[Q] The usual "is this normal" questions [sorry] - HTC Sensation

1. I am new to sensation.
2. Device gets hot when used for a while. Normal?
3. Battery life - none! Worst from any of the devices I used (and I had them all)
4. Running Quatrro ICS ROM from Virtouos.

I have an extended 1900mAh battery and it still gets hot at times.
I see your screen takes up a lot and so does mine, but I get WAY longer than 4 hours even on regular battery. Maybe try changing ROM's to see if it makes a difference. Or check out this battery.
http://www.amazon.com/Anker-1900mAh...ZJMC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333056174&sr=8-1

Try installing a different rom & kernel. Then try setcpu or something similar that let's you control CPU clock speeds. Set up custom profiles for the CPU. Whenever mines starts to get hot it underclocks to a slower speed bringing the temp back down.

Thank you both!
From your experience, is the a ROM out there that is known for its good battery life?

Nice find! Now its on!
It's about time, 2.3.4 kernels with oc is just around the corner. I know faux has a 2.3.4 kernel but it's a pia to setup, this should make the kernel cooking much easier.

just checking
with this solve some of the stability issues or problems/inconsistencies that are being reported in some of the ROM threads? I have not rooted because there seems to be a minor glitch in almost all the Roms (from what I have seen). Just curious

No real answer for that since most developer cook differently unless they kang.
In all seriousness though, a lot of the minor glitches do actually lead back to the kernels.

Great news, hopefully we´ll see some improvement soon in the dual core CPU in speed and battery life!!
cant wait for the latest Faux kernel!
Could this help fix the audio issue with Xboarder AOSP? I hope so

Really looking forward to this getting great performance on faux kernel already so can only imagine what it'll be like now!

thanks. One of the problems I have is that my bluetooth stereo headset gives the person on the other line an echo when I talk. It did not happen when I used it with my HD2. Would the kernel, if addressed in the cooking, be able to fix the compatibility with 3.0 to 2.0?

Best Rom for battery life??!?

Hey, I was wondering if any knows the best rom for battery life? Stock wasn't to good on battery and I'm trying WeaponG2x as we speak. and lost 5% in battery in the last 20 minutes! From simple texting. Unless that's normal? Just comparing it from my previous phones but anyone know which one is pretty good on battery?? Thanks in advance.
I was on the latest Weapon rom as well, and yesterday all day using the phone for texting and calls only while on wifi calling, I got 12 hours and on 60 something % before I went to bed... I didn't use it for data pretty much at all (I was home all day)... What I have come to, all roms are pretty good with stock kernel and wifi calling on, as long as you aren't playing games or browsing the web like crazy. Those two things make my battery die super fast. Every rom handles things different, I'd say weapons and EB 2.3.3 roms are great on battery.
+1 for Weapon battery life.
I'm a pretty heavy user (data, gaming, web, all day) and I seem to get the best life from Weapon.
On stock GB I was lucky to get 4 hours. Weapon regularly gives me 8+, even [email protected] Weapon stock kernel has even better life.

Hello. I see people talking about clearing battery stats in order to make battery usage perform the best in WeaponG2x. Before installing WeaponG2x I cleared the battery stats in ClockworkMod Recovery. Is this what they are talking about or is there also some setting in WeaponG2x that I need to look at? Thanks.

Thanks! That's the whole reason I'm not using Weapon 3.
And yes, clear stats in cwm. It seemed to help my battery. I did it again after running the mod for about a week.

[Q] What is the best kernel and rom combo?

I was wondering what's the best combo to optimize ram usage to run graphic heavy games such as Shadowgun.
I don't play many games but I have the stock HTC kernel 2.6.35 for the xe and I'm running senseay xe 2.0 Rom and average 300 mb free of ram.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
I use Sense-o-Maniac Sense 3.5 with Bricked kernel 2.6.35.14 overclocked to 1.89Ghz if i need it CPU Tuner is really great to set performance levels.
I too am wondering what's the best rom to go for. I'm currently using InsertCoin 3.4.3, but stability seems a bit patchy on my phone. I've already tried faux123's kernel but it ran way too hot, so I'm using bricked 1.5 instead now. Just wondering if there were any other roms that have been proven to be faster and more stable than InsertCoin.
The Rom I use has been my daily since I installed it the day he posted the Rom. Stable no fc's and I've used brick kernel on it for awhile with a little problems and went back to stock kernel seemed faster not oc'd running at 1.2 MHz.

hypersensation .09 and faux's latest kernel. Im a daily flasher that loves sense and ive been on this one for a couple of weeks. fast, amazing battery life, and if u dress it up nice its the best out there. I play shadowgun and dead space all the time with chainfire3d (just to force higher res settings) its a beast

Look at signature. I find this the best for performance and battery life.

Very low benchmarks!?

So I'm not one to complain about the phone but I feel like my phone has always been sub par with everybody else's scores. Quadrant and An Tutu are bother terrible, and are consistently terrible no matter the ROM I flash. Seems to actually get worse.. what should I do? Flash a stock looking ROM and ask for a replacement and lose root?

Dude, don't worry. I just ran AnTuTu on my old Motorola Backflip and got 508. I got 230 in Quadrant.
Assuming you don't have a million apps running in the background, yeah yours does seem to suck a bit.
I got 6939 in Antutu.
Try to do the swap, but remember that your bootloader screen shows ***TAMPERED*** in big letters up the top so you may well get denied. In Australia you definitely would.
Benchmarking is useless. Ignore them.
Sorry, but if you return the phone because of low benchmarks then please move on to an Apple product...benchmarks literally mean nothing (as long as you're happy with its performance).
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Not sure if you're rooted or not, but try to run benchmarks when the device is cool or even cold. These devices will lower CPU frequency depending on temperature. If you are rooted then set min to max on setcpu, keep the amount of installed apps to a minimum and try a cache cleaner. I did all those and cooling the device to a chill resulted me with this

Im guessing the HOX that is beating yours is the Int. model
Does your benchmark score effect your phones day to day performance? Probably not. Just forget about benchmarks and enjoy your awesome phone.
Sent from my HTC One X
Alright guys I did some more tweaks and got a pretty good antutu score today. It was probably because my phone was hot or something which was why my scores were so bad. For tomorrow I'm going to test some underclocking on stock, to see if I can improve battery life. But scores now:

[Q] Battery performance on Viper XL

I flashed the 3.2.5 full rom on HOX and I find the Wifi to be the biggest battery drain. Battery is at 85% after 7 hours of use. My Wifi stays on always. Its usage is 30%. Never had this trouble on stock ROM.
With regards to ViperXL, everything is stock. I didn't flash a new kernel or wifi/radio. Just flashed the ROM. Experience users before have said to give it a couple of days for the cache and dalvik cache to build up when flashing a new ROM. Does Wifi fall under this as well?
Should I be doing something else?
15% drain sounds pretty good for 7 hours. Also the WiFi use is 30% of 15%

But I didn't use the phone fore anything - apart from turning the screen on a bunch of times, turned on navigation to see if it craps out on (which it did) and used whatsapp. Maybe I should give it a couple of days before I start asking questions about the wifi.
Also, should the new G Maps update fix the problem of Maps on 4.1.1?
Yeah that's nothing to be worried. I used to get about 8-9 hours with at the most 30 minutes of on screen time with stock viperxl and cm10 when it dipped down to 15%. A lot of people are getting worse times than mine. The thing that really saved my battery life was flashing a new radio. Singtel 3.17 to be exact with CleanRom 5.1.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
It sounds like you're getting good battery life with this ROM. I've found this ROM to be much more efficient than the stock ROM, even with Wi-Fi on.
Here's what my battery stats look like after a full day.
