[INFO] ICS Kernel - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

For those that haven't tried, it is possible to underclock the stock kernel.
So if you are looking for more juice out of your stock build, give it a shot.

underclocking is possible with stock kernel on any android device, its undervolting and overclocking which require custom kernels, to overcome inherent hardware protections instilled in stock kernel

[Q] Stock and Custom Kernels?

What is so great about a custom kernel compared to a stock one? I know you can underclock and overclock with a custom kernel, but sometimes, doesn't that just give problems to phone, like crashing. With a stock kernel, I am pretty sure I won't have to deal with as many problems. I guess my real question is what is SO beneficial about using a custom over a stock? Is the stock not good enough?

[Q] Anyone using an older Kernel on ICS ROM and have stability ?

I keep flashing and flashing kernels.
Air
Matrix
Steve Garon
Trinity
Franco
etc
etc
Does anyone use an older dated kernel of any of these on any ICS ROMS and have such stability and good battery life that they are unwilling to upgrade to anything else ?
If so, what is your combination and setup ?
Thanks
Griff
airkernel 3.0 is what I use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21935053&postcount=1 its been good to me

I'm quite happy with the stock CM9 kernel. What ROM are you using? Have you tried sticking with it's stock kernel? There's generally a reason the ROM dev chooses the kernel they do.
I have had good results with CM9's stock kernel and the Air kernel for ICS. I had instability with matr1x and trinity.
Im using franco's 1.1 and while it's very bare bones (no bln/bld/voodoo/oc etc) the kernel performs amazingly well and I couldn't be more pleased. I got tired of reboots with other kernels and haven't suffered even a single one yet.

[Q] No frills CPU with stock kernel?

Can i use No frills CPU or any other cpu controller with stock rom and kernel?
Yes I believe you can as long as your rooted.

Yes, you can. However you won't be able to overclock anything since the stock kernel doesn't support that. You can only change governors and I/O scedulers. If you want to stay on the stock kernel but have the ability to overclock/undervolt, you can try SebastianFM's kernels.
I also tried to overclock my CPU with stock kernel. Is does not work and changing the governors just makes the phone a bit slower for me cause the kernel doesn't really support is. Try senseomaniac rom, has the bricked kernel. I am using now and works great.

You don't have to change ROM to use another kernel . If changing the governors makes your phone slower, you probably tried 'conservative' or 'powersave'.
Yeah I know for only changing kernel, but is much easier to flask complete rom then only kernel, kernels differ and are many for different phone roms made for spicific phone then kernel will work. I had screen off governor set to 1cpu and 192 fq, made the unlock slow

No i was unable to use No frills, i set min to 192Mhz, in the application it says 192Mhz but actually it stays at 384Mhz.
I think he meant stock rom. You need a custom kernel to change the frequencies and voltage, that includes lowering the lowest possible frequency (384 to 192).
Yes, i apologise, min was 384. Didnt pay much attention to the numbers

ASOP kernel

Wish we had a good aosp kernel with CPU and GPU overclocking this device is more than capable with overclocking. Currently I'm running latest stock 4.4.2 with boeffla kernel but would love to use a lollipop rom with the same features as boeffla kernel but with andi stopping development for this device think its the end of the road for this device

Rom/Kernel

I wonder which combination of rom and kernel do you guys recommend for strictly battery life!?
currently on cm13 with built in kernel. it's not bad but are there better options especially after tweaking the kernel?
greetings
Use what you think is best, every device reacts differently to a kernel. Flash the available options see what fits best for you.
I recommend fire kernel, my kernel (ruthless) or Optimus kernel.
Honestly, without significant tweaking, stock rom and kernel provide the best battery life.
