh yeah, you'll need the apk...
There was an extension for google chrome (pc) that allowed you to download apk's to comp from play store...
Just search around, I don't remember its name...
Omg I made a big mistake I meant Root Browser not root explorer... gosh that was dumb...

Does it make a difference?
They serve the same purpose
It does indeed make a difference. I think root explorer is absolutely horrible imo, but I am specifically looking for root browser.
Root browser = sleek and sexy with better functionality
Root explorer = clunky, ugly, dumb icon, fails with its functionality, not much preview thumbnail support, extraction support is a joke, and did I mention ugly?
Just saying id hate for someone to go through the trouble to get the one I absolutely don't want ya know?
Well, you can try file manager by rythm software, for a change...
I can pretty much believe you'll like it...
As regards for root browser, I don't use play store, so am not able to lay my hands on the latest version...
If I get it, I'll pass on the apk of the lite version...
Btw, have you found the chrome extension yet?

Thanks,
So I installed File Manager. I like it, its pretty nice. But I also managed to get Root Browser Installed as well finally, so I am happy about that. So I have kept both of them.
As for the chrome extension, no I didn't yet, because this is the first time I am seeing your post! I wonder how that happened! I was using the XDA Premium application on my phone to post in this thread with you, and for some reason that post didn't show up until I just not visited on my Computer... hmm. weird... But thats really cool, I will get to searching for that right now. I started using Firefox again, with the latest update, since I been using chrome for so long.. But now I am using both, so I will definitely check that out. Do you want to know the name of it when I find it?
And I noticed you mentioned you dont use the Google Play Store for your apps, So what do you use then?
I use other market alternatives like 1mobile market (only free apps here) and others...
I also google around for stuff...
If I still don't find it, I install play store, download apk, and then again remove play store...
Yes please, if you do find that chrome extension, send me along a link

Do you happen to still have the root browser 2.1.0 apk? I'd love a copy. (2.1.1 is giving me issues) Thanks.
ROM toolbox Pro
ROM toolbox pro has root browser and many other features. I can give you a copy of the .apk. I will upload it in this post.

Yes thats right, but only for devices, which supported by that app. I need the apk file to test something and the only supported device I have is the Galaxy Note 10.1 but it´s not rooted, so I cannot extract the apk file from system folder.
Thats the reason why I ask, whether somebody can provide the apk file.
I don't think you are gonna get it as that would be distributing warez... Peel is licenced for the note 10.1 and that only... You might be able to purchase it from the App store but I wouldn't hold my breath....
Download ES File Explorer from the Play store. When you run it hit the APP MANAGER icon. Long press on the app and choose BACKUP. It will create an .apk file. Watch the screen closely and it will tell you where it created it. I believe it's /sdcard/backup/apps.
Thank you, that's working for me.

Also, App Backup from play store, its free. In app settings, choose 'show system apps' and it can backup any apk you need to any location.

[Q] Next Launcher 3D apk file

I bought Next Launcher 3D from Play Store and for some reason I can't find the .apk file. All my other Play Store downloaded files are in /data/app except for the launcher. Even Next Launcher addon files like wallpapers, notification, and themes are in /data/app. Is it possible that Next developers delete the .apk file after it installs or move it to another directory? I just find it strange. The reason I'm looking for it is because I wanted to place it in the system directory. Anyone else know where it might be? Currently using Galaxy S3 Android version 4.1.2.

They most probably have done that or hard coded like that because of piracy issues. So I'm not sure whether you can use it as a system app.
Have you tried making a search for Nextlauncher3D.apk with a file manager?

Yea I figured it out. I didn't know there are "protected apps". I was able to find it in the /data/app-asec directory. It's com.gtp.nextlauncher-2.asec. All of my other protected apps have an apk file but Next Launcher. Even though I paid 15 bucks for it now I'm gonna have to find it somewhere in apk form.

Next Launcher has a Facebook and they upload Beta versions of their launcher, and depending on the version sometimes they're not protected against piracy so maybe you could try those? Also you could just ask them on Facebook, they're really good developers when it comes to replying to the community.
