Sensation stock ICS Root - HTC Sensation

I flashed the stock ICS ROM found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542192 but now my phone is no longer rooted.
I tried to follow the old procedure for rooting found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 but the list of HBOOT versions in the revolutionary website do not include my new HBOOT version (1.27.1100).
Any ideas?

1. Wrong forum - should be in Q&A
2. Are you still S-OFF? If so, flash CWM manually and then root again

i think you post to wrong subforum...
but anyway... for now the only way i think is to RUU downgrade but its RISKY to brick your device. if you lost S-OFF look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1522351

Sorry for posting to the wrong forum - maybe a mod can move the thread
Anyway, I am S-OFF, with EXT4 recovery.
I tried su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip, it said in installed correctly, but none of my root apps (eg root explorer) work.
I found su-bin-3.0.3.2-d-signed.zip at http://androidsu.com/superuser/ and installed it, now root explorer works, and I will start checking my other root apps (e.g. screenshot).
Thanks guys

Is it even possible to brick the sensation I rooted 3 samsung phones for friends and family and bricked all 3 before I got em rooted talk about a pain in the ass those phones suck to work with at least the Odin program works great

Bad news. Root explorer works, but any new root app I install says it needs root to run.
Any ideas?

Use the latest SU package and not an old one not for ICS perhaps?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053

Worked like a charm.... Thanks!!

.. so, if I'm back to s-on after ICS (stock) update, there's no way to root (yet) sensation?
thanks!

[Q] What happens with root?

Hello XDA members
I was wondering, when the new android sandwich comes out, and you got a rooted and S-off HTC sensation. But not custom rom. What will happen to the root and S-off when you update to the new android sandwich?
Thanks
Want to know too ahehhe
We'll lose root but keep S-OFF I'd imagine
Cool, thanks for the answer
I have perm-rooted my Sensation and i was wondering when the new official update from HTC comes out will i be able to install it automatically like when i was not rooted or because i am S-Off it will not let me?
Thanks
i could be wrong but no you wont be able to perform an ota update. im only saying this because the last ota update failed because the update looks for the stock recovery in order to update the system. seeing that you are rooted i assume you have cwm installed and if this ota update does indeed look for the stock recovery than it will fail. the only way around this is to either instal a stock ruu and lose root or instal the stock recovery and again lose root. either way you are gonna lose root.
Could you give me a link where there is a guide to install the stock recovery?

If you check the development forum, there's a thread which has shipped roms in it. Flash one to restore stock recovery.

Depends. If you're just running the original rom which came on your phone but rooted, it should still allow ota updates, but you'll lose root (but keep s-off). If you're on a custom rom you won't receive an ota.
To OP, if you ran an ruu or ota of ice cream sandwich, as eddy says, you'll lose root but remain s-off. That said, a custom ics rom will probably come out weeks/months before an official HTC update
Well, when we got the RUU, we can extract and repack to our rooted ROM
It should be this if i am right ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559

That's true, but we'll see aosp ics roms long before we have sense skinned ones, as cyanogen et al don't need to spend months porting frameworks.

Yes I am running the stock rom so I will receive the pta update. I know that I will lose root in every scenario if I install the stock ROM one way or another.
Thanks.

So i just flash one of these roms, without deleting cache or doing a reset ?
not entirely true. i was rooted on stock rom when the last ota rolled out. i tried installing it but it failed. i did a lil search here and found a few people mentioned that it failed due to cwm and they also mentioned that you should try flashing back the stock recovery. i tried that and it installed successfully. easy way to get the stock recovery is to instal the correct ruu of your rom. but as we all know it wipes out everything off your phone. i did find this guide which the stigx has asked for (sorry buddy didnt see you there ) which shows you how to extracted the stock recovery off of the ruu and than flash it back to your phone.

But if I need to follow your guide i have to have the OTA update file,w hich haven't comet out yet. What do i Do? It seems so hard to remove root and custom recovery :'(
But thank for your answer !
well the general idea is to get your stock recovery back without losin your data. so really all you need to do is flash your stock recovery reboot your phone and check for updates. if updates are available: system>about phone>check for updates, download the update and install. it shouldnt fail cause you have stock recovery instead of cwm. in short just do the top part of the guide and skip the rest cause you dont have the updates file on your computer.
So if i do step 1-12 I will have normal phone? Just like I started or do i still keep root?
Thank you so much for your hep !

yes you do 1-12 but you keep root. the only difference is that you will no longer have cwm for flashing, back up, and all other goodies. but once you run the ota and it installs you lose root.
but have a look at the link frederikh just posted. seems alot better than the current method. im reading over it now
Thanks for the answers!

i want to know if you know ... i upgraded to 4.0.3 by flashing the entire rom and kernal at the same time with Heimdall!
Heimdall has terrible support now(mac user here ) Anyway my phone never boots when i try to root it ... i tried the oneclick root - the doomlord ZergRush which i think is only for 2.3.6 roms - trying to get cwm on root permission - and flashing Kernals stops my phone booting - and one click methods just don't do anything when they complete!
So i tried ALL rooting methods and none work!
Should i go back to 2.3.6 and try doing it again from there?
Then i can upgrade once i'm rooted?
Or do i upgrade and then root again?
i'm so confused ....
At least i got my WIFI back by clearing out my cashe (but now with this i think i just give up since my phone works and battery is good)
But can i flash a complete 2.3.6 rom all in one go ?
Then what do i do from there?
THanks

How to root on 4.0.4(2.20) and install google now

I have an HTC One X updated to 4.0.4, software number 2.20.502.7 710RD. I messed up my phone trying to install a cyanogenmod 10 preview but messed up flashing a recovery. Long story short, it would not boot into the regular firmware and wouldn't let me get access anything but the bootloader menu, flashboot, and cwm recovery menu. I ended up using the ruu, htc_one_x_RUU_2.20.502.7_att_us_08022012. I heard that you can't root this new firmware unless you still have you unlock token id thing which i do. I tried running the same tool I used to root my phone before and it did unlock the bootloader but it didn't root it. It installed supersu but not the su binary. If someone would be willing to walk me though rooting my phone that would be great and if someone would be willing to link me to the most up to date clockwork mod recovery page that would be great. And if I misheard and it isn't possible to root at all right now then just say so and I'll shut up. Also all I want to do is install google now for ics on my phone, not flash a rom, because I heard that it wouldn't be safe to do that right now.

Not safe to flash a rom? Of course it's safe. Just flash one and you'll have root. Otherwise stay on stock with no root.

He can't just flash a rom with the new hboot you will need to flash the boot image from fastboot unless flashing a rom that is 2.20 or 2.23 base and even then he will.lose init.d support if he skips flashing the boot from fastboot

How to Root 4.04 w/ unlock token
Ok, this is what worked for me. First, make sure you have your bootloader unlocked with your unlock token. CIDspoofer will not give you root, but it will unlock your bootloader with the unlock token.
Next, go here http://theunlockr.com/2012/06/05/how-to-install-twrp-2-1-recovery-on-att-and-rogers-htc-one-x/ and download the twrp recovery image and flash it with adb running the commands in the instructions.
Get yourself the 4.04 stock rooted zip from here in the OP of this thread. Take your pick of ODEXED or DE-ODEXED. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812459
Put zip on sd, reboot into recovery, flash the zip and you should be good to go. Stock, rooted update.
I hope this helps.
Ok, I am really excited now. Instead of flashing just a rooted version of the stock, would it be possible to flash to a jelly bean rom. If so how would i do that and which jelly bean rom is the most stable. I am really excited to use google now. I have flashed twrp and can flash the new firmware if i need but if I can get a jelly bean rom that would be preferable.

Just check the dev section. Whatever you find for Jellybean isn't going to be 100% since it's being worked on by the devs, and it's not official. If you don't care about camera and video not working, check out cyanogenmod 10 alpha in the original dev section.

If you've unlocked the bootloader you can't do any of that other stuff. You need to fastboot flash a recovery.img. Then flash a ROM from there. Instructions in the Ace Think Tank in the Desire HD General section. Note that the DHD and the I4G are essentially the same phone and have the same rooting instructions, and they can use each others' ROMs.

oh really? I thought i had to first unlock the bootloader to root the phone or is that to jus use a custom rom? i can relock like i did earlier. is that what i need to do? I'm new today here. wondering if i posted in right category after i posted. i see a development one to..
There are two ways to root and flash a custom ROM. One is S-Off. The other is unlocking the bootloader. S-off's tool has been retired, so you can only do it manually. You can still root and flash custom ROMs with an unlocked bootloader, though.

What's an XGS ROM? You're hanging on the boot splash because #6 had an error. Fastboot flashing the ROM zip's boot.img is essential because you are S-On.

Like I said earlier, there are two ways you can root and flash custom ROMs, S-On with unlocked bootloader and S-Off, and you can't have both. If you want S-Off, you would need to relock. And since AAHK (the S-Off tool) is retired, you can only manually S-Off now (which is something I would only recommend for advanced users). Using outdated tools, like AAHK and SuperOneClick, can get you in very bad predicaments very quickly (and I should note that you will probably not find support for those cases). You can look into other ROMs though, and note that the Inspire 4G and the Desire HD are basically the same phone and can use each others' ROMs. Since you are now rooted and can flash custom ROMs through recovery anyway, I would strongly advise that you stick to flashing ROMs now and not try to get S-Off.
LTE is a hardware issue. I4G and DHD don't support it.

[Q] Root trouble after updates (JB and Moonshine S-Off)

Hey sorry to bother you but you seem like a guru in almost every Android topic but i have an issue at hand.
I have a HTC One SV from Boost Mobile. At first i was running ICS with root and CWM as my recovery, as your aware the JB update came out and i really wanted to update so i did the method from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...0&postcount=18 i was successful in the update, i did not check if i still had roost after the update. So i also noticed that there was a moonshine s-off method available and i proceeded with the method and successfully removed s-off. I also noticed that by doing the s-off method it also included root; so then i decided to check if root survived but i come to find out that i lost it. My original root i was using was ChainsDD superuser and the moonshine uses SuperSU, what options can i do in order to fix and gain root again? or did the JellyBean update patched root access?

You need custom recovery for boost, look here.
From within the custom recovery you should be able to flash something like this.
This should bring you Supersu app & SU binaries.
