[Q] whats odin mode? - General Questions and Answers

i got tired of trying to figure out how to use adb as far as i got to was the command thing and got into android sdk tools but since my device is bootlooped i cant use debug mode there for it couldnt read my device so i did some research on my samsung admire and saw the odin mode flashing ur firmware so i thought oh cool well im in odin mode what is it downloading lol

Basically odin mode is when your phone is recognized by odin. When you have odin installed, your phone will be recognized by Odin when there is a yellow box with COM## (numbers dont matter), assuming you have all the proper drivers installed.

couldnt i download odin on my computer and put it on my sdcard using a cardreader then put the sd card back in my phone then go to system recovery and install iit from sdcard and it will fix my bootloop?

I doubt it, plus why would you want to anyways? Just seems like a whole bunch of extra, if not unnecessary steps. Easiest way to get into odin mode would be to have the proper drivers installed, put your phone into download mode, let Odin recognize your phone by showing a yellow box with a COM followed by any number, the you flashing whatever you need.

but im bootlooped i have to get stuff from my laptop and use a cardreader to put on my sdcard then install from sdcard in recovery

Odin is for windows
Odin doesn't go on the phone it's for your computer.
QUOTE:
You first and foremost need to download ODIN zip file from the XDA developer forum. You will be provided with the link. You can then extract the ODIN folder into your computer.
You can now use the data cable to connect your Samsung phone to your computer.
Put your Smartphone off and remove the battery.
Then you can turn the phone on whilst you hold down you Home, Power and the Decrease volume keys to go into the download mode.
You can now launch the ODIN on your computer. Then click Auto reboot. All together, you can click PIT and select the PIT file that is associated with the Android ROM that you are flashing using the ODIN android. You can now click PDA and make sure that you select the TAR file for the ROM.
Last but not least, you can click start to add the ROM to you Smartphone. Note that, the installation will be complete when the phone reboots automatically. You can then unplug the phone and enjoy the new changes.

this will work for my samsung admire and remove the bootloop?

it costs to download odin?

ODIN help

Searched and didnt find an answer. ODIN only recognizes my phone when NOT in download. I can open ODIN, plug phone in and get yellow in com box. Yet when I put phone in DL mode, open Odin and plug phone in, ODIN will not recognize it. I installed drivers through Mini Kies. Any one have any idea? And aslo, Heimdall recognizes the phone also.
Ok so heimdall does see your phone? Have tried using it?
How are performing dl mode?
What i do is:
Take battery out...
Plug cable to phone and pc via usb...
open program odin or one click...
Hold both volume buttons...
Pop battery back in....
Download mode....
Program should see phone, run it...
Don't hold power button...k

I can get into DL with no problem as seen in pic but ODIN only recognizes phone when just plugged in....not in DL mode. Pics kinda crappy but you can see the :yellow" com in the pic with the screen save on phone. Also..is there a Heimdall of just the GB boot loaders anywhere?
ok...I cant get Heimdall to work either...I downloaded mini kies for infuse ....went through the install of drivers....tried to flash to stock through heimdall...it asked to install drivers..I went through that...tried to flash stock again and it keeps looping into wanting to install the driversl...anyone have any clue?...i have removed all previous drivers before install of infuse drivers....

Heimdall uses its own drivers so if you use it you will no longer be able to use odin on that usb port...
As for it keeps looping.on install drivers...sometimes this helps, close the program reopen it. Unplug usb, put it back in pc, Put the phone out of DL mode and then put it back in then try
Also may wanna try a dif usb port

phone is not being recognised by the pc so how can i use heimdall
So can you not get into download mode?
I can get into the download mode but when I connect the phone there is no response from the computer
I've been trying to get people here to download mobile Odin lite and run it...send their file to chainfire so our device could get the support for it but....I guess they just don't understand what we are missing out on.
I've sent him what was asked for but if others wont jump in and do their part....I give up.
All he asks for is a .pit,a kernal, and the mobileodin.txt that is generated from the mobile Odin program
I think you need to connect your phone in download mode go into device manager and delete all the drivers under the USB section and try these steps
TwitchyEye said:
1. Go here and download heimdall suite.
https://github.com/Benjamin-Dobell/Heimdall/downloads
2. Extract and open drivers folder.
3. Connect your phone in download mode.
4. Run zadig and click show all devices, your phone should then show up in the list.
5. Click install drivers, it should say drivers successfully installed.
6. Try running the heimdall one-click of your choice.
7. Go back to step 3 and flash it again this time with bootloaders.
If it still fails, uninstall whatever USB drivers you have (one guy says he had to uninstall all of them, usually just the phone will do) reboot the pc and try again.
Actually you should go ahead and do this last thing first.
Godspeed

No its in magda623 thread in general where he claims it works on his phone .
Its basically Odin on your phone so you can flash back to stock for what ever reason....whether returning back to bml from mtd or a soft brick etc. Without having to hook up to your computer.
Lol no it won't brick you it simply creates a txt file that you send to chain fire so he can see what he needs to do to make our device compatable.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S - cant flash

Hi there,
I've read every kind of threads here and no one works for me. I rooted my Samsung GT-I9000 and all worked well, then the phone started acting crazy, my root was gone and when I boot the phone I come to the usual screen where you enter pincode but after that the popup screens start, multiple popups saying that twlauncher crashed, media, acore etc.. so I cant get to the screen where I can enable usb debugging. I can enter the stock recovery and my PC can contact the phone, but when I press vol down + home + power so I get the download mode the PC cant find the phone, not in win7 or in Linux. I have tried every kind of driver there is for Samsung but no one works that make it possible for the PC to find the phone when it is in download mode, win7 list it under "unknown device" and NO driver at ALL works so win7 can reqonize the phone. I've tried installing Kies how many times I dont know and uninstalling, updated SDK, uninstalled every USB driver and even the hubs and installed them again, updated win7.. what can I do to flash the phone!?!? Because Odin, no matter old from new; cant find the phone in DL mode, same with linux. And in stock recovery, I wiped cache and data but the problem is still there when I enter the OS after enter my pin...
How can I flash my phone without PC finding the phone in DL mode and no USB debugging enabled? Or how to flash CWM so I can flash a ROM from SD? Please help!!
At first try another PC with Winsows or use another USB cable.
About recavery-try to find temperery recovery or cwm, that flash from recovery.

As I wrote, my desktop is under Linux and the laptop under Win7 and none can reach the phone, both computers can only detect the phone in Recovery mode, but the laptop under Win7 only detect the phone as offline, Linux on the other hand can reboot phone into recovery from recovery, to download mode and reboot normal. Already tried to use Ubuntu 13 Live and it cant detect the phone in DL mode either. And tried different cables also. And if I find a recovery or CWM, then what? Dont I need to get phone into DL mode to flash something?
But in Linux I've got a small breakthrough, Heimdall can detect the phone know, but fails to flsah anything. Maybe wrong files or something..? But anyhow, if Heimdall now can detect the phone and it couldnt before; know I just need the right files to flash.
Just find a friend who owns Windows desktop/ laptop, download stock from Sammobile, flash stock via Odin. If not, try Odin mobile...

Put GT-P5100 in the search box and choose the Rom that you want from the list. You'll need to register to get the link.

You need to quote me in your reply or I don't get a notification.
There's nothing to stop you rooting it again and extracting the data from your nandroid backup once you've installed the Rom

You can't really restore them, because they're on a different ROM, it'd overwrite all your fresh and fast ROM.
In two words: you can't.
You will need a country specific firmware, where did you buy your P5100; was it from.. anywhere in the world? Check for a sim card slot.
If it doesn't, get on to reading!
1. Find how much bits your windows is.... this can be done by opening the start orb in the bottom left corner, then right-click on computer. Click Properties, and look for 64 or 32.
Pick 64 if you have 64, or pick 32 if you have 32.
2. Install drivers according to your bits.
These will ensure good experience.
- 64bit: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOB...dows-x64.shtml
- 32bit: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOB...dows-x86.shtml
3. Download UK recovery! That is, if you don't have a SIM card slot.
Find here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=22456
Now, I was quite lazy to write a tutorial, so I did copy some sources. they will all be given credit.
1. Download and Install the Samsung USB drivers to your PC from the link above. Reboot your system once after installation. If you have already have KIES installed you can skip this step
Extract the Odin Package you downloaded earlier to your desktop. Look for the Odin exe file. That's the only one we would be using
Extract the downloaded stock firmware zip file to your desktop
On your Tab, go to Settings > Developer Options and Enable USB Debugging
Now Power off your Tab completely. We will now be putting your device into Download mode or Odin Mode as it is also called. Download mode is basically a Samsung Exclusive mode which allows flashing of firmware via Odin. Odin can only communicate with Samsung devices when they are in Download Mode. To get there, press and hold these keys together: Volume Down + Power. Then press Volume Up to enter download mode
On your PC, launch Odin by double clicking the exe file in the Odin folder. Just make sure that Samsung KIES is not running on your PC at this time. KIES and Odin don't like each other very much.
Connect your Tab 2 to PC using the OEM USB cable. Any microUSB cable should work, but I prefer to use the one supplied with the phone to avoid any unforeseen complications. You should see the message Added!! in the main Odin message box like in the screenshot below, as well as as COM Port number in the first slot directly above the message box, which tells you that Odin has recognized your device
odin_zpsc9caf496.jpg
In Odin, click the PDA button, locate the stock firmware .tar file that you extracted in Step 3. If there are additional file for the modem and CSC, add those as well. Make sure the Auto Reboot and the Reset Time boxes are checked and Re-partition box is NOT checked.
Double check everything in Step 8, then hit the Start button to restore your Tab 2 to stock Samsung firmware
Once Odin has finished flashing the CWM recovery, your Tab should automatically reboot. And if the flashing was successful, you should see the word PASS! against a green background at the top-left in the Odin window. This means it is now safe to disconnect your device. There is nothing to worry.
It is easy to solve this.
Just download Odin in your pc.
Download the official firmware if your device here.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-P5100/
Now open Odin In pc
Connect your device to the pc .
Now in the app under PDA browse for the firmware you have downloaded and click start.
Wait till it says pass.
That's it you have successfully solved your problem.
Now it will take some time to boot.
In case you feel that you are in a bootloop just go to recovery and perform a factory reset .

Greetings;
I don't know if you already entered Download Mode...
Most problems accessing Recovery and Download Modes are due to having the USB Cable connected.
Remove the cable; press the key combination; and it will boot.
(Except if there's some incompatible ROM flashed by mistake).
After that plug the USB Cable again (if your USB Drivers have also installed for Download Mode) Odin will recognize it (like shown in your Screen Shot).
REMEMBER:
While Flashing do NOT Remove USB Cable, untill Odin Displays "Pass" message.
Further issues: Let us know. We're would be Glad to help.
