Need a quick answer about GSM networks.. - General Questions and Answers

Well I have a Desire S at the moment , it runs on Orange Israel.
I am looking to buy a SGS II T989 from the marketplace here but it says that it runs on :
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100
While Orange Israel runs on :
GSM 900/1800 frequency and UMTS technology.
When I installed new rom on my Desire S it asked me what carrier I use , I picked Orange(3g) so I assume that I need a 3g phone that runs on gsm 900/1800 right? Or the SGS II T989 will work on Orange Israel?
Thanks for answers.

As you listed the frecuencies...
With at least one frequency compatible it will work.
It's only a few contries that use 850/1900 and your new Samsung will work on these countries either.

All carrier's in Israel use 2100mhz for HSDPA /HSPA+ ("3.5G") though some also use 850mhz as well like pelephone and celcom.

T-mobile UK, will it work?

If i buy the Droid 2 Global from America and unlock it, will the 3G/UMTS work with my T-mobile UK sim.
Frequencies are: My current UK T-Mobile Pulse which of course works fine GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 HSDPA 900 / 2100
Droid 2 Global GSM 850/ 900/ 1800/ 1900 UMTS: 850/ 1900/ 2100
is the omission of the 900mhz UMTS band a problem?

[Q] Garminfone HSPA frequencies

I have a T-Mobile Garminfone A50 in Canada.
Here's the question: the Nuvifone A50 has different specs than then USA released Garminfone a50. Namely the HSPA frequencies.
the Nuvifone A50: "Networks: HSDPA Cat 8 7.2Mbps, HSPA / WCDMA 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100, GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900, GPRS EDGE Class 12"
From T-Mobile USA: Networks: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900, GPRS EDGE Class 12, UMTS HSPA 2100/1700, HSDPA Cat 8, 7.2 Mbps.
Looks to me as though the European Nuvifone A50 supports HSPA 850/900/1900 where the T-mobile USA one does not.
So, will rooting permit the T-Mobile phone to use the full spectrum of frequencies as the A50 does in Europe? I need the 850/1900 MHz range to get coverage where i live and i really like this phone and would rather not throw it in the garbage.
seems to me that it should be possible. i would think that they are the same phone just tmobile has locked those frequencies somehow? I'm new to the forum and hacking and would really appreciate any help/tips/tricks. basically the same question was posted by Spazmogen a year ago but i couldn't find any replies. Please help if you can! thanks
Had anybody got any further on this issue?
So far all my searches have come up with nothing certain. There is a lot of speculation about how the phones are built but that is about it. It will really suck if this phone wont handle 850 Mhz! (Au phone here btw)
Any gurus out there with more of an idea?

[Q] Euro & Asian LTE hardware differences?

I noticed that there are differences in the radio frequencies used between the Euro and Asian LTE C525U HTC One SV's as follows:
2G Network
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network
HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100 (Europe)
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 (Asia)
4G Network
LTE 800 / 1800 / 2600 (Europe)
LTE 1800 / 2600 (Asia)
What I was wondering are these difference actually in the hardware between the 2 models or is it just software or ROM that is on them. Such that if you had the Asian model and you were in Europe could you just flash the European LTE RUU and then have the EU frequencies on the phone instead of the Asian ones. This would be for an unrooted phone.

Any GSM/HSPA network, which means about 99.99% of all networks in the world. Since you live in the USA, it means AT&T and T-Mobile (on most areas, in some places T-Mobile still didn't move their 3G band to the international standard frequency of 2.1GHz).
