[Q] About downgrading HBOOT to 1.17 - HTC Sensation

I have a question, how could i downgrade my HBOOT to 1.17 and if i do, if i restore my nandroid backup of my stock gb, will i loose my root? And custom recovery? And will that restored backup contain the software version, ruu name, radio and firmware and kernel? Thank you very much. And is it safe to have different ruu when you're with CID 1111111?
I followed the SUPERCID method of flashing thats why im on CID 11111111 i just want to make sure and verify if my stock rom was asia or wwe_asia.
Any response would be greatly appreciated. Noob here.

I have done this, when I send back my phone for repair. You can download the 1.17 firmware here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767 and flash it. If your on ICS now for sure it wont boot after flashing the 1.17 delete the firmware file PG58IMG.zip from your sd card (put your sd card on a card reader ), coz no other way from the phone you can delete that. Make sure you already have your nandroid backup, after deleting boot again at recovery then restore your nandroid gb. then you should be able to restore your gb.

Do i need to flash a radio first or something? or its already on the gb backup? Will i lose my root and custom recovery too? And will it contain the software version and ruu name? no need to change cid first before downgrading?

You will be rooted same as you were when you performed you Nandroid backup. If you flash RUU you will lose root and custom recovery. Your radio, ril, and kernel will be what they were at the time of your backup. You don't need to doSuper CID again if you already did it once.
Here is the thread with all of the h boots and guides. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767

Thank you for responding. What would be the steps then? Im a total noob, i want to be as sure as possible to avoid bricking my device.
First I need to download 1.17 firmware right? Then after that restore backup? Or do i need to do something first?

Okay, since you're currently running ics you should flash the h boot from 3.12 firmware in the link I posted previously because it contains the 1.23 h boot which runs both GB ROMS and ICS ROMS. Download a 3.12 firmware, you have already done super cid so any will work. After you finish your download extract the contents and locate the h boot. It should be PMG58IMG, place it on the root of your sd csrd. Now boot into downloader. Remove battery, replace it, hold vol - and press power it should see the PM58IMG zip and ask if you want to update, choose yes. When it finishes reboot you phone. Now reboot into recovery and install your backup. After you are back to your GB backup you can either remain on 1.23 h boot, you'll still be s off, or flash the 1.17 h boot in the link I posted above.

If your backup is of your stock ROM rooted, check your software version after you reinstall your backup. Then go to this thread and you should be able to find your RUU.

I extracted the h boot PM58IMG zip only when I downgraded. Don't worry your radio, etc are in your backup.
H boot 1.23 runs GB and ICS. 1.17 only works with GB.

Ics firmware, outdated use Mike's latest release.

Here is the ics firmware from the leaked ics Ruu. Big thanks to rcteam. Ruu is a beta release so flash this at your own risk.
Rename to pg58img. This firmware is missing system and recovery.IMG, but will update the other partitions. Once flash restore nand or reflash Rom once update is complete.
http://db.tt/HMWF5RaX
Edit: So I downloaded this package to make sure that it works and is not corrupted. It is not corrupted.
Here is a md5 you can use to make sure that yours is not corrupted either.(believe it should be for all other downloads)
md5 checksum: 147CBA54E2B4756B5CA76AD8B0350CE3
after flashing read third post down.
While flashing the pg58img and you get a model wrong id in the middle of flashing you need to supercid. Link to supercid. Someone in mikes thread reported that you can supercid while in hboot 1.20.xxxx
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
Thread to mikes thread if you experience in problems, trouble, or to report feedback.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618
Another note, difference between hboot.
1.20.xxxx, 1.19.xxxx, 1.18.xxxx will have locked at the top, to unlock you can htcdec unlock it. There is no performance difference between any of the hboot including eng hboot 1.17 shipped or revolutionary. As mike stated most user will be fine with hboot 1.18.xxxx-1.20.xxxx as they do not use fastboot write commands and they can just flash through pg58img files.
But for others if you want fastboot commands you can flash eng hboot back 1.17.xxxx
Link to ziggy's post if you want to eng hboot (1.17.xxxx) back
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20681060&postcount=22
After flashing, dzdata will delete userdata so you will have to reflash rom or nand backup. YOU WILL STAY S-OFF FROM FLASHING THIS AND ANY OTHER HBOOT!!!!! This has been stated many times in numerous thread and I believe everybody is getting tired of answering this.

It's not the ruu. It's the firmware inside for those who don't want to go through the process. And this won't upgrade the system partition or recovery.

Since s-off stays (right?), are there any disadvantages to keeping the updated hboot and just unlocking it via htcdev? Or is that even possible? I wanted to try the new radio, but I read that it's unstable unless you keep the hboot.

i just did that yesterday and it worked
only difference that i flashed the rom.zip extracted from the ruu
i deleted the recovery image incase the new hboot locks the phone again
i then restored my backup and voila
the weird thing is my bootloader says 1.20 and unlocked at the top !!! any ideas
i didnt try flashing another hboot as i would like to keep the newer radio which is a little better than old 10.58
other than that ICS works way better with it`s own firmware

It needs Qualcomm QPST or a Jtag to recover. I'm exchanging it through T-Mo for warranty. I think he posted a corrupt file with MD5 sums, so I verified MD5 sums match to a corrupt file and flashed, leaving me with a paperweight that won't even turn on.
Flashed it last night, i knew at the time i should have removed splash1.nb0 as my custom splash with "property of ....... my email, brothers phone no was replaced by stock HTC splash
RCMix ICS rom definitely running better with this, did the HTC dev unlock but couldn't get fastboot to flash my custom splash so used PG58IMG to go back to older hboot, everything seems fine with old hboot and new radio
Flashing firmware from anything other than a release RUU is just asking for a brick. I couldn't advise more strongly against it unless you're already considering buying yourself a new device and need a potential excuse.

only disadvantage is losing fastboot commands. flash hboot 1.17 through bootloader like how you would flash this package. Since all the partitions are updated you should be fine in running any hboot with the newest radio.

[Q] HBoot 1.17 or 1.18

Hello,
I flashed the latest RUU for my sensation and wanted to change the splash screen.
This of course is not possible with 1.20 and putting the splash1.IMG into the PM87zip does not do the trick for me.
I was wondering if any of you guys can link me to hboot 1.17 or 1.18. I found 1 link on another forum but i don't really trust it.
Thanks

[Q] why doesnt is work for me?

Hello everybody. I have s-on but hboot 1.23 and my hboot is meant to support firmware 3.12 but when I tried to run roms on that firmware, ALL of them got stuck in a bootloop even though I flashed the boot.img file for each of them and did a full wipe. Is there any solution to my problem?
well simply u need it s-off now it lloks up and signed rom while u use an custom. follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
is a very good guide used it and worked for me.
I can't soff now because I have hboot 1.23 and revolutionary does not support it.
how did you get the 1.23 hboot?
anyway.. find a ruu for your device and go back to gb. s-off then
I can't all of the RUU files give unknown error:155
Try then updating to the 1.27 revolutionary if you feel brave enough
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using Tapatalk
Or extract the rom from a ruu and flash it as pg58img.zip
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using Tapatalk
that's the problem, hboot 1.23 is utter pathetic and shoddy, it can't flash any firmware files whatsoever or do any advanced fastboot commands such as :fastboot update PG58IMG
I didn't put hboot 1.23 on, it came whilst i was trying a firmware for a rom.
Extract the full rom from a ruu and put it in the root of your SD card named PG58IMG.ZIP and go into boot loader. It should downgrade you to gb... Then you can s-off with revolutionary

If only, hboot 1.23 cant update any PG58IMG files, it checks that they are there, then says parsing and reboots hboot.

or
just install this addon by mudhi (gives beats also srs, equalizer and dolby effects)

no you wont have a dual boot but you might need to do a superwipe which is dependent on the rom
btw which ROM are you running currently ?(this would be helpful for further answers)

in most of the custom ROMS the only difference between XE and non-XE version is just beats...nothing less nothing more
so if you want just beats you can flash the mod by mudhi which ive posted earlier

Hold on, there's something I don't understand. You said that you flashed a sensation ROM on your sensation XE. By right you should haven't lost S-OFF by doing that.
i kinda flashed stockrom so i could turn s-on, so i could use the normal update to ics
i actually have a clockworkmod backup of the old version, but when i go to HBOOT and click recovery i get an image of my phone with a red traingle with an ! inside it, what does this mean? because if i connect my phone to the pc and use th SD card, the recovery is on it
the story is this way:
i rooted my phone(successfull, no custom rom) to use certain apps, later on when ICS got released in my country, i had to turn s-on to use the "legal" update. So i did that by use of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 this thread. The thread sais in step 5 to install stock-rom, i picked the normal sensation ICS rom en that is when the Hboot went to 1.27. Now i cant root it, and can't enter clockworkmod to go back to 23-01-2012
at least, i get the picture of my phone with an ! in a triangle in red

the triangle on your recovery means you have stock HTC recovery.
Flash the cmw again using PG58IMG.zip by keeping that file on root of your sdcard.
then you can use the old backup from your sdcard
then i will have hboot 1.17 again, and there is no chance of bricking?
i put the pg58img on my root file on sd, but it wont install. Is this because i use an old pg58img, if so, is there a pg58img for 1.27hboot?

your phone wont be bricked as long as you got the right PG58IMG.zip ...but im wondering whether your recovery will be updated or not..as your bootloader is S-on now (but if you failed it wont screw up your phone....just remove the zip file after you've flashed to prevent bootloops)

Edit: Nowadays, custom roms- as they mature- are/may be using different bases...
very often even updates of that same rom differ so much,
that full wipe before update becomes our good habit,
and- in many cases- strongly advised practise
Try that all I have 3 HTC sensation , desire s and explorer and only desire make my day hard I find stock ruu try to flash tough fastboot system boot and recovery and than lock bootloader and factory reset or ruu setup and nothing I am so angry maybe I will only destroy this phone and walk away

Well, just calm down and start from skratch:
1.lock bootloader
2. Run RUU
A) check pc drivers
B) check if they ( phone and pc) see each other-when phone in fastboot mode
Running RUU is a procedure given to us for granted by manufacturer,
when all else fails- RUU must not, and ussualy does not....
If you- in th mean time- have upgraded bootloader- should find appropriate stock ruu
Belive me it's not my first time to use RUU and adb/fastboot commands but no help

Now the method of flashing is the same with all desire s phone. Not one of this device has another 'special' way of flashing.
There might be a small chance that u did the flash wrongly. I would suggest that u be specific(right down to the adb command) in the process when flashing the nandroid.
Any chance that u change the hboot since ur last nandroid?
If stock rom is all u wanted, we have many sense rom, even modded stock rom that has been clean(those require specific hboot though).
Now being being led to run a ruu. Are u s-off or unlock? if u are not sure check bootloader.
If you are unlock, check this out. Step 4 shows the the method of flash rom and boot.img from the fastboot.
I will try again I'm unlocked son 4ext classic recovery
