Hi
Bourght a nexus s a few days ago. Today i tried to root the phone using a guide from youtube, if you search for "root nexus s" and look for the user named "Zedomax", thats the one i tried to follow.
First i unlocked it.
next thing was to:
fastboot flash boot recovery clockwork.img (shortend the name to help my self)
last thing:
fastboot flash boot rootboot.img
After this was done my phone is unable to reboot again, it just stops at a google logo with a lock under it. And at that point im unable to do anything. Only thing that works is removing the battery. Think i have killed it
Any ideas to what i could do? is it possible for me to save it yet?
best regards,
Fonain
try to use the pc software to repair it or to reinstall android.. there is no problem..
pc software? could you please tell me what software are you talking about, maybe a link to where i can download it? And do you by chance know how to reinstall android?
any help is highly appreciated
Best regards,
fonain
edit: at work atm, so might not be able to answer right away

I have yet to use it on my NS but i used it regularly on my vibrant. You will need to get into download mode for it to work.
your link doesnt work
does anyone know where i can find the original files for nexus s so i can use em in fastboot and make my phone work again?

which phone model do you have?
i9020 or i9023 ?
Bootloader version is I9020XXKA3
Baseband version is I9020XXKB1
dunno if those version names have been changed while i have been tampering with my phone, if not its the I9020
that looks good
if it's really a 9020 then you can use the unlocking + rooting guide for the 9020 in the general section
once you get CWR installed, you can flash to any ROM you like
Thanks ill try look deeper into that, and see if that will solve my problem.
but it is already unlocked and partly rooted...i think.
have used a clockwork img and rootboot img, and after that my phone couldnt start up again.

those files are wrong use the mirror recovery image on the i9020 rooting topic in general http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895545
Think i should have used that guide instead of the one i have been using the first time... looks great step by step!
But....
i still have the problem where my phone just stops loading.
1: unlocked it
2: typed: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
3: finished at 1.132 sec (no problems so far)
4: reboot my phone, then it stops.
and it stop when showing this screen.
http://i53.tinypic.com/m74byg.jpg with a lock at the bottom which is unlocked.
And it just stops there, waited for several minutes as i have seen that the startup could take up to 2 mins after tampering with the nexus s.
get to the point in the guide where it tells you to download superuser.
Hope you can see if i have done something wrong
best regards,
Fonain
EDIT: oh yes, forgot to mention that the 2 touch buttons to the left on my SNS lights up. First one glowes for a sec or two, then it turns off again. The second stays on all the time.
repeat the fastboot flash recovery recovery.img one more time
after that is done, boot into the CW Recovery
you know hold up and power
then select mount USB
then copy over a stock nandroid backup for 2.3.3 rooted
after that unmount the usb
and select the option to restore rom from backup
and choose the folder that you unzipped into your mounted SD
3 words...
you are awesome!
thanks alot!!

I'm having problems with my girlfriend's Desire S. I installed CyanogenMod the day it was purchased, and have had no major problems with it at all, up until last night. Apps from the Market wouldn't update, throwing out a standard error with the option to force close. On restarting the phone thanks to it crashing, the phone now boots to the HTC logo and doesn't get any further.
I have CWM installed and I'm still able to access the bootloader. I've scoured this forum and many others trying to find a solutions, and wouldn't be posting for help if I knew there was some way of getting this sorted without bothering you guys. It appears to be a somewhat common problem, but some of it goes straight over my head. I've tried flashing a new recovery, wiping the cache, a factory reset but none of it seems to register. Can't install a new ROM
It appears it's the dreaded "eMMC" issue, but before I'm reluctant to send it off given it's S-OFF, so thought I'd throw it out there. I understand it's an issue that's cropped up a fair few times but I'm tearing my hair out trying to sort it and really don't know what to do with it. Any suggestions would be super helpful.
Not sure if this information helps at all:
Revolutionary Hboot 6.98.1002
Hboot Factory Rest option just freezes phone.
Fastboot seems to register with PC, but trying to install a new recovery or new hboot brings about an "error: cannot load 'hboot.img/recovery.img' in cmd.
Install ZIP from SD Card brings the following error:
"E:Error in /sdcard/updatecm-7.1.0-DesireS-signed.zip
(Status 1)
Installation aborted."
Attempted to install 4EXT Recovery via CWM though when restarting phone it's still just CWM. Probably doing this totally wrong but again not really sure how to go about it to fix Cache issue.
Also get the standard E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command, etc errors on using CWM.
Thanks in advance, any help is absolutely appreciated, and would stop my girlfriend having to use, in her words, a "crappy, dying, useless Sony Ericsson," after only having this one for less than a month.
Nathan.
Flash 4EXT recovery via fastboot. Use search.
If you still can access recovery and/or bootloader, there may still be hope. Based on research, complete eMMC failure will just give you a vibrating phone, that's it.

Thanks guys for the quick replies, really appreciate the help.
Skanob, I've tried to Flash 4EXT recovery via flashboot, but it never seems to move past "writing 'recovery'. . . Should it take a particularly long time or pretty much straight away? Also, when in flashboot USB I find I'm unable to move up or down, as if flashboot has crashed as soon as it attempts to flash recovery.
amidabuddha, when I boot into recovery and use cmddmesg | grep mmc0, I get the error message "'cmddmesg' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
Again, really appreciate the help. I try to steer clear of starting help threads if possible but as it's not my phone I really wanted to get this fixed for her as soon as possible, and I'm a complete noob.

Thanks for that, I don't get any of the error messages that would indicate a fried chip which is a relief!
However I'm still a little confused as to the next best step. The SD card had an error on it when connecting it to a PC and needed to be formatted, there isn't a backup of the ROM on their. I've got Revolutionary Hboot 6.98.1002.
When I try to factory reset using Revolutionary, it seems to just stall and not do anything, crashing and not letting me select any other options.
I've also tried flashing a stock ROM via fastboot USB with the RUU, and it again just crashes and needs a hard reset.
Trying to install CM7 via ClockworkMod also doesn't work. Says it's installing update then after about 5 minutes get the following:
"E:Error in /sdcard/update-cm-7.1.0-DesireS-signed.zip
(Status 1)
Installation aborted."
When I switch on the phone and it boots to HBOOT, I get an error stating that "Loading... P88IMG not found. No image or wrong image." When I place P88IMG onto SD Card and start hboot, it says it's updating and then just stays that way, crashing the phone. Again.
Sorry to throw a wall of errors at you guys.

Do not be sorry the purpose of this forum is to ask and answer The good news are that your eMMC is still in shape!
Now wipe the cache partition from ClockworkMod (there is an option in the menu) and reboot the phone
If no sucess follow the steps described here
This will bring you back to Stock.
Then you can S-OFF and flash a custom ROM again if you like
Good luck
But which of those steps I mentioned is the correct thing to be doing? I'm confused as to what I should do now once I've wiped the cache and rebooted the phone.
Also I've tried the steps you mentioned, but the file it created on the SDCard was 0bytes and brings up nothing when I open it in Hex Editor. It's only actually written the file once, other times it's appeared to but nothings there when I move the card to the PC.
I'm fairly certain of the ROM needed as it was a branded Vodafone unit sold in the UK. Using the links provided to change hboot, in what order should they be used? When trying to flash hboot I receive the following error:
2767 KB/s (1048576 bytes in 0.370s)
chmod: /data/local/tmp/hboot.img: Not a directory
Please accept superuser request on your phone
/sbin/sh: su: not found
Press any key to continue . . .
And when placing PG88IMG onto SD Card, when phone attempts to update it simply crashed hboot, which I'm assuming is to do with the hboot being the wrong version needed.

Ok, since I am not much experienced with branded devices I made some research across the forum and probably flashing this hboot on a branded device will be risky.
Create a GoldCard (look in the index thread in Android Development subforum for a guide). Then download and install RUU_Saga_Vodafone_UK_1.32.161.1_Radio_20.28b.30.08 05U_38.03.02.15_M_release. With the GoldCard it should overwrite everything on your device.
Try this and post back.
EDIT: note that not every SDcard is suitable for a GoldCard. Recommended is a 2 GB one.
After trying multiple lutions I decided to pop into the Vodafone store yesterday and get it sent away. I'm sure they'll probably send it back and claim a void warranty but it's worth a shot, I got the guy there to mention it was due to the Update All Market error, so hoping the fact it was rooted doesn't play too much of a role.
Thanks for your help, may not have managed to sort it myself in the end but it was definitely appreciated.
No recovery installed, won't boot past "Tmobile" logo on stock rom. I had to take my device into the store for maintenance so I unrooted, then I went to reroot it and went to install cwm recovery and device force closed everything and went to a blank HTC screen. Obliviously I am not an expert and any help would be appreciated. If I can get to recovery mode, at least I can flash a new rom. I just tried to flash from bootloader and it said "Model I.D. Incorrect" and it required a power down. I desperately need help and I'm pretty much out of options. The only thing left to do is fastboot usb method but it's very confusing and time consuming, then if it doesnt work, Im back where I started. Any suggestions for what I should do?
Extract PG58IMG.zip which includeds recovery, open android-info.xml in notepad or any text editor.Change one of the cidnum into T-MOB010
And then change the modelid into PG5810000
Save and compress again
And OP you should post questions in Q&A section
Thanks man ill try it. I appreciate the help.
Ok it just worked. Your awesome, I really appreciate the help.

Now that makes us 2 people who owns a B63M and got it from cect-shop.
What I find out about their phones is that it may not easily allow you to perform some insider operations, for instance, maybe its me but I could not find any custom recovery installed and this led to my first issue after I rooted, and installed the ROM manager, I saw the 'fix permission' and clicked it hoping to resolve my force close issues and it asked me to reboot after performing the process but it never got out of the boot, the loop continued, trying to boot into recovery become impossible but somehow a combination got me into a mode where I was able to clear flash and this took me back to a pre factory flash good thing I backed up titanium so I cld restore my apps and upgrade.
Right now I have tried to flash and the screen has gone blank yet the phone is responding to touch as I can hear sounds when the screen is clicked, indicating that its not bricked I just cant see anything going on (this is my current situation and seriously looking for help).
Lastly, I am trying to find out the htc equivalent to this b63m, it looks htc but I cant be sure which of the htc has been more or less cloned... this is going to help with a lot of things if known.
Cheers
Hi there,
If you are looking for a custom recovery, try this forum, altough you have to translate it because it is in German.
Lots of people there with our phone end they know how to get a custom recovery on it.
Cect is German

Yeah thanks, I have also stumbled on the site forum before but I cld not get something out of it, maybe I have not taken time enough to search, I am back on it now and hope I get a solution to the blacked out screen problems I have after flashing.
You know cect-shop is German, they are a German company in China... I am talking to them on skype and hoping they can help me out but they seem pretty busy or cant be bothered because their response is so much delayed or even not at all.
Well technoforum has a special B63M section with all tools required.
They also have nice custom roms like a Cyanogen fork.
I also don't speak Italian, but with the help of Google translate I'm getting pretty far.
But I do let Google translate from Italian to English, that gives me the best result.
Good luck!!
Do you also get no working screen after a reboot with both volume + and power button?
That should get you to the recovery screen without any ROM drivers.
Very correct, no screen even in recovery
When I do the button combination, I believe that it may have responded to my combination for recovery mode but I just cant see anything on the screen, it just remains the same way it was... maybe it graphics issue, as in is the graphics is messed up for some reason or resolution issue, you wont see anything being displayed.
I am just guessing here but all I did was to simply flash an update.zip from sd card.
That is very strange, since flashing a rom does not affect the screen of the recovery boot.
The rom video driver gets only active during the boot process of the rom.
In the past I had some boot problems with my Wildfire start-up that I solved by removing the SIM card and SD card, removed the battery for some minutes and them booted completely resetted.
You could try that, if that does not solve the problem, the only way to wipe the phone back to factory-reset is doing it blind.
After I get my phone I could make a step-by-step guide so you could get to the reset menu...
Another possibility is to re-flash a fresh recovery img to the phone. Since I don't know what was in your update.zip, you could messed up the recovery menue, or even the bootloader.
Re-flashing those could also help and you don. t need the display from the phone, since you use the PC for that.
Here it is
Here is the update.zip I flashed. http://chinamobiles.org/downloads.php?do=file&id=618&langid=4
I am a bit surprised myself that the screen is blanked out but the phone seem to be working still.
I have removed both SIMS and SD card plus battery several times etc. nothing changed.
You said ''After I get my phone I could make a step-by-step guide so you could get to the reset menu...'', I hope you get your phone soon tho, and i can see the step-by-step guide you made.
I have actually flashed recovery into it using flash tool, ODIN dont seem to see the phone (at least the yellow box saying COm4 or 5 is not showing), I can see the phone using adb but when I say adb reboot download or recovery, something happens but I cant see what it is.
I too have a B63M...!!! Spice Mi-350n...........
If you need a moded recovery, i can port it for you........but you need to follow some instructions...i'll give them tomorrow!!
Waiting on you... I hope my blank screen gets sorted.

Ahh thanks man... Ii will wait to hear from you tomorrow, I aim in UK and depending on what time zones you are in but I hope to find you online to connect again.
I hope you have understood my particular issue here tho, the screen if blank even tho the fone seem to be alive and it follows the boot sequence, I can even find it using 'adb devices' command, it just the screen gone blank.
Someone suggested it may be the boot.img but I dont know about that.
Cheers
I'm from India - Local time here is GMT+5:30......!!
So, here you go !!
B63M= MTK6573 + 650mhz + Android 2.3
So, one modded recovery.img can't be used for every B63M.......this is because a different B63M phone will have a different recovery.img..........(hope u understand)
Backing up everything:
1) ROOT is necessary. It is recommended to put the phone in 'Airplane mode' so that it won't disturb the process and make sure you have ~500 mb space in SD card.
2) Download 'BackUpTools.rar' from HERE and extract it to your SD Card. You'll have 2 folders - 'gscript' and 'Install'.
3) Install 'GScriptLite.apk' from gscript folder.
3) After installation, open the 'GScriptLite' application -> Menu -> Add Script.
4) Tick 'Needs SU ?'
5) Click 'Load File' and select 'Back23.sh' and then select 'save'
6) Now Click on 'Back 23' and Super User will ask for Permission and allow it. Nothing more to touch. Wait for few minutes. After few mins, it will say 'Auto Close is Cancelled'. Now its safe to close.
7) Your Back-Up will be in 'backup_' folder located in your SD card's root.
It will have files named ' firmware.info, preloader.img, nvram.img, seccnfg.img, uboot.img, boot.img, recovery.img, secstatic. img, misc.img, logo.img, expdb.img, cache.img, system.img, data.img' in that folder. Copy it to your computer and keep it at a safe place. More Over if you are posting in the forums or sharing it online, don't include ' data.img, cache.img and nvram.img' as they contain your personal information.
Here i need two files. One is recovery.img and the other is firmware.info.
If you give both, i can port one for your phone !! Also mention your phone's model name/number because, without that it is not possible.

That was the problem, you flashed only the update, not a complete Rom.
I suggest you make a complete re-flash vorm scratch, so refash a fresh recovery.img and re-flash als a new Rom.
You can vind one at technoforum' as earlier mentioned
I thot you shd read my latest.
Ok guys I appreciate this a lot.
Here at this point I think you shd hear my developments before taking any further actions or suggestions.
aha thanks, I did just that and it worked although it is still blank at the beginning of boot but later something shows up on screen and completes boots.
Remember I mentioned that someone suggested it might be a boot.img problem... well, I used flashtool to flash a boot image and I can say it worked, I now have the visuals, even tho the screen is still blank at boot start but soon after it picks up and its working, now I have the phone again.
so @balamu96m, my issue was basically the screen, without seeing anything I cannot follow the back up suggestion you gave me here, but now I can see it again.
A couple of additional issues tho...
1- I checked the kernel and it has changed from 2.3.5 into 2.3.4 and >In the current ROM flash I have lost a couple of capabilities like Flashlight, camera etc
2- I followed this link http://www.technoforum.it/forum/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=3351 to flash recovery and it says Successful with the green Circle -OK-... but I still cant get boot into recovery either when I use the keys combi or when I try to boot into recovery in mobileuncle tools, it just goes blank and stays like so until I have to remove the battery and restart boot normally.
3- From the same link above they have the Golight ROM in part 2 after recovery in part 1, I am assuming this a good ROM to flash and the things I lost will get back, but I still cant boot into recovery.
Coming back to the response from balamu96m... Should I still go ahead with what yu suggested and provide you the files details you want? both recovery.img and firmware.info... I am asking because I no longer have the original ROM that came with the phone and like I said I cant even get into Recovery after I tried flashing a new recovery.img, this one from the same link above (see the recovery.img inside the 'Recovery Moddata' file from the 'UPDATEB63MRecovery2012' download file.)
Great to hear that you have visual again!
You still have root yes?
The golight rom from technoforum is a good one.
I expect mine any moment now so I can customize mine too.
Good luck!

You flashed a recovery, but that is not working ah?? Oh God!!
Why did you do that bro??
Do you have any backup of the stock one??
If you dont have, then i have 2 ideas....one idea is to flash something else such that your fone won't boot....now you can send your phone back to the manufacturer and ask them to reflash everything!!!
The other idea, i'll tell you after sometime!!
It was always so

The reason i flashed recovery initially was that my phone went into a boot loop and I was unable to get into recovery, after a while somehow i figure it out and cleared flash and then restored my phone apps and co and got on fine.
But if I could not get into recovery it means that there was not stock recovery on my phone or it got missing somehow. This I have to ask Henkdrenth since he is getting the same phone from the same shop too, but there was no recovery in my B63m, I already heard there is a recovery problem with the phone anyway, and thats why I flashed recovery and it worked but then I flashed ROM and the screen went blank, which is what got me to this forum.
I did not just go and flash recovery, it because there was none on the phone in my opinion.

After many troubles, I found a mod for w690 which is the build version of my phone, I could not boot to recovery so used flashtool and when I load the scatter text of the one I found, it automatically load in every item on the list including recovery and boot img , etc, so I flashed these to my phone... and for the first time I was back in how the phone came to me,
Gingerbread has now returned to 2.3.5.
One thing I have noticed is that the phone freezes on me and then reboots?
I still cannot boot into recovery, I tried this again using mobileuncle tools...
It seem that I have flashed my phone which is good, but I was unable to wipe cache because I could not boot into recovery to do this which may be the source of the current freeze and reboot.
Can I solve this using the mobileuncle or what can I do to wipe cache, if that is the problem
Well, received mine, rooted it an flashed a new recovery from technoforum using myuncletools.
All went well, so I suggest you do also a fres re-flash with a proper recovery.
Hope that should solve your problem.
Edit: moved from my tablet to my PC to look for the link of a correct recoveryfile for you.
First, load this recovery.
Unpack it and put the content to the root of your SD card.
Use myuncletools to flash this recovery.
Now you should have a usable custom recovery that allows you to factory-reset and wipe your phone
Install a fresh rom

Hello,
I recently unlocked, flashed TWRP and flashed Pixel Experience onto my Mi Mix 2s. After some time a notification of an available update appeared. I tried to install it but it didn't work. After some troubleshooting it appeared that I couldn't get my device booted into TWRP recovery mode.
I tried reflashing it via fastboot but that didn't work. It did not give any errors upon executing the command lines in the fastboot command prompt but just nothing happened. It just sat still like it was waiting, and waiting, and waiting.
So i thought, let's just reset the phone via the normal settings menu in Android. In hindsight that was quite a dumb move I guess, because after all the phone used to be working. But still I followed through and now it wound up in a bootloop. I can still get it into the bootloader mode, and in fastboot it shows my device when I execute <fasboot devices> but flashing or erasing the recovery doesn't work. It looks as if it sees the phone, can get info from it but is not able or allowed to flash anything to it. But it doesn't give any errors, it just seems to keep waiting on something, I don't know.
I hope any of you guys can help me because searching this forum or googling hasn't helped me getting any further. All topics I found at least had some errors in fastboot/bootloader mode which gave them a direction to go into...
So please help me!
Whoops, I solved it myself. On another laptop it magically worked the first time. Probably an issue with either the USB port or the drivers.
