Unable to save events in calendar in CM7 and aospX - HTC Inspire 4G

I believe these are bugs, but I cannot post in the respective threads. Anyone else experience the issue in the thread title?
Basically, after a fresh flash, attempt to create a new event. aospX will prompt you to enter a google or corporate email account. If you decline, it'll tell you that no calendar is found and that a calendar account needs to be present, but you have to first enter a sync account and allow it to finish. In other words, if you don't want to enter a sync account, you're out of luck. It just won't create a local calendar.
With stock and stock-ish ROMs, the system seems to have no issues creating a local calendar after a fresh install even though I don't enter any sync accounts.
This basically makes the calendars unusuable for anything more than date reference - except CM7, I don't think it's even possible to merely even view the calendar. I've tried the latest stable version of CM7. I haven't tried the nightly yet. I couldn't download it last time I tried. The site is broken, as is the site for the changelog.
CM's tracker has what I believe to be this issue as Issue 4818. There's even some code someone posted over there - maybe it'll help the devs.
thanks.

GIve the app Business Calendar a try. might be a decent work around. personally i like it better anyways.

thanks. I've tried that, but it seems to depend on the built in database. If there's no local calendar already in existence, Business Calendar will complain.

this could possibly be what youre looking for
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwxLDEsImpwLmNvLmpvaG9zcGFjZS5qb3J0ZSJd
i guess im not really finding anything as far as 'non synced' calendars. maybe too low of a demand for something you cant sync with you computer or work computer

Thanks, I'll give it a try to see. You're right, I imagine most people probably enter in a google or corporate account. I guess that means I might be waiting a long time for a fix!
edit: it's not that I don't want something that cannot sync at all, only something that won't complain if it isn't synced with an online account; something that can function fine without any linked accounts.

Facebook Issues

I'm having an issue with the built in facebook support, I can sign in to flickr and twitter, but when I try to sign in to my facebook so I can link with contacts, it says that the service is currently unavailable....something I'm missing? I'm running fresh rom 0.7 with the patches.
I am having the same problem. Are you using the Hero or Eris? I have an Eris and am having this problem.
I'm seeing this post topic on all the boards right now. It must be down.
It must have something to do with the new privacy settings that Facebook just implemented.

i wonder if maybe you need to log in to facebook.com from your phone and accept the privacy policy?
Thats a no go. I just logged in to Facebook with the Android app and I still can't login through the Social network option.
Facebooks no privacy settings reset all of your privacy and app options. We may have to wait for an update for it to work properly, but mine doesn't sign in either, not even Bloo or Fbook.
not sure but....
after many...many....many retries it finally connected, that was weird, I just hope that I never have to go through that again (no more wipes for me unless absolutely neccesary)
Anyway, weird glitch, I could log in with the Facebook for Android app though, so not sure what would have caused that.

I'm pretty sure all that app does is interact with their website as opposed to using the API. Looks like the problems were with the API.
www.facebook.com is down as of right now. I tried from work internet and my phone 3g.
I imagine they are having some problems.
Good thing I found this post, I didn't notice a problem until immediately after installing unofficial MoDaCo 1.2c and I've been flashing recovery images all day trying to fix it.
It is working for me now. I haven't done anything to either my phone or Facebook options sense yesterday. Wonder what it was? Oh well, as long as it is working.
Facebook sync appears broken
To give you a little background, I've had a rooted Hero for quite a while now. I have been running Fresh 1.1 since it was released. I have also had my Facebook linked so I have all of my contacts with pictures and info in my phonebook.
Well after a few other mods on my phone like taskbars, icons, etc. I decided to wipe and go back to a fresh install of Fresh 1.1 again. I linked my Facebook profile again and after a few hours everyone was showing back up in my contacts list with pictures and such.
Last night my phone started acting weird and alot of things were FC'ing, maybe 3 or 4 things, but I didn't look at what specifically. Later last night I realized all my facebook stuff was gone again from my contacts list. I thought that maybe it was because of one of the processes that FC'd so I restarted the phone but as of this morning still a phonebook full of blank heads.
Anyone else had this issue? I've tried logging out and logging back in and everything. Any help would be appreciated, the phonebook looks so ugly without everyones pictures.
It may be a coincidence, but facebook itself has some severe issues right now. Some people are of a mind that the "new" viewing heuristics are themselves broken. You now view based on your history and interactions with/of your friends. My age there is 100 so it they write (email) to me personally.
Facebook Error
I am unable to sign into Facebook from the app it from HTC senses Facebook. I have tried wiping everything and various ROMs but im having the sane problem. any help would be appreciated
Sync Facebook Calendar
I am having a problem getting my facebook calendar to sync. I am running a Damagecontrol 2.1 Rom when I 1st set the phone up I'll see my facebook calendar entries in my calendar and eventually they disappear and the option to disply the facebook calendar also disappears. Does anyone have any insight?
facebook/google birthdays
i have some contacts that i have entered birthdays for in my google address book, however they are also friends of mine on facebook. i noticed within the calendar widgets that it lists the birthdays for these contacts twice once for the google contacts calendar and one for the facebook calendar. Is there a way to fix this so for linked contacts it only lists the birthday on one calendar.

uncheck facebook in your calendars to show.
well i would like the birthdays of friends who i dont have on google to show up still, i just don't want duplicates and i dont want to go through all my google contacts and remove their birthdays.
Contacts facebook link
Is there a way to link all contacts with their appropriate facebook account automatically, i remember in 1.5 it would auto predict and suggest linking automatically for all the contacts, there is no option to do all contacts in 2.1...
anyone know of a way to go about doing that instead of painfully going one by one...

go into contacts and add a "corporate email" account. add your gmail account credentials. finish the account setup and make sure there's a box that asks if you want to sync calendar, make sure its checked. wait about 5 min after the dialogue and you should be set.
at least that's what I did to get my calendar and my contacts sync'd.
good luck.

This only syncs your default Google calendar -- and some of my entries are missing. My other Google calendars have never appeared. (I'm on Google Apps.) Contacts do work this way.

Go to Contacts, then Accounts on the menu, then Add Account, then choose Corporate. Enter your gmail credentials, then on the next page enter /[email protected] and m.google.com as your login info (if it's not already entered for you). It'll take a while for the contacts and calendar stuff to sync.
I set this up without using corporate email, and I have multiple google calenders syncing. I'm not on google apps, just regular google account.

What ROM are you using?
I have never seen an option to set up a Gmail account, using Google Contacts under TNTLite. When you first set up the tablet, and it sets up your default Google account, it sets up mail, but never gives the option for contacts/calendar. (This goes for both a Gmail account and a Google Apps account.) If I look at my accounts via the Gmail app, the Sync Management page shows only Mail as a sync option, with no Calendar/Contacts options.
On my Nexus One, when you go to add an account under Contacts, "Google" is an option along with Corporate (and Twitter and Facebook, if you have those installed). But, on the tablet, under TNTLite, there is no option to add a Google account, only Corporate and the others.
I've mentioned this a bunch of times, hoping that someone with more knowledge would take some time to figure out why--is it because TNTLite installs Gmail 2.3 as the default, and not 2.2? What is it about the account setup that only creates a link between a Gmail account and Mail, leaving Contacts and Calendar out in the cold? And how come when adding a new account you have no option to add a new Gmail account, like on vanilla Froyo?

There are apks, that need to be installed to sync calenders and contacts for non coporate I believe, as it was not in my syncing options until I installed these. They are GoogleCalenderSyncAdaptoer.apk, GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk

I am using CM6.1B4 for the ROM, I had the same issue under this rom where I could not add another google account or calenders/contacts. I followed this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842590) and I was able to get it to work where I have multiple gmails accounts, and can sync contact and multiple calenders. At first when following that thread it killed my rom, so I had to clear cache/data, reinstall rom, and then all was fine. I removed the an Email.apk(?) and that got rid of the corporate email account since I don't use one. I beleive you can just install the apk's from that thread to get things to work, the *SyncAdaptoer.apk's. I have gmail 2.3 so I don't think that is the issue. Not sure what apk controls being able to add multiple gmail accounts since I think that always worked for me, although I remember messing with things and not having that ability anymore. Hope this helps.

I've tried multiple times to just install the SyncAdapter.apk files, and always get Application Not Installed. Maybe there's a certain procedure to follow? (install them after wiping data, and before doing the Google Account set up?)
I tinkered with getting calendar to sync with my Google calendar last night. I was successful in getting "Touch Calendar" from the market to sync, but not the Calendar that is included with TNT Lite 2.0.2.
Process: I went to the Contacts App and added a second email account (same as the first). By default, it labeled it as a "Corporate Account". The original one was labeled as "local only" or some such. In the wizard that takes you through creating the account, there are checkboxes for Sync Email and Sync Calendar. They are at the bottom of the page, so make sure you scroll down every page in the wizard or you might miss them. I don't believe Calendar is checked by default.
I don't particularly like the "Touch Calendar" app, but it is functional. If anyone else has a Calendar App that is working - please let me know about it. I don't know what Roebeet has included with TNT Lite 2.0.2., but that one is not working for me. It looks like the TapNTap calendar to me.
Talk2Rider--
The calendar in TNTLite 2.02 is the default TNT Calendar, not the Google Calendar (Roebeet went back to the default TNT Calendar in his TNTLite Supplements). You're seeing your Google calendar stuff in Touch Calendar because that's keying off the Corporate account that you set up, while TNT Calendar doesn't use that.
The Corporate account set up doesn't help those of us who are trying to get multiple calendars to sync in the Google Calendar app. The need exists to be able to add another Google account (like you can in vanilla Froyo), not doing a workaround of a Google account as a Corporate account.

These are system apk's so just drop them into the /system/app folder and reboot. But I didn't do that, I installed the whole package from that link I posted, and had problems at first where it hosed everything for me, but after clear data/cache, reinstall rom on top (doesn't wipe out these apks) everything was working.

Tried it (putting just the *SyncAdapter.apk files in /system/app, and rebooting), then deleted my existing Google Apps account, rebooted, but I still don't get the option to sync calendar/contacts as a Google account, and no ability in Contacts to add a Google Account.
I'm guessing if I install the entire TNT Keyboard/Gapps update.zip, then wipe data and then reinstall TNTLite 2.0, it might work. Just trying to decide whether I want to go through all of that.

Ya, I'm not familiar enough of the system apks to know if there was something else that needed to be done to get this to work. I know TnT light doesn't have the Gapp versions of the contact and calender....does it have the gmail.apk already? Best might be to install it all instead of trying to figure out what is going on. You can always use CWM to backup the system and if it doesn't work restore it back.
I don't want to be changing my system and want it stable, but I suspect I will be doing a lot of installing diff roms and wiping for a while till the roms get more stable and feature rich.

TNTLite 2.0 has the Gmail, Google Contacts, and Google Calendar apks. It's only the 2.02 supplemental that replaces contacts and calendar apps with the original TNT installed apps.
I made a half-hearted stab at installing the GApps stuff, then "reinstalling" TNTLite 2.0, but didn't wipe my user data. No change on the calendar/contacts stuff, and this resulted in messed up versions of Maps, Street View, and YouTube, which I was able to salvage through Titanium Backup uninstalls and then reinstalling from the Market. But I imagine getting the Gapps stuff truly working may require a full wipe, probably back to Vanilla TNT, and then installing Gapps first followed by TNTLite. I'm just not in the mood quite yet to go that far.
So, if anyone out there can figure out a way to get full Google account sync access working in TNTLite without having to start over, you'll get a gold star!

[Q] How to clean up my contacts?

Hiya,
I have Google, Exchange and POP3 emails each with a version of contacts, calendar and associated data and also Facebook... Last time I tried to consolidate them I ended up wiping my everything and had to go back to a 2-month old version of contacts from my POP3/Outlook account. Active sync wiped my computer instead of updating my phone (twice)!
I am now back to having messy contacts with people with 2+ different birthday dates in my calendar...
Would anyone suggest the best way to clean up my mess... I'd be prepared to go through my 200 contacts one-by-one again to tidy them up... I just want to know that the result will be all my accounts having the cleaned set and not wiping all my hard work and needing to resort to my backup again.
Thanks for any constructive answers and Happy New Year!

Now you gave me the cab I found the thread here!
Will give it a whirl to see if it does what I want... part of my issue was having google contacts too and then having my phone wipe the PC and not my PC reloading the phone!
Do you have a preference as to which service is the Master list for you? Some people utilize their Exchange for everything including personal while others only merge personal and business inside of Google or their personal PC with Outlook.
I began using Google as the master account holder for all things related to my services. This makes it easy to export, maintain and sync contacts. I stopped using Outlook/Exchange but that doesn't sound like an option for you.
When I was using Outlook I would simply clear out all contacts in my phone, outlook and make sure that Google had the correct info/dates. I would then go use an app called GoSync ( i think) to sync Google to Outlook/Exchange.
I guess it depends on how you are interfacing with Google on your phone and what phone it is...on my WM6.5 phone I was simply using Gmail Exchange to do all this.
Wow, I typed all that and don't know if I added one answer...did any of that make sense?

Touchdown Contacts on 2.3.3

This has been bugging me for weeks and I've yet to hear a response from Nitrodesk's support team.
From the synced contacts list in the Touchdown app, when you long press on a contact and try to add it to phone, it will not show up on the phone's contact list.
I made sure the display settings were all checked off in Phone, SIM, and Google to make sure I can see everything.
This worked well for me on Froyo, but I have yet to get it to work on any 2.3.3. ROMs I've flashed.
Can anyone confirm they are having the same issue?
I am running Continuum 5.5 and I can copy contacts to my phone from Touchdown just fine. Have you tried selecting the menu option to copy all touchdown contacts to the phone or is this just a problem with individual ones?
I wouldn't expect any response from Nitrodesk support. They will use any excuse possible to not help you troubleshoot a problem if you are not running 100% stock. At least that is my experience. If you said Captivate and 2.3.3 in the same breath they will most likely ignore you now.

This is just for individual contacts that I want one-by-one from Touchdown to the phone. I can batch copy the entire list to the phone, but that's not what I want to do.
Are you referring to "Update Contact Changes to Phone"? If so, that's not exactly what I'm shooting for. Is there another setting I'm missing that helps with individual transfer?
NM. Problem solved, though I don't clearly remembering having to do this on Froyo.
I had to make sure that my Touchdown account was listed in Accounts and Sync. However, I couldn't just simply add it --- I pressed the Touchdown listing but it did nothing. I had to batch import my Outlook contacts so that it would get added on the overall accounts list. I was avoiding having to batch import so that's why it took me so long to get to this point.
Now that I have it listed, I could now add individual Touchdown contacts to Phone.
Again, I don't remember having to do this on Froyo, or that it added the account without my knowing it.

[REQ] Building K-9 Mail With Exchange ActiveSync Support

Dear xda members,
Today I found this wordpress article from Kriss Wong about the current status of the ActiveSync support in the popular K9 mail android client.
It looks like the project is going on and that the current sources would let us compile a working version. Unfortunately, I don't have the knowledge for that and I am missing many tools to follow the tutorial provided in the article.
If anybody gives it a try, I am sure that posting the compiled apk here would make a lot of people happy

I'll try building when home.
Any news? Very interested in K9 with ActiveSync Support...
I tried building based on the article. It did not work.
Required step for compile, after copying local.properties:
/path/to/android-sdk/tools/android update project -t 9 -s -p .
Built and signed with test key: http://qfs.mobi/f45023
It works except it will not see any subfolders of inbox. =[
EDIT: Yes it will, unless you select the wrong SSL/TLS/etc option or cause account setup to error in any way. If so, wipe data, try again, get it right.
EDIT2: Don't try to change things to use sdcard for data, that'll break stuff.
EDIT3: There's no way to get a list of inbox subfolders back if you break stuff and try to zap account data.
Sweet! I just tried this out and has some strange stuff with not seeing subfolders, so I tried a different type of authentication. It finally worked, but I don't see any emails more recent than about a week ago. I haven't found a setting for the amount of time to sync, does anyone have any suggestions?
Just so everyone here knows, this is alpha quality at best. One large missing feature is to restrict the mails that are synced. The way exchange limits this does not match what is currently available in K-9, so the configuration screens still need to be updated. It will download new mail that is received after the account is setup, however. There is also a large issue with the "sync key" not being remembered after K-9 is restarted. This is how the exchange server knows what to sync. I should be adding this fairly soon. I am also seeing out of memory exceptions, which are proving very difficult to debug.
Unfortunately, my limited free time does not provide me much opportunity to work on this.
I understand the alpha disclaimer, but the basic function seems to be there. Also, I'm amazed that you seem to be the only person working on activesync, when it is clear to me that this is the only thing lacking from K9 Mail.
I also understand time constraints on a side project, so let us know if you need any help. I can volunteer to debug any other alpha builds if you like. (Just send me a pm)
Any progress so far? Is the project still alive? Missing Active Sync is the only deal breaker in K-9...
So the dev said there's still some memory leaks and it is quite crashy... But I'm building it now, should have an APK soon folks...
Don't hold your breath on the quality of EAS support either. This is building straight from k9's repos and a checkout of the EAS branch. So all the NIGHTLY caveats apply. I don't take any responsibility if this deletes all the email from the server, ok? Ok.
Edit - apk attached, latest version - 4.308 - looks WAY better on ICS than the 4.200 version on the Market/Play Store, so even if you don't use ActiveSync/EAS, I recommend this version. I setup GMail with Exchange (ActiveSync) (you have to set it up MANUALLY!!! or else it assumes the default K9 settings for GMail, which is IMAP).
Enjoy.
Would K9 supporting activesync replace touchdown, which is basically required by my company to get email on my device? Touchdown is horrendous.
Thanks Arrrrgh!
Works fine with an Office 365 online exchange account and HTC Sensation on stock ICS.
Some system folders have ugly numbers instead of names (such as drafts, sent etc.).
When will this update be integrated into the normal K9 available on the market?

Any progress so far? Is the project still alive? Missing Active Sync is the only deal breaker in K-9...

The K9 devs all seem uninterested. Otherwise, it would be implemented a long time ago.
Also, the feature to insert pictures rather than attach them, is not interesting to develop.
Despite the fact that it's already present, in the K9 clone "Chiara Mail" on Google Play.
This is all too sad, because K9 had potential to crush all competitors, if they cared...
